One of the objectives of exercising is to make daily chores easier by strengthening muscles, building endurance and reducing the possibility of injury. Performing daily chores will burn fat and tone muscles, especially when done at a slightly accelerated pace for 30 minutes or more, according to fitness experts.Simpler chores such as ironing and washing dishes can burn a minimum of 76.5 calories per half hour.</p>
<p>VACUUM:  Vacuuming engages a series of muscle groups in the upper body. The process can also tone the lower body, especially if stairs are involved. Contract your abdominal muscles to trim your waist and firm oblique.</p>
<p>PICK UP A BROOM: This is another excellent chore to work the upper body, especially back and side muscles. For maximum results, quicken the sweeping motion and switch sides so that both halves will be worked evenly.</p>
<p>DO LAUNDRY:  If your house has stairs, make multiple trips to gather and put away clothes. Stair-climbing builds leg muscles and endurance.</p>
<p>WASH DISHES. Even busting suds can aid your quest for fitness. So give the dishwasher a break and give those pots and pans a good personal scrub.</p>
<p>GROCERY SHOPPING: This oftentimes burdensome chore increases heart rate while toning muscles.</p>
<p>SCRUB THE FLOORS: The good old-fashioned mop-and-pail way of doing it engages the entire body while boosting heart rate.</p>
<p>SHOVEL SNOW: There is no better time to work outside than winter, especially in the snow. The body burns additional calories trying to warm up, so grab a shovel and start clearing the driveways and sidewalks.</p>
<p>START GARDENING: Gardening is one of the best workouts because it uses all major muscle groups. The average person can burn anywhere from 100-120 calories per half hour while gardening.</p>
<p>DIY, do it yourself household work helps you as it is a form of exercise. You hardly realize it, but it is a fact. If you do household work it also is a form of exercise and thus helps.</p>

Yet in the real world of the gymnasts performing, it is not easy to perform at all. Gymnastics is a skill that takes many, many years to master and many end up retiring their gymnastics careers before they ever master all of the skills.</p>
<p>During the course of a gymnastics career there are likely to be several injuries ranging from mild and easily healed to those that are major and can potentially end a career quite early. Sometimes the difference between a minor injury and a severe injury depends on the type of planning that is put into each routine and practice. For example, following some simple guidelines can help you avoid as many injuries as possible.</p>
<p>One of the first things that all gymnasts should be taught is how to properly fall. This is because falling is almost as much a part of gymnastics as the actual tricks and routines themselves. Having the knowledge and training to help control your fall can often mean the difference between finishing a routine or being carried off of the floor. Practice on occasion the falling techniques that you are initially taught to ensure you are still capable of helping yourself.</p>
<p>A gymnast should never attempt any trick that they do not fully understand first. Always watch several times and ensure that you understand the exact order that steps are performed before you try yourself. Once you have a general idea of what you are doing, always ensure someone is with you in case you are injured.</p>
<p>Ensure you always have a firm idea of how your body should feel, as well as look during a trick. You should immediately stop if something does not feel right. For example, if you feel that you foot is pointing in the wrong direction stop and find out why. Some gymnasts have discovered that they injured themselves and their leg was sprained or even broken as a result of feeling the position did not feel right. Never be afraid to stop and try again, rather than pressing ahead and making a potential injury worse.</p>
<p>Take some toning and conditioning classes. These will help you strengthen all of the muscles in the body to help reduce the damage that can occur from weak muscles. Taking two short classes each week is generally sufficient, however some gymnast prefer to take classes much more often. The choice of how often is ultimately up to you, but at least two a week is highly recommended.</p>
<p>You should always focus when performing tricks or practicing routines. While talking to others may seem like fun, being able to walk away at the end of the day is even more fun. Talk to your friends after doing the routine or trick, rather than while you are attempting the trick.</p>
<p>Never practice without the appropriate clothing. Gymnasts are required to wear leotards for several reasons. First, they allow coaches an unobstructed view of the body and how it is moving, and second because there is nothing to be accidently caught while in the middle of a trick. Wearing sweatpants, jackets, or other clothing can be an accident waiting to happen.</p>
<p>Finally, you should remove all jewelry before practice or competition. This is important because rings, bracelets, earrings, and even necklaces can cause serious injuries if they are hung on something while you are moving. Remove them and store them safely in your bag rather than risking an injury.</p>

However, overall men&#039;s gymnastics is treated quite roughly with most events involving great amounts of strength, coordination, and endurance in order to actually be considered a real gymnast.</p>
<p>The various aspects of gymnastics has always required great amounts of strength as well as athletic ability, however men&#039;s gymnastics tends to take the typical requirements up a few notches by expecting bigger, better and longer routines from men than what is expected from women. Men&#039;s gymnastics involves six different events that are used to help showcase the ability and talents of each gymnast. While many men train in all events equally, some gymnasts choose to train in one area more exclusively.</p>
<p>The first event for men is the floor exercise. The basis of the element is the same as for women, using a 12m square floor series of tumbles, woven together with handstands, acrobatic, rhythm and various other components are strung together. The typical time for a floor exercise is approximately 60 seconds; however, some can last as long as 70 seconds. Some contrasts to women&#039;s events include there is no music during the routine, and also gymnasts are required to touch each corner of the floor a minimum of once.</p>
<p>The pommel horse is the next event that men partake in. This is an event that requires intense amount of upper body as well as arm strength as the gymnast is only allowed to touch the horse with their arms, while keeping the rest of their body in a continuously, fluid movement. It is vital to have a highly developed sense of balance, huge amounts of upper body strength and train extensively in body control in order to be successful on the pommel horse. This is a highly advanced event that young gymnasts are typically not allowed to partake in.</p>
<p>Still rings is an event that many people think of when they are envisioning gymnastics for men. Using two rings that are suspended from a bar that hang 5.75 meters from the floor, the gymnast is required to stay in the air, not touch the floor and perform a routine that emphasizes body control, strength and flexibility. In addition to the movements of the gymnast, they must also maintain complete control over the rings so that there is no movement other than the gymnast themselves. Gymnasts are required to perform at least one static strength move during the routine, however many choose to include more.</p>
<p>Men share the vault element with women as well, which required them to sprint quickly down a 25-meter runway and bounce off of a springboard while propelling themselves over the hurdle. Gymnasts are required to produce a successful dismount in which there is no falling or shifting of the weight.</p>
<p>Parallel Bars is another event in which men train and compete. Using bars that are approximately 1.75 meters off the ground and set a bit wider than shoulder width the gymnast performs a series of balances, swings, and various other acrobatic movements while ensuring they do not fall to the ground.</p>
<p>The final event for men to participate in is the high bar. This uses a bar that is only 2.4cm wide and rises an impressive 2.5 meters off the ground. Gymnasts are required to perform various aspects together such as twists, directional changes, flips, and even giants to produce a routine that is visually as well as athletically impressive. Most men wear leather grips while performing on the high bar to reduce the risk of injury to the hands.</p>

They often debate whether machines are more effective or free weights. Basically, barbells and free weights are classified as free weights. On the other hand exercises that have pulleys or cables to help you lift the weight are machines.</p>
<p>In order to gain muscles, you need to focus more on free weight exercises. For all machine enthusiasts out there, you might rethink about which one is more effective. Free weights are indeed more effective in promoting muscle growth. Although the exercises here are much more difficult to execute because nothing is actually assisting you to employ the correct execution, this fact alone is why free weight exercise is much more effective.</p>
<p>Free weight exercises are able to stimulate most of the muscle fibers as possible. This is impossible to do with a machine. Why?</p>
<p>Basically, machines lack in promoting stabilizers and synergist muscle development. Basically, these two muscles are what support the main muscles when you are performing a complex lift. For example, if you need to do bench presses, you need to be able to make use of the stabilizers and the synergist muscles in order for you to achieve lift. And, you need lots of it. If you bench press using a machine, it will not really need any assistance from the stabilizers as the machine itself is already supporting your main muscles.</p>
<p>Machines basically fail to stimulate the muscles around the area you are working on, which are the stabilizers. You need to remember that in order for your main muscles to grow, the stabilizers should be strong. And, the only way to do this is by doing as much free weight exercises as you can.</p>
<p>Free weight exercises, such as squats, dumbbell presses, dumbbell fly, bench presses, bent over dumbbell row, and others put a lot of stress in the supporting muscle groups, which is why you get tired really fast doing free weight exercises. However, even if you do get tired really fast, you will gain more muscles and you will become a lot stronger at a very fast rate.</p>
<p>You can include machine exercises in your program but you need to do it after you execute all the free weight exercises. This way, you will be able to take advantage of the strength you have on free weight exercises and not deplete it on machine exercises.</p>
<p>If you are a beginner, concentrate on lighter weights. Your primary goal is not muscle gain yet. You first need to properly execute the free weight exercises you have in your program in order for you to move on to heavier weights.</p>
<p>Concentrate on strengthening the supporting muscles first and when it is able to support the weight you are lifting and that you are able to execute the free weight exercises properly, then it&#039;s time for you to concentrate on the primary muscles.</p>
<p>Also, in order to build muscle mass, you need to lift heavier weights. What heavy means is that weights that are challenging for you and weights that you will be able to lift with 8 to 12 repetitions for 3 sets. If you can do more than 15 repetitions before temporary failure sets in, then it will be considered as light weight.</p>
<p>Remember these tips and you can be sure that you will be able to gain muscles fast. Always remember that one of the keys to muscle gain is to strengthen the supporting muscles. And, only doing free weight exercises will be able to do this efficiently.</p>

But we often tend to forget that apart from physical problems they also suffer from certain mental problems. Their mind just becomes a junkyard due to non-usage and non-application. Generally the old people are considered to have less thinking and analyzing power so the other members of the family exclude them from various activities in the house which involves mental activities. Also many people out of love and respect keep them away from the daily tensions of their life and allow them to rest. Also the people who are above the age of fifty seldom make usage of their mind because they have nothing to do other than to sit quietly in a corner. But this harms them a lot and leads to various mental problems such as irritation, loss of memory etc.</p>
<p>Playing Chess</p>
<p>So they need to do certain activities which involve the usage of mind and will help them in keeping their mind sharp. One such activity can be chess. Chess is a very old game which completely involves the usage of mind. It&#039;s being played from very old times. It involves two players and involves strategy. There is a special board on which this game is played. Now as the game involves strategy it leads to thinking. The person playing it thinks very hard in order to win which leads to circulation of more blood into the brain. This leads to the usage of brain and thus helps in keeping the mental health up to the mark. Also by playing chess the person is engaged in some activity and thus his mind is not empty. Therefore problems like irritation, loss of memory, loss of sleep are done away with because with this activity there is lot of exercise of the brain. The problem which most of the older people face is loss of sleep. But as there is lot of mental exercise done the brain gets tired and thus the person gets a good seep in the night.</p>

<p>Playing chess really helps in keeping the older people above the age of fifties mentally fit.</p>

It was named after its founder. During the WWI, Pilates incorporated these exercises to improve his health and also that of his companions. While working as a caretaker/nurse he developed spring resistance and helped in rehabilitation programs. Joseph also incorporated various exercise equipments and put them into use in 1920s in his exercise studio in New York.</p>
<p>Important Pilates Principles</p>
<p>The principles involved in Pilates exercise regime lay emphasis on the use of mind over matter. It makes essential efficient movement and muscle control through mental focus. Pilates requires development of abdominal muscles and deep back muscles to support postures. Proper breathing is another important principle to be followed while performing pilates. It helps in mental focusing and centering.</p>
<p>Throughout the pilates exercises, awareness of proper posture and neutral spine alignment is necessary. In the earlier days, pilates was popular amongst dancers, as it helped them to attain a good posture and improve the strength, flexibility, and balance. However, later on, even professional boxers, athletes and rehabilitating patients started realizing the benefits of Pilates.</p>
<p>Pilates is Great for the Back</p>
<p>Pilates promotes back health. Its principles are consistent with programs of exercises. Back patients learn important skills like that of neutral spine alignment, strengthening deep postural muscles, and even supporting this alignment. Improvement of postural asymmetries can also be achieved through Pilates.</p>
<p>The suppleness, strength, and flexibility of shoulder girdle and hip benefits from this exercise regime. Unnecessary strain on the vertebral column is prevented by supported and fluid movements. Neutral alignment can be preserved by changing the patients&#039; habits. They become aware of movement habits that can stress the spine. Excessive tension is thus reduced and patients use their body efficiently with proper focus.</p>
<p>Equipment Required for Pilates</p>
<p>To create tension, the pilates equipment makes use of resistance provided by springs. The principle equipment is called reformer. This reformer has a sliding platform that is, anchored at one end with springs. This exercise requires movement of the platform by maintaining balance on a moving surface.</p>
<p>Cadillac is another pilates equipment made up of a padded platform and a cage-like frame above it. Various straps and bars are, attached to springs from this frame. Wunda chair is another such piece of equipment made up of a small platform and a bar attached with springs. Mat exercises in Pilates CONCENTRATE on increasing hip and back/spine flexibility.</p>
<p>Pilates has more recently merged with yoga and use of exercise ball. The integration and innovation of pilates has made it very popular. Once you try this exercise regime, you&#039;ll be addicted to it for life.</p>

Meditation has been shown to relieve stress, and promote overall good health, by simply reflecting upon our day, and finding happiness within ourselves. This and other mind exercises help us to keep our mind fit, and functioning at top performance levels. But up until the last twenty years, meditation was something the western world new little about. Is it necessary for our health? Or have we just come up with a new fad, to fill up the empty hours of our day?</p>
<p>Well, the empty hours don&#039;t exist for most of us, and quite frankly, without the opportunity to reflect and relax, I would quite possibly go completely mad  Our spirituality and meditation practices are the tools we have available to keep our mind as fit as we keep our bodies. The mind is a complicated and versatile machine, but it can become overwhelmed and unable to function correctly, if we don&#039;t take the time to keep it cared for.</p>
<p>Our mind has varying levels of operation, known as brainwaves. As we pass through the different stages of our day, we enter various stages of brain wave activity. The brain uses this tool as one way to allow us time to rest our busy mind, and cope with all the pieces of information we&#039;ve received, a way to kind of &#034;mind file&#034; for the day.</p>
<p>Modern alternative medicine and holistic healers believe in the power of the energy that flows through our bodies; this energy radiates from our mind as well. It is believed to be the chief from of transportation for our body&#039;s nervous system to carry out communication. Breathing techniques, music, aromas, and candle therapy are all ways we utilize the opportunities to reflect on our day, allow our mind to rest and replenish itself for further use. But are these methods keeping us mentally fit?  Yes, it does help to keep us mentally fit. The great benefit in meditation, however, the mind&#039;s ability to transform itself into a vehicle for higher awareness. Meditation is a way for us to become aware of the fact that there is more to our being than just our physical activity. We have so much more potential locked away in our mind, resources that we never tap into until we have the chance to quiet the mind, quiet our surroundings and open the door to the possibilities we don&#039;t examine on a day to day basis.</p>
<p>In our meditative state, thoughts that never have the opportunity to be heard during the bustle of the day are afforded the opportunity to come forward and be heard. Every step that we take is a step in some direction for our life. The opportunity to set our own destiny, develop our manifestation of what we believe our life should be, is the opportunity meditation provides. Every action we&#039;ve ever taken started as a thought. The thought was then brought into reality by our action on that thought. So are we able to produce new thoughts, new possibilities, in this time of quiet reflection.</p>

Anyone who is flying is expected to buckle their seat belts when their airplane hits a turbulence as the plane needs to work very hard to help it to re0position itself in the air. It is this same principle that is applied in Turbulence training where a combination of resistance training and interval training are used to help you achieve that fat free lean muscle filled body.</p>
<p>Turbulence training helps you to burn all that extra fat in your whole body and help build muscle tissue instead. This gives your body a better defined and chiseled lean look.</p>
<p>As turbulence training involves both resistance training and interval training you will find that you are losing fat faster in a shorter period of time. Turbulence training can be done by anyone, anywhere as it does not involve expensive gym equipment and also does not take much time. You can do it anytime you are free. All you need to do is workout for less than an hour 3 to 4 times a week. Now isn&#039;t that great. Of course you also need to follow a simple diet plan of eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetable along with fresh meat and poultry.</p>
<p>In turbulence training you follow a training workout which keeps changing every four weeks. This way your body will adapt to better fat burning measures .Doing the same routine for months together is not effective. It is doing a workout for only short durations which is the key to burning fat and maintaining a fat free body. Variety in training helps the body to be more adaptive.</p>
<p>In order to lose fat continuously and gain muscle you must be sure to change your workouts also. Changing your exercises and variables continuously every 4 weeks helps your body to burn more fat. For beginners 4 weeks are needed while for advanced trainees they need only 2 weeks on each program to maintain fat loss. By changing workouts your metabolism rate will go up and this will ensure that more fat is burnt up in your body. And doing resistance training and interval training ensures that a continuous loss of fat takes place in your body long after you have finished your training.</p>

If you are putting sugar and starches into your body, you are feeding your brain. Likewise, if you are putting any overuse of fats, calories, cholesterol, carbohydrates, or harmful substances, chemicals, foods, and so on into your body, your brain is affected&#8230; If your brain isn&#039;t working right, then your body likewise will fall short of your expectations.</p>
<p>If you are not exercising and eating healthy, then you can suffer bone deterioration, mental illnesses, chemical imbalances, aging, diabetes, and so many more health related issues that can gradually lead to death. Health and fitness is more serious than many realize. If you are not concerned about your health or fitness, then this is the wrong article for you to be reading; but I am not one of those people that take my health and fitness lightly. I don&#039;t go out and over exert myself, but I include some type of activity into my daily schedule. To help you see the importance of fitness and health, I am going to break down some medical issues so that you can see where negligence can lead.</p>
<p>Statistics has shown that one of the widespread causes of death is linked to &#034;anorexia heart failure,&#034; and the widespread cause of death for &#034;rupturing in the intestinal area as well as heat failure,&#034; is bulimia. I endured both of these eating disorders, and I am amazed that I don&#039;t suffer more problems that what I do now.</p>
<p>When we don&#039;t&#039; eat right, including forcing anorexia and bulimia on our bodies, our internal and external body parts suffer. I can&#039;t stress enough how important it is for individuals to eat healthy. If you believe that not eating for days can help you loose weight then you are off balance. Sure, you might reduce your weight but you are killing your body and brain.<br />
Most people are unaware that eating three meals per day in moderation can help them maintain weight, as well as loose weight. Eating right is part of your health and fitness plan, and if you don&#039;t know what you should do, the Internet, library, specialists, and other pieces of information are available to help you learn. Most of the information is free, so there is no excuses why you are not eating right, except that you are misinformed or simply don&#039;t care.</p>
<p>Bones are a part of our internal body that enables us to walk, run, sit, stand, and lift, and so on. When our bones are neglected because we are not exercising, then our bones are subject to deterioration, breaks, fractures, and so on. If on the other hand we are taking care of our body, then our bones will respond accordingly and walking, running, lifting, standing will not be a chore, but rather an enjoyable task.</p>
<p>Brain: Most people ask what the brain has to do with our body. Well the quick answer to that question is the brain is the core of our body. The brain has all our neuron, cells, and other components that make the bodywork. If your brain is not receiving proper nutrient, exercise, and so on, then your body will suffer. If you take a walk for example, your brain is recording this information. Similar to a computer, our brain takes in all data, activities, hardware, and so on and puts it in its proper perspective. If your brain is trained to a time where you are expected to walk as a part of your fitness and health, then your brain will trigger you when it is time for you to walk. On the other hand, if you are a couch potato, then your brain has no data to send, and therefore you will sit on a couch for hours, without activities, other than common worries and stress. That&#039;s right, if you are not exercising your chances of stress and worries are increased.</p>
<p>Therefore, put that body and mind to work and start your routine excise now to preserve your health.</p>

<p>Aerobics aims to increase the consumption by the body of the quantity of oxygen consumed whereas step aerobics tries to build towards achieving the same goals through more intensive workouts. To do so, requires the use of a step or platform that provides a little more boost through the integration of an action consisting of stepping onto a platform resulting in it becoming a more intensive form of workout. For the person that has a low budget, however, any household item will be an adequate substitute such as a block of wood, a milk crate, or, even a short stool all of which can act as a raised platform.</p>
<p>The only thing to be careful about is that the item should be sturdy and safe so that there is no injury sustained as a result of falling or by twisting an ankle on an unstable step or platform. One should also have proper workout apparel as well as a good pair of sneakers which should preferably be light in weight because there is a lot of stepping to be done and the footwear should also support the arch of the foot as well be able to absorb shocks. Also, one can increase the rapidity of the steps or even raise the platform and this should result in increased fitness and skill. Between appropriate dress and looking the role of a winner, you can help give the judges a good impression of you by following some simple steps and practicing your routine until you have it perfected.</p>
<p>Aside from the obvious idea of practicing you should always make sure you get plenty of rest before competitions. While you are going to be nervous, excited and probably have trouble sleeping it is important that you take the time you need to rest. Get at least a minimum of eight hours of sleep before a competition to ensure that you are well rested. Slacking on sleep means you will not have as much energy to devote to your routine and can look quite run down. This is never appealing to judges no matter how well you perform your routine.</p>
<p>You should always ensure that you smile. Not smiling can make you look sad, grumpy, or even tired. Not exactly the star traits that the judges are looking for. No matter how bad your day is going, put a smile on during your routine and try to make sure it does not look forced or faked. A small natural smile will go so far in winning over the judges and help cast your entire routine in a positive light.</p>
<p>Stretch and stand up straight. Never, ever walk out onto a mat while you are slouching. This is a huge faux pas and gives the judges an awful first impression. Impression is everything and you want to portray perfection just in simple tasks such as walking. So stand up straight and lift that chin. Never show that you are scared or afraid, try to keep your emotions bottled up, which will help you appear much calmer as well.</p>
<p>Look confident the entire time you are in front of the judges. This includes before and during your routine. You can look confident by always standing straight, keeping your legs straight, and keeping your chin up. Dropping your chin or bending your legs can make you look weak and unsure of yourself. You want to portray to the judges that you are the best they have ever seen. Keep your routine flowing and always recover quickly if you make a mistake. Make sure your movements are sharp and crisp and avoid slow and sloppy movements.</p>
<p>Make sure you stretch thoroughly before doing your routing in front of the judges. Never wait until the last moment to warm up either, you should start warming up a minimum of 30 minutes before your turn in front of the judges. This will allow you plenty of time to warm up your muscles slowly. Rushing through a warm up to hurry and perform can leave you injured and upset. If you rush through your warm up it can also have the negative effect of shaking your nerves. When in a competition you must remain calm, this means a slow warm up, taking your time getting ready and avoiding all stress as much as possible. A slow warm up is relaxing while a rushed warm up will leave you stressed.</p>
<p>Your last step should be always tuning out your competition as much as possible. Someone will always be better than you, and you will always be better than someone else. This is the facts of competition, accept it, and instead of focusing on the competition focus on doing your best.</p>

They seem to stiffen up with age, and such commonplace activities as bending over for the morning paper can make them wince.</p>
<p>Such pain can grip so fiercely that they are sure it begins deep in their bones. But the real cause of stiffness and soreness lies not in the joints or bones, according to research at the Johns Hopkins Medical School, but in the muscles and connective tissues that move the joints.</p>
<p>The frictional resistance generated by the two rubbing surfaces of bones in the joints is negligible, even in joints damaged by arthritis.</p>
<p>Flexibility is the medical term used to describe the range of a joint&#039;s motion from full movement in one direction to full movement in the other. The greater the range of movement, the more flexible the joint.</p>
<p>If you bend forward at the hips and touch your toes with your fingertips, you have good flexibility, or range of motion of the hip joints. But can you bend over easily with a minimal expenditure of energy and force? The exertion required to flex a joint is just as important as its range of possible motion.</p>
<p>Different factors limit the flexibility and ease of movement in different joints and muscles. In the elbow and knee, the bony structure itself sets a definite limit. In other joints, such as the ankle, hip, and back, the soft tissue-muscle and connective tissue-limit the motion range.</p>
<p>The problem of inflexible joints and muscles is similar to the difficulty of opening and closing a gate because of a rarely used and rusty hinge that has become balky.</p>
<p>Hence, if people do not regularly move their muscles and joints through their full ranges of motion, they lose some of their potential. That is why when these people will try to move a joint after a long period of inactivity, they feel pain, and that discourages further use</p>
<p>What happens next is that the muscles become shortened with prolonged disuse and produces spasms and cramps that can be irritating and extremely painful. The immobilization of muscles, as researchers have demonstrated with laboratory animals, brings about biochemical changes in the tissue.</p>
<p>However, other factors trigger sore muscles. Here are some of them:</p>
<p>1. Too much exercise</p>
<p>Have you always believed on the saying, &#034;No pain, no gain?&#034; If you do, then, it is not so surprising if you have already experienced sore muscles.</p>
<p>The problem with most people is that they exercise too much thinking that it is the fastest and the surest way to lose weight. Until they ache, they tend to ignore their muscles and connective tissue, even though they are what quite literally holds the body together.</p>
<p>2. Aging and inactivity</p>
<p>Connective tissue binds muscle to bone by tendons, binds bone to bone by ligaments, and covers and unites muscles with sheaths called fasciae. With age, the tendons, ligaments, and fasciae become less extensible. The tendons, with their densely packed fibers, are the most difficult to stretch. The easiest are the fasciae. But if they are not stretched to improve joint mobility, the fasciae shorten, placing undue pressure on the nerve pathways in the muscle fasciae. Many aches and pains are the result of nerve impulses traveling along these pressured pathways.</p>
<p>3. Immobility</p>
<p>Sore muscles or muscle pain can be excruciating, owing to the body&#039;s reaction to a cramp or ache. In this reaction, called the splinting reflex, the body automatically immobilizes a sore muscle by making it contract. Thus, a sore muscle can set off a vicious cycle pain.</p>
<p>First, an unused muscle becomes sore from exercise or being held in an unusual position. The body then responds with the splinting reflex, shortening the connective tissue around the muscle. This cause more pain, and eventually the whole area is aching. One of the most common sites for this problem is the lower back.</p>
<p>4. Spasm theory</p>
<p>In the physiology laboratory at the University of Southern California, some people have set out to learn more about this cycle of pain.</p>
<p>Using some device, they measured electrical activity in the muscles. The researchers knew that normal, well-relaxed muscles produce no electrical activity, whereas, muscles that are not fully relaxed show considerable activity.</p>
<p>In one experiment, the researchers measured these electrical signals in the muscles of persons with athletic injuries, first with the muscle immobilized, and then, after the muscle had been stretched.</p>
<p>In almost every case, exercises that stretched or lengthened the muscle diminished electrical activity and relieved pain, either totally or partially.</p>
<p>These experiments led to the &#034;spasm theory,&#034; an explanation of the development and persistence of muscle pain in the absence of any obvious cause, such as traumatic injury.</p>
<p>According to this theory, a muscle that is overworked or used in a strange position becomes fatigued and as a result, sore muscles.</p>
<p>Hence, it is extremely important to know the limitations and capacity of the muscles in order to avoid sore muscles. This goes to show that there is no truth in the saying, &#034;No pain, no gain.&#034; What matters most is on how people stay fit by exercising regularly at a normal range than once rarely but on a rigid routine.</p>
