Fly fishing is a special approach to fishing. (...)

Fly fishing is a special approach to fishing. Fly fishing is different from bait-casting or spin-casting because fly fishing uses a weighted line to carry the nearly weightless bait forward when casting. Traditional fishing tackle is designed to have a nearly weightless line carried by weighted bait on the end. Because of this important difference fly fishing has its own gear, equipment and terminology.

Fly fishing also requires some different techniques than traditional fishing. Traditional fishing may involve casting a baited hook and waiting for a fish to bite or casting and retrieving a baited hook. However, fly fishing involves casting repeatedly with brief pauses to allow the fly to float in the current.

Fly fishing rods are different than traditional fishing rods in several ways. Fly fishing rods are longer than most fishing rods with their length frequently between six and nine feet. Some fly fishing rods are even longer than nine feet, particularly those rods designed for salmon or steelhead fishing.

Fly fishing reels vary from traditional fishing reels as well. Fly fishing actually does not require much use of the reel. Early fly fishing reels were little more than storage space for the line. Fish are not reeled in when caught; rather, the angler strips line with his or her free hand. Many fly reels still are very primitive with designs very similar to those used in the 19th century.

Fly fishing line is quite different from traditional fishing line. While traditional fishing line is made of a clear, monofilament material, fly fishing line is comparatively heavy and translucent. Fly fishing line may be designed to float or to sink depending on the style of fishing it is intended for; the line also may be tapered or level, again depending on the type of fishing that is planned and the preference of the angler. Fly fishing line is available in different weights. Heavier line can be cast further and has greater wind-resistance than lighter line. However, a lighter line may provide for more precise casting by an experienced angler. Fly fishing line is normally around 90 feet long but may be attached to a backer to lengthen the overall line available for fish that like to fight.

A leader is attached to the end of the fly fishing line. The fly is tied to the end of the leader. The leader is a clear, monofilament line normally between six and fifteen feet in length. The leader is tapered to a narrower diameter an the end of the line.

Fly fishing is also special because of the variety of fishing opportunities it provides. Fly fishing techniques can be used on streams, rivers, ponds and lakes. Fly fishing works in salt water and fresh water, cold water and warm water. Fly fishing can open up many opportunities to fish new waters because the techniques and equipment are so adaptable.

Fly fishing includes an interesting history that extends back at least to the second century. Macedonian fishermen successfully used artificial flies on six-foot poles to catch fish with. Fly fishing popularity increased in 19th century England and Scotland before catching on in the United States.

Fly fishing is a historically interesting, challenging approach to fishing. Fly fishing offers many opportunities and variations to anglers. Fly fishing also includes a nostalgic element that may not be found with other fishing styles.

Fly fishing has been a method of successful fishing for centuries. Some credit the English Isles with being the birth place of this method but there are many other places that have historical documentation of fly fishing. Men in history soon became aware that fish like to eat flies and that catching the fish could be successful if the fly could be imitated. What probably began as an exercise of necessity soon became a fun sport. Nothing is more rewarding than spending a day at the water fishing for the night's dinner.

Men and women of all walks of life have found the sport of fly fishing to be very enjoyable.

Great Places To Go Fly Fishing

Some of the most popular places to go fly fishing are in the northwest United States and in western Canada. These areas provide many mountain rivers and streams that are full of trout, salmon and other species that are great fun to catch with fly equipment. One such river in Montana, the Madison River, was made particularly famous in the movie "A River Runs Through It." This river and the surrounding area is very typical of the northwest fishing opportunities.

Another great place to fly fish in the United States is the New England rivers. Rivers in Connecticut, New York, and the other New England states have been fly fished for years with great success. Some of these rivers have undergone a lot of environmental clean up to repair damage done to them in the 1900's. With these environmental efforts the fish species have been restored to once more provide great sporting opportunities. It is great to know that much of the money paid for licensing goes to help maintain the natural beauty and balance of these waters.

There are also many other opportunities for great fly fishing all around the world. England, Germany, Austria and other European countries have waters which boast great histories in the area of fly fishing. New Zealand is another country with good fishing opportunities. This beautiful island nation also has the benefit of being in the southern hemisphere so avid fisherman from northern countries can have a wonderful winter vacation taking advantage of the New Zealand summer.

Where ever and when ever a person has a chance to spend some time fly fishing is sure to be rewarding. The beauty of the various locations accompanied by the great excitement of having a fish on the line is simply indescribable. Fly fishing is truly a sport to be enjoyed by all.

Sometimes even the most techno-oriented person would like to live his life in the streams where living comes on hand. Bass fishing report either be coming home with nothing bass on hand, or getting your camera to capture the moment of having your finest catch.

Bass are fishes with different kinds; the striped bass and the largemouth bass, small mouth bass and spotted bass. The striped bass comes from the family of Percicthyidae and its other members include white bass and white perch. The striped bass and white bass are also known as temperate basses- exercising moderation and self restraints.

Stripped bass fishing can sometimes be very different activity compared to chasing those regular bass. The important thing to remember is that each and every fish requires a slightly different approach to maximize the possibility of success. The best way to go about things is to know the fish itself. Learn its movement and capability to escape as a prey.

The largemouth bass, small mouth bass and spotted bass- belong to the sunfish family Centrarchidae whose other members include: bluegills, pumpkinseed and rock bass. These basses are also referred to as warm water basses or black basses.

A smallmouth bass is a greenish brown color, with a vertically striped side. The most suitable way to distinguish the two is simply by looking at their mouth.

If you recognize the upper jawbone extends past the eye then you know you have a large mouth bass on your hands. On the other hand, if the fish has a reddish eye, and the upper jaw bone stops before the eye, then you have caught a smallmouth bass.

Another good clue is the weight, a small mouth bass ways and average of seven and a half pounds. The best place to go small mouth bass fishing is near rocky streams. Once you have caught them, they pretty much taste like a large mouth bass.

Bass have progressively and gradually grow to be the most well-liked freshwater sport in the United States. Their popularity has increased due to the rise of the bass fishing tournament industry that helps sell recreational fishing products and train other fishermen on how to catch bass.

Modern Bass Fishing has its roots in the Southern United States, originally for the purpose of food-hunt. The sport has evolved into a multi-billion dollar industry. The sport has changed radically since the 1950's from modest beginnings and has develops into the second most specifically sought after game fish in the USA. The sport has driven the development of all manner of fishing gear, from rods, reels, lines, lures, and electronics to modern 'Bass Boats'.

Competitive bass fishing alone generates approximately two billion dollars annually. Overall the latest numbers place the value of the sport at over seven billion US dollars.

The majority of participants no longer views Bass as a food fish. Nowadays, most fish are released as soon as it is caught. In competition anglers are penalized heavily for dead fish, in some cases dead fish are not weighed. Fish turned in for weighing are immediately released or placed in tanks and treated for stress and injury to their slime coats, then released back into the water.

Sports fishermen and governmental wildlife departments have initiated the Largemouth across the world. Largemouth bass can be found worldwide, Japan, Australia and South Africa have active programs of stocking. The subculture of competitive Bass Fishing has followed the fish across the globe. There have been a number of tournament events in the USA involving invited participants from Japan, South Africa and Australia.

Anglers themselves had created an organization where fishers can best enjoy the camaraderie of bass fishing with fellow sportsmen. Bass Fishing Clubs take their existence all the way to United States, and are split up by the western, central, and eastern divisions. These Bass Fishing clubs is an assortment -from competitive to recreational.

A usual bass fishing club will give and offer its member with newsletters, and occasionally periodicals that provide information about upcoming events, contests and tournaments. Bass Fishing clubs are a great way to get involved in tournament fishing as they can often be used as springboards to enter national tournaments.

Most of these bass fisher clubs have their own web pages where you can gather more information about the club specifically, including dues, locations and pictures and write ups of past events and tournament regarding bass fishing sport.

Unfortunately, we cannot give you the best insights on the most suitable technique in bass fishing because everything differs in one way or another. A small bass is differently caught from a big bass. The technique lies within your hand. It depends on you what technique to use best.

Fly fishing is a popular sport among people of all ages. For these people, there is nothing better than spending a day with friends and family out on the water trying to catch a big fish for bragging rights. As much fun as these people have doing this sport, how many people have actually stopped to consider the actual history of fly fishing? For those that do stop to consider it, they will find that the history of fly fishing is an interesting one.

The Mediterranean And European Connection

The earliest instances of fly fishing were recorded by a Roman named Claudius Aelianus. It was during this time (the end of the 2nd century) that he told of how Macedonian anglers used long poles cast out in the water (much in the manner of modern fly fishing) of the Astraeus River.

Fly fishing as it is commonly known today originated on the rocky shores of Northern England and Scotland. The sport continued to be developed during the 19th century in Britain. During this time, there was a rise in popularity of clubs and books on the subject.

Dry fly fishing became an elite hobby in Southern England, as it was considered the only appropriate way to fish in rivers such as Dorset, Hampshire, Berkshire, and Surrey. The reason for this was that the weeds grew very close to the surface of these rivers, and so it was important to develop this dry technique, so that the line and the fly could be kept on the stream's surface.

Fly Fishing And The United States

The American attitude towards fly fishing during the 19th century was not as particular as what was adopted in Britain. Dry and wet methods of the sport were implemented according to the different water conditions throughout the country.

Also during this time, Americans experiments with different materials to be used in the fly fishing experience. Fishing lines were made out of horse hair or silk, and rods were made out of woods such as greenheart (a tropical wood) and bamboo.

Fly fishing reached the height of its popularity during the 1920s. Many famous people delighted in the sport, and the most popular locations for the sport were in Wisconsin, Vermont, and Maine. Literature and movies have also contributed to the sport's popularity. Ernest Hemingway's book The Sun Also Rises, as well as the Brad Pitt movie A River Runs Through it, both featured this sport in their storylines.

Thus, for those who enjoy this sport, the next time they embark upon a fishing trip they can now know that it is a sport that has been hundreds of years in the making. Indeed, this sport is just getting better and better with new techniques being developed all the time to make the experience the best that it can be.

For the majority people, Christmas time means shopping for gifts, cards and presents for their friends, family, co-workers and many others. (...)

For the majority people, Christmas time means shopping for gifts, cards and presents for their friends, family, co-workers and many others. Unfortunately, shopping for Christmas often times creates a lot of stress and burden for people due to the fact that they have to go out, fight the crowds and pay retail prices for the Christmas gifts they buy.

Now, you can get all of your Christmas gifts and supplies including ornaments, trees, cards, crafts and cookies at discount prices online and at the same time, same lots of time! Like the bass fishing Christmas card, they are also available online.

We all know that almost everybody in Florida is fascinated with bass fishing. They even consider bass fishing as their number one freshwater sport.

Most of these anglers have built bass fishing services because of them; bass fishing is already a hard habit to break.

Not only that, some of them would even make Christmas cards inspired from bass fishing. They do this as an effective business product especially on the holiday seasons or any other special occasions.

For children, Christmas cards are colorful and are usually printed with jokes, stickers, or games. There are also special Christmas cards that hold money or gift cards. For adults, Christmas cards are often either traditional or humorous. And most of the adults get their Christmas cards on the Internet.

Like Bass Fishing Christmas Cards which can be redeemed for online purchases, catalog orders, and purchases.

Most Bass Fishing Gift Cards are mailed separately to the shipping address of your choice. Such as:

* Bass Fishing Christmas Cards delivered in 3-6 business days.

* Catalog(s) or the gift cards are shipped separately.

* Free standard shipping to US zip codes

* Gift Card amounts are in US funds

Not only that, here's your second choice…

Most Bass Fishing Greeting Cards businesses provide a great way to send a gift almost instantly to your favorite outdoor enthusiast. Simply provide them with the dollar amount and they will email a Gift Card that can be used immediately.

These are important reminders on how you can get the card that you order:

* Most Bass Fishing Christmas Gift Cards are delivered within four hours if ordered during normal business hours. Otherwise they may take 4 to 24 hours to be delivered.

* These gift cards are usually delivered without any problems. However, a full inbox, invalid email address, or a spam filter can prevent the greeting card from reaching the recipient's inbox. In order to be certain that a Gift Card has been received, please check with the recipient.

* Gift Cards are available for U.S. orders only and are in US funds.

* Catalogs will not be mailed, but current catalogs can be viewed online.

And here is your third choice, if you want your bass fishing Christmas card to be more memorable do it yourself. It's the thought that counts, not the amount anyway!

An ordinary hand-made Christmas card is very special, how much more if it was motivated by bass fishing? Very peculiar is it not? And yet too easy!

Here's what you will need:

- a piece of card 17cm x 25cm
- a piece of crepe paper or tissue paper slightly smaller than the card
- several pieces of colored paper, recycled or interesting texture
- metallic braid or cord, or colored ribbon inspire
- ruler
- glue
- scissors
- pinking shears

and of course do not forget your pictures with the bass fishes (have it scanned please)

And here's the easy way to do it:

1. Carefully fold the piece of card in half.

2. Use a very small amount of glue to fix the tissue paper inside the card as a lining.

3. Trim a piece of colored paper with pinking shears, so that it measures 13cm x 8cm. Glue it to the front of the card, leaving an equal margin on each side.

4. Cut a simple shape - a Christmas tree, a star, bells etc. - from an interesting paper of a toning or contrasting color. Glue the shape to the front of the card.

5. When you are done with that, edit the picture that you have just scanned. You can use Paint Shop Pro for it.

There you have it, just use your creativity and you'll have a Bass fishing Christmas card to give to a bass fishing enthusiast.

The sport of fly fishing consists of many specialized skills that come together in a delicate balance of rhythm and precision. Setting the hook is one of those specialized skills. Many times the techniques for setting the hook are neglected by fly fishermen who spend many hours practicing and reading about casting and fly tying skills. Unlike many of the skills of fly fishing, it is almost impossible to practice setting the hook without a live fish on the end of your fly line.

The first step in a successful hook actually begins when you tie your fly, either at home or on the river bank. It is very important to make sure that your hooks are razor-sharp. A dull hook doesn't have a good chance of finding its mark in the mouth of the trout.

In most fly fishing techniques it is important to set the hook as quickly as possible. If the water is fast, the trout usually strikes the fly very quickly and with a lot of force. It won't take long for the trout to realize that he has an artificial fly in his mouth, and he can, and will spit it out in a split second.

Fly fishing in slow moving water is the one exception to setting the hook as quickly as possible. When the water is slow trout feed in a more leisurely fashion. They may require a second or two in order to take the fly. If you set the hook too soon, you'll most likely pull the fly away from the trout. However, if you set the hook too late the trout may have already spit it out. There again is the delicate balance so often seen in fly fishing.

Sometimes while fly fishing the fishermen becomes so excited when he hooks a trout that he sets the hook with too much force. This usually results in broken tippits. Setting the hook quickly, doesn't mean pulling on it with great force. One way to avoid broken tippits is to use a slip strike which cushions the tippit.

If you are fly fishing using an upstream presentation, strip in the line with your line hand at the moment that you set the hook. This will remove most of the slack in the line and improve your chances for a good hook set.

When setting the hook using surface techniques of fly fishing, it is very important that you are able to see your fly in order to get a good hook set. If you are fly fishing using an underwater technique, it is essential that you can see your indicator when setting the hook. In both instances timing is very important.

Many experienced fly fishermen spend a lot of time imagining the strike and thinking about how they will move when they set the hook. They do this because they know that in fly fishing, the more imaginary trout you hook and land in your mind, the better your chances of taking an actual fish.

Wisconsin is a great place for fly fishing, as many experienced anglers can tell you. Much of the state of Wisconsin was formed by glaciers passing through the area hundreds and hundreds of years ago. The best result from this glacial activity was the formation of many rivers and tributaries from the nearby Great Lakes.

That's what makes fly fishing in Wisconsin so wonderful! Wisconsin fly fishing provides the most diverse trout fishing in the Midwest. The northeastern Wisconsin streams provide challenges in fly fishing that require the angler to wade for fish hidden behind big boulders. Southwestern Wisconsin streams provide a challenge for fly fishermen who have a lot of patience.

Streams in southwestern Wisconsin include Castle Rock Creek and Timber Coulee that support excellent fly fishing, natural reproduction, and mayfly and caddis hatches galore. The streams in this part of the state are spring creeks which support large numbers of fish, mostly Brown Trout, but they don't come easily. Dry fly fishing can be excellent but on heavily fished streams, emergers and lesser used flies can be more productive than standard dry flies.

For most streams in this area, anglers need to use light tackle, long leaders, and stealthy approaches. The streams tend to be narrow which makes casting accuracy much more important than casting distance.

Central Wisconsin is home to gin clear streams where you can see fish from where you stand. This area is known as "Sand Counties" because the landscape is extremely flat to gently rolling with very sandy soil. The streams run deep with little fish holding structures. To the untrained fly fisher, this might seem like a place where you wouldn't want to fish. Nothing could be more wrong!

Stream structures are heavily used and deep holes are common particularly along the outside of a bend, and deadfalls and root wads can hold a lot of fish. This area is where stream structures were first devised. The water quality of these streams is excellent and helps support incredible natural reproduction. Wild Brook Trout are the most common fish but natural reproducing browns and even some rainbows can be found.

The freestone streams of Northern Wisconsin tumble violently over bedrock. The freestone rivers are home to the best pocket water fly fishing in Wisconsin. Casting a nymph or a dry fly attractor around the boulders is often a way to catch large numbers of fish. The meadow streams are favored by fishermen who enjoy fishing light leaders and small flies.

There are some amazing places you can fly fish in the great state of Wisconsin. You'll be surrounded by rolling hills and grazing cattle as you try to land your next big fish. When you are an avid fly fisherman, you'll find a wealth of fun and enjoyment in the streams of Wisconsin!

For practical purposes, any fly fishing vest that fits your body works for a gaming tour. However, it is a unique experience to have a vest that not only fits well but also provides maximum comfort and keeps one organized for long periods of time. Today, a wide variety of fly fishing vests are available. Since the prices are not widely different, you need to choose a vest that will provide the best result for spending nearly the same amount of money. Four main types of fly fishing vest are commercially available as described below.

Standard Fabric Fly Fishing Vests

This specialized vest type is considered standard among the majority of anglers. This is because this type carries many pockets and hence greater capacity to let you go loaded with fishing tools. A standard fly fishing vest is best for any fly fishing occasion.

Mesh Fly Fishing Vests

Mesh vests are a variety of the standard fly-fishing vest and is distinguished from the standard type by its mesh construction. This makes a mesh vest cooler and ideal for use in summer season.

Chest Fishing Vests

This special design of vest carries a large front pocket on the chest and a few small compartments. This type of vest is compact in texture and hence very appropriate for both small stream and overgrown river packs.

Waist Fishing Vests

The waist fly fishing vest is more recent among the fishing vests. It is small in size but compact and suited for use by expert fly fishing enthusiasts.

Choosing a Comfortable Vest

For a long day of fishing adventure, choosing a vest that is at once comfortable to the shoulders and back becomes a necessity. Rule out vests with heavy metal buckles for wearing on shoulders. Conversely, avoid also very thin and stiff sort of shoulder straps. Many new designs are now available in the market that promise comfort to shoulders, back, and neck.

Pockets in the Vest

Pockets are a very important feature of the fly fishing vest since these hold the different necessities of fly fishing. While this makes a many-pocket vest an ideal one, having too many pockets can be both confusing and bothersome, when all are loaded with fishing stuff. Usually, a vest with 15 to 25 pockets is the best choice. Also, choose a vest that carries pockets of varying sizes. This allows easy management of both large and small fishing tools. If you can find a vest with four to six large pockets and other smaller ones, go for it.

Bass fishing represents one of the most popular fishing sports practiced today. Its popularity has yielded a multi-billion dollar industry unto itself, aside from the business of other modes of sport fishing. There are boats on the market designed specifically for bass fishing. Clothes and gears are also very popular.

Freshwater sport fishing in Florida provided recreational opportunities for over 1.32 million people, over age 16, and generated an economic output of $2.0 billion in 2001. Aside from that, Florida freshwater recreational fishing generated 19,519 jobs with earnings of $484 million in 2001. Florida freshwater fishing provided 20.8 million angler days of recreation (92% resident) based on 14.5 million trips. (A trip is from the time someone leaves home until they return and may include many days; a day is defined by an activity on a specific day.)

Bass habitats include a variety of environments, from rivers, lakes, streams, and even ponds. Rivers provide one of the healthiest habitats, due to the highly oxygenated waters from the rapid current. In order to fish bass from rivers, it is best to seek out breaks in the current, perhaps from a fallen tree, a stump, or rocks. The fish that bass feed upon will normally school below a dam, thereby making these spots ideal for bass fishing.

There are at least 32 species of fish commonly caught in the numerous lakes, ponds, canals and rivers throughout Southwest Florida. The anglers pursuing the most popular of these freshwater game fish are locally referred to as either bass fisherman, "perch jerkers", pan fisherman or catfishermen, depending upon the object of their pursuit.

The most common and popular of these are Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Panfish, Chain pickerel and Crappie.

Largemouth Bass without a doubt is the most sought after game fish in Florida. It is the main target of the majority of anglers. Many of these lure busting monsters in the 10 to 12 pound range are taken every year in local waters.

The yellow and brown bullhead, followed by the channel catfish, is the most abundant in the area. They are favored by sportsman for the delicious table fare that they provide. Also harvested commercially, mainly on Lake Okeechobee, and their tasty fillets are served as an "all you can eat" favorite in most area restaurants. But it is still the bass fish that promises the challenge of the sport.

Every freshwater river, canal, lake and pond in South West Florida is abundant with what is locally referred to as "panfish" for the thick tasty fillets they provide. The term actually covers a wide variety of pan sized fish in the sunfish family. These include, but are not limited to, the following: bluegill, bream, warmouth, and the most sought after, redeared sunfish, locally referred to as a "shellcracker" for its diet of aquatic snails. Another favorite is the exotic oscar, which has flourished in the hundreds of miles of canals in the area.

An angler needs only to arm themselves with a cane pole and a can of worms or crickets for guaranteed success in catching supper. However, most anglers opt for the ultra-light spinning outfits with tiny spinners and spoons, or the fly rod with popping bugs. Catches of fifty or more a day are common.

While not particularly sought after, the pickerel must still be considered a game fish for its savage attacks on the lures most commonly thrown by bass fisherman. They are fast, tackle busting acrobatic fighters. While edible, they are usually released due the many pesky little bones in their fillets.

Also locally called speckled perch or "specks" and considered as the favorite of the "perch jerkers" or crappie fisherman that pursue them. These quick striking fish fall for a variety of lures. They congregate in large schools and once located, provide the angler with plenty of action and a great fish fry.

There are innumerable techniques and types of tackle available to practice the sport of bass fishing. For a beginner, it is advised to gather some more basic tools to get started. Some suggestions point towards acquiring a 10-pound line, suitable for the average sizes and weights of this species. Also, it is suggested to start with artificial bait until the angler has a better understanding of the unique characteristics of the bass fish. The Spinnerbait is common artificial bait used by both amateur and seasoned anglers.

The catch and release method was first introduced in the 1950s. It was designed to reduce the rising costs of restocking hatchery-raised fish, and was normally used for fish not meant for consumption. Popular consensus does not consider bass as a food fish, and thus this technique is widely used.
