The movie, which also stars Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan and Rosamund Pike, follows a group of friends trying to complete a legendary pub crawl that they failed to finish in years past. Aliens get involved, and it looks like great fun.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

The World’s End will released on July 19th in the UK and August 23rd in the States.

We also see a few new action shots, and more of Wolverine’s battle with the Silver Samurai.

What could possibly go wrong? Well, aside from not meeting certain studio expectations regarding its opening, nothing really. Star Trek Into Darkness took the top spot at the box office, no problems there, yet something is not right.

Coming after a movie as well received as the 2009’s Star Trek, one would expect a sequel to at the very least match, if not exceed, the predecessors’ numbers. Then how come Stark Trek Into Darkness debuted with a $70.1 million weekend while Star Trek got off to a $75.2 million start? Not to mention 4 years of ticket price inflation and the added benefit of 3D overcharging. But then we go further, after 4 days the original generated $86.7 million while Into Darkness “only” made $83.7 million. That’s just not right, so either Star Trek hit its North American box office ceiling with the 2009 film or the market is worse now than 4 years ago. I’m more inclined to believe the first part, so that being said, don’t take my initial approach towards Into Darkness’ numbers the wrong way. This is a bonafide hit, a blockbuster if I ever saw one. Even if it drops faster than Star Trek 2009, it should still easily pass $200 million. That’s the worst case scenario; best case is $250 million, in line with the $257.7 million of the previous entry.

Iron Man 3 drops to 2nd place with $35.7 million, down a solid 50.7%. Ok, that’s solid and not good because I was expecting the superhero flick to already be around 45%, seems we’ll have to wait another week for a softer drop. Anyway, after 17 days Iron Man 3 grossed $337.6 million, bringing its awe inspiring worldwide total closer to $1.1 billion.
The Great Gatsby moved to 3rd, $23.9 million for the weekend and $90.6 million so far after 10 days in theaters. This is now by far the most successful movie of director Buz Luhramann’s career. For star Leonardo DiCaprio it will become his 8th $100+ million earner.

Pain and Gain is still here only because there isn’t anything else out there (that’s not one of the above) strong enough. So that’s how a $3.2 million weekend can get a film all the way to #4. Oh, and its total is $46.7 million thus far.

Rounding out the top 5 is the only kids film in the top 10, The Croods with $3 million. DreamWorks Animation should be proud of this feature’s $177 million (and they are, since a sequel is well underway).

So why do you think Star Trek Into Darkness couldn’t match Star Trek‘s opening?

As a guest on Larry King Now, Aykroyd discussed new story details for the sequel.

The movie revolves around new research that’s being done in particle physics by students at Columbia University. He tells King, “Our world, the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence: length, height, width & time, become threatened by some of the research being done and the new Ghostbusters have to come and solve the problem.”

There will be four new Ghostbusters but no casting decisions have been made yet. While Aykroyd will be returning, Bill Murray is not interested. Aykroyd says, “I don’t blame him for that. He’s a good friend, I love him, but he doesn’t want to reprise the role. However, there will be a role for him. If Billy wants to walk through the door and be in the movie, we will find a place.”

Larry King appeared in the first Ghostbusters as himself while he was hosting Larry King Live and Aykroyd tells him that he will absolutely be in the third. “Of course we’re going to be doing you and your new format.”

Earlier in the interview Aykroyd claimed to have seen four UFO’s in his lifetime, leaving King to imply that he actually believes in all this stuff. Aykroyd didn’t flat out deny it. “Well, I believe in science. I believe in entertainment. I think to contemplate the idea of ghosts and the survival of the consciousness; it’s very, very entertaining.”

If all goes well, Ghostbusters 3 will be released sometime in 2014 which would mark the 30th anniversary of the first film.

If you wonder why is that, well, there simply aren’t that many (shaken, not stirred) franchises that could claim such a thing. With the release of Star Trek Into Darkness this weekend, it gives us a grand total of 12 Star Trek movies, all in the last 34 years. On average we got a film every 3 years, but I’m sorry Star Wars fans (and I’m one), you got the short end of the stick, at least when it comes to volume.

I’m not here to stir yet another Trek versus Wars fight, no, I am here to give you the top 10 most successful Star Trek films of all time at the box office, all adjusted for inflation (obviously) and because of that, only North American numbers. Now the following results might surprise or even anger some of you, but keep in mind, a film’s success (or lack) does not necessarily reflect its quality.

10. Stark Trek V: The Final Frontier $104.4 million ($52.2 million unadjusted) – Directed and written by Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner, this entry was quite the let-down, even more so coming right after The Voyage Home (something of a fan favorite). For me at least, the story in this one is a total blur, but IMDB says something about Mr. Spock’s brother and hijacking the enterprise, so it’s probably true.

9. Star Trek: Insurrection $116.7 million ($70.1 million) – Can’t have such a long-lasting sci-fi series and not bring up the usual rebellion storyline, and Insurrection provided just that. This also happens to be the first next generation entry on our top 10. Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) assumed directing duties here.

8. Stark Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country $142 million ($74.8 million) – Released in 1991 and written by Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spock), this was the last of the original series. With a few exceptions, it was the final voyage for the now old generation. At this point, hit TV show Star Trek: The Next Generation was already into its 5th season, so it makes sense the films changed gears too after The Undiscovered Country.

7. Star Trek: Generations $143.2 million ($75.6 million) – Speaking of generations, here’s the first of the next generation films, with a twist. Instead of going full on TNG, they decided to instead pass the torch with Star Trek: Generations. Suffice to say, Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) meets Captain Kirk in this one (which should technically be impossible, but whatever, sci-fi).

6. Star Trek: First Contact $164.6 million ($92 million) – Two years after Generations, First Contact comes as arguably the best TNG entry. Actually forget that, this IS the best one, no arguing about it.

5. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock $180.7 million ($76.4 million) – Coming off the heels of Khan, so obviously a tough act to follow, The Search for Spock was handed to Leonard Nimoy to direct. Was it a good idea? I think so, instead of trying to copy Wrath of Kahn, he made his own thing and a good one at that.

4. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan $213.1 million ($78.9 million) – Yes, the Empire Strikes Back of trekkies, considered by many the best this series has yet to offer. After an average at best Star Trek: The Motion Picture 3 years before, Wrath of Khan probably came as a surprise for many. Unfortunately I wasn’t born back then so I can’t really vouch for that last bit.

3. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home $229.2 million ($109.7 million) – Humpback whales, time travel, 20th century Earth, I don’t think I need to say more.

2. Star Trek: The Motion Picture $260.2 million ($82.2 million) – How do you turn a decade old TV show that wasn’t all that popular to begin with (at least on TV), running only for 3 season, and make it into a successful motion picture? You don’t, or at least that’s what you’d expect. While not a good movie, we have to give it credit for every other better entry that came after it. Every series needs a beginning and Stark Trek: The Motion Picture was it.

1. Star Trek $274.3 million ($257.7 million) – Reboot or prequel? The answer here is both. J.J. Abrams achieves the almost impossible (not the first time he dabbled in that field, Mission: Impossible 3 anyone) by successfully rebooting this venerable series, with a prequel. Sure, at the end of the day this is more Star Wars than Star Trek but did I mention Abrams is a fan of the force? My honest opinion is if you take it for what it is, a flashier, bombastic Star Trek for a new generation, it’s a lot of fun.

Coincidence or not, both the first and next generation had their best entries the second time around, for Captain Kirk with Wrath of Khan and for Captain Picard with First Contact. Will Star Trek Into Darkness continue that legacy and become the best of its generation?
What’s your favorite Star Trek movie, or hell, even show (cause we’ve got enough there too)?

In the comics the characters are mutants and the children of Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, but in the movie universe the characters could have been used by either 20th Century Fox or Marvel Studios as the rights were shared.

Well it seems Marvel has laid claim to the characters first, so Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be making their big screen début alongside Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and co. Director Joss Whedon confirmed to IGN that the duo will be in the sequel:

“You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”

In the comics Quicksilver is a mutant capable of moving and thinking at superhuman speeds, while his sister the Scarlet Witch has had the power to alter reality and manipulate probability. Mutants haven’t really been established in the Marvel movie universe so their origins and powers may be tweaked. The super speed shouldn’t be a problem, but Scarlet Witch’s powers would suit the X-Men movies better. Saying that, both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch have appeared in The Avengers comics numerous times so their inclusion in The Avengers 2 makes a lot of sense.

So far it’s looking like The Avengers 2 characters will include Tony Stark, Thor, Captain America, The Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch. With Marvel Phase Three in the works we could also see appearances from characters such as Black Panther, Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, but that’s pure speculation at the moment.

If things work out, Nolan could get his wish.

According to The Daily Mail “informal talks have begun between Nolan, his representatives and the powers behind the James Bond pictures, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G .Wilson” for the director to helm Bond 24. The critical and commercial success of Skyfall has raised the bar for future Bond films, but if anyone can take on the challenge it’s Nolan. Anyone who saw Inception can see he’d be a great fit.

It’s still early days, and whether the movie moves forward with Nolan will depend on many factors. He’s currently preparing to shoot Interstellar with Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain which will keep him busy well into 2014. The last we heard Sony were hoping to have Bond 24 out in late-2014, so there could be a problem there unless they choose to delay production so that Nolan can direct.

What do you think about Nolan potentially directing Bond 24?

To say I’m excited for this film would be an understatement. I consider the original Pitch Black to be among the best sci-fi horrors, certainly superior to most of the stuff we’ve had in the last decade. Now Chronicles of Riddick was a different beast, it wanted to be a much broader movie, big budget, PG-13, thus dropping a lot of what made the first film so enjoyable. It was still an entertaining flick, don’t get me wrong, but a lot was missing, also it kind of bombed at the box office, so I never expected to see another Riddick adventure after that.

We had to wait 9 years for him to come back, and now we have our first long look at the 3rd chapter in the Richard B. Riddick saga. This time around Riddick finds himself left for dead on yet another strange alien planet, betrayed by necromongers, the same people that he was to rule over at the end of Chronicles of Riddick. Being the extremely dangerous and wanted man that he is, Riddick has to deal with a bunch of bounty hunters coming to collect. Things don’t turn out as planned for either party and so we have the opportunity to see our antihero kick some more alien butt.

Directed by David Twohy (Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick), Riddick stars “fast and furious” Vin Diesel and “judge” Karl Urban among others. The film was shot on budget of around $38 million, so as long as it doesn’t suck, it should make that back.

Riddick opens September 6th in North America and the UK.

The sequel is slated to begin filming this summer in New Orleans.

He revealed that John Cusack would not be returning in the lead role as the budget for the sequel is only $12 mil, about a third of what the first installment cost. Instead the lead will be taken over by Adam Scott (Step Brothers, Friends with Kids) who will play Cusack’s character’s son in the future. However, the rest of the cast including Craig Robinson and Clark Duke, as well as director Steve Pink are back on board. Instead of taking place in the 80′s like the first film, this one will travel to the future, but by only about ten years due to budgetary restrictions. The low budget won’t allow for the big special-effects one would expect from a future-based film, but that will only add to the comedic aspect, as it turns out the future isn’t all that cool.

The working title was Hot Tub Time Machine 3: Because Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Hasn’t Happened Yet, but ultimately the marketing department deemed that too ridiculous and confusing. With the first film being a modest hit theatrically but doing great business on DVD, MGM decided that the sequel could be very profitable as long as they kept the budget to a minimum. MGM has been known for their financial troubles in recent years, so they decided to keep this trip to the future reserved, in lieu of shelling out for flying cars and hover boards. Unless you own a hot tub that can get there sooner, expect to see Hot Tub Time Machine 2 around spring/summer 2014.
