Nokia Launches Its Cheapest Phone Yet for Emerging Markets

Nokia has launched a new model Nokia 1280 which is a product for people who cannot afford expensive mobile phones. This mobile phone is 20% cheaper as compared to other model of mobile phones.

The price of this phone is €20 (US$30), which makes it Nokia’s cheapest mobile phone till date.

According to data presented by IE Market Research and Research and Markets, there is a difference between the mobile phone prices in the developing countries and Western countries.

In western countries like U.S the approximate profit was US$51 previous year as compared to the profit of US$6.40 in India. This is because local Indian manufacturer are unable to subsidize high-cost smartphones.

Features offered

Provides a talk time of up to 8.5 hours and a flashlight.
This model of Nokia can save 500 contacts in the phonebook.
FM-radio with a standard 3.5 millimeter stereo headphone jack.
Five different phone books, which should make it simpler for people to share the device.

In addition, Nokia is planning to launch four more phones including 1616, 1800, 2220 slide and 2690.

Support for Nokia Life Tools is one thing that is similar in all these four phones. This tool provides rural areas consumers, services to subscribe to agriculture, education and entertainment related information and content. It’s already available in India, and will soon be made obtainable throughout Indonesia from the beginning of December, Nokia said.

Nokia stated that among the four new phones 2220 will be the first phone that will be available before the end of this year and1280 will be made available in the first quarter next year.

Motorola Planning To Launch 20 Smartphones

In order to improve company’s performance co-CEO of Motorola, Sanjay Jha was appointed previous year. He is planning to come up with a chain of smartphones supported by Google’s Android like "Droid" for Verizon and "Cliq" for T-Mobile.

According to Jha, these phones which are to be launched in 2010 are expected to increase its sales and profits and in turn improving financial performance. It consist of a lot of features that people wish for and require.

Motorola Company has modified these phones and has made them more efficient after realizing that are badly loosing the market share and position in the market.
