Where do you fit into the scheme of things?

Hi all,

Following on from a previous post,"Where did your interest come from?" (click here to read) my thinking then progressed to "Which type of interest do you have?"

Offhand I thought of the major approaches to our subject, which I had come across, e.g. scientific ufology; skeptical. I then recalled that I had once read a much more detailed and thoughtful list in a book by US folklorist Eddie Bullard.

So, off I went to find my copy of "The Myth and Mystery of UFOs," by Thomas E(ddie) Bullard, published in 2011 by The University Press of Kansas. Lawrence, Kansas. ISBN 978-0-7006-1729-6.

In the introduction to the book, Bullard has a section titled "Approaching the problem" which sets out ten different approaches to the phenomenon. I found it an excellent list, and I think you will too, so I present it here for your edification.

1. Scientific ufology:

"For this group UFOs are a phenomenon accessible to rational inquiry. These people pursue in-depth case investigations, critical examination of evidence, comparison of collected data and rigorous research projects to determine if any UFO reports describe an unknown phenomenon." (p.15.)

2. Explorers:

"A larger and more impetuous group than the scientific ufologists explorers care about evidence but only insofar as it supports their beliefs." (pp15-16.)

3. Interested followers:

"This group consists of the consumers rather than the producers of ufology." (p.16.)

4. Activists:

"They regard the existence of UFOs and their extraterrestrial origin as established facts and care only about the implications of alien visitation." (p.16.)

5. Specialists:

"The people who concentrate on one aspect of ufology are sometimes helpful and sometimes harmful to the field." (p.16.)

6. Interlopers:

One type of specialist enters the UFO field for a while, promotes some special interest, and then leaves." (p.16.)

7. Skeptics:

"To counterbalance the believers, there are the disbelievers, the skeptics and debunkers who attack UFOs as a social delusion. (p.17.)

8. Critics:

"The critics who do not reject UFOs as a philosophical creed nevertheless expect convincing evidence and continue to doubt because they have not found sufficient reason to change their minds." (p.17.)

9. Experiencers:

"...the people who claim to have witnessed UFOs." (p.18.)

10. Insiders:

"...an individual who claims privileged information about UFOs." (p.18.)

There is obviously a spectrum of interest, so where do you fit into the scheme of things?

Glass-like Sphere Over Fort Worth, 6-12-2013

A Fort Worth resident reported to MUFON that they observed a translucent, glass-like "ball" in the sky.

Summary: Sphere like object very bright started moving slowly away, the light dimmed leaving outline of sphere, transparent and then disappeared.

Report:
Ive been interested in the Universe and physics for most of my life. Ive spent many nights just gazing at the stars looking for unusual objects. Ive seen hundreds of satellites moving slowly across the night sky. Ive seen the space station as light reflected off of it from the sun as it moved across the sky. I used to see them more frequently living on a farm in Cross Plains, Texas. Now living in the city the lights keep me from seeing such a large number of stars and planets, but on some nights the visibility is good. On several occasions recently Ive see what I initially thought was a satellite moving across the sky only to see it make a complete u turn and head the opposite direction and Ive seen small dimly lit objects moving in different directions across the night sky changing speeds but nothing I could say for sure it was a UFO.

Last night I was having a hard time sleeping, so at 4:00 am I got up and went out to the front porch, it was a good clear night. When I first stepped outside I look across the street toward the Western Sky where I frequently see bright planets and stars, but when I looked up this time I immediately saw this very bright circular object, it was a bright as a car head lamp at one block away. It didnt cast a beam, it glowed brightly. I first thought to myself wow that is the brightest planet Ive ever seen, not even thinking about UFOs. As I stood there for a few seconds it started moving away from me, so I sort of ran toward the road to get a better view. As I did this, the light started to dim until all that was left was a round transparent sphere. It looked like a clear glass ball in the sky. As it kept moving away it slowly disappeared out of sight. I actually stood there for a few minutes with my mouth wide open staring at the sky. This was like nothing Ive seen before. it was big and bright and made no sound. I didnt see any air traffic around for several minutes. I know the patterns the planes take as they approach the airports or take off. I also see fighter jets as they take off from Carswell, they usually fly very high once they get this far. This object was within our atmosphere. Hard to tell how high but to guess 5,000 ft or less. At that height I would guess it was 300 feet in diameter. It emitted its own light, not a reflection.

Lights And Oval Object Observed Near Floydada, Texas, 06-06-2013

Below is an account from a witness in Floydada, Texas who reported their sighting to MUFON. The report is posted here, unedited.

Summary: observed about 60 horizonal red lights in row blinking simultainiously then 6-10 bright white vertical lights flashing upward in sequence from the red light field, later appeared a round object in front with several rows of white lights around it
Report:
We were traveling home from the Lubbock area after a doctor visit on June 6th, 2013, heading East on Hwy 62 moving between Floydada in Floyd County and Matador in Motley County just after 10:30 pm. We had stopped in Floydada for gas at 10:25 pm. I was driving the speed limit of 75 mph with the cruise control on.
It was very dark because there was a new moon. My husband, first saw the red lights to the South of the highway. It was a huge field of bright sequentially blinking bright red lights and it was a little ahead of our position.
My husband said to me "Look at all those bright red lights. It doesnt look like any kind of airfield Ive ever seen, besides this is Floydada. No airfields this large around here." Then I looked and commented that I didnt think airfields had rows of bright red blinking lights. Then he said "They are blinking sequentially."
We were only about a few of miles outside Floydada heading East. There were about 60 to 100 of these red lights in horizontal rows blinking simultaneously about a mile in length and about tree height above the plains. Then suddenly we noticed that we were alongside parallel to the field of red lights, just about in the middle. My husband was telling me excitedly about this as I looked over and saw the same thing. It was parallel with us.
A few minutes after seeing the red light field become parallel to us, we then saw 6 to 10 bright white vertical lights appear within the red light field flashing upward in sequence. However, the white light "pillars" were not in sinc with the red lights. These vertical white lights continued for several minutes and then vanished.
Since I was driving, my husband kept his eyes on the objects. I was looking as much as possible. The objects traveled parallel with us for about 10 to 15 miles continuously then slowed a bit so we were ahead about a quarter mile or so. Then suddenly they were back parallel to us.
By now we were discussing how we were certain that this was and event like nothing either of us had ever encountered before and that these were something unknown and extraordinary. We were not afraid and did not have any feeling of urgency or anything. I wanted to pull over and watch but my husband was so tired and wanted to continue home.
Then, however, another large object just appeared in front of the red light field. It was a round object, not a sphere but a very large circle or large cylindrical shape, flat on top and bottom, out in front of the field of red lights still blinking simultaneously. The round object had several rows of bright white light panels rotating around it. It appeared to be rotating slowly. This was all totally bazaar!
These followed along parallel to us for another 10 miles or so until we came to the canyons of the Cap-rock off the plains where the highway cut into the canyons and blocked the view.
We both think and talk about this almost constantly. It was incredible to see such a thing! We had to tell you about this.
I am an amateur painter and I am attempting to paint the scene. I wont be able to do it justice.

Not sure but I believe that I have been abducted many times. I believe that it started back in the late 1980s. There are several stories from waking in the middle of being taken out of my house by this tall being when I was stationed on Crete, Greece, to several recent ones. The reason I am reaching out now is because of the recent episodes and questions I have. I recently woke up with a round patch, about 1.5 inches in diameter, of hair missing from the left side of my head (above and to the left of my ear) to teeth that I think were pulled and put back. As for the teeth, I just woke up one day and had 2 very loose molars on the right bottom side of my jaw. They did hurt but that only lasted a few days. They are still loose but without pain. In November I awoke in the middle of another episode. I was in a hotel room and woke up hearing chirping sounds going back and forth. I was covered from head to toe in a white sheet and was surrounded in very bright white light. I felt something at the foot end and tried to kick at it as I was very upset. I just got heavier and could no longer move. I felt something near my shoulder at this point. I did try yelling for it to leave me alone. I know I got a few words out but again was only left heavier than before and unable to move or speak. I just kept hearing the chirping going on. I eventually just blacked out. When I woke up in the morning I felt extremely heavy with difficulty moving. I had a very hard time getting out of bed and to the shower. I had to give a speech at a university and as I was being led to the room I had extreme difficulty going up 2 steps. I fell back once and just pushed myself back to move on. At the same time I was in an extreme feeling of paranoia for a few hours. I had to sit outside for a while just to pull myself together. Anybody that knows me knows that I don't fear much of anything. I have been awakened a few times in the middle of something going on. On other occasions I have been aware of something going on but couldn't open my eyes but tried fighting my way out just to be completely unable to move while getting some words out - yelling for my freedom.
I have twice seen the tall thin creature with the large head and small eyes. On one of those occasions I did see several short creatures with the large purple eyes looking at me. The tall one seems to be the abductor. The second time I saw the tall one it threw the sheets off of my feet at the foot of my bed. I remember it lightly slapping my feet. It was slightly hunched over looking at me with the little one scattered on both sides of it. That happened at my apartment in Texas. While in Greece, I don't know if it was returning me or trying to take me but I fought hard holding on to the couch with my rt leg and hand. It had me half way out of the large window that was as wide as I am tall.
I am heavily involved in the spiritual having done several exorcisms. I am a hypnotist. I have 2 degrees (math and biology) and a paper away from my MS in computer science. Tests give me an IQ of 154. I was working for intelligence when I believe it all started. For some reason or another I don't like to sleep at night no matter how tired and will stay up as late as possible. I am not scared to go to sleep just don't seem to want to.
I have many more details to each event but think they would be best spoken if there is any interest in them.
Are these things happening to others?
