It's not quite as easy as just saying what to do and what not to do in every website will benefit differently from different SEO methods. Perhaps the only real search engine optimization rule is: you've got to do it!

Seriously, though, there are some elements of SEO that are absolutely required for the process. One of these key search engine optimization rules is understanding keywords. Keywords are the words and phrases that users on the Internet use to search for the things they want. Optimizing your website for popular keywords is a surefire way of generating more traffic, which could lead to more ads served or more sales for products you're selling.

Another rule of search engine optimization is to build up links that lead to your web site. By linking your own web pages together, or finding ways to have other web sites link to yours, you can greatly increase traffic to your site. This is because Google and other search engines use links to your site as references in other words, they view links as recommendations to visit a site. Because of this, more links will increase your web site's rank in search engine listings.

This is all thanks to a process known as spidering. The way it works is that search engines basically send out automated robots or spiders to comb the Internet for data. When these spiders reach a link, they'll follow it and then continue their search. So, the more links that lead to your websites, the more spiders that will find and index your site, making it more popular on search engine rankings.

Another in the list of important search engine optimization rules is to check your status. It's not enough to simply use SEO methods on your site you've got to make sure they're working. If not, you're just wasting your time and who has time to waste these days? You should check your page rank, and frequently check to ensure the keywords you're focusing on are still relevant.

One tool that can help in this process is known as web analytics. Web analytics programs can give you a wide variety of data that can help you further customize your SEO plan. For instance, web analytics can tell you which keywords are bringing people to your website, how many people they're bringing, and through which search engines. If you sell a product or offer a service to users who sign up, it can also track which parts of your site are most effective at converting visitors to buyers.

Search engine optimization is far more complex that these three basic concepts, but they will provide you with a solid foundation. For more information, there are a number of resources on the web to maximize your SEO. In the mean times, these search engine optimization rules will serve you well.

The Many Forms Of Internet Advertising

If you have a small business that you are actively trying to promote, then there is no doubt that you will be able to capitalize on the many different forms of internet advertising available. These methods include: search engine optimization, pay per click advertising, online newsletters, and website advertising.

Search engine optimization is the process of making your site more easily found by search engines. These search engines send out spiders which scan your page for any key words; they use this information in order to better rank your webpage on their result lists. SEO can be difficult to achieve correctly.

You must maintain a good balance of keywords in the content of your site. Too many of the same word can get you banned; so don't think you can fill up a page with the same key word in order to get a high ranking. Put key words in the title tag of your webpage, in the headings, and in the major paragraphs.

One of the more popular and successful forms of internet advertising are monthly email newsletters. All you need to do is offer to send the visitors to your website a free newsletter each month when they give you their email addresses. This is a great way to market your business because you are reaching the same person repeatedly.

Every time you send out a newsletter you are giving the recipient another chance to take advantage of your services. The best part is that you can eventually get hundreds or thousands of people to sign up for you newsletter. Just make sure that you are sending them a quality email each month that is written professionally. If you are not a writer, then you can hire someone to perform this task for you.

Pay per click ads are offered by search engines such as Google and are a great way to promote your business. The way they work is simple. They will put your ad on the search results that are relevant to your site based on the keywords that you supply them with. Whenever a person clicks on one of your ads, you will have to pay a small fee, usually a few cents to a dollar or so.

The cost depends on the keywords that you use and how high up they show your add. You don't have to worry about being charged too much either; you set your monthly budget and once that runs out your ads will stop being shown for the remainder of the month.

The final method of online advertising that will be discussed is website advertising. Most websites that operate solely by content offer ad space on their sites. There are some sites that offer very inexpensive ad space, while others can only be afforded by large corporations. When advertising on websites, do your best to pick a site that is relevant to the business that you are advertising on it.

If you try out these forms of internet advertising you will be amazed at how well your website performs.

Finding The Truth What Does SEO Stand For

Many people are aware of the term of SEO floating around the Internet, but just what does SEO stand for? The simple answer: it stands for search engine optimization. That's not very helpful though, so let's look at it more in depth. What we can find just from the name is that SEO is a process to optimize for search engines. Well, we all know what search engines are, but what does it mean to optimize for them?

Well, SEO is mainly a marketing technique to make a website more visible to search engines. We're all familiar with what takes place when we search for something on Google or Yahoo! search: the site gives us several pages of results. Did you know that most people only bother clicking on results found on the first page of a search? Sometimes a search can result in 10 or 20 pages of results and the average user often ignores all those extra pages.

Search engine optimization is just a bunch of fancy words really, what does SEO stand for? SEO means more visitors, more traffic, and if you've got a product, more sales. SEO is integral to a good marketing campaign and there's no two ways around it.

So, for people looking to sell something on their web page or even just to attract a bigger audience for their blog or podcast, SEO is very important. The goal is to get a web site to appear on the very first page of any search engineís results when searching for specific words or phrases. These words or phrases are known as keywords and they're your best friends when it comes to search engine optimization.

There are a number of resources you can find on the web that will teach you how to use keywords. For instance, some tools will tell you how often a certain keyword phrase is searched for, and show you other, similar keywords. These other keywords might allow you to expand the focus of your web page to attract more visitors. You can also use this information to target keywords that are less common on the Internet which allows you to corner the market.

Keywords aren't the only search engine optimization tool you can use. Another important aspect of SEO is linking. Search engines basically use links to a website as references, like when an employer calls up past employers to find out how good an applicant is. The more legitimate references or links to a website, the higher that the site will be ranked in the search engines. Creating links between your pages is a great way to enhance SEO.

Keywords and linking is just the tip of the search engine optimization iceberg. There are many more advanced techniques that can be used to bring a site to the top of the search page ranks and keep it there. This is just an introduction, but now you know the answer to the question; what does SEO stand for?

Profit By Affiliate Marketing On The Internet

Almost anyone who's ever looked into starting an Internet or home-based business has heard people talk about making great money while affiliate marketing on the Internet. Many people overlook the idea as just another another get-rich-quick scheme designed to get your money and give you nothing in return. While it's true there are plenty of scams out there, even scams that ask for large amounts of money in exchange for 'million-dollar' tricks of affiliate marketing, there's also a ton of good information that help you make money online with affiliate marketing.

First, you need to understand what affiliating marketing on the Internet is, and what it isn't. It's not like any other kind of business. Affiliate marketing takes away the hassles of running your own store, with products to store and ship, the need to be able to take credit card payments or any type of payment at all, or the need for your own business and merchant account website. You don't even have to have a website when you start out, though top affiliate marketers do use their own websites to entice people to click on links that take them to the merchant's website, where they'll choose products and make payments.

Affiliate marketing on the Internet could be likened to a salesman's job, but with a twist. If you walk into a car dealership, you're approached by a salesman who does everything but rub your forehead in order to convince you to buy a car. With affiliate marketing, you do try to convince people to click a link to take them to a merchant's website, and there is some salesmanship involved if you want to go beyond the very basic marketing that only requires a banner or link available for clicking. But unlike that car salesman, you don't have to approach each individual customer and spend time convincing them how great that new car will be. You create each pitch one time, whether it's a banner you've placed on a website, or a short article you've written to promote the product, and it keeps working for you.

Then, when the potential customer clicks your link, the merchant's website works hard to sell to them. Once they make a purchase after reaching the merchant's website via your link, you're paid a commission on that sale. Affiliate marketing on the Internet sometimes doesn't even require sales. Some programs offer a small commission for each person that clicks through, whether they purchase anything or not, or you're paid a commission for each person who then registers at that site to join a mailing list, for instance, because that's a lead that the merchant can use to make future sales.

By signing up with some merchants and using the links they give you, you can promote their products and make money. By posting ads online, writing articles relevant to the product with links, or promoting them on your own website, you can profit by affiliate marketing on the Internet.

Build Your Business With Niche Affiliate Marketing

If you want to try your hand at affiliate marketing (why not, it's easy!) but the idea of promoting a bunch of different products you have no interest in doesn't hold much appeal, then niche affiliate marketing is probably for you. Many people simply look online at the programs and websites that offer the biggest commission for affiliate marketers, they build websites promoting those programs, or they write ads or articles to do so, and they sign up for several different types of programs. Many of them are programs about how to make money on the Internet, which is one of the hottest types of affiliate marketing programs out there.

But what if you don't care for that scattershot approach of several different types of programs? And what if the idea of getting started in affiliate marketing by promoting programs that teach affiliate marketing or promise to help customers make money online feels strange to you or makes you uncomfortable (particularly if you haven't used the program, and really don't know if it really delivers on its promises)? There is a way to make money with affiliate marketing without making yourself uncomfortable with what you're selling, or having to sell several different types of products: niche affiliate marketing.

What knowledge do you have that other people might want? If you're shaking your head, thinking you couldn't possibly have any valuable knowledge, you're not thinking hard enough. Think of everything you've done successfully or know how to do. Just because these things came easily to you, or you think of them as everyday humdrum things in your own life, doesn't mean that other people won't find it fascinating or helpful. If you have children, that alone is a gold mine of opportunity for affiliate marketing. Just based on your experience with raising a child, you have advice and tips to offer potential parents who are hungry for information about the best way to do things. If you've had pets, the same holds true. If you know how to golf, or spelunk, or catch record-breaking catfish. . . anything you do holds the potential for niche affiliate marketing.

You might be wondering how this leads to niche affiliate marketing. It's simple. Let's say your interest is parenting. Find a parenting and child-related merchant that offers an affiliate program. Once you get that set up, then write an article about parenting. Don't panic, it's not hard! Simply write a short article, about 500 words or the length of this article about something relating to parenting. Possibilities are the steps you took to wean your child from bottles or pacifiers, how you began teaching the child to read, home remedies you used for diaper rash. You don't have to be a writer, you only have to be able to convey that information. Then at the end you put your affiliate link.

The more you write the more people will read and click your link, so the more money you'll earn with niche affiliate marketing.

4 Steps To Generate Leads With A Sequential Autoresponder

As an internet marketer, unless you are dead and buried, you already know how effective a tool a sequential autoresponder can be. However, there is one way to use it that you may not have thought of, and then again you may have and decided against it.

To be straightforward this particular online marketing strategy has been around awhile. But, because it's so simple many folks, like you perhaps, have said it doesn't work, it's worn out, and it is no longer effective. If you have been one of those, you may need to rethink your position on this marketing tactic. Here's why!

Millions of new users come on line each and every day. The primary reason most of them come on line is to learn something new or get information that will help them solve a problem. These "newbieís" to the internet have never been exposed to this marketing tactic. So in today's modern internet marketing vernacular it's "an evergreen marketing tactic". Now let's get on with it.

Step 1: You need to set up another project directory on your Internet site. Come up with a universal password and user name which your present opt-in list folks will use and the new subscribers to your list. Name your new project "My Magic Steps To Astounding Weight Loss ..." or something else which makes them want it. The next step may be the hardest part of the whole sequential autoresponder marketing tatic.

Step 2: Take the time to find some really valuable reports, eBooks, articles, scripts (are good), videos or perhaps software (Of course it must fit your niche market). Upload to your new directory for your subscribers to get hold of. Make sure it's free.

Step 3: Very Important! Prepare a short series of autoresponder messages (3 or 4) to go out to your list. They should create a buzz about what's coming from "My Magic Steps To Astounding Weight Loss ...". If possible each of these messages should have a tidbit of good solid information. Naturally they will be in sequential order with the buzz building to cresando. Space them out over a week. In fact your sequential autoresponder will distribute them in the order you set them up in.

Step 4: Write an intriguing and curiosity arousing conversational "sales page" about "My Magic Steps To Astounding Weight Loss ...î You must include the fact that this information/whatever are free. To make this tactic really work for you set a time limit or the number of people you are going to release this to. Make subscribers feel they are taking part in a very personal and private event.

A word of caution here! But for search engine optimization, the content is the lifeline. So in this direction, you can say if you like to make your website stand out of the crowd, then you have to provide the quality content on your website. So your readers or visitors will enjoy it as well as they will come back again to your website. You should remember that website is the skeleton; visual stuff is the flesh; content is blood and the SEO is the vein. So when you made them into one being, then your presence on the internet will be established. As far as your visitors are concerned, they are like to interact with your virtual entity on the internet. So content works wonderfully in this direction. Actually, the content is the self-inflicting element in any website. As far as the search engine optimization is concerned, the power of the content has a great impact on it. So it can make or break the website accordingly.

Visualisation

For visualizing the website is only possible when you have a lot of quality content and robust SEO technique. So for this reason, you have to synchronize the content with the search engine optimization. So in this direction, you have to use the keyword gracefully in your content, so the SEO can understand it well and it will give your website a good ranking on the first page of the search engine. If you use the keywords more than the prescribed form of the SEO technique, then your website will not be well visualised on the search engine.

Implementation

The implementation of the SEO technique on your website will depend on the content. If your content doesn’t obey the SEO rules accordingly, then the SEO will face difficulty to give your website a boost in the search engine ranking. When the content makes a smooth process of the SEO functions, then you can expect the tremendous uprising at the search engine ranking. Another point you have to remember that the relevancy of the content should be synchronised with the website theme. So you will able to get the maximum benefits from it.

Imagination

Be imaginative. It is a vital quality you should have possessed. Otherwise, it will be very difficult for you to make a successful website with your content and SEO. Your imagination power should be beyond today. You should imagine for tomorrow as well. In this way, you will see the future and the further development of the content and SEO altogether. When you are looking for content development in the content area as well as the SEO arena, then you will able to take the maximum exposure through these elements as well.

Accomplishment

What you have achieved, you will see it through the measuring scale of the website success rate. Actually, you can get the real measurement about the successful accomplishment of your website through the different analytical tools in the internet. So you will imagine the power of the content as well as the necessity of the SEO in the website development as well.

So content is king as it will be staying for tomorrow as it is also staying in today. But the question of the relationship between SEO and content will depend on how they will love each other well for the benefits of the website.

About The Author: Alia is a writer/blogger. Also, search engine optimization could be called as a complicated beast to tame; however, there are many clever tips and tricks, which could help you in benefiting from it. Ranking high in search engines could be carried out by using some smart SEO tips and tricks, which you will find in the following paragraphs. Let’s check them out:

Understanding keywords for maximum SEO

Keywords are among the most vital aspects of search engine optimization. These are words and phrases, which people enter over the search engines as query. There are several tools, which could help you in getting a list of relevant keywords to your niche area, which you need to use in your site or blog for maximum SEO. Once you identify the relevant keywords, you could use them at various places inside your site for better search rankings. This could be carried out by using them in title, along with using them in h1, h2 and h3 tags. Use them wisely and naturally inside your website content in appropriate ratio and at the same avoid using wrong keywords.

Build strong links

The other ways to rank at the top over search engines is to have good links point back to your domain. Having quality links could influence Google and other search engines to take you seriously for better ranks. So, how to build strong links? The best way is to identify authority blogs and sites pertaining to your niche area and try getting links from these places for your blog or site. For instance, if you have a photo printing site, try getting links from bigger blogs and sites of your niche. This way you end up building strong links for better search engine rankings.

Produce high quality content

The recent update from Google called Panda puts more stress over producing high quality content. Since the advent of Panda, thousands of websites lost their search engine rankings that had low quality content. Google is now expecting high quality content in order to rank better in search engine results. In order to produce high quality content, you need to render well written and authority information. The content you publish at your site or blog should be useful and interesting for your readers. Also, while producing content for your site, you need to follow some rules, like it should be not less than 300 words along with having specific keyword ratio to be used wisely and naturally.

Optimize all your images

A majority of website designers use Alt attribute for better accessibility reasons, however, the same could be used to complement your SEO efforts. For this, you need to place keywords in Title and ALT attributes in all your images for effective optimization. Another important tip to consider while working with images is to give proper description to them using proper keywords.

Increase your page loading speed

Increasing your page downloading speed is considered as the new criteria to improve search engine rankings. The quicker the web pages load, the better would be the rankings over Google, as compared to the ones with longer loading time duration.

Final word

There are many other SEO tips and tricks to improve your search engine rankings, however, the above discussed tips in the articles are among the vital ones. All you need to do is to try them with consistency and have patience to see the results. Remember it’s not an overnight phenomenon.

About The Author: Alia is a writer/blogger. Marketers often confuse content marketing with sharing poor quality content in bulk. There is a thin line between intelligent content marketing and SEO article marketing. To differentiate your content marketing efforts from mindless poor quality content sharing on the Internet, there are some things that you must keep in mind.

    Adjust Your Perspective
Yes, when it comes to successful content marketing, your attitude matters. As a content marketer, your purpose is to build a lasting relationship with your readers. Firstly, you need to share quality content with them that can help them in some way. Don’t just assume that what you write and share is what your audience needs. Ask and research. If you use content as a bait to attract readers to something they do not want, you might get an initial traffic but not long lasting loyal subscribers. Your correct attitude towards the readers would make them feel the warmth and help them stay.

    Stay Reader Oriented
It is a common misconception to keep talking of you to create a brand recall value. Brand recall value is created by generating emotional responses in the readers and that can only come with good writing. Focus on their lifestyle, what they must be missing and how a proposed solution can be beneficial for them. Copywriting does not always have to be focused around the brand. No matter what you attempt to sell, customer focus is always beneficial.

Like any other relationship, a professional relationship between a company and its customers also requires good communication especially listening. Do not write generic content showcasing your product that is needed by everyone. Make it unique and let the customer be sure that it is the right product for him. They will place greater trust in you and your brand when they know what they are buying is right for them.

    SEO Dependency
Great content is good and your readers will love you. But how many are there? Successful marketing is a game of numbers and if you don’t have a good number of subscribers, you are surely missing the pinnacle of success. Keyword research is simple yet an essential ingredient of content marketing. Google’s free keyword research tool will be very helpful for an amateur to start keyword analysis.

It is important that readers interested in your content are able to find you through search engines. A huge subscriber base is a must for any marketing success. It is not only the search engines but also humans that are attracted to your content because of the keywords. At every point of time, there are some ‘hot’ topics that get a lot of attention. Try to cash on these topics and include them in your content so that more Internet users are able to find you.

With the above steps in mind, it is possible for almost everyone to reach the epitome of content marketing. There is no rocket science involved. Just some humanness is enough to reach out to others and market your product well.

About the author: Alia Haley is a blogger by profession. They hire people to innovate, to make the company better, stronger, faster — and to roll up their sleeves and implement those ideas. If established businesses want workers to stop acting like little cogs in a big, slow machine, the trick is to stop treating them like cogs:

Hire Entrepreneurs. Startups tend to hire very smart, very enthusiastic people. They don’t necessarily hire the best fit for the current, limited definition of a job. They hire people with the potential to grow, and contribute more. Start looking for those qualities — and be willing to retool job descriptions to attract such people. If you want your new hire to think beyond the ‘In’ and ‘Out’ baskets on the desk she’ll inherit, you’ll have to, as well.

Instill Your Vision. When a startup does mighty things with very lean staffing and operational budgets, it’s often because the singular vision of the founders inspires their staff to new heights. Tell people how what your company does matters, and then tell them how what they do matters to the company’s success. Do this regularly, and leave the door open for two-way communication. Engage your workers, ask them what their vision is, how they see the company’s goals and where they feel they can best contribute.

Expand the Vision. A lot of established companies think of themselves as … established. “This is what we are; we’d just like to do 10% more of it next year.” A startup says, “What we are today isn’t what we’re going to be — we’re building something bigger than this.” Do more than maintain the success you’ve already achieved. Reach for the next plateau, not only in sales or market share, but also in excellence. Refreshing the goals and expanding the vision keeps your team engaged — especially when you’re beyond the point of relying on profit sharing to motivate your employees.

Don’t Fear the #Fail. oDesk CEO Gary Swart likes to say that “experience is what you get what you don’t get what you wanted.” When things don’t go according to plan, startups see opportunity to learn, iterate and improve. Encourage your employees to come up with new ways to serve your clients, enter new markets or improve internal processes. Give them the opportunity and resources to implement these ideas, and if they do their best with an idea you signed off on, don’t punish them if it doesn’t pan out. Congratulate their willingness to take risks, and encourage them to bring you the next idea.

Adjust for Inspiration. Don’t stick with old systems because they’re the systems you know. Hiring smart, enthusiastic people means listening to their ideas and encouraging their enthusiasm. Don’t be afraid to change — job descriptions, titles, department configurations, your online presence, your product lines. Change is essential, so seize an inspired opportunity.

On the whole, startups rely on empowered workers at all levels of the business. Have you ever called a big corporate bank to complain about some two-dollar charge or a late fee, only to be told, “There’s nothing I can do about that”? You don’t hear that at Zappos, the shoe-retailing startup whose customer service representatives are famous for their excellent service. Zappos’ service team is empowered to solve problems, and proud of their ability to keep their customers satisfied — the company’s entire brand is built on it.

You don’t have to install a foosball table in the break room or start an employee book club; making your employees happier comes naturally when you make them feel important, engaged, and invested in the company’s success. The best startups not only know that, they thrive on it.

Why Online Work Makes Every Day Earth Day

Anyone who works online could be the poster child for Earth Day. The green advantages of working at home, for both workers and employers, are astonishing.

The environmental benefits of using public transportation or biking to work are well known as viable alternatives to traditional passenger car commuting. Incredibly, our recent research based on Census Bureau data shows that in 5 of the largest U.S. metro areas, more employees telecommute than travel to work via public transportation, taxi, motorcycle, bike or walking. How’s that for eco-friendly commuting!

Those same online workers are saving their employers about $10,000 a year each, too, thanks to increased productivity, reduced facility costs, lower absenteeism, and reduced turnover. Those aren’t Earth Day benefits, per se, but if companies do more with less, an indirect benefit is less pollution.

Based on all the research we’ve done we estimate that, out of a workforce of 143 million, 5.9 million people consider home their primary place of work, and half of those people are self-employed.

Not everyone can work from home online, of course—bus drivers and baseball players come to mind (yes, a catcher works at home, but that doesn't count, silly). Our research shows that about 65% of jobs in the U.S. are compatible with online work. You wouldn't think that manufacturing, for example, would lend itself to online work, but manufacturers hire exactly the kind of people whose talents are available on Elance, where there are Engineering and Manufacturing professionals in addition to professionals in more traditional online areas like Web Development and Programming, Graphic Design, and Article Writing. And companies in every industry are discovering that using a 'contingent workforce' is a powerful strategy that goes way beyond just controlling their carbon footprint.

Still, not everyone wants to work at home, even if his or her job is compatible. Some parents, for example, prefer commuting to an office because they can talk with big people who use full sentences, and—for the most part—act like adults.

Anyway, with all that in mind, if the employees in the U.S. who want to, and have compatible jobs, worked at home just half the time (the current national average) they would collectively:

Avoid creating about 50 million tons of greenhouse gases every year, an impact similar to taking 10 million cars off the road.
Save more energy than all the renewable U.S. energy sources combined.
Reduce our dependence on Persian Gulf oil imports by 46%.

But companies benefit too, as we've said. Hiring freelancers and offering exempt and non-exempt employees flexible work options, including home-based work, offers real bottom line savings and environmental benefits. For example, Sun Microsystems (now part of Oracle) measured a savings of $3 million a year in reduced power consumption and thus pollution by giving qualified employees home-based work options.

If you’d like to see the sort of impact teleworking can have on employees, employers, and communities, you can calculate your Earth Day savings yourself using our free Telework Savings Calculator. Based on public and private data sources, you can pull statistics about the number of telecommuters in your city, county, and metro-area, and determine savings in time, gas, traffic injuries and much more.

Reference:
www.elance.com

The Importance of Improving Your Skills

One of the great things about working for yourself as a contractor is having more control over the direction of your career. However when you are meeting tight project deadlines while simultaneously interviewing for the next job, it’s easy to overlook the bigger picture. It’s vital to set aside some time and start thinking about how you can forward your career by adding new skills, qualifications and experiences to your resume.
Here are eight reasons why it’s important to improve your skills:

1. You’re the driver!

It’s worth remembering you are your own mentor, HR department and boss. Nobody else is going to be looking after your contractor career development except you, so you need to be the instigator of change. Rather than resting on your laurels, make sure you are moving forward to ensure you don’t get stuck in a rut.

2. Win new work.

One of the main reasons for adding to your skill set is to be able to win new types of work, which may be more interesting or lucrative. It may be as simple as completing one of the oDesk skill tests in order to seal the deal, or you may want to branch out into something completely new–which involves retraining and new education courses.

3. Increase your hourly rate.

Job satisfaction is important, but so is getting paid. If that summer vacation still looks out of reach, you may need to invest in some training or certifications to ensure you end up with a better rate of pay.

4. Play catch-up and stay knowledgeable.

Many professions require you to keep on top of new developments, which can move very fast. So if there is a new software release, or a dynamic new design trend, you may need to have that knowledge under your belt so you’re better equipped to compete on your next job interview.

5. Stand out from the crowd by combining skills.

Over the next few years the world of contract work is undoubtedly going to get more competitive. You many need something extra to really stand out. Sometimes unusual combinations of skills can result in you having a unique selling point. Are you a programmer who also knows about accessibility? Are you a graphic designer who can also write great copy? Merge your talent and your passions to find creative combinations that make you more marketable.

6. Highlight your talent.

If you know that you have a talent — such as writing — but it is rather unproven, and you don’t have enough experience in that area to get hired, then having a formal qualification may help you get your toe in the door on relevant projects.

7. Impress employers by demonstrating your character.

Employers love self-improvement. They greatly respect individuals who are moving forward and developing themselves, and if you can demonstrate this — particularly at the interview stage — then they are likely to consider you the type of person they would want to work with.

8. Reap the personal rewards

The most important part of learning a new skill or undergoing training is the sense of achievement you will feel when you move forward. Moreover, the whole process of learning is rewarding and interesting, and you can gain insights into your own capabilities and character. You may also meet friends and valuable business contacts on the way. You really can’t lose when educating yourself, improving your skill set and advancing your own contract career.

Reference:
1) www.odesk.com

Freelance Career Advice from Paris Hilton

Sometimes career advice is lurking just around the most unlikely corner. For example, we recently discovered that Paris Hilton had a few things to say about online freelancing and contract work.
With nearly 3.5 million Twitter followers, Paris’ morsels of wisdom are obviously in demand. Here’s our take on some of her most notable quoteables:

PARIS SAYS: “Trust me, people act differently toward you when you’ve got jewelry on your head.”

What It Means: You might be thinking having “jewelry on your head” means wearing a tiara. However, in this case having “jewelry on your head” is, we’re pretty certain, just a fancy socialite euphemism for “looking professional.” If your online profile/portfolio picture makes you look professional, then online contacts will treat you like a professional. (Trust us.)

PARIS SAYS: “You can see all these girls leaving a party at the end of the night and they look terrible … This is a huge mistake. People remember how you look when you leave as much as they remember how you look when you arrived.”

What It Means: Paris is trying to tell you that “how you look” (i.e., your job performance and your professional behavior) at the end of a contract should be as important to you as how you looked when you were trying to land the job in the first place — look good on your way in and on your way out. Contract employers will remember how you performed the tasks more than how you presented in the interview, and your feedback will be based on performance throughout. (If you’ve already blown it, take this advice.)

PARIS SAYS: “I only want friends who are there for me like I’m there for them. Otherwise, it’s too painful.”

What It Means: Paris wouldn’t waste her time with employers who aren’t just as professional and courteous as she is. Otherwise, it’s too painful. Dump that client! (Or, as we suggest, try to give them constructive feedback – perhaps some guidance on the best ways to work with you will change how they do business for the better.)

PARIS SAYS: “The best thing about owning your own nightclub is that everything’s free and you can tell the DJ to play whatever you want.”

What It Means: We’re fairly sure that “owning your own nightclub” is Paris-speak for having your own business. (Fancy socialite euphemisms strike again!) Because the best thing about contract work is that you work for yourself. Your business belongs to you. And just like Paris asking that DJ to play her favorite song, you can ask your employers to pay you whatever you want. (Within reason, of course. And, PS, nothing is free.)

PARIS SAYS: “I’m an actress, a brand, a business woman. I’m all kinds of stuff.”

What It Means: Paris wants you to think of yourself as a real professional. A brand. A business person. You are the whole package! Believe in your abilities and be your own PR team, because — just like Paris — you are all kinds of stuff! (And here are the ways to communicate that to potential employers.)

And there you have it: Great freelancing advice from Paris Hilton. Whose unlikely advice has impacted your life? What was the best career advice you’ve received? Something came up for another employer that’s more important.” Now, we understand juggling other people’s deadlines is a reality of freelance work, but there is a way to finesses the matter and avoid offending with your words. Your employer must never feel that their deadlines are lower priority than someone else’s. Choose your words wisely to manage both your deadlines and your working relationships.

6. “Can you write me another check? I lost the first one.” If you have automatic payments set up, like on oDesk, this will never come up. But if you’re dealing with paper invoices and checks, things like a misplaced check happen sometimes. If you lose a check you’ll need to say something to your employer about it… but make sure to temper your request with an understanding of their payment cycle and patience for the time it will take them to reissue you payment.

5. “I love my line of work so much, I’d do it for free.” Errr, if that’s true, they’ll probably take you up on that at some point. Even if you adore what you do, saying you’d do it for free belittles the value of your work. Loving what you do means you are worth every penny because you’re passionate, but be sure to show your passion without hinting that you’d be willing to give away your work.

4. “I’m too hungover to work today.” Okay. It sounds far-fetched. But people really say such things when they get a bit too comfortable in their working relationships. Be careful when offering excuses–they will be used to measure your character and your ability to manage both your work and your personal life. Stay professional and don’t give your employer reason to think less of you.

3. “I’m thinking of moving into another line of work.” These types of statements are written in stone. While you may be kicking the tires on a career change, to an employer it sounds like you’re one foot out the door already. Employers put in this uncomfortable spot will likely replace you, thinking that it’s a better move than waiting around for you to replace them.

2. “Gotta go, my lawyer is on the other line. I’m suing my former employer.” There may be all kinds of legitimate reasons to sue a former employer, and you might have a very good one. But avoid having to tell your current employer these details or you might as well write “litigation risk” across your forehead. Those words don’t exactly spell out “trust me”.

And the number one thing you should never say to your employer …

1. “I’m in the bathroom right now.” Just because you may use your cellphone, your smartphone or your laptop in the lavatory, doesn’t mean your employer (or really anyone else) needs to know that you do. Please, don’t ever say these words — aloud, via text message or IM, or in email. These words are the definition of “too much information.”

Reference:
1) www.odesk.com

About Online Freelance Jobs

We’re not trying to beat a dead horse here, honestly. Freelance, contract and online jobs are for real. And if you have the right technology skills, well, you can piecemeal steady and consistent work in hot areas following the buying patterns of consumers.

The economy has been somewhat stagnant over the past few months, with unemployment numbers ticking up to 9.8 percent, and technology jobs inching up only slightly in November but nowhere near the peak of hiring in 2007. Despite that, consumers are gobbling up iPhones, Androids, iPad tablets and other sleek, lightweight devices for easy mobility while purchasing inexpensive but useful applications intended for these devices.

The shift from building static Websites with mobile versions to building lightweight but rich mobile applications for smartphones like the iPhone and Android devices, and tablets like the iPad and others is driving a significant need for mobile application developers. Couple that with company reluctance on increasing major headcount, keeping costs contained between benefits and office space, and you have the perfect storm for freelance work.

According to Elance, a freelance-based job board, technology workers with mobile application development skills have seen a 98 percent increase in job demand in 2010. Other hot technology skills in the freelance market include search engine marketing, Google’s application engine, HTML5 and affiliate marketing while BlackBerry skills and DHTML have seen job demand declines.

“More businesses integrated online workers into their staffing models and more professionals opted to work online instead of onsite, marking a fundamental shift in labor practices in 2010,” said Fabio Rosati, CEO of Elance in a statement.

Overall, Elance experienced more than 375,000 job postings this year, and has posted more than one million jobs since 2006. Online freelancers are earning more than $100 million annually from postings on Elance. Similar to services offered by Elance, ODesk has also seen tremendous growth in online freelance work with more than 620,000 online job opportunities since 2009. Much of its growth is in the same areas of technology as Elance including Android application development and Facebook application work--with many of the workers coming from the Philippines, India and the United States.

The list of skills in demand from a technology perspective is staggering. On a list of the 50 top categories of work, less than 15 percent did not have a technology component. The Internet has exploded opportunities in technical work for individuals and small businesses.

The commoditization of technology skills, however, has some consequences: Rates for much of the technical work found on these sites have been driven downward. When comparing hourlyOdesk rates between 2009 and 2010, the average rate dropped from $10 to $9 an hour. Some of the highest rates include networking, information systems, software and Web development which go for an average of $13 to $15 an hour.

The most telling benefit of these rate drops is the effect on the cost of doing business for small businesses and Websites. As one featured employer, Jonathan Swanson, COO of Thumbtack.com, boasts on the Odesk site where the 2010 data is posted:

“When you can cut your labor costs by 90 percent, a lot of things become possible.”

Reference:http://www.eweek.com

Finding Online Jobs To Make Money

Finding online jobs is not an easy feat if you don’t know where to look. But it’s not all about just knowing where to find freelance job marketplaces. The right combination of luck, bidding prowess and the ability to deliver plays a major role in landing freelance gigs.

I’ve tried quite a few of the most popular freelance job matching services such as GetaFreelancer.com, RentaCoder.com and Scriptlance.com but I’ve won no projects using them. Either that I’m no good in bidding or the competition was just too stiff or a combination of both.

But just recently, I’ve learned about oDesk and tried my luck. After two applications, I was able to get a data entry project! I thought that the stars have finally granted my wish and let me win one project from a freelance project bidding site.

However, while working on the data entry project, I was alerted by the service buyer that to get paid, whenever I work on any project I need to be logged in to a certain oDesk application called oDesk team.

I looked up the said online app and I’ve found out that this program includes a feature that I’m not so comfy with, whenever I’m logged in, the app will take screenshots of my monitor every few minutes or so. Called Screensnaps, these screenshots will be seen by the service buyer to verify work time and to collaborate more easily with the service provider.

I’m still in the process of completing the project and I’ve just started to use oDesk team. Although I can always delete anytime those screenshots that I don’t want my client to see, I’m still trying to get the hang of it and all, you know… I still get startled a bit whenever I see the small screenshot prompt which signals that my monitor is about to get captured for the whole world to see! Ok just my clients.

Now how about you? Would you mind being required to use those software programs that take screenshots of your monitor every now and then for monitoring purposes? Why and why not?

Reference:
1)http://www.justmakemoneyonline.com

Earn Money Online in Different Ways

There are many ways to make online money. If you search the web to know different ways to earn, you will find a lot of websites telling 101 easy and free ways. I am writing this article not to tell the easiest but some effective and efficient ways to earn. Before starting I concede to readers that I don't know any way that could make one rich over a night. Rather I do believe, to become hero from zero one needs to work hard with full of energy, patience and enthusiasm. Let's have a bird view of this post. Here I have written about PPC, Affiliate Program, Freelancing very shortly. On each making money way , I have tried to focus on the following questions:
1)how much can be earned? 2)how to start to earn? 3)time to spend each day? etc...
1)PPC Program: Pay Per Click(PPC) is an advertising program in which advertisers pay a fixed amount every time when one of the ads is clicked. You will find out some websites those give free ads to place it on your blog or website. Google Adsense, Chitika and Bidvertiser are the leading websites among them. Cost Per Click (CPC) amount varies from one to another. Usually Adsense or Chitika pay $0.11 for each click. Sometimes Adsense pays $10 for per click. CPC or CPM depends on many related issues which are not concerned in this post. Anyway, if you get thousands of visitors for your site than this way may help you to earn online hundreds of money each month.
2)Affiliate Program: Affiliate Marketing is a program in which business pay a fixed amount or a percentage for each visitor or customer bought an item of their products or you refer a new user/customer to sign up on their websites. For example Amazon offers affiliate program and it's referral rate is 4%. If visitor buys a product of $100 from your referral link, Amazon will pay you $4. Chitika rewards 10% of what of what your referred publisher earns and pay $25 when your advertiser referral spends $100 for add campaign. To earn from affiliating program you need a blog or website, then find out the websites which offers affiliate program and before starting it I recommend you to read their program terms and conditions.
3)Freelancing: Sell your expertise on marketplace.
