How to Build Enduring Friendships: The Fruit of Gentleness

Seventh in Paul's list of the Fruits of the Spirit is gentleness. Gentleness is not weakness. Rather it is the power of my potential under God's control. Gentle people have their personality under God's control; they have an unselfish outlook toward others; they bring their words under God's control; they submit their expectations to God's control; and they give responses that are under God’s control.

How to Build Enduring Friendships: The Fruit of Goodness

Brother Tim teaches that the sixth fruit of the Spirit, "goodness," is the daily choice to integrate God's values into our daily actions. We build goodness into our lives by speaking truthfully, admitting it when we are wrong, being genuine, and committing ourselves, in advance, to goodness.

How to Build Enduring Friendships: The Fruit of Kindness

This message deals with the fifth fruit of the Spirit: kindness. Kindness is love in action. We can show kindness to others because we have received God's kindness to us- and in some of the same ways He shows His kindness to us. He understands our weaknesses, He always tells the truth; He forgives our sin, and He affirms our worth.

How to Build Enduring Friendships: The Fruit of Peace

This sermon considers how we can become a peacemaker in our various relationships, not by avoiding problems and keeping the peace at all costs, but rather by deliberately seeking peace through face-to-face meetings, putting ourselves in the other person's shoes, addressing issues positively, working on issues submissively, and pursuing reconciliation, not resolution.

Simplifying Our Lives: Waging War On Busyness

This third and final sermon in the series offers some Bible-based advice on how to wage war on busyness. These suggestions would also make great New Year resolutions: Learn to say "no;" stop deriving your value from busyness; make room for silence; leave some margin as your daily schedule; get rid of things; and acknowledge when enough is enough.

Simplifying Our Lives: Why Do I Say "Yes" To So Many Things?

This begins a short series about simplifying our lives. We live in a fast-paced, complicated world that places demands us that, if we try to respond to all of them, will diminish the quality of life for us. This sermon deals with our tendency, for what are often unhealthy reasons, to say "yes" to every request or demand made of our time, energy and attention.

A Christmas Mission: The Sun Of Righteousness Will Rise

As we approach Christmas Day, this sermon looks back at Malachi's prophecy of the coming of Messiah, all the details of which are revealed in the witnesses of Luke, Matthew and John. Malachi's great expectations of the coming Lord were confirmed in the birth of Jesus who was a rising sun, shining beams of righteousness, healing the nations, and bringing freedom and joy to those who believe.

A Christmas Mission: We Have Come To Worship Him

Based on Matthew's familiar account of the visit of the Magi, this sermon has some lessons for us today. We should recognize that Jesus is the Messiah and deserves to be honored as such. He is to be worshiped by all the nations of the world. God controls the universe to make His Son known and worshiped. Jesus is troubling to people who do not want to worship Him, and He brings out opposition to those who do. Finally, Jesus means joyfully ascribing authority and honor to Christ with sacrificial gifts.

A Christmas Mission: Breaking Nets, Sinking Boats, Saving People

Brother Tim uses the story of Jesus calling Peter, James and John to be "fishers of men" to illustrate that by Jesus' power and authority, multitudes of people will be "caught" for God's eternal purposes by the followers of Jesus who present the Word of God, obey the commands of Jesus, humble themselves, and treasure Christ above all.

Amazed By Grace: The Grace That Grows Us

God's grace not only saves it, it also grows in the Christian life. There is a process by which this growth takes place: Brother Tim teaches from Ephesians 4 that we must put off the old, put on the new, and be made new in our minds-and that all of this comes by the grace of God. Our part is to trust and obey.

Amazed By Grace: The Grace That Transforms

Many Christians live today as if they had not been freed from the slavery of sin. This teaching from Romans 6 reassures us that although we were born in bondage to sin, Jesus has set us free. To live in freedom from the control of sin, we must know and believe what Jesus did for us on the cross, be assured from Scripture that we are free from sin's grip, and offer our bodies as instruments of righteousness.

Amazed By Grace: The Grace That Restores Us When We Sin

Many Christians may be confused by the concept of "falling from grace," believing that they lose their salvation when the have major sin in their lives or even just drift away from God. This message explores some common causes for drifting away from the Lord, and affirms the truth that God does not reject us when we sin. Rather, He wants to restore a close and effective fellowship.

Amazed By Grace: The Grace That Extends Forgiveness To Others

God didn't intend for us only to receive grace; but He wants us to receive His grace and then pass it on to others by forgiving them as Christ has forgiven us. The Bible teaches that forgiveness to others is not conditional, it is not minimizing the seriousness of the offence, it is not resuming a relationship without change, it is not forgetting what happened, and it is not my right when I wasn't the one that was hurt. Forgiveness IS remembering how much I have been forgiven, relinquishing my right to get even, and responding to evil with good. It must be repeated as long as necessary.

Amazed By Grace: The Grace That Frees Us From Perfectionism

Christians are often burdened by the guilt brought on by perfectionism- trying to prove our worth by being perfect in every respect. Perfectionism destroys initiative and relationships and deprives us of joy in the Christian life. Some suggestions, based on Scripture: Remind myself, I am not perfect; dwell in God's unconditional love; release imperfections to God; live in Faith, not fear; and exchange my perfectionism for God's Peace.

Amazed By Grace: The Grace That Sustains

In this message, Brother Tim teaches from Scripture that this amazing grace sustains us when we are tempted, when we are tired, and when we are troubled. To draw on this sustaining grace we must call out to God, fill our minds with God's Word, receive support from God's people and hold on to God's promises.

Amazed By Grace: The Grace That Frees From Guilt

Last week's message dealt with what grace is- today we deal with what grace does: it frees us from guilt. The sermon contrasts the ineffective ways we try to deal with our own guilt with the way God deals with our guilt and what we must do to access grace: confess our sins; trust God's character; and accept God's forgiveness.

Amazed By Grace: The Grace That Saves

As we begin a study in small groups of the book by David Jeremiah, Captured by Grace, the pastor begins a series of teachings on Grace. He begins with the question: What is grace? After citing several definitions that had been given in the past, he submits an answer outlined in the acrostic:

G: God's gift to me

R: Received by faith

A: Available to everyone

C: Comes through Christ

E: Extended into eternity
