There is one main improvement:

• The Google reCAPTCHA version 2 is replaced by version 3. As version 2, it only works if your server is capable of contacting the Google servers. Unfortunately on some servers this feature is disabled. Also, you have to register your site with Google and enter two keys, supplied by Google, into your Family Tree PHP dashboard (Dashboard > Settings). If you already used version 2, you have to get new keys in order to use version 3.
• Optimization for PHP 8.0 and 8.1.

Bug fixes:

• Some minor bug fixes.

Further, all 3rd party libraries have been updated to their latest versions.

Because of the removal of Securimage (in version 1.5), you might want to delete the ‘/plugins/securimage’ folder before uploading the new files, in order to get rid of many no longer used files (if you did not already do so for version 1.5).

• The Securimage captcha module has been removed, since it was very outdated and did a very poor job in blocking spam. Instead support is now added for Google reCAPTCHA (version 2), which seem to do this job almost perfectly so far. However, it only works if your server is capable of contacting the Google servers. Bug fixes since version 1.4a (beta):

• The stats page was broken.
• Deleting a tree did not work.
• The users list was not displayed in the admin section.

How to update:

Users of the beta version 1.4(a) do only have to upload the files of this version. Users of verison 1.3 or earlier have to do a full update, following the update instructions. Because of the 3rd party libraries updates, you might want to delete the ‘/plugins’ folder before uploading the new files, in order to get rid of many no longer used files.

• Using MySql 8+ resulted in errors.
• Generating a robots.txt file did not work properly when using https. (Note: robot.txt files need to be regenerated if generated while using https.)
• Some minor bugs.

Because many files have changed, it is best to just upload all files in this package. If you already have version 1.4, you do not need to run the update script.

Bug fixes since version 1.2g (beta):

• In some cases under PHP7 the Smarty template engine did not work, resulting in white screens.

How to update:

Users of version 1.2g or earlier have to do a full update, following the update instructions.

• Many servers now use PHP 7.
• Many sites are using https instead of http.

Family Tree PHP could not handle https and PHP 7 often resulted in login problems. For some users I have fixed this via private contact. But now a new corrected version (1.2g) is available for download. Registered users will get the new download link today.

If you have version 1.2, you only have to upload the changed files (but you can of course upload all files if you find that easier to do):

• /core/login.php
• /includes/index.php

If you still have an older version than 1.2(a/b/c/d/e/f) and want to update, you will have to do a full update.

Note that the version number of your installation will still say “1.2”, even if you do a full update to version 1.2g.

IMPORTANT:
If you change your site from http to https, you also need to change two database fields. Via phpMyAdmin, go to the table ‘ftphp__cf’ and look for the fields ‘CF_BASE’ and ‘CF_BASE_PATH’. There change ‘http’ into ‘https’.
