Pedigree (document)

A new template package is available for download: Document.

• When adding a multimedia record or a note, there was no proper linking to persons.
• Captcha images did not work on some servers.
• Contact and comment forms did ask for captcha code even when logged in.
• Event pages did not show the links to the linked person(s) and the breadcrumb link of event pages was wrong.
• When a person, event, note or source had many multimedia items linked to it, these could break the page layout.
• There were some wrong language codes on the edit blog category page.

How to update:

• Upload all files of the new version to your server.
• Open in your browser the file ‘update.php’.
• Follow the instructions.

If you use other template sets than the ‘Default’ template set, you also have to update these. Otherwise your site won’t work properly anymore. If you have made your own template files, you will have to edit these too. (Tip: use WinMerge to compare your own template files with the new files from the set you started with.)

• A blog module is added, so you can incorporate a weblog into your family tree website without the need of any additional software.
• The header and footer menus and the boxes in the sidebar can be customized.
• The admin panel is replaced by a dashboard. This dashboard is available to all users. Only the available functions vary according to user type and user rights. For now normal users can only edit and delete their own account and their own comments. In the future, new functions will come available for your users, as well as the possibility to give your users the right to edit your data.
• A new error reporting module is added. PHP and MySql error messages are now stored in the database. When 10 messages or more are stored, you get an email, which you can forward to me. In this way I can fast and easily fix any bugs or problems that might occur. (It is also possible to let these emails be send directly to me.)
• The admin can invite new users.
• Many usability improvements and additional customization options have been implemented (too much to list them all here.)
• Gedcom import is improved for Gedcoms generated by Aldfaer (ASSO tag) and Family Historian (OBJE tag).

Bug fixes:

• Links to linked record in comment email were not complete (domain was missing).
• Links in text editor did not show right color in Firefox.
• When the text editor was hidden, the unedited content of the editor was submitted instead of the edited content of the normal textarea.
• When the text editor was hidden, images could not be inserted.
• Empty lines with CONT where ignored on gedcom import.
• The backup module was unusable when search engine friendly urls were used.
• New user groups could not be created.
• Default media levels for gedcom import could not be set via settings.
• In theory, users could approve their own comments via editcomment.

• The ancestors report does not show any ancestors.
• The edit text page shows some unwanted output at the top of the page.
• When you hide the WYSIWYG text editor, the edited content of the normal textarea is not submitted, but the unedited content of the hidden editor is submitted instead.

The last bug is not in Family Tree PHP but in the 3rd party plugin TinyMCE. Untill they fix this bug, always show the editor again before you submit a form that has an editor by default. In this way the normal textarea and the editor have the same edited content.

The other 2 bugs are fixed in the new corrected version (0.3.8a), which is now available for download.

If you have version 0.3.8, you only have to upload the files “core/ancestors.php” and “core/edittext.php”. These are the only changed files. You don’t have to run “update.php”.

If you still have an older version than 0.3.8 and want to update, you will have to do a full update.

Note that the version number of your installation will still say “0.3.8″, even if you do a full update to version 0.3.8a.

• Improved image insert function for the text editor.
• The text editor can be used to create tables.
• After a new page is added, a redirect occurs to the edit page form.
• Better error messaging for gedcom import and database errors.
• Return-path is set for emails, which makes it more likely that emails will reach the recipient instead of being treated as spam.
• A link to the linked record is included in the notification email when a new comment is made.
• Better import of Aldfaer generated gedcoms.
• When there is only 1 search result, the user is immediately redirected to this result.
• HTML codes for the header or footer of each page can be added via settings, which makes it easy to add a code for Google Analytics or StatCounter or another statistics program.

Bug fixes:

• Sometimes users got logged out randomly.
• Email texts contained html entities.
• A language/editable text combination was not shown on the text edit page when there was no database entry for it.
• The email with the new password after the 3rd failed login attempt was not send.
• Dates that did not fully comply to the gedcom standard were broken.
