Our favorite thing this week came in the unusual form of a candidate’s response to the TNT’s invitation for an interview. ~~Crazy~~ ~~Eccentric~~ Nonconformist political candidates get our attention, particularly when they have a way with words, and Stephan Brodhead (running for Norm Dicks’ seat, if you hadn’t heard of him) certainly fits that bill.

While the idea of newspaper endorsements of candidates doesn’t necessarily sit easy with us, we’re still in awe of the response Brodhead came up with. Thanks to the TNT for providing our favorite thing this week. And if you really want...

Tacoma Rail Mountain Division May See Some Action

Tacoma Rail’s Mountain Division has come up in recent months as a money-losing operation. An item on the June 6 City Council meeting agenda could begin to reverse that situation by a wee bit.

Authorizing the execution of a grant agreement with the State of Washington, Governor’s Strategic Reserve Fund, in the amount of $100,000, to install railroad track in Frederickson on the Tacoma Rail Mountain Division to provide rail service to Carlisle Construction Materials.

The deal would work like this: The state gives Tacoma $100,000, Tacoma Rail commits $25,000 of in kind contributions of switch materials, and Randles Sand...

How Will the Prairie Line Trail Cross 21st Street?

Here’s something we thought a few of you might find interesting, both because it has to do with the Prairie Line Trail, and we get to use the phrase “road diet,” which makes any story better.

As conversations continue over the design of the ~~Hood Corridor~~ Prairie Line Trail through the UW Tacoma campus, the City and the University are looking at the next little piece of the trail: the crossing with 21st Street.

Stadium Way Open House

You’re invited to join City representatives and Stadium Way project contractor Ceccanti, Inc. on June 6 for a pre-construction open house to discuss plans for the project. Work is planned to take place in two phases, scheduled to start the week of June 11, and continue into summer 2013.

Phase I will include work around Stadium High School and on Commerce Street. During this phase, North 1st Street and North ‘E’ Street will be closed to traffic and Commerce Street will have only one southbound lane open. Link Light Rail service and access to the Commerce...

LeMay Grand Opening Tickets On Sale Now (And mostly Sold Out)

In case you missed it, presale tickets to the grand opening events for LeMay, America’s Car Museum are now available for purchase online.

Unfortunately, like this year’s Zoobilee, tickets are sold out to the dinner events (Great Gatsby, Sock Hop, and Racers Start Your Engines), but it would appear that you can still buy tickets to beat the lines when the museum officially throws open its doors to the public on June 2.

Those June 1 dinner and dancing events sound like quite the shindig(s). Who was lucky enough to get a ticket to those June 1 events?...
