A Ritual of Faith is my final and main photo portfolio for my Diploma in Photojournalism course at the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University. Taken during the Semana Santa or Holy Week in Infanta, Quezon, it tells of a unique self mortification ritual found only in this place.

A slideshow of the work can be found at my Pagtu-o portfolio subsite and this is the accompanying downloadable photo e-book. It has five more images than the one found at the slideshow.

Binary Silver the wordpress theme is now available as a free download without restrictions, meaning, no subscription or payment is required. The theme was used before this site was redesigned and reformatted from a photoblog to the current form.

As a photoblog, I designed this theme to have a simple layout and, most importantly, make the photo stand out. There’s lots of white space and well appointed text blocks.

I did away with the sidebar and, instead, utilized a three-column widgetized footer. This is ideal for images with 600 pixels, as the longest side. Comments and trackbacks are separated for a cleaner look. It can also be used as a regular blog. It does not require any special plugin to work properly.

The theme is ad ready. Ad units of 468X60 and 300X250 can be integrated easily into the different parts.

This theme, however, is offered without support and any questions or problems encountered may not be provided any help.

It’s now available! Bloody Mary is an innovative three-column and ad friendly Wordpress theme that is so atypical of the usual blogs’s look and function. It is perfect for certain kinds of content, in this example, a movie reviews blog, that shows a new way of presenting individual posts.

Instead of a top-down, content loaded index page, you are presented with a clean, grid like layout that essentially shows what the posts are via thumbnails without giving out too much information. The widest column is reserved for the content while the middle column, a different color from the rest, acts as a divider and is intended for, say categories. The rightmost column are for other uses like tag clouds, recent comments, etc.

The number of posts you want to show can easily be configured and if one uses ads, popular sizes like 468×60, 125×125 and 300×250 can be accommodated.

This theme works with Wordpress 2.x.x including 2.7.1. It is widget ready and doesn’t require any specific plugins to function. However, as this uses custom fields, you need to configure some aspects for it to properly work.

The main feature is the gallery-like index or front page. The clickable thumbnail images (130×192px –> this is fixed) are generated automatically but the path of the image must be input at the specific custom field. However, GD Library must be installed in your host’s server for this to work. For cleaner look, trackbacks and comments are separated.

Langyaw March 2009 issue

Hot on the heels of my blogpost at langyaw.com, I am making available this downloadable PDF for readers of my various blogs. Entitled 10 Things to Do this Summer, the list highlights worthwhile activities that one can possibly embark on during this, for the Philippines at least, vacation time. It’s all free and no subscription is needed.

Each suggested activity is accompanied with beautiful images from places that I have personally gone to. The 25 photos that you see inside are from my extensive stock collection covering five years of traveling within the Philippines and abroad.

Is this an e-magazine? Hmmm, judge it for yourself but I would want to consider it as an idea and work in progress. Suffice to say, I want to try making this from time to time to highlight specific themes or posts as well.
