Time for a travel kettle?

February may not be the time of year when many people think they’ll need an electric travel kettle – myself included. But, it being half term and looking for something fun to do, today I drove to our local beach with kids, dog, picnic and thermos for a long walk and a bit of (very) fresh air. After a long walk, chasing the waves, writing names in the sand and collecting pebbles we were all chilled to the bone and in need of a hot drink. We got back to the car for our picnic but the water in the thermos wasn’t by this time very hot. It’s a small thing but it got me thinking that I should have just bought my travel kettle and we’d have had hot water in an instant for any drink we wanted. Of course there’s normally always a café - which would have been great - but where we live the beach café’s closed at this time of year. So for our next winter beach trip I’ll be taking my travel kettle so we can have hot drinks wherever and whenever we want them.

Electric Kettle Upgrades

Although electric kettle hasn’t been updated for a number of weeks, we have been working hard behind the scenes to integrate a number of new retailers and expand our product range.

With the first phase of the upgrade complete, we welcome 6 new retailers to electric kettle, including such retail giants as Argos and Dixons. In the coming weeks we will be adding a number of additional electric kettles to the website and hopefully a couple of further retailers.

Once the upgrades are complete, electric kettle will be the ultimate one-stop-shop for putting a bit of glamour in your kitchen.

Choosing your kettle

In today’s market place there is so much choice it can be difficult to know where to start. Long gone are the days of all kettles being boring stainless steel items hidden in the corner. Modern kettles range from the classic stove top items to incredibly stylish and even "intelligent" electric kettles.

What does your kitchen look like?

The first and probably most important question to ask yourself when deciding on a new kettle is, what style am I looking for? The driving factor behind this that you won’t want to put a modern glowing electric kettle in the middle of a farmhouse kitchen complete with Aga. Similarly an old-fashioned stove kettle sat atop a modern induction hob looks equally out of place.

What colours do you have in your kitchen?

Think about colour in combination with the style of kitchen and property, for example a cream coloured farmhouse kitchen would probably look best with a cream traditional style kettle, whereas in a modern property a bright red gloss kettle might be just what is called for to make the most of the space.

Be Bold

A bright kettle can make a huge difference to your kitchen, turning a once dark corner into a talking point amongst your friends.

Above all

Choose a kettle you like, whether it’s a red kettle, a stove kettle or just a nice chrome kettle; buy something that you’re happy to use. After all you’re going to be using it so many times a day that your decision will annoy you if you don’t get it right.

Limescale and your Electric Kettle

If you live in certain parts of the UK, you will know what a problem limescale can be, turning a brand new kettle into white fury mess in a matter of weeks.

Limescale is a particular problem with the older style electric kettles, which have an exposed element. A great number of modern electric kettles have a concealed element; this takes the form of a solid internal base in the kettle that is the heating element. As this is a polished flat surface it is more difficult for the limescale to stick to and as a consequence although limescale does build up, it very quickly detaches from the kettle.

In Norfolk where the water is particularly hard, an old style element would need to be de-scaled every couple of months, whereas with a concealed element its just a case of giving the kettle a good rinse out every month or so.

The difference is significant; you don’t tend to notice as your kettle takes longer and longer to boil due to the limescale build up. Thankfully the concealed element all but removes this issue.

The concealed element is becoming the cordless kettle of yesteryear. Concealed element kettles are becoming the norm, rather than the exception. That being said, if you live in a hard water area and you’re looking for an electric kettle, I would definitely recommend you go for one with a concealed element.

Put a little glamour in your kitchen

Whether you are making a cup of tea having just woken up, heating some water for cooking or perhaps even steaming open an envelope, a kettle is undeniably at the centre of your day.

Many of us will use a kettle 5 or more times a day and yet we rarely pay much attention to it. However choosing the right kettle can make a real feature within your home; providing a splash of colour with a Red Kettle or perhaps you want a more traditional look with a Cream Kettle.

Rather than trying to hide your existing old kettle, why not make a bold statement with a designer kettle. When placed in the middle of a worktop it can help can show off your kitchen and provide a talking point.

Isn’t it time you brightened up your kitchen with a new electric kettle.

Electric Kettles

Welcome to Electric Kettles and the inaugural post! Electric Kettle has been in development for the last three weeks to make this the most useful site for finding that elusive kettle.

We have already assembled a collection of 30 kettles from 11 retailers for you to choose from. But it doesn’t stop here; all of the products have been manually matched so that you benefit from full price comparison. By matching manually you can be certain the kettles you are comparing are the same product.

There will be a number of further retailers joining electric kettle, including some well known high street names (watch this space). Of course as we bring on additional retailers we will be adding further products.

Over the next few weeks you will see the number of products significantly increase in addition to the large number of features we will be adding to make it easier for you to find the kettle that is just right.
