wtf? hehe. Right :D Just thought I might get your attention more easily that way ;-) Almost everybody is talking about SEO & Social Media, Social Search and Twitter Lists. (Actually so did I, at the ambuzzador blog – in German: ‘Social Search – ein Schritt vorwärts‘). But most people simply explain what’s it about, and not what they are expacting to happen. So that’s what I try now. Let’s have a quick thought about probable future changes.

As already mentioned, lots of people kept talking about it.. so just a brief overview from my site. Social Search: Google realesed the Social Search feature about a week ago. Only for users of google.com and only under “beta”. That means that you need to enable it in the ‘Experimental Lab‘ section. If you wanna know how and why, just have a quick look at this videos. If you’ve already seen them, feel free to skip to the next paragraph :)

Alright. Now we know what’s it about. Let’s keep that in mind. And let’s keep in mind that Google announced a  deal with Twitter (Bing already had one!). In your minds? Alright. Let’s move on.

A few days ago, Twitter released it’s List feature. Now you can add people on Twitter to lists you define. For example: You create a list called “SEO” and add the user @sayfun and others you follow to this list. Other followers are able to see your (public) lists and see which SEOs you follow.

So that’s cool, right? That’s gonna add more value to Twitter…you get listed and therefore be found way more easy (you even can search google for twitter lists). A lot of people already think about substituting followfriday with followlistfriday (I don’t think so since I am a fan of REASONS! If you recommend someone at followfriday, please tell me WHY – otherwise I will ignore it. Do you jump from the next bridge just because I tell you to? right..). Obviously there’s one negative thing left – like on followfriday – all those buddies will recommend and list each other over and over…but that’s the way it is – we all have the chance to ignore them…

So back to business. Where will it take us?

• Social Media will become more important. Even in Search Engines. Finally!
• It’s about connections Baby – and connections of connections of connections…
• SEOs will head more into Social Media
• rule the SERPs! – it’s not about being on number 1 in Google – it’s about dominating the first page. It’s about owning the top 10!

So. What do you think? You’re d’accord with this? Or is Social Search just…well..another fancy feature but not interesting at all?

I started this post about 2 weeks ago and thought I finish it when coming back from Tenerife. But now, within 24 hours, a German online marketing maganzine published something about this topic and Aaron Wall did as well. Furthermore a German SEO Blog just started the SEO Votings 2009 and asked for the “SEO Word of the year”. So let’s get this one out! You might guess already, it’s all about Social Media. Social Media as part of SEO or as add on or whatever one might call it. Measurement and so on!

Adzine, the German Online Markting Magazine, published an interview with a Online Marketing Agency. Bottom line: social media makes about 10% of everyday business. More an more clients want social media but underestimate the effort (let’s just make a quick fanpage or add some friends…). And, also important, social media is NOT only facebook, bebo, VZ or those big networks! A, in my oppinion, funny statement: There is NO social media strategy! Bad wording, I’d say :-) But, obviously, it was thought to explain that the agency has no 08/15 strategy for everyone – it’s all tailor made – and that makes sense :-) Next cool statement: ‘NOT every company website needs a corporate blog’ – word! Aaaand, last thing from this article: CPC campaigns within social networks are considered to be a part of social media work!

Aaron Wall is looking on Social Media from the measurement point of view. Do we need seperate measurements? Nope! There are already measurement methods for online marketing disciplines – why create new ones? Some nice ideas over there (I really recommend having a look at this article) like:

1. Increased Revenue

This measurement is straightforward. What was the level of business the client was doing before the social media campaign, and what is the level they are doing afterwards? Has it dropped, stayed the same, or risen?

2. Competitive Advantage

Has the client gained competitive advantage?

Do a before/after comparison against competitors. Is the client doing better in Compete/Alexa/etc than their competitors after they ran the social media campaign?

Have the competitors run social media campaigns? Can you do a similar before/after comparison on their success, or lack thereof?

3. Increased Visitor Numbers

Are there more visitors now than there were before the campaign started? Break the visitors down by channel using referral data. Who are they? Where are they from? Are they the right demographic?

4. Reach/Spreading The Word

Perhaps the most difficult aspect to measure. Research companies, like Neilsen, use Buzz Metrics and Blog Pulse to measure how many people are talking about a brand or company.

Similarly, Google Trends can be used to pinpoint spikes in attention across the net. Is your message/brand mentioned more often after the campaign? Are there more mentions across blogs, Twitter, Facebook, mainstream media?

5. Search Activity

Do more people search on a clients brand after the social media campaign? Do they use queries relating to the clients message, products or services?

6. Primary Market Research

Big companies tend to do this more so than smaller companies. Run field studies, focus groups, and interviews to determine the level of brand awareness.

7. Links

Has the client received more links? This is one of the huge value propositions of social media, especially when combined with SEO. Social media can be such a powerful link building method, second to none.

Furthermore Aaron asks why a Social Media Marketer should do all this and, of course, answers it already: Companies are going to spend more and more money on this – and they want to know what for… (funny: the video in Aaron’s post).

Last thing I mentioned before. SEO Voting 2009 - Word of the year within SEO: Multiple choice answers: “Twitter” and “Social Media”…not much more to say :)

So looks like Social Media has finally arrived in SEO’s minds - now it’s time to change concepts (as google might eleminate it’s page rank social media might become more important quite soon – new ways of increasing traffic will be needed – i’m already looking forward for new spam methods :-/ ).

Zweitens: Die Crew an Bord. Cooles outfit! (Jeans, Bluse, Mütze – nicht so overdressed wie die anderen) + die attraktivsten Stewardessen bislang

Drittens: Essen. Frühstück. Ausbaufähig.

Viertens: Securityhinweise. Wie immer mit Film. Das lustige: Niki Lauda selbst spricht den Text. Klingt lustig

Fünftens: Speibsackerl. Lustige Beschreibung. Da wird einem fast schon freiweillig übel

It’s almost 2010, a year that was in science fiction often referred to as “far far away” or “the time when humans live in outer space”. When seeing those old movies or readig old books most of us smile – but honestly…it might be better for us to start thinking of living in outter space if we continue living like we do now.

It’s almot 2010 and we still force the issues of climate change!

Honestly, it kinda sucks pretty much. You know. We think of ourselves to be the best, most intelligent and whatever else species in the universe and we are not able to stop wasting our own planet? That’s the same as:

I know there are news all the time saying “the earth became warmer bei 2°C” and we think “yeah, awesome. it’s getting warmer” or at least “2°C that’s almost nothing”. But that’s not true! Climate Change is happening right now! Just think about the Tsunami in Thailand during X-Mas 2004, Hurricane Katrina in the States or the incredible thunder-storms that hit the Philippines 3 weeks ago. Or the Tsunami hitting OZ, or…

So are you still thinking there is no need for a change? Every human being able to think must realize, it is now and it is us to be responsible, to make that change.

But enough complaining for now. By now we all know what time it is, right? So let’s get up, stand up…and act! So what can we do? First thing: What we do today: Giving a platform to one of the most vital issues right now! Obviously we shouldn’t  only write on specific days about climate change and global warming. But it’s a fact that, if shown to often, people tend to ignore problems. So task #1: Do not let people forget about this!

Butterfly Effect! A butterflie’s flap can trigger off a hurricane (I’m not a english native, so sorry for translating that so poorly). So small changes might have big consequences, right? Ok. So let’s start with the easiest or, quite often, the hardest part: With yourself! Think about your dialy tasks. Is it necessary to take the car? Wouldn’t it be ok to go there by bike, train or bus? Small steps, small changes – but changes! -> task #2: start with yourself!

Living on my own my own my own…über Cut’N Move (nanananananananana baby give it up, give it up, baby give it uuuup) bis hin zu Culture Beat (I know what I want and I want it now…) und Meat Loaf. Alles super Songs (mal abgesehen von den Hosen – das konnte ich damals gar nicht ab ;-) ).

Jedenfalls war das mein Einstieg in die CD-Sucht. So gings los mit der coolen, silbern-glitzerenden, runden Scheibe (mal kurz den jungen Leuten erklären, wie so eine CD aussah). Es war toll, ich hab das Tag und Nacht gehört und konnte binnen kurzester Zeit sämtliche Texte mitsingen. Das hält bis heute ;-) Beweise? There you go…

Doch natürlich gabs nicht nur musikalische Highlights. Zwischen 1993 und 1998 sorgte, zumindest für mich, eine Comedy-Show für Furore. Und als ich mich gerade mit Freunden über damals unterhalten haben, kamen wir synchron darauf, dass wir das allesamt extrem lustig fanden. RTL Samstag Nacht. (Warum laufen da keine Wiederholungen mehr??). Hier einfach ein paar Ausschnitte von ausgewählten Higlights. Kentucky Schreit Ficken, 2 Stühle – Eine Meinung, Käsefondue – ich lache noch immer Tränen. Gute alte Zeit :-)

Schön wars :-) Beim nächsten Flashback klär ich dann die Frage, welche CD ich mir tatsächlich als erstes selbst gekauft habe – und verliere wahrscheinlich ohne Ende Follower bzw. Leser ;-) Wer Tipps hat, was das damals war, kann gerne schon kommentieren :-)

That’s the way it is. Right now I’m really waiting for a chance to experience this feeling once more :-)

First of all I have to say, that I’m not a groupie. I don’t like everything they do. Of course not! I don’t like that one of the guys (not quite sure whether Larry or Sergey) simply rent an island in order to celebrate his wedding (or birthday or whatever). But a) that’s not directly connected to what google does as a service and b) what the heck would you do, if you’d earn more money within a minute than you can ever spend (maybe I’m slightly exaggerating)?

One thing, despite all those points mentioned before, is quite obvious: Then internet wouldn’t be what it is right now without google!

1. Google is free

and this should actually be enough =)

2. Gmail

Googlemail. The perect way to manage your emails via web. The cool thing: It is finally out of beta (it was in beta for decades!) and improves by the time. It is possible to embed a lot of google’s services into your gmail account.

3. Google Docs

Googles free “office” package. Documents. Great stuff in my oppinion. Sure most office users might say “office has more option”. – might be true in some way. but hey…what did you pay for office again? Ah…yeah…there you go :P And besides that, for those SEO freaks hanging around: Google Spreadsheet is awesome for tracking. Just go google for it :)

4. Google Earth

Simply a great way to discover all places (almost) around the globe and, combined with some of google’s eastereggs, also pretty funny (e.g. the milk truck!)

5. Google Maps

Saved so many times when heading through vienna. Thank you so much google! :D

6. Google Sky

One of the apps no one really needs, but likes =) turn it on (on your mobile) and see the contellations. Niceeee!

7. Chrome Browser

When I have to use Windows, the browser of my choice. Why? ‘Cause its fast fast fast!

8. Google Books

Great way to read through a lot, i mean really a lot, of books! Was one of my main libaries while writing my thesis.

9. Google Labs

The place where new apps and services are being tested. Google Labs is always worth a visit. So make sure to check it regularly :)

10. Google synchronisation

Since I am a proud android user I really love the easy synchronisation. Contacts, Calendar, Mails. perfect.

11. Google is free!
