In the previous article of this series, “Wireless Pentesting Part 3 – Common Wireless Attacks”, we discussed various scenarios to give you a better grasp of how wireless networks and clients can be attacked. The real possibility of a compromise of your systems is the reason we need to test for vulnerabilities and see if they can be exploited during a wireless pentest. Successful exploitation of wireless vulnerabilities is just the beginning of what a cybercriminal could do or the sensitive information they could access.

In this fourth and final part of the series, we are going to discuss how to conduct a wireless network pentest. This article will bring together what has been discussed up to this point. Once you are finished with this series, you should have a better idea on how to conduct wireless pentests and be prepared to do a pentest after some practice in a lab setting.

The world has gone mobile crazy. It seems as though no one can live without their smartphone, and Android dominates the scene with over 85% of the smartphone market. And of course there’s also tablets and Chromebooks not mention home appliances and many other IoT devices utilizing the OS. With that kind of reach into the world population, it’s an obvious platform to attack for cyber criminals. And with Work From Home (WFH) as well as remote classrooms, all organizations need to be prepared. So where do you gain the knowledge and then practice what you’ve learned in a safe environment? We’re here today to share exactly that with InjuredAndroid and its creator, Kyle Benac, in this webinar that was presented on Thurs Sept 24, 2020.

With the growing need for security professionals, a huge number of people are flooding the job market from a diverse range of experience and backgrounds. And let’s be honest… Why wouldn’t they? Hacking is just plain fun! What could be better than doing this for a living? However, many don’t have the technical background, resources or the extra time to setup their own learning environment. That’s where TryHackMe comes into play for all skill levels to learn with virtual, gamified, real-world cyber security challenges. There’s another common phrase that you don’t know what you don’t know. With InfoSec maturing as an industry, there’s numerous disciplines each with a vast amount of skills to learn. TryHackMe can also let you dip a toe in the water to see what is right for you, what grabs your attention and is worthy of the most precious commodity in the world… your time! Founders, Ben Spring and Ashu Savani, offer up the inspiration behind their company, some live demos of "rooms" and what the platform can do to advance your career in this webinar that was presented on Thurs Aug 27, 2020.

Blockchain? I'm not sure what it is, but I know that bitcoin used to be worthless and now is worth a lot. HODL! (hold on for dear life) Bitcoin can be forked, so blockchain is a scam. Bitcoin uses blockchain technology, that means it is backed by math and code! These are just some of the things CITATION T_H20 \l 1033 (T_HQ, 2020) you can expect to hear if you go down the rabbit hole of blockchain. But what is it really? And what is BaaS?

They really liked you, but I had no idea that you’ve just been promoted. The policy is that if you’ve been promoted, you have to wait a full year before you can change departments. I’m so sorry. If I knew, I wouldn’t have put you through all of this.”

My heart sank. Are you freaking serious, I thought. “But this wasn’t a position promotion. It was just a salary increase and a title change. Nothing about my role has changed. Why would I need to work a full year doing the same exact thing before I can move into security?”

“I’m sorry, that’s the policy. You’re welcome to take it up with HR…” And just like that, I was back at square one. Dejected, I closed the messaging window, locked my computer and went on “break” to cool down. I was livid. I was disappointed. I was dumbfounded. But mostly? I was lost. For four years, I had tried (and failed...miserably) to get an entry-level security job. Up until this point, I hadn’t even gotten close.

OK… so your infrastructure is pretty much locked down, your SOC is solid, you do regular pentests and even leveled up your organization’s capabilities to include threat hunting, RE and malware analysis.
We’ve all seen deepfakes on the Interwebs… from funny videos to politics and, of course, from the impetus behind many technical innovations, an insatiable appetite for porn. At her talk at RSAC 2020, Alyssa Miller, Application Security Advocate at Snyk, took a unique view at the effect that deepfakes might have on many more aspects of life beyond just mischief or cyber security and into the threats that deepfakes pose to businesses and global markets. Since her stage time was limited, she didn’t get a chance to showcase details about the technology used by the wizards of data to pull off such magical feats. Well… Now she does! And, in true EH-Net fashion, I also wanted to make sure that we covered some practical aspects on how all of this can affect your InfoSec career. If it seems like a lot, it is. But she was gracious in trying to tackle it all in this FREE EH-Net Live! webinar that was presented on Tues March 31, 2020.

It’s on every Windows machine (and now some Linux machines as well), has capabilities to interact with almost every service on every machine on the network, and it’s a command line utility. For the same exact reasons, PowerShell has also become a favorite method of attackers interacting with a victim machine. Because of this, organizations have gotten wise to this attack vector and have put measures in place to mitigate it’s use. But there’s another way! Many don’t know of another built-in Windows utility that actually pre-dates PowerShell and can also help them in their <del>hacking</del> pentesting engagements. That tool is Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). This tutorial will be a small introduction to not only understand the usage of WMI to enumerate information from local and remote machines, but we'll also show you how to start and kill processes! So let’s jump into WMI 101 for pentesters.

In the art of binary exploitation, there is one ominous “hacker” term you will hear quite often, and that is shellcode. What is shellcode? How do exploit developers create it and how do ethical hackers use it in their pentests, for research or even in CTF competitions? These questions and others will be addressed by our guest, John Hammond, a cybersecurity practitioner and online training personality. Together we’ll do our best to show you how to use shellcode against vulnerable programs in both Linux and Windows, explore how to generate shellcode in Python, and eventually get to the hacker holy grail… an interactive shell on the host machine within the organization that we’ll be pretending to pentest. All this and more in this FREE EH-Net Live! webinar that was presented on Wed Jan 29, 2020.

May I have your attention, please. *Ahem* Allow me to introduce myself and this new series of articles for The Ethical Hacker Network. My name is Stephanie, better known as Steph or InfoSteph in the community. I have been working as a security professional for the past year and a half, but I have been in the security industry for 3 and a half years. I've been in tech for 6.5 years. In that time, I held two different security positions, but both were corporate security roles with a lot of responsibility and steep learning curves. It has been a wild ride, one with failures and errors galore. However, I wouldn't change my past for anything. As for my future… spoiler alert… I want to be a CISO, and I have a plan to get there. But before I get into the weeds of all of that, it’s only right that we start from the beginning.
