Dell officially launches Adamo premium notebooks

After months of teasers and leaks the Dell Adamo is officially released. At just .65″ Adamo is the worlds thinnest notebook and gives competition to Voodoo Envy and Macbook Air who compete in the same segment. Though the Adamo weights a little more than both these with a one-piece aluminum chassis.

Dell also offers a variety of customized Adamo accessories to its customers (ranging from portable HDD to Bags). Currently available in two colours (white and black), Adamo costs $1999 upwards.

Philips goes touchscreen with Xenium X810

While the recent flood of Xenium handsets aren't apt to hit American shores anytime soon, we may actually hop a flight to toy with the Xenium X810. Unlike most of its siblings, this here device is actually intriguing, boasting a 400 x 240 resolution touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel camera, FM radio, 45MB of built-in memory, a microSDHC card slot, Bluetooth, quad-band GSM connectivity and a USB port. As with all Xeniums, this one also goes for days and days without a recharge; in fact, it should last up to a solid month in standby mode. So, has anyone else wondered why no other major cellphone maker is utilizing these miracle-working batteries?

Samsung builds world’s largest mobile

Samsung has set a new world record by making the worlds largest working mobile. Samsung and Cricket (provider of unlimited wireless service) are promoting Samsung’s messenger phone & the launch of Cricket service in Chicago.

The phone is 15 ft x 13ft x 3ft in dimension. It is placed in Pioneer Court in downtown Chicago.

HP Pavilion dv6t laptop

HP just dished out a quiet upgrade to its dv7t gaming laptop last month, and it now looks like it's done the same with its slightly more modest Pavilion dv6t, which gets some sprucing up inside and out. That includes your choice of 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 or 1GB HD 4650 graphics, which have edged out the previous NVIDIA options, although the rest of the specs seem to have remained largely untouched, including the usual range of Core 2 Duo processors, up to 8GB of RAM, a max 500GB hard drive, and an unfortunately lackluster 1366 x 768 resolution on that 16-inch display. You can also now get the laptop in your choice of Espresso Black or Moonlight White color schemes, although there seems to be a $25 premium over the $679.99 base price for the latter option

Nokia 6700 Classic Phone:preview

The 6700 continues the metallic trend with a “full metal keymat” and brings some big guns - namely, a 5 megapixel camera, A-GPS, and 3G - to the midrange table.

Let’s start with some pricing. The 6300 retailed for 250 euros ($345 USD at the time). The 6700 will retail for 235 euros ($300 USD). That’s pretty reasonable for what you get: a fairly thin (11 mm) candy bar with a respectable set of features.

Along the same lines, connectivity is also quite respectable. The 6700 Classic is a quad-band (850/900/1800/1900) phone with WCDMA 900/1900/2100 support.

The camera is indeed a 5 megapixel shooter, which has come a long way from the measly 2 megapixel pea-shooter that was the 6300. There’s an LED flash and autofocus, as well as VGA video recording @ 15 frames per second. I would’ve liked to see a lens cover, but that might be asking a bit much. The 6700 Classic can also support microSD cards up to 8 gigabytes large.

The battery’s a mere 960 mAh (BL-6Q), but it still manages to provide up to 4 hours of talk time with 3G.

Since Nokia is all about the GPS these days, the 6700 Classic includes assisted GPS with the Nokia Maps software and a 30-day free trial to boot.

And finally, the miscellaneous features: UNC (uplink noise cancellation), which reduces background noise. From what I can tell, this is the first Nokia phone to use the technology, which it seems was developed by everyone’s favorite graphing calculator-maker Texas Instruments. Nokia also saw fit to throw in an accelerometer along with the tap-to-silence option - a pretty odd addition considering there’s almost zero practical use for either.

Expect the Nokia 6700 Classic some time in the second quarter of 2009. Maybe around the time we start seeing the N97.

Nokia 6303 classic Phone:preview

It has 7 hours of battery life, stainless steel design, 3.2 megapixel camera, 2.2″ true color screen, 3.5mm audio jack. Not bad for an S40.

The camera has a dual LED flash, and allows MPEG-4 VGA video recording @ 15 frames per second.

Now let’s talk about the negatives. The most glaring one is the lack of quad-band support - the 6303 only supports 900/1800/1900, which pretty much leaves the USA out in the cold. There’s no 3G, and the amount of internal memory is miniscule (17 megabytes tiny). Thank goodness there’s a microSD slot. Nokia Maps also comes preinstalled, but the phone does not have a GPS or A-GPS.

This is all due to the fact that the Nokia 6303 will be retailing for the price of 135 euros, which is practically peanuts (ok, still $174). Unsubsidized of course. Either way, expect it some time in the second quarter of 2009, as Nokia gears up for the launch of the N97.

Nokia 5630 XpressMusic Phone:preview

The 5630 is a quad-band + 3G (WCDMA 2100/900) candy bar that’s super thin @ 12mm, and runs the Symbian OS. That in itself is a huge bonus, as most of the phones in this price range are S40 “dumbphones”. I’ve lost track of which S60 version we’re up to, but there’s definitely some noticeable differences in the interface - one being the addition of a scrollable quick contacts bar, which stores 20 people (names and images). Looks cool.

What’s interesting: Say and Play, a new feature to hit Nokia phones that allows you to say the name of an artist or song and have it play.

Even though it’s a music-centric phone, there’s no stereo speakers, at least as far as I can tell. But you do get a 3.5mm stereo jack as a consolation prize. And a 4 gigabyte card in the box, with support for 16 GB microSDs. And some dedicated side buttons for when “Say and Play” isn’t good enough. (aside: how come you can’t use voice commands to go to the next track?)

The camera is 3.2 megapixels, and comes with a dual-LED flash, a secondary VGA camera, some junky digital zoom and photo sharing via Ovi Share and Flickr.

As for other notable features, the 5630 does have WLAN/wi-fi, 7 hour talk time, and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP/AVRCP. Expect the candy bar to come out sometime in the second quarter of 2009, along with everything else Nokia’s been throwing out. Price? A nice 199 euros ($256 USD). Not bad!

Nokia E75 and E55 Phones:preview

E75 and E55, two very similar looking Eseries handsets with a big emphasis on messaging. One has a half-keyboard (Blackberry style I suppose), while the other has a four-row slide-out QWERTY.

The E75 is the latter, and basically it’s a longer, thicker E66. That is, an E66 with a horizontal sliding QWERTY keyboard. The good news is, at 14.4 mm, it’s still pretty thin even with the keyboard.

Other than the QWERTY, there isn’t a whole lot that makes the E75 unique. It has the standard Eseries feature set (S60, quad-band, 3G, 3.2 megapixel camera, email, A2DP, WLAN, A-GPS, etc), and the few deviations that I can see are the 3.5 mm stereo jack, microUSB 2.0 (allows USB charging), and lower battery life (5.4 hours on GSM, 4.2 on WCDMA). Also, the E75 is a heavy beast: it weighs 139 grams.

At 98 grams, the E55 weighs 30% less than the E75. It’s also ridiculously thin: 9.9 mm thin, to be exact. This is because the E55 is your standard candy bar - no slide-out keyboard here! Instead, Nokia has opted to put a half-QWERTY on the keypad, Blackberry-style. Same features as the E75, with a much better battery (BP-4L, 1500 mAh) that provides up to 8 hours of talk time on GSM. Nice.

One improvement coming to both phones is a better predictive text “engine.” Or maybe I should say, there actually is a predictive text engine now. T9 definitely needs an update.

The Nokia E75 is coming sometime this quarter, while the E55 is slated for release in Q2. No prices yet

Nokia 6720 Classic Phone:coming soon

Nokia 6720 Classic boast active noise cancellation, which improves the quality of voice by cutting down on external ambient sounds. Other features include up to 20 days of standby time, high speed uplink and downlink Internet access and a TV-out connection for sharing images and video. The Nokia 6720 classic is expected to begin shipping in the second quarter of 2009 at an estimated retail price of 245 EUR before taxes and subsidies.

Nokia 8208 Phone:preview

8208’s main trick is the N95/N96/N86-like dual-slide, with three dedicated music keys. And on a related note, there’s also a 3.5 mm stereo jack, support for 16 GB microSD cards, and enough juice to last for 20 hours of listening pleasure. Not too shabby, but overall battery life is a bit weak: the 8208 gets only up to 4 hours of talk time. (860 mAh BL-4C) And another thing - the phone supports the Bluetooth 2.0 spec (with EDR), but unfortunately not A2DP.

The camera is 3 megapixels, the new average, with flash and video recording thrown in (and 6X digital zoom if you must know).

Other than the dual-slide, the only real notable feature is the 8208’s support for 3G EVDO.

Expect the Nokia 8208 some time in the first quarter of 2009

Nokia's N86 makes its 8 megapixel debut

The dual-slider (keypad on one end, camera and playback controls on the other) naturally centers on its 8 megapixel camera, which includes a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, AutoFocus, a mechanical shutter and a dual-LED flash, but there's plenty of other N-series goodies like 8GB of storage, a 2.6-inch OLED screen, TV-out and a microSD slot. Nokia Maps, Ovi integration and all those other goodies are onboard -- though the new email capabilities of its E-series brethren seem absent. The phone is due in Europe in Q2 2009 for around 375 Euro before taxes and subsidies

Gresso Skeleton Gold Phone is very beautiful, very transparent

Gresso's Skeleton Gold Phone is definitely interesting, most notably the "polished 42k sapphire glass" see-thru back. While, essentially a twin to the Gresso Sol, it eschews wood for titanium, ceramic, 18K Gold, steel, leather, and baby seal eyelash shavings. Under the hood it 's a fairly vanilla tri-band GSM / GPRS (really, only GPRS) Windows Mobile 6 handset with 64MB of memory, 2GB of external storage, and Bluetooth. If you're in the mood to cha-ching your way into Gresso's world, you'd better act fast as this limited run only reaches 50 devices at a price of about $4400 each.

Samsung's dual-SIM C5212: when two numbers are important

Featuring dual-SIM slots -- also apparently has a button to choose which to use for data, calling, and so on -- a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, 64MB of internal memory expandable to 8GB, and dual-band GSM. So, yeah, no awards for innovation here, but knowing Samsung, it'll likely be a workhorse and at only $194 we suppose that's a fair shake.
