The ‘cunning’ Fairer Sex

The phrase fairer sex must have been coined by some novice who probably never understood the intricacies of the modern world. Now calling the fairer sex ‘cunning’ might have consequences, considering the fact that majority of the readers of my blog are girls & the fact that I still don’t have a girl-friend.

But I guess, I will boast my ego by acting gutsy & brag just one more time, the title of my blog (read-the iconoclast)& bring certain facts(read-not generalizations) in front of my readers.

With cunning, I mean clever & yes I also mean deceitful. But here, cunning signifies ‘crafty’. The fairer sex knows the art of manipulating the macho sex & this has been continuing for ages.
(Notice that I use Present perfect continuous tense.)

The ironical thing is that we are just not ready to admit it. Obviously, one reason is our obsession with looks which continually makes us believe:
‘What are little girls made up of?
Sugar, spice and all things nice’

Amongst other reasons, well, I will revert back to the word crafty.Yes; they subtly craft the whole issue to make you believe that the matter is plain & practical. And because we already have given them the Godly status, we are forced to concede to their viewpoint. In the whole game, they have once again made a ‘popput’ out of men (Read-Boys, they still treat you like that, don’t they).

Now, one of my friend says:
“A girl can make a boy do anything’
I reply:
‘Yes, almost anything’.

He has handled variety when it comes to the fairer sex.
And I, well, I have observed & analyzed variety.
And guess what, so far-so good.

The day men start using their brains before believing women blindly, we would have a peaceful world. Go down the history lane, & two epics come to mind; ‘Mahabharata’ and ‘Ramayana’.
What was the cause???...
And now I will get straight into your face:
How many times have you fought with your friends over a girl….
& when was the last time when your boss scolded you over confidential information leaked, courtesy the gorgeous girl in your Bay.

The fairer sex is made that way & the macho sex can’t live without them. AND if you, the boys, have the right to flirt, then they, the girls, have the right to manipulate.

So, here's the solution:
I’m a hard-core believer of street-smart ideas.
Since, we can’t get around them or through them, let’s negotiate with them.

-They are just girls, don’t give them the divine status.
-Nowhere is it written that beautiful girls are simple, honest and kind. Stop
assuming it.
-Girls are complex yet their behavioral pattern is predictable.So,use your head or else consult someone who has handled variety.
-And please, for heavens sake, stop fighting with other people over girls. It shall land you nowhere.
-Lastly, read the above rules atleast twice every month.We, the boys, tend to forget them, everytime we look at something close to 36-24-36.

After reading the above, sentiments are bound to get hurt, I know.But, India is a democracy. They taught me, you have the right to your opinion. Never mind, that we still keep coming on to streets over petty religious issues & show our liberalism by banning books and issuing fatwas.

The future will be less tense if girls are analyzed on the basis of past observations, which suddenly reminds me that tomorrow morning at 7,I have to teach tenses & it's already ten past two, so I better doze off.

A Rack full of Unread Books

Our Batch has crossed the final frontier with loads of Panache. The Final exams of the final semester went away smoothly and those in the Campus Connect program have cleared that too with considerable intelligence. Now, we are all sitting in our homes, lazying away the time or looking for work among the various jobs possibly available to us, from Call Centres to Coaching and even Lectureship with various colleges. However, looking back at the immense amount of time we gave to our College Life (no wonder it's called Life!) One can't help but wonder what possibilities we left uncovered, what paths we did not take. Shahid Kapoor says in his latest movie 'Kaminey' that it is not the paths that we take that cause our downfall, it is the paths we do not take. I wonder how many of us are feeling the same right now. How many of us, sitting at home are thinking, Yaar, Kash uss Trip pe gae hote ya vo file khud bnai hoti, ya phir, kudh thoda aur pdha hota!

There is an immense amount of energy in every person and unless we give form to that creativity, it is going waste. So if today you feel that there is nothing interesting happening to your Life, then Make it Happen! There is no one who is going to come and tell you that there's a lot you can do, that truth is for yourself to discover! You have a whole lot of time on your hands and it's Never too late to do that one thing you've been wanting to do since a long time, even if it's just a very long walk!

Another important idea is: How many of us are meeting our friends anymore? It's very easy to pretend that you are busy and finally your parents are getting time to spend with you. But for those fleeting moments, there are also some people whom you may never see again. How about catching up with old friends, How about getting up one day and planning a reunion one last time before the Forces of Life scatter us away into different directions around the globe??

It must never happen that later on in Life We regret Not doing something more than regretting Doing it. It must never happen that we look at our Life and it looks like a rack full of Beautiful, precious but Unread Books...

In Retrospect

The place where we have spent our 4 years, which unites us all together ..our own CCET ...memories which we will never ever forget,FriEnDs whom we will always cherish..those BuNks..CR certified or otherwise ...those FiGhTs .., those teachers,many incidents,photo sessions, .. the moment we recall them brings smile on our face..i miss u all :)

People, it's not been much time since we've broken away from our College and yet, it seems like an era has gone by... Many of us have moved on to better places, for example, Navdeep is in Delhi pursuing his dreams, Sarabjit has joined CCET as a Lecturer... Swati and Sakshi have found a place in IIM-Indore while Abhishek Dhir is locking heads with brainiacs in BITS-Pilani...

Why not put All our Status Updates right here, simply reply as to where you are and what are you doing right now...

Of course, for many of us the dream has not started yet (i.e. the Infoscions), yet we can at least reply what we are doing and where we are...

A Walk to Remember...

A WALK TO REMEMBER

Walking besides the meadows lush green,
I see a girl wearing a suit that is green,
With a hassling face, she suddenly exclaims:
“I lost my way & my bus
Is waiting somewhere down the street”

At once with her, I start to tread the path,
Having a feeling of an unusual qualm.

Inspite of stilettos, she strolls along,
Oh, What a pretty lass !!
I exclaim !! and walk along.
Her anklet produces an uncanny sound,
The stories behind which are deep and profound.

When she finally moves her mouth to speak,
I feel the blood-rush to my feet.
The words of ‘English’ spontaneously come out,
‘Convent educated’ for sure !!
And I continue to mock her some more!!

“Ahem !! Ahem !!”, she says
“Mayhem !! Mayhem !!”, I say….

The pampered girl slows her pace,
Flaunting the sapphire at my face,
Her candour begins to gild my den !!
An innocent ‘boy’ begins to
Love a girl there and then !!

Judiciously realizing the right street,
Coming as a harbinger of joy in the scorching heat.
With a coquettish smile,
She finally alluded,
The only thing that I so dreaded.

I get down on my knees,
And I hold her left-hand with my right.
I implore, I beg & I go to every extreme,
Please, don’t go; please don’t go,
I silently scream…….

I promise, to keep you happy & smiling
Now and Forever……..

Both her hands reach my shoulder,
As she brings me up to my feet.
She hurls her hand within my hair,
Smiles slyly
And walks away……..

Her name was Zoe,
And Zoe means ‘life’
And yes indeed !! she gave me life,
So what, if for some moments

At times, I wish
If I will ever meet her again.
If she will embrace me in her arms,
And cajole me like a kid.

Simultaneously my hand,
Reaches the eyelids,
And I wipe the tear,
That would have trickled down the cheek.

I try to smile,
While I tread back the same path.
Hearing the rhapsodic music,
I see the coming wistful dawn.

Now, when I look back, I realize
That yes indeed, it was
A Walk…

The Victory of the Geek

Finally, today on the 3rd of April, 2009, our juniors gave us the farewell party. Having partied earlier just for fun, we had not expected such a beautiful affair, because apart from the usual ramp walks and dance masti, there were the added elements of the Titling Ceremony which although not entirely correct for everybody, was a fun thing to do...

And then there was the other thing; the crowning of Mr. and Ms. CCET. Needless to say, this is a much anticipated event although the outcome seems a bit obvious at first look. But here lies the twist in the tail. The chosen few came not as a surprise but more like a pleasant shock:

Mr. CCET Contenders:

Karan Kaul (as expected)

Ashutosh (as expected)

Rahul Saroha (what??? where?? who??? how???)

Ms. CCET Contenders:

Shakun Salwan (totally expected)

Snehlata (totally expected)

Sarabjit (what??? where?? who??? how???)

The voting also was an interesting type. It was going to be popular demand and most hooting which got a victor his/her victory and needless to say, our batch can hoot!

I will cut to the chase in saying that the chosen pair was Karan Kaul and Sarabjit who gave a stellar performance in the small act they had been asked to put together and stole a lot of thunder. Thus even the crackling sound of Shakun's many slaps on Rahul's head which evoked much laughter among the ranks and the interesting act which was given to Sneh and Ashutosh could not win over the audience as much as an adamant Sarab and an arrogant (in the act) Karan did. This, it was; they became Mr and Ms CCET.

Now here's the interesting thing about this crowning. Sneh has always been the symbol of our class. Having been our CR for the past four years, she has been representing us all through the highs and lows of engineering and its seems apt to crown her our queen. On the other hand, Shakun has been the symbol of status and style for our class and fashion comes to her naturally. Thus it would seem appropriate to crown her as the Ms. CCET and salute the style she carries.

Allow me to introduce the personality of Sarabjit now for closer examination. Although I am in no way eligible for analysing someone else, here's the factsheet:

Sarab is a studious girl with an aversion towards bunks. In the past she has avoided them like the plague and has been in the habit of ending up in the classroom at the end of any bunk declaration. She is critical of the mannerisms of our teachers but respects them and whatever she studies. She is naughty amongst her friends and quick at giving witty remarks and quips at anyone who dares cross her path. Her habit of making assignments as early as possible and then distributing them to the general public for copying purposes shall never be forgotten, specially since nearly everyone of us has copied from her work at some point or the other. This description is incomplete without comments from her immediate friends so one must refer to them.

Now here's the question- how is it that this geek (if I may be allowed to use this word in the traditional sense of a studious person) win the crown when opposed to such heavyweight opponents as our long-standing CR Sneh and fashionable Shakun??

Is it that our class has come of age in not deciding by prejudice but by performance? Or has Sarab proven that one day, the geek (and the meek) shall inherit the earth??

Whatever be the answer, it is certainly true that Sarab has proven worthy of her title, being a five-star addition to the Variety (as Sneh put it) that is present in our batch and has been able to make way into the lives of all of us at eece2009, either by her witty comments, her ensuing laughter or by way of her assignments!
