SM Food Court Bloggers Event at SM San Lazaro

The SM Food Court bloggers event in SM City San Lazaro that Edel and I attended last Saturday afternoon was a fun gastronomic experience, to say the least. They prepared a special feast for us and we were left with no choice but to sample them all. Did we enjoy? Of course! Edel even won a box of pizza from Lots'a Pizza in the raffle draw.

Globe UnliMAIL: Unlimited Mobile Email for All

Globe was more than willing to orient bloggers about Globe UnliMAIL during the blogger launch of the said service at Blue Water Day Spa in Greenhills Friday night last week. Globe UnliMAIL is an unlimited mobile email service that "enables you to send and receive emails directly on your mobile device anytime, anywhere."

It's so easy to get Globe UnliMAIL for your phone. To register, just follow these simple steps:

1. Text UNLIMAIL to 8888.
2. You will receive a SMS notification message containing a WAP link.
3. To download the UnliMail application for FREE, click on the WAP link.
4. When asked for connection settings, choose myGlobe Connect APN.
5. The application will automatically download onto your phone.
6. Upon successful download, load the UnliMail application on your phone to start sending and receiving emails.

Globe UnliMAIL supports the following email and PIM data on Symbian based devices:

Gmail – Inbox, contacts and Calendar
Hotmail/Windows Live mail – Inbox
Yahoo Mail
AOL mail – Inbox
ISP based POP3 or IMAP accounts - Inbox only
Microsoft Outlook, using the UNLIMAIL PC Connector – Inbox, contact and calendar
Outlook Web Access – Inbox contacts and calendar

Compatible Handsets:

To be honest, I liked the fact that Globe decided to offer a free trial of Globe UnliMAIL to us Globe subscribers until March 31, 2010. This is advantageous to both parties. We can give feedback about the service to them and they, in turn, could improve the service if ever problems with its usage arise.

However, this service isn't compatible with my iPhone yet (how sad!). I hope Globe do something about it because there are already a great number of Globe subscribers that are iPhone users.

TweetDeck is one of the most functional iPhone applications ever created. It lets you manage your Twitter account(s) easily and more efficiently. It also connects you to popular social networking site Facebook.

Pro's:
1. Viewed in the community of Twitter users as one of the best Twitter apps for Iphone.
2. Nice user interface.
3. Manage Twitter accounts easily.
4. Share photos via twitpic, yfrog, and tweetphoto.
5. Provides Facebook integration on your dashboard.
6. Easily re-tweet messages.
7. With geotagging.
8. Real time response.

Con's:
1. Confusing at first when used since a lot of dashboard is visible.
2. Only two available themes: black and white.

iPhone App Review: Globe Calls

A couple of days after getting Globe Calls application from the App Store, I have found it useful and therefore, worthy of my iPhone's precious memory space.

Pro's:
1. Easy access on all Globe Call Promos.
2. User-friendly.
3. No particular syntax or special numbers to memorize.
4. Integrated SMS function.
5. Call Promos are described clearly with their corresponding rates.
6. Integrated into the phonebook.
7. Globe Promos are updated regularly.

Con's:
1. Applicable only to Globe subscribers.
2. Application is free of charge.

The Real Deal: iPhone 3GS Vs. Nokia E71

Just the other day, my sister was offered with a phone upgrade by Globe. It's none other than an iPhone 3GS. She's been a loyal Globe subscriber for some time now. She's not interested in the offer as she's saving up for her travel plans so she brought up the offer to me, which got me thinking. Should I replace my current phone, a Nokia E71, with the more high-end iPhone 3GS?

The iPHone 3GS is being offered to my sister for only P23,000. It's a subsidized amount which is part of my sister's subscription rebate of sorts. Not bad considering the price has been cut in half (at current market price).

While iPHone 3GS is accessed through human touch, Nokia E71 uses a smart qwerty keyboard. Both iPhone 3GS and Nokia E71 can view office documents. However, it's Nokia E71 that can edit it. In terms of battery life, Nokia E71 lasts longer (approx. 5 days maximum). Specs wise, we all know which phone is better between the two. But still, iPhone 3GS is just so hard to resist.

Globe Gets Hold of iPhone 3GS, Launch on July 31, 2009

Globe Telecoms, the mobile giant that brought iPhone 3G here in the Philippines, has earned yet another market advantage after owning the rights to be the sole distributor of iPhone 3GS in the country. Globe is set to launch the latest mobile gadget from Apple on July 31, 2009.

Yugatech.com shares the good news:

Reservations will be accepted starting July 15. Customers can reserve by calling the Globe hotline at 7301000, through www.iphone3g.globe.com, or by going to any Globe Business Center.

The iPhone 3G S was announced by Apple last June 9, 2009. Globe Telecom has not yet decided on the price of the iPhone 3G S.

Excited? Yes, but only if Globe decides to lower the price this time. So far, my Nokia E71 is functioning perfectly and serving its purpose well. Let's see if I changed my mind soon.

Playing Badminton at Badminton City

We just got home after playing badminton at Badminton City. It is a nice, indoor badminton place that rents badminton courts at affordable rates. It is located just beside SM Manila, which makes it more appealing to badminton enthusiasts. Along with E and my officemates, we enjoyed playing with our raquets for several hours. I sweated a lot I think I could lose weight fast if I will play the sport regularly.

Badminton City charges P250 per court during weekdays and P100 per head on weekends and holidays. This is cheap compared to other badminton centers in Metro Manila. They appreciate reservations especially if you are coming as a big group. My only complaint about Badminton City is the poor maintenance of the restrooms. The rest of the area is well-taken care of by the friendly and courteous staff.
