No doubt ERPs bring with them best practices and a good control over any organization for management. But what has been the common refrain of all these organizations is that in the process of moving towards complete ERP solution, organization loses their intrinsic values and belief which they have cultured and nurtured over so many years. My experience in the corporate world suggests that ERP should be first implemented in the support functions like HR, Payroll, Finance, Logistics, Sales and Distribution etc. The main functions like Marketing, Production and Engineering should be the last phases in any organization which should go the ERP way and preferably in that order.

The support functions in any organizations are more or less same so transgression to respective ERP modules is much easier and less cumbersome. But Marketing, Production and Engineering are three modules which describes the core of any organization. To preserve the intrinsic systems, organizations should necessarily go in for these areas in the last lap.

The coming eight to ten years will see, India diversifying in to other alternate sources of energies. Wind, Solar Photovoltaic, Nuclear and Gas will have investments and their respective share in the energy matrix will go up northwards. Coal will continue to be the major fuel in the energy basket. But indigenous supplies will come under heavy pressures. In fact, state run utilities have started feeling the pressures even now.

Wind will continue to grow at 15-20% while Solar PV manufacturing will go ballistic. 20000 MW of Solar PV by 2020 is definitely achievable and India must win this 20-20 game. Power Sector is going to be another area which will generate huge employment opportunities in India. Close to 150000 skilled and semiskilled personnel will be needed to fill up the gap. This is would be over and above the skilled manpower which the country has now.

But why should we be aware of these commands when we have GUI which does all the work for us. To answer this question, let us suppose you Windows OS has crashed and then the only way you can still communicate with your computer is though command line. If you are a PC or a Mac user and are not in to hard core computer programming I would say you don’t need a full or advanced course in MS-DOS or command line commands but definitely you should be aware of the basics so that you can help yourself in crisis.

From your Windows start option, you can choose run command to open command prompt. Once you press OK button a new windows displaying command prompt will open up. This is here you can type in your commands and get the results first hand.

cd

This command is used to change directories.

Help

There is an option available with MS DOS which lets you display all the important commands just by typing help. Then if you are not sure about any command just type in that command followed by /?, you will have information about that command.

Dir

Dir stands for Directory command. Dir/P will display the directory contents in three columns. Dir/w will display the content in list form and Dir/p will display the directory content in breaks.

mkdir and rmdir

These two commands will create and romove directories for you.

Del

Del command is used to delete a file and directory

Ipconfig

ipconfig command is used to reveal network data and IP address or MAC address of your computer.

Systeminfo

The command to retrieve extensive information about your system, including Windows serial number, computer model, and available RAM.

Ping

Ping is the most popular command which is used to find out status of network connectivity. If one wants to hold the screen for indefinite duration one can type ping followed by switch  -t.

But for the Windows operating systems where IIS was already installed on port 80, the option was to choose another port. Preferably 8080 port if it were free. In that case, once the WampServer 2 has been downloaded and installed on to your Windows just look out for httpd.conf in the Apache folder and make two changes.

• ServerName localhost:8080 in place of ServerName localhost:80

• #Listen 12.34.56.78:8080

  Listen 8080 instead of Listen 80

Now that you have made these two changes, click on the Restart All Services option and put your WampServer 2 online. You will have your Apache server up and running with PHP5 and MySQL support on windows.

To test whether Apache server is running fine, type http://localhost:8080 in the address bar and you will have the introduction page nicely displayed.

If you have a decent computer system with all the needed software installed on your computer, just don’t bother about Win 7. No doubt Microsoft has spent a lot on its development and promotion after the failure of their earlier launched OS and Windows 7 is definitely cool with lots of attractive features but all these can wait. You can go in for a new OS whenever you buy a new computer system or till the time the Windows 7 gets stabilized.

Every system, in addition to Alpha, Beta and RC stages, passes through stabilization phase during its initial journey on the road to full commercialization. Windows 7 will eventually prove to be real replacement to XP, this fact is almost established. If you have a decent OS be it XP, Vista or Ubuntu 9.04 and you are pretty much satisfied with their performances then you should not hasten up.

WordPress has been aware of this issue and to enable users to upgrade fast, WordPress has come up with a new compatibility feature which will act as some sort of confidence building measure for users to decide and select the upgrade.

Whenever a plugin is being viewed, one can select its version and the WordPress version from the respective dropdown menus. In case earlier users have voted for the Plugin and its new version, the consensus in red and green will decide whether one should go ahead or not.

WordPress is at present in the data gathering mode and would like plugin users to vote for all the plugins in the WordPress versions bloggers are using and not to exercise any option on the broken links.

WordPress aims to provide its users with complete data on plugins in their latest versions.

To put it in simple words, leaders are definitely born but anyone who has got a strong and forthright personality can get trained for honing his or her skills to become an effective leader. Management education and discussions on various case studies which students undergo during their stint at reputed management institutes are programmed to achieve that objective. Students from all profile and backgrounds enter good management institutes to become professionals in their respective own fields. While some of them succeed in getting to the top and other just continue to function as important clogs in the wheels of the system.

Corporate houses also organize various leadership programs. The objective of these programs is to develop employees in their respective fields. Leadership training imparted at corporate houses and management institutes are different as the objectives are altogether different. Organizations need the skill sets focused and relevant to their field of operations while management institutes focus on building a generic leader.

To summarize, training does help but in case the personality of an aspiring leader is not receptive to various management tools and techniques then no amount of training can help.

Last but not the least there are three rules of the leadership through which one can aspire to become a successful leader. First rule recommends, leading by example. Second rule says, leading by example and third rule also says, leading by example.

There were announcements by many Industry majors to hop on to the power sector bandwagon in the country. But most of them were playing cards close to their chest. Faced with shortages of Main Equipment, many of Private Players went beyond the country’s shores and placed orders for about 20000 MW of orders on Chinese manufacturers. To allay the fears of planners, there were visits by Indian Teams to assess Chinese manufacturers capabilities. But Chinese juggernaut continued to roll on. Chinese suppliers have now been able to enter apart from Main Equipments like Boilers and Turbo-Generators, every other domain of Generation and Transmission sector. They have been able to bag orders for Transformers, Switchgears, Busducts and other distribution equipment.

In totality, Indian Power Sector has started looking up. Private investors have again started firming up their plans and placing orders with advances. A scenario which was not evident for over a year now. First two quarters of this fiscal year has seen private investors placing orders and paying initial advances. NTPC Ltd has announced setting up of eight super critical sets of 660 MW in the country. This would go a long way in revving up the gloomy mood of past one year in power sector. Funding agencies are also flush with funds and are eager to lend but albeit cautiously. Recent IPOs by Adani, NHPC and Indiabulls have been successful and this has further pepped up the mood in Power Sector.

12th plan projects which are expected to go in ordering mood now have more investments coming from private than the sum total of investments from Central as well as State sector.

There are many options available today. Some are offline and some are online. But majority of options involve  repetitive tasks. The offline options that we have today are GIMP, MS Paint, Paint.Net etc. Topping the list of online editing graphic software are Flickr and Aviary. I have been using both Flickr and Aviary for quite some time now. Though Flickr is quite rich in terms of kinds of images it has in its repository but Aviary scores in the editing options. In additions, images can also be hosted online in Aviary and URLs can be used to link and display the images in the posts. Same options are available with Flickr but taking screenshots and then arriving at your desired cropped image portion can be done in no time with Aviary. Aviary also has Effect and Color tools which are still in Beta but are quite rich in features.

• FeedBurner FeedSmith by FeedBurner: Originally from Steve Smith, this plugin detects all ways to access your original WordPress feeds and redirects them to your FeedBurner feed so you can track every possible subscriber.
• Yet Another Related Posts Plugin by mitcho (Michael Yoshitaka Erlewine): Popularly called as YARPP, this post is quite effective in finding out the related posts from your achieves and places them as hyperlinked items in the list below the referred post.
• Email Users by Vincent Prat (email : vpratfr@yahoo.fr): This plugin may not appear in every top five plugin lists but some bloggers have used it quite effectively with a focus on Viral Marketing strategy.
