Understanding the Processing Phase of eDiscovery

As described in my recent post, the Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner has recently published a booklet on privacy and reference checks.

In Ontario, for example, the Rules of Civil Procedure require that litigants must disclose to all of the parties to the litigation the existence of every relevant document in their possession, power or control and must produce to the other parties all of those relevant documents that are not privileged."

Proofpoint Wins 2012 CSO New Technology Demo Award

CIOs and Legal Officers must work closer, says Gartner survey
"Chief legal officers (CLOs) consider their enterprises' CIOs to be important contributors to corporate strategy and policy, but they need more in-depth interaction with their IT department, according to a survey by Gartner and ALM.
In October of 2011, Gartner and ALM surveyed 70 CLOs, deputy CLOs, general counsels, and division general counsels. The survey was designed to increase the understanding of how CLOs use technology in the enterprise, the relationship between the CLO and CIO, and the types of projects CLOs engage in with CIOs."

Federal courts scuffle in face of digital information overload

This week the Department of Justice and the court's Administrative Office (AO) jointly developed a set of recommendations aimed at easing what it calls one of the most challenging aspects of its work: wading through "electronically stored information (ESI)" for the discovery or evidence gathering phase of a court case. ESI can include everything from writing, drawings and charts to photographs, e-mail, voice-mail and computer file folders."
