Is my cat Norwegian?

I recently caught a glimpse of a Norwegian Forest cat on TV and was surprised how much it resembles my humble house cat, Domino. The fierce mane. The long bushy tail. The tufts of Fur in the ears and Paws. The fluffy coat.

I may be onto something here.

I checked out as much of the breed standards as I could decipher from the descriptions. And it seems to check out.

"The Norwegian Forest Cat is a breed of domestic cat native to Northern Europe. This natural breed is adapted to a very cold climate, with top coat of glossy, long, water-shedding hairs, and a woolly undercoat for insulation. Wikipedia"

Found some great information on the Norwegian Forest Cat Fanciers Association website. http://www.forestcats.net/

Strange that we would acquire such a distinctive breed from a random guy handing out kittens from a cardboard box in a parking lot.

The Odd Gift

There's always one gift that strikes a peculiar chord. Sometimes the item is result of a well thought out plan. Maybe it's a gesture that serves some great purpose. Many times the sentiment behind the gift is one of a message between them. But it can also be a silly, inside joke that continues the good times we done just had:)

Odd gift, you say? This object is some kind of self-defense aid, and I was delighted (my safety was at stake!) and at the same time I was horrified (will I have to use that?).

My new stabber should probably come with a video Shanking For Beginners. Or at least some warning stickers. This odd gift falls into the weird but not wild category.

A few odd gifts from the past:

4 pack 100 watt light bulbs - they're gonna stop making those, you know

a used bible - it's a family bible, just not our family LOL

Extra large grey felt STETSON - I never grew into that hat

bird bath - you had to be there for this one

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is the tree! I can easily get lost in fascination at the twinkling lights and trimmings. And the ornaments can draw my complete attention for long spans of time:)

Our home has a tabletop tree with mini lights and sized-down ornaments. There are so many benefits of having a smaller tree : we can move it around, and it only takes a few minutes to decorate! Besides, my cats leave it alone. If we had a full sized tree in the house, I don't think they could resist the urge to scale it.

I really love old-fashioned Christmas decorations. And I can't wait to get the house fully decked out for the holiday! I know alot of people get stressed about providing gifts, and for me, putting

up Christmas decorations can balance out the hustle and bustle of the shopping activity.

I love to make pomanders with oranges and cloves. These make sweet gifts that are easy to handout for friends. Some people like to use the pomander for a tree ornament or it can be used as a room frangrance.

I also made my own Advent wreath and prepared to open my heart to the spirit of the season - it's a wonderful feeling to celebrate the birth of our saviour and to have heart-felt decorations as part of the tradition.

This little puppy loves to go for a ride! Mimsy is so adorable she attracts attention everywhere she goes. She got outfitted with this carrying bag that straps onto the bike.

I sent Mimsy a one million dollar bill novelty money and she can't wait to go shopping:)

The wind has not always been my friend. It chills me in the winter and blows up dust in the summer. But I believe that I have finally made peace with the breezes that come into my life now - thanks to my new windchime!

This handmade (and Made in USA) chime was a birthday gift from my husband. We mounted it in a spot that sure to catch some air, and it's easy to 'ring' it as you walk onto the porch, too.

I spend many hours sitting on the side porch and this chime adds alot to our enjoyment.

I decided to get my husband a windy gift for his birthday too. . . a tower fan with 3 speeds and a BREEZE setting.

Together, we are making the most of the wind:)

What luck! my husband recently won this huge grill in a drawing. He came home (from a technical training session) with a sparkle in his eye.

Or should I say 'spark'?

It took a few days to get the monster grill delivered, but we are so excited to get it set up and cooking.

This grill has a covered grate, a large smoker, and a side burner. I really can't wait to have some friends over and christen the new cooker. So, maybe it's not ideal season for a cookout but I think we'll suffer through it:)

After several rounds of yucky antibiotics and various meds, I'm well on my way to a full recovery. What started as an annoying sinus infection, turned to bronchitis. Once that battle was won, I thouht I was in the clear.

But then the UTI hit me like a brick in the head! That particular condition comes with it's own problems.

It's surprising how long these common infections can linger . . . it's been months!

I now feel back to my old self and will be posting more on my beloved blog: Edge of the Wildwood.

Yep, it's a scooter! well, one scooter is fine, but two is fantastic.

When I visited my family this summer, we took a few jaunts on the matching motorized bikes.

We traveled along the shady lanes and quiet back streets. We made alot of stops, to take in a view or chat with a neighbor. It's very liberating and fun in a 'w-e-e-e-e-e-e' kinda way

If you ever get the chance to ride a scooter, you should really try it.

Anytime there's a nice break in the weather, it's scooter -time:)

I'm a sucker for a candle! When I saw the new wood wick candles in the stores, I just had to have. Got one for sis, too.

Wood wick candles last a good long time (in my experience) and they give off a soft crackling sound:)

Same brand, different scent - but the candle I used was really active on the crackling noise. The one sister used, not so much.

I tried to record the sounds on video with my digital camera, but cannot figure out how to upload the vid. You'll have to trust me it was not somethng you can ignore.

I'll be getting more wood wick in the future, and enjoy the lovely scents and sounds.

When I saw this headboard in my mama's yard sale - I pulled it out and was hoping it would be sized up for my bed. The old headboard I was using was klunky and boring.

My SUV was so full that I couldn't bring it back to Tennessee; so mama held it for me.

When we visited in July, I was able to get it home and it was really worth the wait!

it appears I now have an old headboard to donate . . .
