Maker Faire 2012: From Robots to Bamboo Bikes

This past weekend we had a chance to spend the day at the 7th Annual Maker Faire event in San Mateo, CA.  The event is put on by Make magazine, a magazine dedicated to the do-it-yourself community.  The event was chock full of intventors and entrepreneurs who are using mostly reused resources to build everything from robots to bamboo bikes.

This year there was a Homegrown Village that featured an array of sustainability projects.  We saw snails, compost, bees and even got to try some probiotic soda.

This is a great event for the whole family with lots of hands on projects for kids and robots of course. We even spotted Wall-E at one point!

Some tips for getting there: carpool or take public transportation, get there early and be prepared to wait in some lines as the parking lots fill up quickly!

It's Time to Take a Stand!

We recently took a stand here at Earthsite and decided to raise our desks.  That's right!  We are now a standing office.  And it feels oh so good.  There have been a slew of articles coming out recently about the downsides of sitting all day.

Below is an infographic by MedicalBillingandCoding.org called Sitting is Killing You, that is worth checking out.

Are you willing to take a stand too?  Leave us a comment.  We would love to know what you are doing in your office to address this.

Discover new ways to work including standing desks, mobile offices and simple exercises that will increase your focus and help you accomplish important goals. A Celebration of Entrepreneurs, Designers, & Inventors in Marin

Earthsite is located in beautiful Marin County, just north of San Francisco, CA where we are fortunate to be amongst an abundance of entrepreneurs, designers, and inventors.  Recently, The Venture Greehouse, an initiative of Dominican University of California, opened its doors in San Rafael, CA.

The Venture Greenhouse is a business accelerator and incubator for social & environmental entrepreneurs.  Earthsite worked with The Venture Greenhouse to build a new website in the beginning of 2012.

On Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 4-7 pm The Venture Greenhouse will be hosting the first ever Marinnovation,  A Celebration of Entrepreneurs, Designers, & Inventors in Marin, CA.

Marinnovation will highlight Marin's vibrant, creative culture and showcase the technologies, designs and ventures that are developing throughout the county. Marinnovation marks Marin's emergence from the shadow of Silicon Valley to shine as a catalyst for new ideas, cutting edge technologies and sustainable economic development.
