Northumberland Golf Weekend

A group of customers went on a golf trip to Northumberland at the end of October. They sent us an email recommending where they’d played. Sounds like a great place to go, thanks for sharing!

Dunstanborough Castle
Date - Thursday 5th November
Cost - £25.00, but only £12.50 with 2 for 1 voucher from Today's Golfer
Type - Links
Summary – Fantastic position on Northumberland coast line, playing along the sealine up to ruins of Dunstanborough Castle. Can blow a gale, but wonderful sunny autumn day for us.
Recommend – For Londoners like me sucking in pollution everyday, the air coming off the sea was glorious, the invigorating environment of the beautiful coast line and challenging course makes it an absolute pleasure to play. The fact that I won might also have helped!

Alnmouth (Foxtons)
Date - Friday 6th November
Cost - £12.00 as we booked way in advance
Type - Parkland
Summary – Less of the course is directly on the coastline as the other Northumberland courses we played, so probably more parkland than links. Beautifully maintained and a great variation of holes, 200 yard par 3, 17th a challenge, especially when the wind blows.
Recommend – A smart course and more refined than Alnmouth village. Tough and fairly long, definitely worth playing.

Alnmouth Village
Date - Saturday 7th November
Cost - £20.00
Type - Links
Summary – Shortish 9 holer, but charming as it right in the middle of Alnmouth and directly on the coastline.
Recommend – You can nip round twice in less than 3hrs. Couple of special holes, the 6th and 7th spring to mind but the environment alone makes it worthwhile.

Accommodation - We stayed in Alnmouth, not much to do but pub drinking, but that's ok!

Travel Time - In our car 5.5hrs from London, in a car that isn't an S reg Fiesta with 100K miles on the clock, more like 4hrs.

Warwick School Golf Team

dressed to a tee was started by university golfing mates, so it's great to be working with grass roots golf and supplying Warwick School with kit this year.

We are also a tad jealous as we never had the opportunity to get the blades out at school. Good to see the game is now more accessible for the new kids in town.

We wish these boys in blue all the best in the forthcoming season as they battle it out on the Midlands circuit in their search for glory.

Matt Is King Of The Mountains

Champagne corks have been popping, both in Castel Volturno in Italy and at dressed to a tee HQ, as Matt stormed to victory on the Alps Tour.

It was an awesome performance with a final round of 65, 6 under par. His round included 8 birdies and 2 bogeys - scintillating stuff from the dtat man.

Matt has now fired his way up to 16th on the Alps Order of Merit. A top ten finish for the season is now tantalizingly close.

Matt Impresses On Challenge Tour

After a run of strong performances on the Alps Tour, Matt got the nod to play in his first Challenge Tour event, 'The Dutch Futures' at the Houtrak Golf Club in the Netherlands.

The Challenge Tour sits one below the European Tour and is where many of the best players have earned their stripes.

Matt had a strong tournament with rounds of 69, 72, 70 and 71. This left him 6 under and tied 21st out of a field of 144.

Another good day at the office for Matt.

A few weeks ago I played at Rye Golf Club for the first time.

A dreamy course, but it did raise the dress code issue.

This time it was in the clubhouse. I was unaware that it was jacket and tie for lunch until I was a good few hours from home.

My playing partner had to dig deep into his resources and lend me his Dad's old suit jacket, a shirt, tie and shoes. I did at least bring my own underwear!

The lunch was outstanding, but a jacket and tie just felt too stuffy and formal. The golf vibe should be relaxed. If I had been dressed in a polo shirt or, dare I say it, a t-shirt I would have been no less appreciative of the lunch or the course.

I can't see that when we reach 50 or 60 a dress code of jacket and tie will still exist. I think it's one of golf's biggest PR nightmares and hopefully time will bring this to an end... Magical course though!

Surf & Turf At Trevose

Life does not get much better than a few days on the coast at Trevose, in North Cornwall.

As clubs go, this is pretty close to the dressed to a tee dream. Stunning views of the Atlantic, tip top track, flip flops in the club house, surf school on site and reasonable value if you don't mind roughing it a little.

Staying in the chalets will cost you around £25 B&B per person and then if you play two rounds a day you are looking at £20 a round. Throw in some cheeky bartering and things can look even sweeter.

A very laid back affair.

Stone Creek GC

Stone Creek Golf Course in Oregan, USA is a great example of sustainable golf course management.

- Irrigation is reserved for areas in play.
- Special 'bounce back' grass is planted around the edges.
- Surrounding land is left untouched - encouraging wild flowers to grow.

Golfers can appreciate the natural beauty and course management costs are reduced.

Matt Powers Into Top 30

dressed to a tee pro golfer Matt Cryer has powered his way into the top 30 on the Alps Tour order of merit.

Two weekends ago, at the Trophee Preven's, Matt hit 70, 71, 68, 70 to finish 10th in the tournament.

And last weekend at the International de Normandie, Matt hit a 66 in the last round to leave him tied 13th in the tournament and 29th on the tour order of merit.

Matt is in his rookie season as a professional golfer and is making excellent progress.
