The numbers are in for 2010 and they are spectacular! Book number 500 was sold this year! But more importantly, books were sold in 22 states and 4 countries! We now have people using behavior-limited discipline in 35 states and the word continues to be spread across the nation!

I want to thank all of the pediatricians, psychologists, counselors, teachers, and parents who have helped others learn how to use discipline as a means of nurturing and teaching. Promoting self-control through training exercises, not through simple intimidation, is the wave of the future!

If you are interested in inviting me to speak for your school or organization, please use the contact information in the sidebar. Also, we now have promotional posters available! Please let me know if you would be willing to help get the message out!

Thanks again and here’s to an even better 2011!

Sometimes I receive requests from bloggers and websites for review copies of the book. Other times, I chase after people to see if I can interest them in reviewing the book because I think they might be able to offer a unique perspective. I asked Deb from Spawnocalypse to review my book because her children are neurotypical; if these strategies work for kids with neurodevelopmental challenges, I wanted to hear what a mother of relatively easy kids would say about behavior-limited discipline. I won’t keep you in suspense – she liked it! A lot! Thanks so much to Deb for her thoughtful review! Check it out at her great blog, Spawnocalypse!

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since my book was released. It’s been a great year for spreading the word about behavior-limited discipline. In the past year, almost 3,000 people have visited the site. Don’t Swear is now in 31 states and 4 countries! Plans are in the works for initiating an exploratory study to demonstrate the utility of behavior-limited discipline in the classroom. I am optimistic that 2010 will be even better! I am always up for speaking to community groups about this new approach to discipline. Use the information in the sidebar to find out about my availability. Also, if you have used behavior-limited discipline with your children or class, please write to share your experiences with everyone!

The Creative Parent has just reviewed Don’t Swear and liked the ease with which behavior-limited discipline is incorporated into home and classroom routines. Teacher’s are often reluctant to remove privileges from their students for misbehavior because it leaves them without any leverage for the rest of the day. Behavior-limited discipline gives teachers indefinite leverage and places the emphasis on teaching preferred behaviors, as opposed to simply punishing for bad behavior. Thanks for the great review!

Yet another positive book review! I have been so fortunate to have such a diverse group of reviewers give such positive feedback. Reading for Sanity calls the book “A great tool for parents and teachers who deal with difficult to discipline children.” Here’s the crux of the review:

The main recommendation is to use your difficult child’s stubbornness and controlling nature to your advantage–basically give the control back to the child to get out of her punishment. This makes it so the parent is not the enemy any longer; the child’s own stubbornness becomes the enemy. It also doesn’t extinguish the strong personality traits that as an adult can be used for good. I noticed this immediately with my first child. She is very strong willed and has a mind of her own. As an adult this is a good thing. We need strong women. I don’t want to squash these traits because a push over is not what I want her to become.
