When the Doctor came into my room at the hospital and told me that i had a child with Down syndrome.. My reply was 'what the hell is that'.. That was how naive I was in regards to the term Of Down Syndrome. The oldest version they use to use was Mongoloid. Such a terrible word.. After taking my son home, i began the task of researching everything i need to know about Down syndrome. I studied every book, every Library i could get access to to understand what Down syndrome meant. After finally understanding and learning about it i began the long road to help my child as best i could.. After inquiring in our local area in regards to support groups, Community Centers, Down syndrome association i found there was nothing for parents like me to get the help we needed. So i wrote to the Down Sydrome association and explained to them that i would like to start a parent support group in our local area and if they could provide a list of families in the area so i could contact them via mail in regards of introducing a Support Network.. After 4 weeks of contacting the Association a list was sent to me of the families in the area. They explained to me that they had contacted the families prior sending me the list to get their permission to forward their information to me.. I then approached the local community Centre in our area and asked if they woulsd allow us to open up a support group in their Centre once a month.. They agreed and supplied us with child care workers while the meetings were being held..

Welcome to Emilia's Website

This site is created to help and support parents that are raising children with Down Syndrome. When i gave birth to my son I had no idea what was in store for me at the time. Let alone knowing what Down Syndrome was. At the age of 25 it was very overwhelming . I was scared and confused what to do next.. I had already had two other children under the age of three. So here I was faced with a child that had a disability..
