Even if you have hooks or a hall tree by your front door, winter accessories tend to pile up quickly. Those better arrangements are right here in the form of these clever paint can coat hooks from Instructables user Brian Jewett.

The project is simple enough for almost anyone to pull off. It involves mounting a clean paint can (or two or ten, however many you need) to the wall with screws. No fancy tools or special knowledge are needed.

The insides of the cans hold all of your smallish accessories like gloves and mittens. The metal handle of the can is a great place for hanging scarves or wet socks. Coats are hung over the body of the can. Et voila, everyone in the household has their own special place for all of their outdoor gear – and it’s way cheaper than installing an entire cloakroom.

Ceramist Molly Hatch uses historical images from major museums as the basis for her pieces, so a savvy art historian might notice something familiar in each part of the whole. Note that though she displays these in museums as well, they might be even more interesting at the dining table.

In pursuit of gourmet coffee, millions of us are willing to pay big money at Starbucks or other coffee joints every day. The TopBrewer built-in coffee faucet would make it so simple to prepare the perfect cup of coffee that it would be almost like pouring a glass of water.

Looking nearly identical to a regular kitchen faucet, the TopBrewer is actually a high-tech coffee brewer that contains the world’s smallest milk frother.

A child’s bedroom is the very definition of home to her. It is where she sleeps, where she keeps her belongings and where she formulates her hopes and dreams.

This intimate space fascinated photographer James Mollison, who documented children around the world and the places in which they sleep for his book, Where Children Sleep.

From wealthy children with rooms full of toys to poor children with nothing more than a rug on the dirt floor, the images cover the full range.

Mollison photographs the children away from their rooms and in front of a neutral background. In this way, he removes them from their natural contexts and places each one on level ground with one another.

But it is the bedrooms pictured next to the children that inspire heartache. The rooms chock full of toys are in some ways just as moving as the sparse and barren chambers.

These small cross sections of children’s homes are merely a tiny glimpse into the varied conditions encountered every day by kids all around the world. But they are touching, beautiful and enlightening in a way that mere words can never be.
