The question is not so much where to place plants these days, but how they fit in a larger built environment. Some designers use green as a bridge between indoors and out, with pots and planters spanning each side of a window pane.

Taking tablets to a new level of daily usage, this conceptual cutting board puts your recipes, pictures of the food you are preparing and other resources right where you want them: on hand and adjacent to the ingredients as you slice and dice them.

A built-in scale shows the weight of what you are working with while surface cleanliness detection technology lets you avoid cross-contamination between uses and washes.

Jaewan Jeong proposes two sides to work with, so you can flip and continue working before running water over between stages, and a flip-up stand so you can simply use the recipe feature from around the room as well.

Something about these brightly-colored poof balls is deliciously simple and richly complex all at the same time – they look spontaneous and accidental versus a more typical well-planned design.

MYK Berlin tapped into some childhood impulse to create this series of non-standard furnishings, and staged them well with little leavings all around (which would, in reality, make for even more fun, or at least handy replacement parts).

“The ” Bommel” also known as Pompon is crafted entirely by hand. Several hundred wool threads are bundled, rolled ,tied, and cut, all of carefully selected high-end quality wool. There are up to 1300 woollen pompons and respectively up to 45 kg of wool forming one single object.”

The view of Earth’s landscape from above, such as you see from the window of an airplane, is a truly inspiring sight. It is a sight that inspired Liz Eeuwes to create these delightful handmade rugs.

The Glasgow-based designer was inspired by aerial views of Scottish landscapes and Balinese rice paddies, an inspiration that is evident in the orderly shapes and flowing chaos, respectively.

Each rug is handmade from colorful New Zealand wool. Their exuberantly colored blocks and swirls would be perfectly at home in any room, but would be especially wonderful in a library or office with a map theme.

The Leonardo da Vinci painting The Last Supper is one of those instantly recognizable works of art, but unless you have studied art you may not know that there is a great deal of symbolism in the way that the figures are all positioned. Bella Maneira is a series of table textiles that explores that symbolism.

In sets of 13 place mats or three table runners, the series depicts Jesus and the 12 apostles of the Bible by showing only their hands.

The positions of the hands hold the key to their owners’ identities. Some carry objects or wear adornments, and these too give clues as to which apostle they represent.

Luckily for those of us not versed in art history and Christian lore, there is a legend which identifies each pair of hands (click to enlarge). The legend also lists how each apostle appeared in the Leonardo painting for those eager to look for the similarities.

The inventive and playful textile series is the work of French designers Mr. & Mr., who offer them for sale in their online shop.
