Well, 2 cities down (Yubari & Eniwa) 178 Cities to go. Junco and Cheep are on their way to something big. I was surprised at the turn out in Eniwa and have the feeling the crowds are just going to get bigger as the word spreads.

The really good think about seeing the live concert now is that it feels a little more personal and you actually get the chance to meet the artists, shake their hand, get an autograph, etc..etc.., but once the major debut comes and the demand is bigger than the supply everything changes. Prices go up, you may ever see the artists beyond the stage.

The tour goods are now available and what a selection to choose from. I am telling you if you are a band/group follower then you know that first tours are the most valuable after the "big break" (especially with an autograph). Well Junco and Cheep are signing posters like crazy, 100% pure signature. You know what happens from there on out. Just copies of a signature not worth anything except a nice little memorabilia.

Junco & Cheep 180 City Live Tour Hokkaido

Junco and Cheep Hiroishi started their 180 City Live Tour at the Yubari Fantastic Film Festival. It was like killing two birds with one stone(I don't kill birds) lol.

Same Old Story: A Trip Back 20 Years was the film I showed at the festival. Though the film only showed once in the 4 days of the festival, Junco and Cheep performed live every night of the festival. I really good start for the rest of the tour going through 2009 and 2010.

This is a different kind of live tour than the ones you might be thinking of. The northern island of Japan, Hokkaido has 180 towns inside its vast area of land mass. Most of the towns are really small, but when you are doing live shows in small towns there is one thing that spreads quickly.

Rumors.

The Japanese call it uwasa, but for Japanese musicians it is the best thing next to hot Sake.
The next towns in line for the show is Eniwa, and Otaru. This is only the start, but I really get the feeling they are going to take off with in the latter part of 2009.

Junco has been getting a lot of views from both Japanese and Westerners a like on her MySpace page. I have yet to update the info on her page, but as the tour starts to pick up you will be able to her more of her music there as well.

Cheep is...well Cheep is Cheep. He still has his die hard followers and some of the younger generations are starting to take to him. His MySpace is not as trendy as Junco's, but nonetheless still getting decent hits.

Both musicians write a blog (in Japanese) which can be read on the Discovery Music homepage.
If you are into different kinds of music from around the world then I can tell you now you are going to enjoy the music of Junco and Cheep. Keep you updated when I can.

Yubari Fantastic Film Festival 2009 Theme Song "名画座"

Yubari Fantastic Film Festival 2009 Theme Song "名画座" pronounced "MEIGAZA" meaning something like classic film theater in Japanese. The song was written and composed by Cheep Hiroishi and sung with JUNCO. It is an amazing song even if you don't know Japanese. The promotion video that was made for the song and the film festival is also very well made.

You can almost understand the words just by watching the video. Please leave a comment on what you thought about the song and video. It is kinda long running for over 6 minutes, but you still will want to watch it again.

I just went to Yubari the other day to help film a promotional video of Cheep Hiroishi and Junco's new song that will debut at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival in February 2009. While I was there I got a chance to take a lot of photos of the town which I wanted to share with my blog readers.
I was suprised to see all the movie advertisments from the old days still displaying on billboards almost anywhere you look. I couldn't walk 20 feet without seeing some sort of movie display. Back in those days the ads were huge. There was not ink-jet printer so they were hand painted and put up everywhere from small coffee shops and hotels to government offices and schools.

I guess back in the day it was the movie festival to be at. The movie craze took a brief break due tolack of funding and the town's own finacial and political issues, but it seems to have bounce back. And just in time too.

My film along with about sixty others will be showing over a period of one week between February 26th to March 3rd. I am assuming it is going to be pretty big. I will definitely give more updates on the festival as I know about them and a good review of the festival after it is over.

The town is still filled really great people who are almost all movie fanatics. It really like walking into a completely new world. I
forgot that I was in Japan.

An experience some say you will remember for a life time. I'll just have to see for myself.

Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival: Same Old Story

The Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival 2009 is one of the most famous film festivals in the world. The Festival draws over 50,000 people in its one week movie and film extravaganza.
The festival starts on February 26th and run through March 2nd with closing ceremonies on March 3rd.

Some of the films that will be showing is (cough) mine; Same Old Story: A Trip Back 20 years, Crows Zero 2 (opening), and Madagascar 2 (closing). Of course there are too many more to
mention, but the festival brings a lot of international talented filmmakers together and allows them a huge venue to promote their films.

Though Yubari itself is very small (and bankrupt) it didn't stop the film festival from continuing its name's legacy. If you are in Japan during the time of the festival I really recommend you attend. It is an experience you will never forget and a culture you will always remember.

It is officially official. Same Old Story is the Winner for Best International Music Documentary from the New York Independent International Film and Video Festival. NYIFVF is not highest in film festival rankings, but is was our first feature film and something showing the film's accomplishments no matter how big or small it may be.

Same Old Story has really started to take off in 2009. Being less than a year old it already is featured on Wikipedia and IMDb. This has opened doors to future festivals one of which we are going to in February, Yubari Fantastic Film Festival.

Barack Obama's Inaugural Speech Transcript and Video.

Well it is official. The man whose is going to bring change to America. The 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama. Watch and listen as he delivers his Inaugural Speech to the U.S. and the rest of the world. Some critics have nothing better to do than to talk smack about something they could never do and tried to downplay the Address, but it is a really moving speech.

I have also add the transcript which took a long time to write but for the sake of the hearing impaired or speaker imparied readers out there. Sit back and enjoy.

So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.

That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age.

Homes have been lost, jobs shed, businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly, our schools fail too many, and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable, but no less profound, is a sapping of confidence across our land; a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, that the next generation must lower its sights.

Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real, they are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this America: They will be met.

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn-out dogmas that for far too long have strangled our politics.

We remain a young nation, but in the words of Scripture, the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit; to choose our better history; to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea, passed on from generation to generation: the God-given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness.

Time and again these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked till their hands were raw so that we might live a better life. They saw America as bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions; greater than all the differences of birth or wealth or faction.

This is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on Earth. Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished. But our time of standing pat, of protecting narrow interests and putting off unpleasant decisions -- that time has surely passed.

Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America.

For everywhere we look, there is work to be done.

The state of our economy calls for action: bold and swift. And we will act not only to create new jobs but to lay a new foundation for growth.

What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them, that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long, no longer apply.

MR. The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works, whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified.

Where the answer is yes, we intend to move forward. Where the answer is no, programs will end.

And those of us who manage the public's knowledge will be held to account, to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day, because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.

Nor is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. Its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched.

But this crisis has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control. The nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous.

The success of our economy has always depended not just on the size of our gross domestic product, but on the reach of our prosperity; on the ability to extend opportunity to every willing heart -- not out of charity, but because it is the surest route to our common good.

As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals.

Our founding fathers faced with perils that we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations.

Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake.

And so, to all other peoples and governments who are watching today, from the grandest capitals to the small village where my father was born: know that America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and we are ready to lead once more.

Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with the sturdy alliances and enduring convictions.

They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use. Our security emanates from the justness of our cause; the force of our example; the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.

We are the keepers of this legacy, guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort, even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. We'll begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people and forge a hard- earned peace in Afghanistan.

With old friends and former foes, we'll work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat and roll back the specter of a warming planet.

And because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect.

To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict or blame their society's ills on the West, know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy.

To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history, but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds.

And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to the suffering outside our borders, nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.

Well has most of you know from looking to the upper right of this blog I am am a Twittering fool. I have met a lot of talented musicians and made quite a bit of friends. One really cool Twitter that I came across the other day is @JMKom. His bio reads "Ravenous Musician, Live Radio Host turned Blogger"... (aren't we all) and hosts a really nice blog on...Yes you've guessed it..Blogspot.

Same Old Story on IMDb

Same Old Story finally after months and months of submissions has found its spot on IMDb.
This was no easy task, but after submitting to Withoutabox and then winning an award for "Best International Music Documentary" it started to open up a whole new can of media spinach.

Now that the film's title page is up and running on IMDb it is becoming even more of a task to submit updates. Don't get me wrong the guys and gals over at IMDb are doing a great job, but would be nice if things were a lot easier to submit.

I am still only 80% satisfied, but I am sure they will eventually get around to upgrading that satisfaction to 100%.

So this is for all of you film makers out there who are trying to get your film "out there" and be seen by the rest of the world in the easiest way possible. You have got nothing to lose by submitting to IMDb except them rejecting you. Even my submission got rejected the first time. Persistance is the key here along with a long line of PR linked throughout the world wide web.

JUNCO'S MYSPACE

In my previous post I wrote about the Hayashi Tetsuji Tribute Album, "4TEARS" featuring 4 Hokkaido female artists. One of those artists is JUNCO whom Discovery is now promoting and managing with hopes of a major debut.

With the boom of MySpace Music recently a MySpace Music Profile was definately a good move. The only problem with MySpace is that their layouts are very tacky and don't allow a lot of room for customization other than even more tacky generators or you have to be very good at knowing how to code your way through the MySpace mess.

At any rate I was bound to find a way to make the design I wanted be shown on MySpace and was lucky enough to find someone online who knows the ins and outs of MySpace (whom I will post about later) and turn Junco's MySpace Profile into an original masterpiece.

Tribute to Hayshi Testsuji

For all of my readers who follow Japanese music, Discovery has just released a new album paying tribute to one of Japan's most famous song writer and composer, Hayashi Tetsuji (Last name first).

The album is called 4 Tears produced by Cheep Hiroishi and it features 4 cover songs sung by 4 different female artists living on the northern island of Japan, Hokkaido.

The first song is called "September" originally sung by Takeuchi Mariya and cover by CARIN.
The second title is "Mayonaka no Doa" (Midnight Door) originally by Matsubara Miki and cover by Kakimoto Nanae.
The third song is "Senaka" (Back) originally by Misora Hibari, cover by ERINA.
The fourth and final song is "Kanashii Iro Yane" (Sad Color Right?) by Ueda Masaki, cover by JUNCO.

You can listen to the samples at the 4Tears MySpace Music page. Though the songs are kinda old now the new singers bring life back into the words.

Back to the Basics

Well today I just thought what is the purpose of this blog. Some of you may be going "Why is the title World Ethnic Sample CDs and there is not a lot about Sample CDs" and I understand you 100%. When I first started this blog, it was going to be for promoting my music and since the hompage did not yet have a blog I decided to create one on blogspot. Little did I know that I would get so many readers.

Recently I have been posting completely out of topic and had 3 thoughts. 1: Change the title of the blog so that I could freely write about what I want to. ( and then deal with seo from ground zero again) or 2: Stop posting freely and make the blog less interesting to read. And 3: Disregard 1 and 2 and continue to do what I am doing trying my best to keep music related, but sometimes having a little fun with other topics.

Obiously if I don't post more often it kinda defeats the purpose of having a blog I would guess. So to all of you who have read my blog I just want to say thanks for putting up with my off topic posts and not writing for weeks at a time. I am still new in the blogging world, but will do my best to not do a half-assed job in the future.

Shaq Attack on Twitter

Wow!! it is official. Shaq Attack on Twitter. It's always nice to see talent step out of the box and join the rest of the world. I am sure if this would of happened 10 years ago it would be a different story with people sending 'autograph please' messages and totally forgetting that Shaq is actually a real person just like us.

Since the recent growth of internet social networks there has been a surge of talent joining cyberspace and I think this is a good thing. It lets the fans know that even the biggest of stars can interact with regular people and enjoy the WWW without being hassled. GOING TO KOREA

I am going to Korea tomorrow to promote Discovery's sample CD collection and meet some musicians about recording a new sample CD with Ethnic Korean sounds and music. I have been getting a bunch of requests lately for traditional Korean sounds and have not had the chance to give a specific date, but I can tell you it is in the near future.

Part 2 of the trip will be talking about promoting recording artists from Korea over here in Japan. The relations between Japan and Korea have been getting better and better when you think that less than eight years ago Japanese culture wasn't allowed in Korea. What better time than now to increase relations even more.

Lastly, I am also going to promote the Japanese music Documentary "Same Old Story" (Korean Version) with hopes that it will show at the PIFAN in 2009 along with the EBS documentary film festival.

Of course all work and no play is not fun, so I will be taking lots of pictures and post updates when I get back to Japan. Talk to you all then.

The soundtrack for "Same Old Story" the documentary film that won Best International Music Documentary at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival has been released for sale by Discovery Firm and can be purchased through the Discovery Sound website using Paypal and of course Amazon.

The album includes the title song "Same Old Story" and an instrumental track called "Overlook" both written and performed by Cheep Hiroishi the musician whom the film was about.

Sales are limited to 10,000 copies till the end of 2008. If you haven't already bought the album, I recommend you take advantage of the first release.

For a measly $10 you are getting an original album by a highly acclaimed Japanese artist.

Another Music Sampling Powerhouse

When you sign up for an account on Facebook anything can happen so it appears. I was contacted by Zenhiser asking to added as a friend, but was surprised when I took a look at the site and seen it was another sound sampling sight filled with loops, samplers, one-shots, and more. Since I also run a similar site I thought why not spread the word.

Zenhiser has a massive library of sounds that can be downloaded for royalty free use in your own productions. The site itself is very well done with a clean and easy too use interface layout. You will find just about anything you are looking for. If you are a fellow producer like myself, then can also do a link exchange with Zenhiser to get your site a little more PR. You can find the link at the bottom of the site. It is really simple. Just link to Zenhiser and they link back to you.

All in all I give the site a big two thumbs up for design, quality, and originality.

"Same Old Story" Wins Best International Music Documentary

It's final. The Japanese Documentary "Same Old Story" has won Best International Music Documentary at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival September 2008.

This was a very unexpected surprise as this was a first time film and of course independently produced and directed. Since the news of our film winning an award from such a large film festival, it has opened the doors to future festivals.

2009 is going to be a very big year for our movie as it is going to be shown at 6 more festivals throughout the world.
I really hope this film will touch peoples hearts and give them insight on their own life and history.

I know this poster is in Japanese and I am working the English translation hoping to get it online by the end of the week. I just couldn't wait to share it will all of my readers.

Independent Music at its Best

Well we all know that there are very many talented musicians in the world that go unseen and unheard by the mass public, and sometimes that is the way those musicians want it to be. Then there are those who's dream is to share their music with the whole world. Since the release of Youtube this has become an easy task. The other side of the story is that may be as far as the dream goes.

As an independent music producer you are always taking a risk. But that is the beauty of the business is it not? I was browsing Youtube about 6 months to see who was the latest artist trying to make their "big break" hoping that someone would see them, believe in them, and help them break through that iron curtain, "The Music Business".

Well I found someone who was just singing to be heard. That someone is Shanna Gilfix. Over 500,000 viewers have heard her song, "It Took Losin You" on Youtube and other web channels. I just couldn't sit back and do nothing. So I started emailing like crazy. Even made my own Youtube account just to contact her. I am glad that I did.

She has a natural talent for music and poetry. She has an awsome guitarist, Richard Adoradio by her side who also believed in her and brought her to the next level. At least in my opinion. I hoping to produce her over here in Japan and at the same time believing it is going to open the doors for her in the United States. Without further adue, here is the video that broke the ground in cyber space.

Please watch it, comment on it and cheer her on. Afterall, in the end it's all about the listeners.

Japan to New York and Back

The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival is over and and I am back in Japan getting ready for our next festival which will be the Rockport Film Festival in Texas and then back home in Japan at the Yubari Fantastic Film Festival.

The NYIIFVF was a great first experience for a first time film maker. I would of liked to known more about the festival before attending, but nevertheless still an experience to remember. "Same Old Story" got a really good attendance and even better reaction. Half the audience had tears in their eyes during the film. I am glad it was able to touch peoples hearts for just being an international documentary. I hope to get that kinda of reaction back home in Japan as well. (After all, it's a Japanese film)

I really want to keep those interested up-to-date on the film's festival dates just in case it might be playing in your area, but I am a bad blogger. I am getting better though. OK, enough said. Keep checking back for updates and if I haven't updated in a while WiFi kick me in the leg or something.

Same Old Story Movie Poster

Our movie poster for Same Old Story is finally complete. This film will be showing at Village East Cinema in New York at the film festival.

Showtime is September 21st, 2008 at 12pm. If you come to view the film you are automatically invited to the after party at STILL in New York City. The party goes from 10pm till 2am. There is a dress code (for those interested) and it is casual to formal. No T-shirts, baseball caps, sneakers, etc.

My offer for opening night tickets (September 18th, 6pm til Midnight) still stand, but I only have 4o left. Be sure to email me to reserve yours. I didn't think they would go so fast. The opening party is at Mansion. Check out location from the link.

Same Old Story at New York Film Festival

"Same Old Story", a documentary film produced by Discovery Firm, Inc. has been accepted into the New York Film Festival September 18th through the 25th. If you are in the New York area September 21st at 12:00pm stop by and see the film. You can purchase tickets early online before they sell out.

Will be playing at the Village East Cinema located at 181 2nd Avenue at 12th Street.

In addition to tickets, I have 100 opening night VIP passes that I am giving away to anyone who mails me and lets me know they want some. Opening night is a big event where film makers and producers get together to to see what films will be played at the festival. Last year many big stars showed up to the opening night and mingled with the other VIP guests.

Discovery Sound on Crackle

Well I have uploaded all of the Discovery Sound videos to Crackle. This is by far one of the best video sites on the web. Youtube may have numbers, but crackle has definitely got class. Not only can you upload videos, but you might just get noticed by Sony and they might just like your video and they might just turn your video into a series. Hows that for a run-on sentence.

The best thing about Crackle is that there is no spam videos. All those videos uploaded to Youtube might get really nice comments and feedback, but for those of you who are serious about making something out of your videos, Crackle might just have what you have been waiting for. A loyal audience with loyal followers. Even ontwitter you can't get that. Just so that I am clear on this, I have uploaded the same videos to Youtube, and MySpace, but only received awards from Crackle. This might be something to keep in mind next time you want to upload videos.
