Make A Difference Monday – Benefit for Denise Askegaard

Each Monday, I will be highlighting a benefit that is coming up in the near future. The idea is to raise awareness of local fundraisers and to help you understand that by attending one of these, you can make a difference in the lives of those around us. Oftentimes, for a freewill offering, you can enjoy a delicious meal, take part in silent auctions and raffles or listen to a band, and all the while, you are truly helping out another family.

Please consider taking part in some of these benefits. These are families who are struggling not only with an illness, but with medical bills that keep piling up. The emotional and physical toll has to be excruciating at times. Benefits make a huge difference in the lives of these families. Not only financially, but it’s heartwarming for them to see that others are thinking of them and willing to help out. There’s no better feeling than that!

Recipe Of The Week – Cake Mix Cookies

What are cake mix cookies? They are the simplest cookie that you will ever make. They are so simple that I almost feel guilty for leaving you with such an easy recipe this week. Feels like I should have to put more time in to making something that tastes good but believe me, that isn’t always the case!

For this recipe, all you need is:

1 box of cake mix

1/3 cup oil

2 egggs

If you’d like, you could add chocolate chips, white chocolate chips or heath bits, like I do sometimes!

Stir these 3 ingredients in a bowl until smooth. Drop by spoonfuls on to a cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes. If you’d like, you can frost these with any flavor of frosting you like, depending on the type of cookie, or you can eat them as they are……yummy!

There are a couple of nice things about these cookies; one is that you can use any flavor of cake mix you’d like; chocolate, vanilla, spice…..the flavors are endless! The other is that this recipe makes about 2 dozen cookies so if you just want a small batch, this will fit your needs perfectly.

Laura was diagnosed with ocular melanoma in 2008. She is currently receiveing treatment at a facitily in Philadelphia, which specializes in this rare type of cancer. They continue to incur many expenses to include travel costs, lodging, food, as well as missed time from work.

Mail Carrier Food Drive May 12, 2012

This coming Saturday, mail carriers will be collecting nonperishable food items for area food banks. This year marks the 20th year that the United States Postal Service has taken part in this, the largest one day food collection event, in the nation. Unfortunately, the need for this event increases each year. Statistics show that 16% of Americans are at risk of hunger. That includes 1 in 5 children under the age of 18, plus many, many senior citizens. This is the time for you to step up, dig through those cupboards and help others around you. Chances are that if you are sitting at your own computer right now, reading this very blog, you have a little extra in your cupboard that you can afford to take out and donate next Saturday.

In 2011 mail carriers collected 70.2 million pounds of food, raising the amount of donations in the past 2o years to more than 1.1 billion pounds! It’s easy to see why this event is so important to those in need of food! Let’s make this the best year ever!
