It’s a group effort – Crowd Sourcing that is. While some debate the merits of creation by committee, there is no denying the popularity and benefits of a crowd powered business. We found this very cool infographic over at Indianapolis Chevrolet of all places. It highlights places businesses can turn to when looking to use crowd sourcing to complete a project, as well as some little known facts about the practice, including a country that turned to Crowd Sourcing to create its constitution.

Summer is (almost) here, and that means more outdoor things to do and less time to search the web for all the important stuff. Not to worry, we’ve got you covered. This week in the DesignCrave roundup we bring you packaging fit for a queen, tips on keeping the cloud organized, a design contest you should probably enter and more.

The Dieline has images of the John Walker “Diamond Jubilee” decanter containing a blend of rare malt and grain Scotch whiskies distilled in 1952, coinciding with Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. The 6 legs of the Baccarat crystal decanter represent each decade of her majesty’s rule. The bottle casing is decorated with sterling silver along with a half carat diamond, the royal coat of arms, and John Walker & Sons monogram. The 60 editions of Diamond Jubilee by John Walker & Sons will be released by John Walker & Sons for sale at £100,000.

While Facebook and Twitter may rule the roost when it comes to total users, a few surprising names pop up when you look at the equally important statistics relating to user engagement. Over at The Next Web, they break down social media sites in terms of engagement, and highlight other lesser known, but surprisingly strong players like Tagged and MeetMe.

What exactly is going on in that Viagra commercial? Cracked.com gets to the bottom of this and pokes fun at bunch of other things in their newest feature called Quick Fix.

The Life and Art of Bob Peak: Movie Posters, Commercial Art and More

Fans of movie posters, sports illustration and commercial art are in for a treat. A comprehensive oversized coffee table book on the Life and Art of Bob Peak will be available at the end of May, 2012. The book will include works spanning a forty year career with many never before seen illustrations along with his many iconic illustrations for the Movies, Major Periodicals, National Ad Campaigns, Time Magazine Covers, Fashion Advertising, Sports Advertising and more.

Bob Peak out in advertising in the early 1950’s in New York. He went on to become one of the most prolific illustrators of the 21st century. He has an incredible body of work. From the over 100 Movie Campaigns including posters for such films as, My Fair Lady, Camelot, Star Trek, and Apocalypse Now to his commercial illustrations for TWA to his many Time magazine covers, these iconic images are instantly recognizable.

We first wrote about Bob Peak last year when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosted a retrospective of Peak’s work and pulled 70 of our favorite images for you to peruse. If you weren’t able to make it to Los Angeles to check out the exhibit, now you can experience his art through this over-sized coffee table book.

Ready For The Zombie Apocalypse? The Walking Dead Escape Is Coming

The Zombie Apocalypse. Sure you’ve thought about what you’d do if/when it happens, but are you positive you have what it takes to successfully avoid falling at the hands of the Walking Dead? Soon you’ll have the opportunity to put your survival skills to the test. For three days only, the creative minds behind The Walking Dead Escape will turn San Diego’s Petco Park into a zombie obstacle course coinciding with this year’s Comic Con.

“The world we know is about to end. An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions will sweep the globe causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months society will crumble and San Diego will be first of many cities to fall. Only a few will escape. Some won’t even try.”

Interested in taking part? There are three ways to participate. You can venture in as a Survivor and navigate through a zombie infected evacuation zone. Not interested in being chased by decomposing corpses? You can embrace the inevitable and become one of the undead Walkers that terrorize the fleeing masses. Don’t relish the idea of chasing or being chased? Watch the Apocalypse unfold as a Spectator from the sidelines at the Escape Party.

For those willing to take the challenge, the course will take approximately 35 minutes to an hour to navigate. All Survivors and Walkers will receive an Exclusive Special Edition of the 100th Issue of The Walking Dead. All Spectators will receive an Exclusive Special Edition poster of the cover of the 100th Issue of The Walking Dead.

Got Time to Spare? What to Do With an Extra Two Hours

Can all agree that wasting time searching for data is a lame way to spend two hours? Okay, now that we got that out of the way, imagine what could be accomplished with an extra few hours added to your day. Our friends over at Domo researched the question and created this infographic to show some of the most common – and surprising – answers.

The average information worker spends nearly nine hours each week just looking for information. As you’ll see from the graphic below, getting rid of that burden would free them up to do some pretty cool and interesting things.

Surprising (and Not So Surprising) Things Social Media Reveals About America

Nearly half of all Americans are now members of at least one social network, double the proportion of just two years ago. This infographic created by Social media strategy firm Hasai reveals some surprising and not so surprising facts. Using information gathered from top sites like Facebook, Twitter and Tagged, the graph shows how Americans are using social media.

For those of you wanting to get away from it all, Curbed has a map of New York’s Secret Gardens. With nine little known spots to choose from, you can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Looking to hone your coding skills? TechVert lists the 5 Best Places To Learn Computer Programing For Free. Sites like Google Code University and Course Hero offer classes on all types of programming, including Java and Python.

For the best in package design, check out This Week’s Top 10 Articles on The Dieline. Our favorite this week has to be the chocolate mustache pops by Mr. Chocolate.

Moving With Pets: Keep Your Furry Companions Happy

Are you planning a move in the near future that involves your pets? We found the resources and tips in this infographic very helpful to pet owners who plan on bringing their furry friends along with them to their new home. This graph higlights the best cities to move to if you have pets, and also helpful tips for getting your new landlord to approve of you pet.

Sadly, “moving” is the number-one reason cited for pet abandonment. Both dogs and cats, on a huge, nation-wide scale, fall victim at move time. My Move wanted to find out why moving is such a common reason for pet abandonment. We began by fielding a study on our site, asking an audience of recently moved people whether they had any pets, and if so, whether they were able to bring their animal(s) to their new home. We found out that moving-related reasons include a new landlord not allowing pets, the new home not being appropriate for pets, an allergic housemate, and others.

Innovative Ad of the Week: Bumble Bee’s “Fish” Tale

Let’s face it, in a sea of ho-hum advertising campaigns, it’s refreshing when a company uses innovative techniques to tell a story and raise brand awareness. One of our recent favorites is from Bumble Bee Foods. Using documentary-style webisodes that chronicle top-ranked U.S. men’s tennis player Mardy Fish’s quest to lead a healthy life, they’ve created video vignettes to work in tandem with the brand’s signature program, BeeWell for Life.

Originally launched in 2008, BeeWell for Life is an interactive program that inspires people to exercise, be active and eat healthier. It offers consumers the chance to earn points by logging the miles they walk, run or bike, completing weekly challenges and entering the calories they consume. The Mardy Fish content series reinforces the goals of BeeWell for Life with inspirational stories, tips and motivational messages to help consumers lead healthy, nutritious and active lifestyles.

The latest video in the interactive web series features the philanthropic efforts of Fish through his Mardy Fish Foundation. Mardy explains how important it is for children to play outdoors and be active to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The video features the after school activities sponsored by Fish’s foundation that are designed to encourage athletics, academics and eating well. At the end of the video, Fish invites all to join him in the “Be Well For Life Challenge” at BeWellForLife.com, where Bumble Bee Foods host a community dedicated to create a healthier life in mind, body, and spirit.

This video, like the rest in the beautifully shot series, combines athletic star power, an interesting storyline and a positive message to engage viewers while promoting the Bumble Bee brand.

Looking for a way to wear your contempt of rival Major League Baseball teams on your shirt? Or perhaps you feel like your own team deserves some good-natured ribbing. Either way, you’re in luck. You may remember they put out a line of parody NFL logo t-shirts that left no insult unturned. Just in time for the start of opening day at ballparks across the country, our friends over at Tauntr.com have created a new batch of tees that mock revered sports franchises. This time baseball teams like the New York Mets and the Minnesota Twins are in their cross hairs. We’ve chosen a few of our favorites, including the New York Mess pictured above.

Crunching numbers and compiling receipts this weekend? Forget about tax time – there’s more important things to think about. What’s going on in the world of design, for instance. From an interview with house flipper turned designer, Jeff Lewis to Snoop Dogg’s smokable book, we’ve got all the best links this week in design.

Reality star Jeff Lewis of ‘Interior Therapy’ fame admits to using Tumblr design blogs for inspiration and being a Bravo junkie over at in his Information Diet interview over at Adweek.

The Dieline, the most visited website on package design in the world gives us the list of Top Ten Articles featured on their site this week. Highlights include Snoop Dog’s Smokable Book and Scrabble Typography.

You’d have to be living under a rock to not have heard about Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram. With figures in the billions being bandied about, PCWorld breaks down the numbers for us in their Putting it All into Perspective article.
