I’m 6 days away from blasting off to Sydney for who knows how long, and it’s always a bit unnerving knowing you’ll have to leave your trusted stylists for the great well of unknown of talent across the world.

I decided to start breaking my ice early and trying a new stylist for the cut over here, and went with Quyen of West 4th’s Canvas Salon. She was a lovely gal, did me up a great cut from my grown out gross past-my-chin bob, and now I’ve got a spunky crop ready to travel with.

The color was done by my old faithful friend and chroma favorite, Amanda Brodi of South Granville’s Aveda. I have an ombre job; blue at the tips framing the face, and some wicked purple throughout the rest of the head.

Say a prayer for me that I’ll be able to find someone myself someone to maintain my noggin once I jump across the sea! (Ugh, the anxiety)

I’d spied these bad boys when I was in Holt Renfrew in Vancouver last week, and they’re not only super gorg, but solidly made. The studs are heavy, beautifully lacquered to match the suede and patent leather, and have a nice weight to them.

They’re not cheapie cheapie at $398 per pair, but hey, nothing nice actually is.

Dr Martens were a barrel of peaches and sent me a pair of boots to get down with; a pair of Bentleys to be specific.

These are basically your long term beetle stomping dream – thick soles, leather that looks best after it’s been walked about 12 dozen miles, and some really great stitching detail. I love the contrasting wine colored sole, which is, of course the traditional Dr Marten stitch quality.

If you’re looking for additional Doc suggestions, I’d point you towards Tadita, Spike (in silver, for summer) and Flora Chelsea (for when occasions require some dressing up).

Oh, and if you’re curious about the rest of the getup, it involves some really old H&M jeans with a giant hole under my bum that you can’t see, the magic A.L.C. Margaux jacket, Zara tiger print button up and a vintage tee.

If you’re in Vancouver this Saturday, stop by the Pacific Centre Harry Rosen boutique from 2-6PM, where Fred Perry will be holding an event. This isn’t just for the boys or the andros; I love matching Perry polos over dresses, or with skirts and shorts. Stretch the imagination, and get a free monogram on your shirt with purchase.. swank.

See you there!

Check out the zoom in of the lashes I took today; those are bare, folks.. no mascara (they tell you not to apply any, but it’s not like you’d need to). The experience was so relaxing; while I was awake, I was just laying on super plush pillows on a couch for an hour and a half, in the quiet studio.

As a first timer, I’d equate lash extensions as a boob job for your eyes. Noir has a handful of locations in B.C. and Washington, so if you’re around, stopping in for some eye amping is a must.

Get Uncommon are the folks behind this custom critter case, which has exceeded my expectations to be sure. It isn’t a simple single piece snap in case; the model is actually padded to keep the phone from dislodging from the case, and to ensure maximum shock protection is in place – definitely worth the $40.

Check out the photos below; they show exactly how the case comes apart, and is put together (I added supercheese lens flare sparkles on the final product just for you).

Oh, GetUncommon does iPad cases, too, so you can get all expression-y with your other Apple prods.

The great thing about these two looks is they can so easily blend with each other; the playsuit can be layered with the Topshop dot top, and either of the neon bags, be it the larger V73 tote or tiny Tory Burch cross body would do just swimmingly.

I’m quite enjoying the light denim on light denim look; no longer are we forced to mix and match washes. The thing to remember is texture and effect; the Ksubi shorts work well with the dotted top because they juxtapose two styles. The girlier playsuit has the same effect when compared with the Gap fedora and Kenneth Jay Lane chain.

Finishing off your light wash denim combos is pretty easy; either choose more neon, like with Karen Walker’s Northern Lights sunnies, or opt for something a little more blendy, like Oliver People’s frames, Chloe’s studded or my favorite, Opening Ceremony’s buckled booties.

News outlet’s summer got to have lists are full of ‘em, and they’re all the rage for the everyday audio slinger, but one has to wonder what the deal is behind the massive media push of the in-ear headphone model.

Here’s my beef:

They always fall out.

No matter what, the damn things always fall out of my ear. The only ones I’ve ever worn that have actually worked have been those accursed Beats By Dre, which are moronically expensive at $200 per pair. I’ve been gifted about five pairs of in-ear headphones to try over the past year, and every. single. pair. has made regular suicide leaps out of my ear canal within five minutes of me we wearing them. Maybe it’s my fault for wanting to turn my head so often, to, you know, look at things, but I call that a failure of product design.

They smell weird.

After you’ve squashed them inside your ear canal a few times, you’ll notice they start smelling a lot like a blend of ear wax and cheese. The more they fall out, the more you touch them, which means more of your finger/ear hybrid germs are creating new species and civilizations of stink in your ears. Gross.

They make really loud squishing sounds when you’re trying [in vain] to get them inside your ear.

Perhaps it’s my X-Men level hearing abilities, but I hate hearing that super loud squish and crunch when you’re stuffing the headphones into your ear canal. It gives me the heebejeebies, full on.

Let’s just say it’s regular headphones or on-ear styles for me, for life. I am quite happy with my standard issue iPhone headphones, and my purple Urbanears Zinkens, if you’re curious as to what holds up to my A.D.D. standards.

Now that geek chic is an established thang, Black Milk has the monopoly on spandex galaxy gear and after the pop culture clusterf^ck that was yesterday’s May the 4th, it’s time to revisit what it means to be a person that wears Star Wars clothing.

We’ll cut to the chase; now that the hip anti mainstream mainstreamers have appropriated one of my favourite film franchises, I’m getting a little grumpy about the merch, and who’s jumping on the galaxy western bandwagon.

Here’s my basic requirements for donning that Star Wars gear:

1) You can win, or be a serious contender in Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, original version (any real fan knows the latter three films are better to have existed)

2) You can name at least six alien species in the Star Wars galaxy

3) You’ve taken part [or been in close proximity to] someone who has dressed up in some sort of Star Wars costume (bonus points if you made it yourself)

The bar has been raised, bitches.

(The below photo is not me, but the only photo I found on Google of a girl wearing the Black Milk Star Wars leggings that didn’t make me want to projectile vomit, so congrats to you, mystery girl!)
