On my journey back home from work yesterday, I was disgusted by the amount of litter that had been thrown onto the road side. Numerous fast food bags and plastic bottles covered the grass verge, do people not realise what effect this could have on the environment?

Obviously, some people are oblivious to the problems that litter can cause. The increase in vermin and bacteria is just one problem along with the danger it can be to wildlife. Plastic, for example, can be a major threat to birds, they can think that it is food and then end up choking on it, resulting in death.

If we all disposed of our litter properly then the world would not only be a cleaner, but a happier place. Don’t you agree?

Today is blog action day, where thousands are writing articles online to promote the issue of climate change.

Blog Action Day is an annual event that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion.

It will help October 15th 2009 become the largest online social event. At the time of writing there are roughly, 8,409 Blogs participating.

There are many solutions that will do a little help to some of the issues we face in the modern world. For example, reducing transport – the more cars you have, the more journeys you take, the more damage you are doing. Look at walking to the local store, buy a bike, or use public transport.

People of Suffolk will be pleased to know that the foul ouder that was taking over their county has now been traced back to two sources. An Environment Agency investigation has taken place and they have looked into why the River Lark is such a murky colour and why the the small town of Bury St Edmonds has been hit with this foul smell.

According to the reports, it was infact from the compost at a local farm and the low water levels that were causing the pong.

“With the composting smell we were able to take direct action at the farm in Fornham St Martin. But when the other source is due to the weather and lack of rain for many weeks at the end of the summer, that is not so easy. Many rivers across East Anglia are in a state of low flows. As farm land is very dry, it will take a lot of rain before we see rivers and ground water respond. We are regularly monitoring the river and have treated it with hydrogen peroxide but we hope the rain forecast for this week will improve the river quality and reduce the odour.”

Although the impact on the environment isn’t huge from a motorcycles in developing countries such as India, Pakistan, Morocco, Egypt Motorcycles make up the Marjory of the users on the road. If Electric Motorcycles were put into mass production it could help to reduct carbon immissions in such countries. It also would be a lot quieter!

It’s a well known fact that horses produce several tons of manure a year. Usually it gets stored then spread on fields as fertiliser sometime in the spring.

Another use for horse manure is to turn it into burnable bricks for your wood burner or stove. All you need to do is to make yourself a DIY brick mould, fill it with horse poo and after compressing it down, turn it out and leave it to dry for approximately 3 weeks.

Once the bricks have dried you can use them on your burner. Just make sure you build a mould that is the right size for the bricks to fit in your stove.

Many car enthusiasts don’t want to move to electric cars or ones fuels by liquid nitrogen. Mainly due to the lack of performance with speed, acceleration and that thing know an umph many are put off by leaving petrol powered cars!

But there is an alternative called the Tesla Roadster. The car is powered by batteries similar to the ones found in your laptop. It means that it has a greater range and the speeds and acceleration match many well know sports cars.

The only problem is the range isn’t great, with combination of charging time it would mean that it could take a few days to drive from the bottom of the UK to the top of Scotland.

In this weeks UN summit talks have started off well with China starting to look towards reducing carbon emissions by 2020. China’s growth is set to continue at a rate of around 8 -15 % but they are going to try and reduce emissions to those of around 1990.

In the past the reluctance of China to commit to reducing emissions has meant that the United States haven’t agreeded to similar comitments. The US don’t want to reduce their emissions while China don’t as that would give China an advantage in production and business.

Hu Jintao, the Chinese president, Said

“At stake in the fight against climate change are the common interests of the entire world,” Hu said. “Out of a sense of responsibility to its own people and people across the world, China fully appreciates the importance and urgency of addressing climate change.”

The independent film has taken some time to get to release but on September 18 the film was released in selected theatre’s in New York. The film to the Sundance festival by storm hence being picked up into the main stream film industry.

A 12 year project the film is almost all about Tickell’s journey no not all about the discovery of new fuel sources. There’s no news yet about a UK release but if successful it could be appearing in smaller independent theatre. In the mean time if your interested you can check out the trailer below.

They are one of the most magnificent creatures on planet earth. But sadly, we are seeing far less of them now.

Because according to new research, polar bears have shrunk over the last century. The scientists compared bear skulls from the early 20th Century with those from the second half of the century and found that the more recent skulls were between two and nine per cent smaller.

The change in size could be linked to pollution and the reduction in sea ice which makes it more difficult for the bears to find food.

We all know the effects that our pollution is having on us, but these polar bears are innocent victims of our behaviour. They don’t deserve this treatment. So make a change today and save our bears.

However, this is completely untrue. It is the small changes we make that make a big difference because if everyone makes these small changes, they add together to have a massive effect on the future of our planet.

You can be green with almost anything these days. For every single thing you want to buy or do, there is usually a green option for you to choose. And this is even the case with clothes.

Leather-free shoes are readily available and you can even find bamboo clothing, made from organic and sustainable bamboo fibre.

So no excuses. Next time you go clothes shopping, think about your choice carefully. After all, green really suits you.
