The film is based based on a Tamil novel by Vasanthi. In Search of a Nest/ In whose nest - Meaning of KOODEVIDE Koodevide? won several State awards and also was selected to Indian Panorama. Rahman won Kerala State Film Award for Best Second actor and Sukumari for Best Second actress (1983). The film also won the award for Best Film with popular appeal and aesthetic value. Rahman after this debut film went ahead to become the dream boy of Malayalam film in the 1980s. A classic by Padmarajan.

Namukku parkkan munthiri thoppukal (Translation: Vineyards For Us To Dwell In) is a landmark film in Malayalam cinema directed by Padmarajan. The film is noted for its rich and detailed screenplay, expressive cinematography and flowing musical narration. It was released in November 1986 and is considered as one of the seminal works of the golden age of Malayalam films that lasted from the late 1980s until the early 1990s.

Namukku parkkan munthiri thoppukal is a warm and lyrical motion picture centered around Malayalee Syrian Christian-Nasrani life. It was based on the Malayalam novel Nammukku graamangalil chennu raappaarkkaam ("Let us go and dwell in the villages") by K. K. Sudhakaran (1986). The title of the film/novel is based upon a passage from Biblical book of The Song of Solomon or Song of Songs; Chapter 7:12. The Protagonist quotes this passage at one point during the movie. It starred Mohanlal, Shari, Thilakan, Vineeth, and Kaviyoor Ponnamma. The film is especially noted for the brilliant performance of Thilakan and also for the flowing and warm thematic music by Johnson an important South Indian composer(wikipedia).

This film by Adoor(tenth feature from him) is a tribute to the strength of Women. Unlike other Adoor films, Naalu Pennungal develops through four different stories by Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai, each distinct from the other with no apparent attempt to link them together. The film distills to a rare purity four tales of village women in south India. Their titles are elemental: The Prostitute, The Virgin, The Housewife and The Spinster.

In each, a woman submits to a role society decides for her. Each role offers a paradox of freedom and bondage in nearly equal measure.

The quartet ('Oru Niyamalanghanathinte Katha','Kanyaka','Chinnu Amma','Nityakanyaka')of these stories is set in a chronological order starting from the middle of 1940s to 1960s.Though all the four stories haven't any direct link, the director maintains feminism and sexual exploitation on women is the under current. Another important aspect of the film is that even the minor characters are portrayed with due importance. Watching Naalu pennungal is like reading four stories. This type of story narration is rare. The creaftmanship of the master director is evident through the way he link the stories with women as the central theme.I really enjoyed watching this movie. Even though this movie is commercially successful, may be due to the star cast, it is not the best film from Adoor. I guess... Expecting more from Adoor...Is he more obsessed with the past?.

Chokher Bali (literally translated to "sand in the eye", figuratively to "constant irritant") is a Bengali film adapted from Rabindranath Tagore's novel 'Binodini', where a beautiful, educated and vivacious young window Binodini forms the key character.

The story is set in the early 1900's against the backdrop of political resistance during the Bengal partition when the society is full of unrest. Binodini, the child widow played by Aishwarya Rai is out to wreak vengeance on the society, who she believes is responsible for her pitiful state of existence. She is with full of deceit and vileness inside her.

The film is a visual treat to the eyes. Shot mostly indoors inside a house with only one or two exceptions, the hues and shades of the relationships are cleverly depicted by excellent use of lighting. The director has looked into each and every minute detail and along with his art director Bibi Roy has depicted the era with perfection. But for the commoner the film may seem a bit too long and too overloaded with details. Background score by Debajyoti Mishra gels well with the mood of the film (webindia123.com)

In north Kerala, particularly in the Muslim community, girls are married off very early to prevent them from going 'astray'. Economically backward families opt for Mysore marriage – they give their daughters in marriage to unknown men from the neighbouring province of Mysore. The marital status or age of the groom is immaterial. Women have no say even in their own lives. TV Chandran throws light into the lives of those unfortunate girls through this movie.
This film is the story(set in Malappuram) of 15 year-old Shahina. She is very keen on continuing her studies, but is pushed into a marriage. For Razak, her husband, it is a marriage of convenience, another wife to slave for him and please him, and enough money to make it to the Gulf. Shahina breaks free, but the system eventually catches up with her.
The film is a wail, a wail for humanity and freedom.

Swathi Thirunal (1987), a period film by Lenin Rajendran is about the life and work of a 19th-century king of Travancore, better known for his musical compositions.

He reigned under the regency of his mother Maharani Gowri Lakshmi Bayi from 1813 till 1815 and henceforth under the regency of his aunt Maharani Gowri Parvati Bayi from 1815 till 1829. In 1829 he turned major and assumed full powers of ruler and ruled Travancore till his demise in 1846.Besides being an able ruler, he was a patron of music and a musician himself. He encouraged both broad systems of Indian music, Hindustani and Carnatic music, though he was essentially a connoisseur of the Carnatic music tradition. He is credited with composing over 400 compositions in Carnatic music as well as Hindustani music. Some of his favorite compositions are Padmanabha Pahi, Deva Deva, Sarasijanabha and Sree Ramana Vibho. The king was fluent in a number of languages such as Malayalam, Sanskrit, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Oriya and English.The Astronomical Observatory in Thiruvananthapuram, the Museum & Zoo, the Government Press, Trivandrum Public Library (now State Central Library), the Oriental Manuscript Library, etc. were started by Swathi Thirunal(wikipedia).
