Batarang on stand
leather jacket
art book
"doctor's manual" containing a guide to all the inmates at Arkham
and a huge Batsignal shaped case for all the goodies.

Currently installing the game now on my PS3, can't wait to start kicking bad guy's ass as the terror of the night, the Dark Knight! Also, there is a Play as the Joker add-on that is a PS3 exclusive that sounds really cool. Will have to try that after the main campaign.

Well that was until I saw Hot Toys Iron Man 12″ action figure, man does it looks good. I actually wanted to get the Mark III version but that was quite hard to find, so I decided to check out the Mark II. I somehow find myself liking the chrome color Iron Man rather than the hot rod red Iron Man and so here I am with my first Hot Toys action figure ^^.

2 Years and 10,000 Comments Later...

So before the previous version of DannyChoo.com gets taken down, I'll post this... even though my two year here isn't until the 31st.

I'm glad I found Danny's site that reflected on a lot of my tastes. I was surrounded by a few friends who knew anime, but not as much as the people in DC.com. And initially I started browsing around here because I can see what new anime is coming out the next season and other things. I was very behind on all sorts of anime news back then because I was playing World of Warcraft almost 16 hours a day!

As my urge to play WoW starts to wane I started to drift to this site... I may not have commented right away but, I started to get into it and now it is my new WoW. Thankfully it doesn't keep me in front of the computer for 16 hours a day which opened up my social life a little bit. Not too mention it doesn't require as much attention and commitment as WoW.

I began with my first comment... In that comment I wanted to make an interesting reply and maybe even show what I am into. But more and more comments keep coming and coming as more interesting news keep showing up! And I can't help but comment on anything interesting that I see, which didn't help when Member News/Stuff started! XD

After 2 years and 10,000 comments later, I can't really say anything too reflective like Tenrou. I am what I am and I don't have too much depth in my character, so my emotion is pretty much on the surface which is reflected in all of my comments. Ok maybe I tone myself down, but in reality that's how I really am.

So what do I do now? Retire? Go back to WoW? Start Diablo III or The Old Republic? Who knows... but for now this is where my comments go. I fell behind a few weeks ago but that never stopped me from commenting on anything interesting I saw here and I'll keep doing that unless something takes me away from all of this. And now I'm starting to rant and may incur the wrath of the "TL;DR"... So let's leave it at that. XD

Before I finish my rant though... What made you start commenting on any of these posts here on DannyChoo.com or Figure.fm? And if you are a serial commenter; why do you keep commenting?

BONUS: OVER 9000! (I wonder if Danny will increase the comment count ^^;)

Japanese highspeed steam train

Behold: a true engineering masterpiece from the past: the world fastest narrowgauge steam locomotive.

Yes, that's right. Japan owns the fastest narrowgauge steam locomotive. It's named JNR C62 and was built to run the Tsubame express on the Tōkaidō Main Line line (Tokyo-Osaka). In a way you can say that it was the Shinkansen of it's days. This is the biggest steam locomotive ever built in Japan.

A few numbers to give an idea of how huge this really is:
Length: 21,5 metres
Height: 4 metres
Width: I failed to find this but pixel counting in a picture gave me an estimate of 2,7-2,8 metres, which I guess isn't far off. Japan uses big narrowgauge trains.
Weight: 145 tons
I suspect that 総重量 means the weight of the locomotive, which is 89 tons and then the fully loaded tender would be 56 tons. The number radio fits other locomotives and 50-60 tons tenders were common.

Wheel arrangement: 4-6-4 Hudson or 2C2 (3 names telling the same thing)
Wheel size: 1,75 metres in diameter (add the height of the rail and imagine the size compared to people standing next to it!)

Boiler pressure: 16 kg/cm² (228 PSI or 15,7 bar). This is a high grade boiler as most boilers couldn't handle more than 12 kg/cm²

Fuel: (I couldn't find this so I state the numbers from a 55 tons tender since it's likely very close)
Coal: 6,5 tons
Water: 25 tons
Note: this is not even close to last from Tokyo to Osaka. It had to refuel several times to get there! I suspect they switched engines along the way to allow time to proper checkups and adding lube, which had to be done several times a day.

C62 was built in 1948-1949 and was used until 1973.

The record holder of 129 km/h (80 MPH) is C62 17 and this particular locomotive is on display today somewhere in Nagoya. I haven't figured out the specific location and based on pictures it appears that it's outside. This is really sad as steam locomotives deteriorate really fast when exposed to rain when they are cold. When they are hot the force through the funnel (chimney) is so strong that it keeps the water out so they can drive in rain.

So why this post all of a sudden. Well I read this survey and it turned out that there are twice as many Tetsudou (train otaku) here than idol otaku. That gave me the idea to make this post to see what happens because we have way more idol posts than train posts ^^

I was browsing through a website when I came across this...

(The following is taken directly from ThinkGeek.com I did not write it.)

Sure we've seen illuminated keyboards before, but then we saw the Luxeed Dynamic Pixel LED Keyboard and stopped looking. With 430 LEDs the Luxeed is capable of individually lighting each key in your choice of color. What's more it can do some amazing tricks like an animated rainbow across all the keys, or make each key light when you press it. You get four "preset" buttons above the arrow keys you can use to instantly choose between different customizable lit skin presets. Set-up a glowing skin for your favorite game with different colors to indicate each key action... or create illuminated patterns and designs. Hey, the Luxeed doesn't have a tiny screen on each key like the legendary Optimus Maximus, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Pick your Luxeed flavor of black or white. The keys of the white Luxeed have a semi-transparent look and light up more brightly than the black. However the black Luxeed has a stylish treatment with only the letters being illuminated. Both keyboards look the best in dim lighting of course. Optionally you can pick up the matching numeric keypad to match your Luxeed, but we do warn you that the keypad is functional only, its keys do not light up. Gotcha?

Here is a video of it in action.
(Sadly I don't know how to post it directly so here is a link you the video.) T_T

Monday Moe Musume - Dolls

Oissu, denizens of Dannychoo..

Today at Monday Moe Musume, we have a special double feature which is being co-written by comrade Belgarion. We'll be covering a rather niche archetype which has been rather limitedly portrayed in anime and manga but has always made a splash when ever it's brought up; Dolls. But what makes this little niche archetype special is usually how they're often portrayed, which is most often than not as the precious beings that they are for something about they carry, their purpose or, simply just, their being.

So to give a backgrounder on the relationship most protagonists end up having with the so-called "Dolls" archetype, only one word sums it up: "Ojou". By definition, it literally means "princess". Commonly though in anime and manga, Ojou or "Ojou-sama" as they are addressed are rich, are treated high up in the social order and highly respected. I'll be expounding on that on a future post, and so you may ask, what "Ojou-sama" has to do with Dolls? Well it's how they are treated. Particularly when the story revolves around them. Take for example Chii from Chobits. She is most often than not babied by Hideki, not that he has much of a choice, but you get the idea.

Ok, so now you ask, what makes a doll? For that, I turn you over to comrade Belgarion.

(″･ิ_･ิ)っ (｡◕‿‿◕｡)[Insert cheesy introduction here] d^_^b

The subject of the Doll archetype is an extremely vast and interesting one. It can hardly be described with just a few sentences and frankly said, it would be a shame to try and do so here.

This particular archetype does not see enough attention in modern day anime, if anywhere, most unfortunatelly. Only a few series dare feature them, be it as a main, secondary, round, or flat character. Although in the rare cases when they appear, for one reason or another, for the whole part fail to disappoint.

To not misunderstand the archetype we are featuring, a few examples and differences must be made and pointed out, as to make a difference between the Rozen Maiden Dolls and say Yin from Darker Than Black, to name a pair.

The one we are focusing on looks less like a Doll on the outside, but more a Doll on the inside. The whole concept of the Doll we are going to closely analyze, is that of an artificial human, designed to obey everything their master commands. Once nothing but a dream of robots doing everyday chores and homework instead of you, seen everywhere in early science fiction, has in these cases gained a human look, and something else we are going to stop on further down....

A common mistake is to link the emotionless, quiet girl archetype with the Doll one. A good example for that would be Ayanami Rei and Nagato Yuki, from Evangelion and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya respectively. To steer clear of spoilers, we will analyze only Yuki , who despite having a lot of the common traits, carries no Doll "personality " if you will. As the series progresses, it becomes clear that in spite her lack of apparent feelings and emotions, Yuki is a warm, caring and kind-hearted girl. It could be said that Yuki and Asakura are inversions of this trope. Yuki appears emotionless and coldly logical, while her inner workings are clearly fighting in the other direction.

The above is, however not entirely true, if looked at through a different prospective. If we take and start comparing Chii in the earlier episodes of Chobits and Nagato Yuki; one of the fundamental differences would be their time being active, if you will. Let us take any arc or series, featuring a Doll from beginning to end (Lets say Chobits, Haruhi Suzumiya and the Darker Than Black 3 episode doll featuring arc) we are sure to notice, that as the story progresses, in all the anime, visual novels, games that I have seen Dolls being featured in, sooner or later, they develop emotions; interests; preferences. All human traits are in a way adapted by the doll, making the archetype a million times more interesting and attractive. In this case, Nagato Yuki has been on standby for a very long time, while Chii has just been activated and knows nothing of the world.(Here is a good spot to take small detour and explain the Difference between a newly activated Doll, and Nia from TTGL, if you will. The similarities would mainly revolve around them both being oblivious to the outside world, and the differences in experience with emotions.) Be it love, hate, or pure interest, the dolls from Haruhi Suzumiya, Time of Eve and Darker than Black, just to name a few, against their original purpose and raison d'être grace the eyes and hearts of all watching and participating - be them 2 or 3 dimensional. So ridding Yuki of the obvious qualities of a Doll that are at hand, might in the end prove to be a matter of perspective...

From there rises one of the infamous society barriers, risen by middle aged people with just enough time in their hands and brain in their heads to waste their time questioning people's preferences and ravaging them from several rights; it is one thing for Dolls to develop human like characteristics, but a whole other matter is how humans respond to them: Love.

The love between people and androids or Dolls, whichever helps your blood pressure stay normal, be it in the fictional, or real world, is a matter most commonly opposed by society. A good example, on a large scale can easily be found in android researching and different coffee brand testing anime Eve no Jikan (mentioned above as Time of Eve). People who are fond of their loving and caring androids, in the case, be it sexually or in a romantic way, are horridly ridiculed by society, marked as low sick scum and the like... (me thinks a point
of comparison would be that of condensed milk - coffeebugg)

Eve no Jikan trailer

In Darker Than Black, Kenji, who wanted to run away with his beloved Doll, believed that he was the only one who could truly make her happy. He had no money, no plan, nothing and would have to run and hide for the rest of his life. He would have problems finding shelter, a job and leaving her alone... But by putting all that behind and believing that the Doll is not a thing or a doll - but a girl., he suddenly, made her more a human than any other for him - she was loved by somebody.

Hate and apathy. Again taking Eve no Jikan for a marvelous example, as well as the above mentioned arc from DTB, we can observe the typical(or should we say original) way for people to treat their Dolls and perhaps all things material. By letting an object take a human form, many are unable to appreciate their true beauty, regard them as a real human being, though in a completely different way. Treating them like cat dump, they augment their self proclaimed self esteem. The very important part to note here, is their human look. Originally their raison d'être, this way of appreciating someone who if loved will love back truly proves to be an eyesore ...

The process of Dolls receiving human like characteristics and then the way humans respond to them is indeed one of the most beautiful in anime history.

--------------------------
And so.. thanks to comrade Bel for bringing this very interesting topic to light. I for one have never been much knowledgable of such doll archetype, and most often than not nofused them with either the silent ones or the innocent angel types.

Many people thinks these are just body pillow printed with anime character only. For many otaku, its a thing that can settle their feelings and loneliness .

Every time i get to sleep and i fell lonely, she always there, she got a feel of existence , let you to be calm.

So, what's the feeling when hugging your precious dakimakura, do they let you feel save and calm when lonely?

Gundam Zabaniya, Lyle’s unit. The Zabaaniyah are the gardians of Hell in the Qur’an. Looks like a close-combat unit. It has a slim torso and big legs like the Virtue. It carries a “GN Armor lite” on its back.Main weapon : Double hand gun.

Gundam Raphael, Tieria’s unit. See the Archangel Raphael. It has wired cannons in its fingers (like the Belphegor Gundam) and 4 cannons on its shoulders.
