For the first time, went for Singapore's National Day Parade (NDP in short) to witness it LIVE, on the final rehearsal at The Merlion as well as the actual day at Marina Boulevard, after considering this place has a better view for fireworks.

Headed down to Good Morning Nanyang Cafe on the morning of Hari Raya holiday last week. Tired of having normal traditional kaya toast roti (bread) with kopi and eggs? Perhaps you will like the breakfast here: combination of East and West makan style.

Credits to Leslie Tay's popular food blog ieatishootipost and his Facebook Fan Page, got to know that there's 50% discount on all set meals on the morning of that day. Chee Seong's (my uni buddy) vote of confidence on the food here raised my level of interest to come here to savor its set meals.

lim (drink in Hokkien) Kopi...a must for me when having breakfast in my hometown Ipoh. Sweet and smooth with minor bitter aftertaste, not bad!

This is what I called East meet West: Orange Ciabatta Toast with homemade Kaya. Ciabatta is an Italian white bread made with wheat flour and yeast. Soft but crispy, total different feel from normal kaya roti toast! Signature meal of the cafe, must try!

Chee Seong mentioned to me that I should also try their Thick Toast, which is equally good. Hence, during the weekend, went down there with Chee Seong and Siew Hong for evening tea time there again. Not many people at the mall, but it was full house inside the cafe.

Different from what I thought, the thick toast here is covered with a thick layer of kaya spread instead with peanut butter and honey that I eat normally. 正!

Met ieat's Leslie and Nanyang's boss Byron! Have a great time chit chat with both of them :)

As Chinatown Point is going to have major renovations from October 2011, Byron mentioned that he needs to source for alternative location after the lease ends on 30th September 2011. Any places to recommend? Hope to be somewhere Central or along MRT lines, as can serve as a gathering place for makan kakis from North South East West, aha!

After having dinner with Di Ming and De Zien yesterday night at Bukit Batok, while the night is still young, grabbed my gadgets out from the house to have some night photoshoots around Raffles Place.

Starting the journey around Fullerton Hotel - Maybank area. As usual, Friday night is happening there. Live band from Timbre @ The Arts House can be heard across the river, yeah can listen songs while taking photos, ahaa...

Tanjong Pagar Railway Station: The Finale

30th June 2011, Thursday, a normal working day.

But at a place in Tanjong Pagar, people flocking into Tanjong Pagar KTM Railway Station to witness the historic moment: its last day of operation. The station has been permanently ceased from 01st July 2011 and no KTM services into Singapore anymore in the future. As the last passenger train was scheduled to leave at 10pm & Sultan of Johor will drive very last train from Tanjong Pagar at 11pm, people of all ages, reporters and photographers gathered here since early evening time.

I think Tanjong Pagar has not been so crowded before, at least for a decade.

First time using my DSLR for car show event. Held at Singapore Expo last weekend, it was an opportunity to improve my photography skills on portrait shoots.

Pardon me for only taking photos on their weapons (racing cars I meant) as the queue for live drifting demo was way too long, but mainly also because I enjoyed photo-shooting with the racing queens in indoor Hall 5.

Recently, thanks to my buddies, we have regular Sunday session to play sports at NTU Sports & Recreation Centre, once in a while to destress ourselves from our working or business agendas. Also got chance to meet back NTU juniors, to have a game and breakfast together.

Yes, I brought my new 550D during the recent Sunday game. The weather was initially quite cloudy as the rain was just stopped in early morning, but became better then.

Boxing Day Outing: Explore The Southern Ridges

Have been thinking of going Southern Ridges since 2 years ago (yup, No Action, Think / Talk Only a.k.a. NATO), until the recent Boxing (Sun)Day, gathered a few friends & photo-kakis to go there for the first time. The Southern Ridges is a 9-kilometre trail that connects parks along the southern ridge of Singapore, connecting parks between West Coast Park & Harbour Front. Some attractions along this trail are not to be missed, which include its greenery & connecting bridges.

Preparing our gadgets...

I planned to start our journey from Kent Ridge Park. As such, we board public Bus 200 from the bus stop opposite Buona Vista MRT, alighted 6 stops later. The entrance of Kent Ridge Park via Vigilante Drive is just a few footsteps away, beside it is the National Leadership Institute.

We chose to walk from West to East, hence our journey were as follows:

Kent Ridge Park -> Reflection at Bukit Chandu -> Canopy Walk -> Flora Walk & Hort Park -> Alexandra Arch -> Forest Walk -> Hilltop Walk -> Henderson Wave -> Faber Walk -> Marang Trail -> Vivo City for lunch.

The paths along the trail are mostly disabled-friendly and equipped with signboards, so posed no problem to find out the routes for first-timers like us.

Even Japanese also know how to explore the trail...

Walked through the Alexandra Arch, a very solid 80-metre long bridge. Very unique architecture, it looks like an opened leaf across Alexandra Road, with its curved deck intersecting an arch that is tilted at a 70-degree angle.

Saw a family of monyets (monkeys) at Forest Walk, one of them even peeing in front of us, yeee...Note the Elevated Walkway along the Walk, accessed by the metal bridge. These triangular metal gratings on the floors of the walkway were an inspiration from the triangular-shaped leaves of the fast-growing “Mile-a-Minute” plant that grows freely in the forest.

Here's another highlight of the journey: The Henderson Wave, 274 metres long, 36 metres above Henderson Road. It's the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore, connecting both Telok Blangah Hill Park and Mount Faber Park. Shelters between the bridge served as temporary pit stops for us to rest a while...

...but not during rains, haha...

After 4 hours of fruitful journey, we concluded our trip with lunch at Food Republic Vivo City. Aha, a great Sunday to sweat a bit, exercise our muscles and mix around with friends!!!

There are other interesting forest areas in Singapore that I haven't explored into, such as Bukit Timah Forest Reserve, Sungai Buloh Wetland Reserves, MacRitchie & Bedok Reservoir, Pulau Ubin, etc. Hemm, entering a good year of 2011, must invest some time wisely with friends to explore more the hidden treasures of Singapore (as well as to sharpen my photography skills)!!! :)

Xmas Makan Outing @ Bugis & Orchard

Working life is so busy till I often heard......

"原来大学生活是那么的写意的!"

"Sigh...always OT, but no OT pay..."

So, for those who are still studying, appreciate your study life and friends around you. Once you are in working world, your time might be occupied with work, bonding among friends not as strong as during school time due to various commitments, etc.

That's why a week ago, organized Makan & Xmas gathering (Makan! That's what I like to organize during university time) around Bugis & Orchard area with university mates, especially now is holiday season & exams were over, it's time to gather around & celebrate!

Rui Yang suggested to have dinner at Xin Yuan Ji 新源记 as this restaurant sells famous Fish Head / Meat Soup 鱼头炉. Long queues can be seen whenever the shop is open, especially lunch & dinner time, so we arrived early (around 6pm on Sunday) to avoid the crowds.

It's situated at Tan Quee Lan Street, just opposite Bugis Junction, easily accessible from Bugis MRT.

Next thing is to taste famous Ah Chew Desserts 阿秋甜品 at Liang Seah Street, the street nearby before taking public bus to Orchard, enjoying Christmas decoration.

Parents come to Singapore!

My family members came down to Singapore weeks ago to visit me as well as to get to feel Christmas celebration in Singapore, especially my sister who was the first time travelling out from Malaysia. They started the journey to the South by joining Resorts World Sentosa tour, which includes to and fro Ipoh & Singapore via excursion bus, tour around Resorts World Sentosa, $20.00 worth of chips for you to play around the casino, $10.00 lunch meal voucher and boat tour around Singapore River...guest how much for this one day travel package? Just RM58.00!!! I was stunned as it was a real great deal (fyi, taking normal bus trip between Ipoh - Singapore will easily cost you RM40.00 & above)!

As they are coming for a 3 days 2 nights trip, so I booked Strand Hotel family room with 2 queen sized bed. Met them after the end of Singapore River tour. Clean and spacious, with sports and movie channels available. Recommended as the hotel is also within city area, 5-10 minutes walking distance to Orchard Road shopping belt, Bugis Street & National Museum of Singapore, 24-hours Kopitiam food court & 7-11 just right opposite the hotel, and Bras Basah MRT station, bus stops, cabs are all around. S$240/night incl. tax & breakfast for 4 person, I think it's a great deal for family vacations.

My family members enjoyed the trip very much and for me, its a very good self-recharge trip as I haven't rest much since coming back from the Cruise trip in September, busy with my job & business.

Year 2010 is going to an end, have you reviewed what you've achieved in past one year? Start to reflect back on yourself and plan for Year 2011? For me, I foresee lots of meaningful achievements and breakthroughs will happen in 2011.

Don't Think of Failure - Michael Jordan

I never look at the consequences of failing, because when you think about the consequences, you always think of a negative result.

If I am jumping into any situation. I am thinking I'm going to be successful - not about what happens if I fail.

Some people get frozen by fear of failure by thinking about the possibility of a negative result. They might be afraid of looking bad or being embarrassed. I reallised that if I was going to achieve anything in life, I had to be aggressive. i had to get out there and go for it. I don't believe you can achieve anything by being passive.

I know fear is an obstacle for some people, but to me it's an illusion. Any fear is an illusion . You think something is standing in your way, but nothing is there - only an opportunity to do your best and gain some success.

If it turns out my best isn't good enough, then at least I will never be able to look back and say I was too afraid to try. Maybe I just didn't have it. Maybe I just wasn't good enough. There's nothing wrong with that and nothing to be afraid of either. Failure always made me try harder the next time.

My advice is ," Think positive, and find fuel in failure. "

Sometimes, failure gets you closer to where you want to be. The greatest invention in the world had hundreds of failures before answers were found.

Fear sometimes comes from a lack of focus or concentration. If you know you are doing the right things, just relax and perform. Forget about the outcome. You can't control anything anyway.

When you make a presentation in business, you may do all the things necessary, but then it's out of your hands. Either the clients like the presentation, or they don't. It's up to the client or the buyer. So don't worry about it.

I can accept failure. Everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying. It doesn't matter if you win as long as you give everything in your heart and work at it 110 percent. If you put in the work, the results will come. I can't do things half heartedly , because I know if I do, then I can expect half hearted results. That's why I approach practices the same way as I approach games. I can't dog it during practice and then, when I need that extra push late in the game, expect it to be there.

But that's how a lot of people approach things. And that's why they fail. They sound like they are committed to being the best they can be. They say all the right things, make all the proper appearances. But they are looking for reasons instead of answers.

Initially, took one day off to JB (Johor Bahru in short, the Southern Capital of West Malaysia) to renew my International Passport for another 5 years - my passport going to end in May next year. However, due to festive and year end season, long vehicle queues at Malaysia JB checkpoint were expected (attributed to 'smart' temporary road design), but didn't expect that the queue numbers for passport renewal application have already been issued out before noon time!!! Just like selling like hot cakes!

Waiseh, coming so far but couldn't get the passport renewed, I can't go back to Singapore empty-handed what! What should I do??? Haha, pampered myself a few hours at City Square (CS) in the middle of busy JB city :)

Went to one of my favourite HK-themed restaurant, Kim Gary for lunch. Situated at basement level of City Square, Kim Gary is a restaurant for all: couples, friend gatherings, families, lunch with colleagues, etc. with great choices of meals, can said as 老少咸宜 in Chinese. That's why as usual, Kim Gary is packed with people but since I'm alone, no problem in getting a seat :)

One thing is I want to suggest is that the management should consolidate the menus & order sheets into a template once in a while, so I won't get fainted even before I make orders, hahaha... See, does it like a stack of tutorial notes with lots of colorful highlights?

After looking through the menus, I decided to order this: Fish Fillet with Sweet Corn Cream Sauce served with Spaghetti, together with a cup of Cream Soup and HK-style Tea.

The Cream Soup. Came in a cute small cup after 10+ minutes of waiting, okay with the taste.

Fish Fillet with Sweet Corn Cream Sauce served with Spaghetti. It tasted a bit bland if just eat spaghetti alone, but it mixed well with the fish fillet, which was fried with egg mixture. Just like in Hong Kong, the portion of the meal was quite big indeed.

The Tea in Hong Kong-style. Best to savour slowly after the main meal. At this point of time, my stomach was getting full and halted my decision to further order their popular toast bread T_T...and also because I've bought Secret Recipe cake earlier, also at the same floor as Kim Gary.

A must-do to eat Secret Recipe when back in Malaysia, because of the more expensive price back in Singapore. Wanted to eat before Kim Gary's meal was served, but being told that "no outside food is allowed inside the restaurant", but when I finished my meal, my stomach too full d...aikss...

So actually what I ordered from Secret Recipe? Instead of Chocolate Banana, Cappuccino Cheese, Chocolate Chip Walnut and Chocolate Indulgence that I used to order often, this time I tried something different. Not bad actually and I enjoyed it after browsing through books and stationaries at Popular Bookstore at upper floors of City Square.

Apple Crumble Cheesecake by Secret Recipe! RM6.60 takeaway with 5% GST. Satisfied with the food that I have this afternoon :) but then, spent an hour queuing at Singapore Woodland custom for immigration clearance on the way back to Singapore, sweat...

Why I'm Not Blogging for a Long Long Time

People might ask me why I'm not updating the blog since October 2009, as now coming to an end of November, almost a month since the last post about Bak Kut Teh competing in Taiwan's Best Trip Competition, and now, they won the competition with TWD$1Million !!! Congrats!

Why I not updating my blog? There's sure a reason of why.

Because I kena summoned a few weeks back and received a Notice of Offence. Till now, I'm not sure why I received it.

Then how? Hide myself somewhere in Singapore, not blogging as to avoid spy or undercover to trace me via I.P. address or where I stay at, yup, keep myself low profile, precisely.

But in the end, still kena caught...for ignoring the Crime of Ignore!

Later I realised it's a Nissan commercial publicity and it is organizing a cash giveaway competition. :)

A Rojak Update

Since I started my job in early August, my life became busier, and pardon me for not updating my blog, my HK trip for a long long time. Hak...hak.......chiu, dust is stacking inches by inches on my blog page, so need to do some clean up first, so not much photos a...

So, how's my a normal working day looks like?

7.20-7.25am Wake up after N times of snoozing my handphone alarm alert.

7.25-7.35am Wash up, put my working clothes (sounds so formal, actually my dressing is just polo-T with long pants, haha)...

7.35am Leave house & try to reach Chinese Garden MRT by 7.45am...emm, which means walking for 10 mins.

7.45-7.50am Get onboard on MRT towards Yio Chu Kang.Most of the time, I'll sleep all the way to YCK.

~8.30am See, although Singapore is a small island, time taking for MRT to run from West to North Singapore can be quite long. Reach Yio Chu Kang station, go to the bus stop & wait for company shuttle bus to come at 8.35am. The bus service comes at every 10 minutes. Without this service, I'll need to walk for 15 minutes + several litres of sweat will be vaporized into the air.

9am Start work!

12-1pm Makan! Lunch time! Either take away at company's cafeteria or food centre opposite my company.

6pm Finish work! But most of the time, I'll follow up my job & leave company around 7-8pm. Again, sleep in the train on the journey back to the West.

Between 9-10pm Reach at home, rest & bath.

10.30pm & beyond Rest, then do surveys on product packaging information. I've been helping a Master student in NTU on product packaging infos, eg: nutrition information, 3rd party seals, etc. Have been doing this since July as that time I haven't found a job, this assignment offers me some allowances.

12.00-1.00am ZzZzZzzz...

How about weekends? Besides rushing the product info assignment, I frequent go back to NTU to find friends & stay overnight in the hostel...or should I say short weekend vacation at NTU? Haha.

Next time I'll post more on my job...or perhaps you can take a look via this link. My company is hiring people now, interested? An interesting and very exciting job I should say, where you can talk with different people with different personalities. Sounds cool huh? :)

My Convocation!

I shall start my convocation post with appreciation to my family and friends for their continuous support throughout my four year journey in NTU.

Together, we are not alone.

The end of the undergraduate life can be felt since early this year, where I joined NTU Malaysian Alumni Night at NTU One-North campus, mingled around with alumnis and friends...so fast become part of the alumni already.

This is the first time alumni gathering among Malaysians was organized and it was quite successful.

On 28th July 2009, I am graduated! My graduation ceremony was scheduled in the morning together with other Electrical and Electronic Engineering students. As the population of EEE students are large (should be the largest among NTU schools), the ceremony for EEE undergraduates is divided into 2 sessions: surname A-M in morning, N-Z in the afternoon. So, mine in morning!

Me and my certification of course completion as Bachelor of Engineering.

Received plenty of wishes and congratulations from friends and families, be it face to face, Facebook, MSN, blog, phone, SMS, etc. :) Thanks!

Arr, it has been around 2 weeks since the last post, because have been busy recently on part time jobs and interviews as well as...a bit lazy.

Time flies, it's the period where graduating students are waiting for: Convocation! This marks the end of study life for most of the students (some may choose to study for postgraduate courses) and the beginning life of working life. Some would think that "Ah, no more exams!!!", but do aware that more challanges are waiting for you in future o: careers, family, etc. For me, I will miss my school life a lot: busy with ECAs and projects, soak myself in the sea of TVB series, etc.

This is a 2-month contract job as Online Store Customer Service Representative, helping customers on pre- or post-sales through phone calls. Sounds easy, but could be challenging as different customers could have different demands and requests. Hope to perform well in this job and if given opportunity, hope can seek for long term employment with Apple! :) Also happy to know that some of my friends also got this offer! And more and more are getting jobs! Congratulations! *hand claps*

And by the way, I will continue my story-tellings (or long-winded stories?) on my Hong Kong trip, got Ocean Park, the Peak, Stanley, etc, soon. Sorry for keep you guys waiting! Here are some sneak previews on my coming posts!

My university convocation ceremony is scheduled to be at the end of this month, and my dad and mum will be travelling down to Singapore to attend it. But earlier last month, I have bought myself the graduation gown. As not all of my family members are coming to Singapore to attend the convo, I brought my convo gown home to have a pre-convocation phototaking with my family...last week :)
