Realize you haven’t eaten, peed, or talked to a human being in 3 days.

Early mornings.

Late nights.

More coffee.

Try to do all things & be all things to all people.

Realize you’re making it way harder than it needs to be.

Finally find your thing.

Break through.

Sound familiar?

Except for the part where you “find your thing?”

And “break through?”

Right?

However…

Success has probably been ‘right under your nose’ the whole time…

Sorta like..

When you are looking for your sunglasses…

And they were on your head…

The entire time!

So what if, in just 15 days…

You can put to rest all the sleepless nights.

And learn the blueprint created by a 7-figure online biz legend who's...

- Been featured in Forbes & Entrepreneur

- Endorsed by Shark, Kevin Harrington

- Sold over $220m of my his own products online

And…

You finally turn your breakdowns into breakthroughs?

Well, here's my proposition.

Actually…

It’s a challenge!

Starting in 2001 & in years to follow Hip-Hop began to see a resurgence of "Beefs"; But those were just major distractions to what the true beef was - this may be the actual issue behind the Tupac Biggie East Coast West Coast Beef.- mainstream versus underground. Up until the 99 & the 2000's, rappers used the underground scene as a way to get into the record industry in order to achieve mainstream success. In short, the underground scene was a road to the mainstream success. The underground rappers were also looking forward to creating independent record labels like they had began to see mainstream rappers do. During this time period of 1999-2000, what was thought to be mainstream success was rapidly changing & evolving into something undesirable to the underground scene. Over this time period, Hip-Hop music would go from underground & mainstream being seen as a bridge to success, to underground & mainstream being seen as a table that divides Hip-Hop artist by what they define as success.

I would have to look back and say, that by end of 2001, the term mainstream had been transformed into commercial. Before that time, the goal of the underground rapper was to go mainstream not to become a "commercial rapper". To break this down a little, in short, going mainstream meant that you would be able to expand your audience. I have to briefly explain that the initial "underground rap" idea was to make Hip-Hop similar to how professional sports work; with the underground circuit being like the college sports association of "mainstream rap". I will even compare open mics & rap battles to high school sports & traveling youth sports teams. The basic idea was to use open mics & rap battles to bring rappers into the underground circuit. The rapper would make an underground album & tour the underground circuit with aspirations of getting some form of attention or entrance into mainstream Hip-Hop. The goal was not to obtain women, jewelry, cars, & endorsement deals - it was to be able to get more fans & sell more albums, therefore being able to make real money. With that in mind, during the year 2001, it had become clear that, if you aspired to be a mainstream rapper, you would have to be a commercial rapper.

The true beef was that, to become a commercial rapper would mean the rapper has to transform his subject matter to rapping predominantly about trends, fads, mentioning certain products & promoting a certain type of lifestyle. Of course, most, if not all, of those things would be contrary or the total opposite of how they were in the underground circuit. The unspoken truth is that the major record labels were not the ones behind pushing the commercial rapper agenda; It was the sublabels, that went after the endorsements & started promoting a certain type of lifestyle in order to take advantage of the artist by offering them women, jewelry & cars so that they could keep larger portions of the money that would be coming into their sublabel. FYI: sublabels would be an "Independent" label that is ran/controlled/funded by a major label. A truer form of an independent label would be when the major label is used predominately for distribution of music.

The underground rappers took a hard stance that they would be noncommercial and use the underground circuit as a road to start independent labels. In opposition, the mainstream rappers made it clear that mainstream rap was commercial rap & would make underground rap seem obsolete. The mainstream rappers held a view that they were just evolving with the times & that this was how rappers get real money in the 21st century. The underground rappers were determined to show that you can still be underground and make real money as an independent artist & did not view the commercialization of Hip-Hop as evolution but as a bastardization of the art form. The underground was completely ignored by the mainstream. In return, the underground used that as a way to discredit the mainstream & obtain supportive fans for independent Hip-Hop artist. On the other hand, the mainstream rappers started beefs with one another, in order to make that appear to be what the tension in Hip-Hop was about. An even bigger slap in the face of the underground rappers were mainstream rappers making their beefs appear to be about "what real Hip-Hop was". This all made it seem as if it was not an independent underground rapper vs mainstream commercial rapper thing but about who the current rappers of the future, of that time, are, all while leaving the underground rapper & rap scene out of the equation.

Now during the 9-9 & the 2000, there was an underground rapper that had made his way to the mainstream to become one of the most popular rappers out. This rapper was to show that the road to Hip-Hop stardom is by going through the open mic, battle rap, underground, to mainstream path to rap success. This was to, supposedly, set the standard for what a real rap lyricist should consist of; A way of making it through the ranks to prove your skill & add legitimacy to the title of a being considered a "major rap artist". The true issue was that this underground to mainstream rapper was not commercially acceptable, which could lead to mainstream rappers not being viewed as prospects for endorsements & sponsorship in the future. The true beef being the feeling that in the 21st century the transition of going mainstream was to be a transition into being a commercial rapper, oppose to the feeling that the 21st century rap artist would come from the underground as a stamp of authenticity representing what is the up & coming of Hip-Hop. To break it down further, the issue was, is the rapper the trend versus does the rapper set the trend - should rappers that come from the underground circuit be the trend or should a mainstream artist lifestyle set the trend. So the underground put the middle finger up to the mainstream vowing to never compromise their music by becoming a commercial rapper, putting their focus on becoming independent rap artists. In response, the mainstream rappers would go on to use beefs to create controversy to draw attention to mainstream Hip-Hop music. Then they would bring on talented rappers to the mainstream knowing that this would keep their music from being heard since they would not want to do the "commercial rapper thing". The talented rappers would never get their music released by the mainstream labels & that eliminated most of the opposition to commercial rap - this narrowed the spectrum of Hip-Hop music & artist.

What it really did was leave the underground market wide open because it seemed so undesirable; But that also made the underground circuit available for the many people who were pushed aside by mainstream & commercial rap. A whole new fan base entered the underground circuit as well as different financial opportunities for underground rappers. In my opinion, the underground circuit took advantage of having, arguably, the best rapper out at that time stand up against the commercialization of Hip-Hop by being everything the mainstream was not. Meanwhile, the mainstream rappers, & the newly formed rap industry, had a war over which type of commercial rapper would get the endorsements. That spewed over into the following two years (2002-2003) where the battle was the "soft rappers" versus the "street rappers". In short, the victory was won by the mainstream commercial rappers that were considered to be "street" or "hood" - this is why showing some sort of street credibility is all but required for a rapper to enter mainstream Hip-Hop even today, 20 years later. Marketers, advertisers, sponsors & endorsers had made a decision to use Hip-Hop as a major part of their industry back in 2000 & were going to start using rap & Hip-Hop regardless of who the rappers were. It was the rappers of that time (2000-2003), not the record industry, that were determined to have all the rappers considered "street" (also to make people think street/hood/thug was the same as underground). If I have not made it clear I will right now, the big rap beef of that 2002-2003 timeframe was really about mainstream rappers not missing out on the new money being poured into Hip-Hop because they were not commercially acceptable - like that popular underground rapper, who took over Hip-Hop, that I mentioned in the prior paragraph. Mainstream rappers wanted all the rappers seen as a not commercially acceptable so that there was no preference of the rapper based on the type of music they made & thinking back you should remember how rappers "went soft" in 2001-2002 & then when the war was over in 2003 they all went to "thug rap". I'm not naming names but I will say that groups like 'The Nappy Roots', 'St Lunatics' & 'Smiles & South Star' were "softer", more commercially acceptable & newer mainstream rappers that were starting to get the endorsements over the more popular names of that time. I point that out to say that those groups and type of rappers had the money snatched away from them because of the soft rappers vs street rappers beef.

So what happened with the new underground rap? Well in turn, all of that actually stopped the shift to more friendly & positive Hip-Hop music that started in 2000 & early 2001. The underground scene greatly benefitted from the mainstream beefing. It became the place where rappers could be whatever type of artist the wanted to be & find their audience by being authentic. This has resulted in underground rappers making the real money from selling music & merchandise at shows without the need of a record label, sponsors or endorsements. They also started independent record labels that had their own recording studios - so where the mainstream shut the underground out is where they did things on their own, without a record label controlling their music, message or image. To contrast, the underground rappers did not have to make music in order to pay back for expenses incurred making & performing music & money that was loaned to them; The mainstream rappers had to accept the fact, whether they liked it or not, that they had to make a certain type of music & display a certain image in order to be part of the newly formed rap industry. Again, this new rap industry was formed by they popular rappers & producers of that timeframe of 2001-2004. It was sort of an NWO of Hip-Hop where the thug style rappers took over & made everyone join them or leave. This was all the rappers except for the clear losers of the war & that popular rapper that came from the underground circuit.

To Be Continued...

Artist Highlight: Rachelle Farrell & Will Downing

Originally posted Dec 19th, 2008

Since we no longer get to experience real Rhythm and Blues music any more I'll highlight some artist who can "Sho'nuff Sang". I'm Starting with two artist who have amazing vocal range.

First there's Rachelle Farrell, who touts a 6 octive vocal range. If this means nothing to you, let me put it in perspective. There are 88 keys on a piano and she can sing 72 of them, she can sing Barry White and Minnie Ripleton notes.

Y'know what just check out this Live performant by her below.

Next we have Will Downing. Another not so known singer but he has been at it for years and has many albums as reference. He is most know for being able to sing any song in his baritone voice. Here take a listen below.

that have occured to the music industry. I remember when rapper use to get
singers on their songs to make them hot. Now its the other way around, singers
look for rappers to get on their songs in order to get radio play and exposure.
HOW did this happen? NOT only that, but the music itself has conformed to this.
Rappers use to rap over R&B music to broaden thier audience, now that MUSIC
is gone. EVERYTHING NOW IS A BEAT... not music and there is a difference. They
are even singing over the beats now. Like the Beyonce song "single ladies" there
is no music, its just a beat. Is whats out there today really R&B? Why do I
say R&B died in 2001? Well thats the last year R&B dominated the charts,
so lets look at the Albums of 2001. Most of these albums at least went platinum,
a lot were multi-platinum.

Jennifer Lopez, J.Lo, released January 22, 2001
- I know, not the first name that comes to mind when you think of R&B but
you can not deny 4 million copies was great for R&B and Pop music.

Singles:

Love Don't Cost a Thing

Play

Aint It Funny

I'm Real (both versions)

- Also was he 1st year on the mainstream music scene and did it without much
radio play. I personally like this album the best from 2001. I guess she was
widely known for being nominated for the most grammys without winning one.

Singles:

Video

Brown Skin

Strength, Courage, and Wisdom

Ready for Love

- His first album not produced exclusively by Timberland but still was a success
and the heels of that song that went,
"my whole life has changed, since you came in, I knew back then, you were that
special one, I'm so in love, so deep in love."

My memory from this album is the song
"Would You Mind" - Janet the answer is NO, I would not mind if you, loved me
touched me teased me...

Singles:

Doesn't Really Matter

All For You

Someone To

itsself, was not so great but Case did get his biggest hit ever from this
project.
"Like a cold Summer afternoon,Like the snow coming down in June,Like a
wedding without a groom,I'm missing you..."

personal favorite but it was/is R&B, sort of. I cant deny the success
either.

Singles:

Survivor

Independant Women

Bootylicious

Emotion

Nasty Girl

Tyrese, 2000 Watts, released May 22, 2001 - The numbers for
this album was modest but Tyrese has never gotten much radio play, you just have
to know him and appreciate him as an artist. He usually only make 1 good
radio/video song.

Singles:

I Like Them Girls

What Am I Gonna Do

Just a Baby Boy

was arguably the best R&B album of 2001, this was Keys debut and she took
the industry by storm.

Singles:

Fallin

A Woman's Worth

How Come You Don't Call

reluctant to add this to the list, seeing that this album was the "new" R&B.
I can't hate though, it was/is? R&B still and it was a moderately sucessfull
album, from Brandy's Brother.

Singles:

Wait a Minute

Formal Invite

Luther Vandross, Luther Vandross, released June 19, 2001 - We
seen the old school crooner update himself a tad bit on this album - not vintage
Luther but he showed he could still hang

Singles:

Take You Out

I'd Rather

Jagged Edge, Jagged Little Thrill, released July 3, 2001 -
This album probably did well on the heels of their previous album(J.E.
Heartbreak), when it debuted at number 3 on billboard charts. Yet and still it
was a great R&B album.

Singles:

Where the Party at

Goodbye

IMx, IMx, released July 3, 2001 - Was not a fan of this group
or album but that song "First Time" was the ish, so I'll give them a pass.

Single:

First Time

Aaliyah, Aaliyah, released July 17, 2001 - Sadly the last
album she'd ever make; Even sadder he album was doing terrible until she died.

Singles:

We Need a Resolution

Rock the Boat

More Than a Woman

I care 4 U

album. It was originally to be released earlier in the year but the album was
leaked, one of the first to have that happen, and was deemed "wack". The album was previously titled U-turn - this is why all the song titles on the album start with "U". Usher changed the title to 8701, the date it was released, dropped "U Remind Me", then "U Got it Bad" dropped and sales sky-rocketed.

Singles:

U Remind Me

U Got It Bad

U Don't Have to Call

U-Turn

Maxwell, Now, released August 14, 2001 - This was his 3rd
album and in my opinion it was far from comparison to the first 2. Thing is, by
this time people knew him. This album did produce, arguably his 2 biggest hit
ever.

Singles:

Get to Know Ya

Lifetime

This Womans Work

Mary J. Blige, No More Drama, released August 28, 2001 - Top 5
personal favorite from 2001. The album was pushed back from leaks(one of the 1st
to have that happen). This was the transition from the old Mary J to the new
Mary J and the rest is history. That song with the "Days of Our life" theme song
in it, you know the name. In addition, she was one of the 1st artist to start
the "re-release" thing and added new songs.

McKnights 5th album sold over 150,000 units its first week. The Album was, "more
than wonderful, more than amazing.

Singles:

Love of My Life

My Kind of Girl

Babyface, Face2Face, released September 11, 2001 - This album
was not so sucessful, but we can blame that on 9-11 and Jay-Z. Babyface was
vintage on his "What if" Single.

Singles:

What If

There She Goes

Angie Stone, Mahogany Soul, released October 16, 2001 - what
can I say about this album? I remember the strong attemps that J Records put
into this album, to try and get it accepted by the mainstream. Nonetheless, it
was accepted by fans of her 1st album and all grown folk, nahmean. This is
another personal top 5, Ms. Stone is gangsta, just check these lyrics... "green
grass vapors running through my head, I'm feeling higher than the thunder dome"
WHAT!

Singles:

Brotha

Brotha II

I Wish I Didn't Miss You

More Than a Woman

Bottles

Michael Jackson, Invincible, released October 30, 2001 -
this was not a typical Michael Jackson album as far as hype is concerned. This
was his 1st album in 5 years and did eventually sale 10 million copies but with
record label concerns and such, its was pretty much under the radar. It was
still a great album and even though he only made 2 official singles other songs
also got radio play

Singles:

You Rock My World

Cry

Butterflies

Heaven Can Wait

Faith Evans, Faithfully, released November 6, 2001 - another
sleeper but this was classic to true R&B fans, this is definitely top 5 on
my personal list for the 2001 albums. I love you is probably the last REAL song
I heard. y'know having a chorus, verse, bridge and vamp. Those are all missing
elements of today. Side Note: I just know she naked under that fur coat on the
album cover...

Keke Wyatt, Soul Sista, released November 13, 2001 - Not a
great album ,I can admit, this is only on here for the Hit single "nothing in
this world". Keke shole can sang though.

Singles

Nothing in this World

Jill Scott, Experience: Jill Scott 826+, released November 20, 2001 - Jilly from Philly wasted no time going on tour after her debut album, "Who is
Jill Scott". That touring produced this album, which gave us the EXPERIENCE.

Singles:

Gimme

He Loves me

Joe, Better Days, released December 11, 2001 - This was
another album that rode the coat tails of previous success by the artist. Joe's
previous album(My Name is Joe) was multi-platinum, this one was not so hot but
the two singles were.

Singles

Lets Stay Home Tonight

What If a Women

That's right RAPPER, and she has a new mixtape out, and on some real shit, it aint bad at all.

This definately aint no Lola Luv wack ass type of shit. She definitely makes a lot of money so she could have paid people to write verses for her but she still got to flow it and she be hittin it. Production is FIYAH, like every other mixtape though those drops are annoying but necessary, I guess.

I'm actually promoting because you can download the mixtape right here from the embedded widget below. At least listen to the title track "Fuck You Pay Me", I like that one. She snapped a lil bit on the song "Bad Bitch" too.

Who in the hell is going to pay $70 for a shoe you can buy at famill dollar.

I can see it now. Nurses, RN's and LPN's all over the country are going to be rocking Obama Keds

Schultz, 30-years old, who was waiting in the sedan with her children in the resident’s driveway. Shultz told the woman she was looking for a friend, and then sped off honking the horn.

A man, allegedly the husband of the female suspect, James J. Shultz of Norwood, exited the house with a white plastic bag filled with articles from the home. After being challenged by neighbor John Michaud, the suspect dropped the bag and ran to the sedan which was waiting at the end of the street. (SOURCE)

Nicki Minaj turns down Rihana's offer

BIG ROOKIE MISTAKE

Rihanna will hit the road this summer for her "Last Girl On Earth Tour" and she's tapped two of her famous lady friends to join her. Out of all the people who were at the game, the ball hit by Minnesota Twins Outfielder Denard Span, found its way to his mother.

Minnesota Twins leadoff man Denard Span hit a hard foul ball that struck his mom in the chest during Wednesday's game. She was treated by paramedics and back in the stands minutes later.

"My mom is feeling ok right now!" Span later posted on his Twitter account.

Wanda Wilson was wearing a Span jersey and sitting with about 20 family members and friends near the third-base dugout. Span took a defensive swing in the first inning and sent a liner into the low box seats, hitting her near the shoulder.
A stunned Span sprinted into the stands and stayed with his mother while she got treatment. The split-squad game against the New York Yankees was delayed for a few minutes as she walked to first aid, and the Twins said she was sore but OK.

"What the odds of that happening?" Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson said. "I've never seen it before. It's crazy. I'm standing there right next to it and I heard it and it's just, 'Oh no!, that didn't sound good.' She's on the ground and I'm saying, 'Please don't be the head or something' because it sounded so ugly." (source)

Word of the Week: Scrupulous

Scrupulous - having a strict regard for what one considers right; principled

In order to achieve moral success one must be scrupulous in their everyday life.

IMO: Teacher orders students to punch another

Yeah this pic is here solely for shock value but check out the video.

All I want to say is this must be 1 bad ass lil boy. This is the second teacher to basically say 'fuck it, hit the lil bastard back'; And this second teacher probably was given lil Davarius as a 'special project'. Parents are getting horrible too! I bet lil Davarius be kickin his poor misguided mother ass! No doubt this lady knows that her son came from the seamen of satan. She does not have control over the boy and the school is just suppose to let him do whatever? He obviously has not been receiving proper discipline at home.

Now the teacher over did it. You had to let the whole school van give lil Davarious a mouth shot? The truly bothersome thing about this story is that the parent would rather call the news & have the school closed than focus on the real issue - her son's behavior.

But hey that just my opinion....

Seen on my local news and on Culturemap.com

Word of the Week: Affinity

Affinity - natural liking or attraction to a person place or thing

Since I was young I've always had an affinity for playing music

<noembed>Hip Pop by Dafonzarelli</noembed>

IMO: Tales of the F-List

Apparently posting the grades of students is a violation of their privacy?

They wonder why the education system is failing. Y'know I recall back in middle school their was an honor roll list and if you had a grade point average of 2.75 & above you would get put on that list. I also recall that if we were not on that list we could not go to the dance. Now we were no dummies, if we did not see your name on the list we knew you were failing - or barely a "C" average student. The situation in the video is basically the same thing. Of course, the difference being that the failing students are listed; But the other major difference is that AT LEAST theses students know ahead of time and can improve their grades, in order to attend the dance.

If posting the failing students is a violation of right, isn't posting the honor students a violation too?

I mean, Mr. 4.0 every semester is the school geek and gets ridiculed for that just like the school dummy would be ridiculed. I know the jury is still out on the "-20% LOSER grade" but this is a whole new ball game. If you are humiliated by being on that list then you DO still have time to improve your grade. I could see reason to be a worried parent if it was posted that your child FAILED a semester but this list merely stated they are on the failing path.

I can not believe this is even national news. I commend Principal Dave Schoepke, he is giving the students time to improve in order to receive the incentive of the school dance. He is being proactive and not just letting the chips fall were they lay. This parent, who obviously is not involved in their child learning, is complaining because they failed as a parent. Imjussayin, if my child came to me crying because they were on the "F-list" I'd say, "then get an 'A', hell get a 'D' & then you will not be on that list". If my child was failing I would not call CNN, I'd call Sylvan Learnig Center, or a tutor, or someone who could improve the grade and help the child. It seems that our society never gets past pacifying.

How can you be more concerned about your child being humiliated, or their popularity, over the FACT they they are obviously failing and suck in school?

But hey that's just my opinion....

I recommend that parent playing this song for his child...

Source
Source

Word of the Week: Impetuous

Impetuous

Definition: of, pertaining to, or characterized by sudden or rash action, emotion; impulsive: characterized by undue haste and lack of thought

Sentence: Planning, organizing and good judgement will prevent you from making impetuous decisions.

IMO: 3 yr old left at Birthday Party

This was the 3 yr old boy's Birthday Party by the way.

What went wrong here?

Based on this statement,

“The mother had apparently called the father Sunday and asked if he had the 3-year-old. The father no doubt had his other woman with him and said, "not this weekend son wait for your mom" - not knowing she already tipped out. I'm going to go on a limb in thinking the mother is probably notorious for trying to leave the lil boy with someone - I mean, she did wait like 2 days before calling the police. The father should have just taken the boy with him, he knows the mother ain't shit. First off, a MINUS 20%? I mean, c'mon you can't possible score below zero. Then the LOSER part *DEAD*

Ok, so now that we are past the headline and got our giggles out we can really analyze this. Personally, the sensitivity of this issue would lie in the age of the student. For example, a teenager/high school student this would definitely be a character building moment. If you got that far along in the education system but turn in work where you don not get a single answer right? That would be loser-esque. Hey, the student may not be a loser but they would be on the loser path FOR SURE.

In actuality though that is not the case. This was handed out to a 6th grade student, probably age 11. To me this would warrant anger from the parent. At that age you are still fairly early in the learning process. Labeling a child a loser could be quite damaging especially coming from a teacher - whom children should look up to. In the video it is stated that the teacher has a method of teaching that is a way for him to better relate to the students. It is also stated that many other parents supports this method of teaching, though they did not want to go on camera stating that.

There is definitely more than meets the eye to this story. Nonetheless the angered parent could simply request their child be placed in a class with a different teacher - she probably did not do that because all the other parents and student say this teacher is great. It is also possible that the school and town are so small that there is only 1 teacher for that grade and subject - thus the only option. This is not the first student that this teacher has graded a "loser" and could possibly just be the case of an overzealous parent who need to find a tutor for their child.

But hey that just my opinion....

Raymond vs Raymond

Usher has a new album, titled "Raymond vs Raymond", to be released on March 30th. I hope that does not really happen because I think it will be career suicide for him. I do recall that earlier this year, amongst other things, he had a laptop of unreleashed songs stolen from his car. So I'm hoping he pulls an 8701 with this album. Remember that album was pushed back and later released on 8/7/01 back in 2001. Ushers last album "Here I stand" did not do very well at all, like his leading single, selling copies of that CD was like "Moving Mountains". Currently there has to be at least 10 songs leaked from this forthcoming album, which would be over half an album! I have a few of those songs posted below, most are featuring another artist. In fact I have only come across 2 leaked songs that did not feature another artist, he might as welled names the album "Usher featuring...", better yet "Featuring Usher" and only do hooks and ad-lib's.

USHER DON'T DO IT!!

rename the album 8710

Usher Ft. So loveless in VA coaxed her sister into traveling to Canada to smuggle her Haitian Mandingo Warrior back to Virginia, IN A HOCKEY BAG! - so they could get married. I checked and the largest hockey bag is a lil under 4 ft long, 2 ft tall & 2 ft wide, so that could not have been the most comfortable accommodations for the Haitian play boy. I'm pretty sure when the Canadian boarder patrol guy looked at their luggage he noticed the hocket bag looked like it had oddly shaped equipment in their. Plus isn't Canada like the birthplace of Hockey? He knew those brawds weren't on the Olympic team!

They would have had better luck rolling him up in a rug

Story seen on Canoe.ca
