I've seen many solutions but the fact of the matter is that they aren't !00% for instance the Terminal thing that is suggested up above dons not fix the trash can therefore you have to do it every time witch its really annoying!
i suggest take it to your nearest apple store or call apple and have the deal with it.

PS. this isn't the only problem i have had with macbook's so much for a full-proof program with no glitches...

@charles unfortunately I don't have any experience with jailbroken devices. I've stayed away from jailbreaking because of the very reason you are here, you might screw up your phone.

I would suggest posting on some of the jailbreaking forums around the web for help.

@payyyyy You will lose some of your data on the iPhone but the only thing you can do is restore your iPhone from within iTunes.

hey michael,
im just beginning to have problems with my iphone. yesterday, i went to check my messages and it came up and said that i should connect it to itunes so i just tried that. nothing is responding and it says- itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode.you must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes.

I wasnt sure how this happened and what my next step was.

@Eric1234321 The .ipsw firmware files are located in:
Windows: Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
Mac: ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates

Look for the most recent firmware file, it will be called something like "iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw"
Delete the most recent file and then try to restore from iTunes.

I believe developers should be paid for their work and I don't see how a developer can make an application with as much quality as the games you see on other platforms and still be able to pay their bills unless they sell their app for $20 or more.
