Over the past few days I have been working on a brand new homepage for my personal website. This update has been something I have been wanting to do for sometime and its finally live an in living colour.

I just got invited to Google Wave. Well I can't do much I need other to jion me. I can't make a comment on a collaborative tool until I well collaborate. If you don't know this already this is Google's major product they are bring to market which they expect we revolutionize the way we use email and instant messenger etc online. Before I comment as i said before I would have to collaborate with those of you who are brave enough to ride the wave of new technology.

Hey people, its been a very long time in coming in coming but I have finally written my bio. I have been putting it off for sometime. This has been one of the hardest topics for me to write on in recent times! 

If you don't have a bio as yet yourself I suggest you get to work now. Its always good to put yourself out there so that you can attract like minded people.

BIO

My deepest passion is to assist in building up the Caribbean Community and I plan to do this by making use of my skills in marketing, social media and business. Professionally, I have worked with Alt Entertainment Inc. and BoomTribe assisting them in their quest to develop a Caribbean Music Industry by producing compelling Caribbean entertainment content for TV, Radio and the web. I have held the positions of Digital Content Manager, Community Manager and Content Marketing Manager over the 3 years I have spend with them. Essentially, I was responsible for getting all of Alt Entertainment's produced content, onto its online platform, BoomTribe.com, share it with the BoomTribe community and market it to the rest of the world. Over my time at BoomTribe I filled roles of marketer, photographer, writer, video editor, video producer, video & TV host and more when need arose. I was pivotal in developing the new BoomTribe.com which was launched in Jun 2009, and was greeted with open arms by the public. It was designed to make it easy for Alt Entertainment to share its content and also highlight all of BoomTribe's brands and products.

Its the start of a new work week and I thought I would share this video from with you. Monday is a high time for meetings and in some cases meetings that are not necessary or have lost their whole direction months ago.

All reports have said that the Bedy Oceanline Ferry Service is to start in October 2009.

I have been getting countless request to find out the latest on this cheaper way to travel between Caribbean Islands, and I am deciding to jump on it.

Yesterday as I passed the Barbados port and saw a vessel of a similar class to the one in the photo above docked in the Barbados port. Now with one more wee in October left to go, I am wondering just want is going on? Do you know?

One story I heard is that it might be delayed but that source is far removed from the source.

Its important that we share.

I wanted to leave you with this thought as you get started on the final day of the work week. We speak of sharing constantly these days. Especially, since the advent of facebook and social media. We are constantly sharing photos, videos, thoughts and ideas with each other via the worldwide web. This level of sharing has never been seen before in the history of mankind!
Stop for a few moments and appreciate just how big sharing have become in this 2.0 world.

@ShanzBarhopper reminded me on twitter today of a moment in time about 2 years ago when I shared a simple concept with her. Not my brainchild but a philosophy that totally I buy into :-

Don't work HARD – Work SMART

She mentioned that this thought did was a huge help in her getting through some rough times. My act of sharing helped her to reach to the point that she is at today. This was a very real reminder for me of just how important and impactful sharing can be for others!

That's where this post is coming from!

Fear is not good for sharing … 

Scared. Yes you, Are you scared to share? You never seem to find the right time to what you have to say? 
Sometimes we get very scared to express the things we are feeling inside us. When expression is combined with the act of sharing, the power created can heal you and strengthen your spirit. You will also grow wiser as you get different perspectives on the thoughts and ideas you have in your head. Your mind gets stretched beyond its usual bounds and wisdom falls upon you.

I know that my blog posts have inspired and sparked ideas in others and for that I am most grateful. 

I ended up writing a blog post after that situation - Give Yourself Permission To … Work SMART. @ShanzBarhopper only stumbled upon today  check out her comment and see what she had to say.

On that note, take time to truly share and feel good for helping others around you.

Feedback is important and important too in every day life. It helps us to know what is working and what is not working and it helps to understand those around us. Those of you who are serious about your websites or blogs know this oh too well especially if you are interested in making cash from them.

Just for you here  are some of the latest updates to Google Analytics. This post will still be very eye-opening for any of you who are in business.

You are now able to to track engagement goals, time on site and pages per visit. Now for those of you who are not familiar, time on site is the amount of time a vistor spends on a site and pages per visit is the number of pages a visitor viewed on a particular visit. As you can imagine both of these would give a website owner great insight to how visitors are interacting with their site. Having the ability to now set goals kinds of goals I believe is a big deal for any Caribbean website owner, or any website owner targeting persons in the Caribbean market. As we are are all just learning and immersing ourselves in the online world. Website owners targeting the Caribbean Market much play close attention to how people are interacting with their site and work smart.  Setting these engagement goals will give tremendous insight to how people are using your site. Having been the content manager for BoomTribe.com I know how difficult it is to have a million things to add to your site and still have to find the hours to really study and understand your analytics. This is like a breathe of fresh air.

In a similar way, google is making it easier for website owners and bloggers to get alerts highlighting variations from the expected trend or changes to the website. This will be also useful in alerting you when something might have gone wrong on your site, when a page stops loading or there is a problem with a particular link.

GPS is becoming a part of our life in the Caribbean. I know, I know, we don't have those cool navigation systems that are common place in the developed world. I believe though that with GPS capability becoming readily available to us via our cell phones, we have the leadway to easily and cheaply experiment and explore ways in which we can put it to good use.

I have done some experimenting with Google Maps and Google Latitude and Blackberry Maps. I found that the GPS technology itself works great, but we lack the information to be posted on the maps to make them more informative and much more useful. 

I can hear those you out there calling me a a technie, nerd, geek … you are there thinking we don't have much use for GPS in the Caribbean.

Review of Gpsed.com

I have been experimenting with Gpsed.com for a little while now. Mapping Impressions. http://gpsed.com/

What Does Gpsed.com Do?

Basically it uses the GPS in your phone to track your movements while you travel from point A to point B. It then uploads this track in an online database where you can trace your track on google maps. You can also add your photos and waypoints to the track to make it more informative.

This is very similar to the Google My tracks feature only available on Google Android – check it out here -http://mytracks.appspot.com/

GPSed.com  is compatible with iPhone 3G, Nokia N95, BlackBerry Storm, Bold and other latest models, Windows Mobiles. GPSed is also compatible with a wide range of mobiles that can connect to the external GPS receiver via Bluetooth and with any gps receivers (like Garmin GPS, TomTom GPS and others) that can record tracks in GPX, PLT, KML and other formats.

User Experience 

I love the main page which is a simple screen displaying -

• Speed 
• Time/Duration 
• Distance 
• Compass (I love this feature)

I must make mention of the compass, I really like this feature! I have done alot of hiking and i know how convenient it would be to have your phone also be a compass!

I find that general interface to not be as intuitive as it can be, however its not hard to find you way around. 

Features

Waypoint – as you make your tracks, you can make way points that could signify landmarks on your journey. This is very easy to add.

Photos – you can add photos to your tracks as I mentioned before. I uploaded my geo-tagged photos to Flickr and they were automatically added to correct points on the track. Just a few clicks and it was done!

Privacy - You can easily set your tracks to private or public. This was a real help when I was making the map to my buried treasure.

Live Sharing – You can share your location live, or you can share your location while you are recording your track. There is also have the option to embed a small map on your webpage or blog that pin points your position, up to you if you want to do that!

SOS - I thought this is a nice touch. The SOS is allows you to send your location via email or SMS to the people u have saved.

Show your tracks and photos to your friends – You can share your tracks by simply making them public. 

Sharing Via Social Networks - there is facility to share you location using blogger, twitter, myspace and facebook.

In summary, I would say this is a great app. It would allow us to do alot of interesting things. Here are a few suggestions.

• track hiking trails
• public transport routes
• track carnival bands
• rally stages & rally cars at major rally meets. 
• it might help with traffic?
• directions for tourists
• track a fleet of vehicles – check out GPSed.com Monitoring Service

There are lot of possibilities that can be opened up with this software.

For you blackberry power users out there you would be happy to know that there is a another update to IM+. 

It includes -

• Group chat in Skype.
• Speech Recognition subscription – costs $1.99
• User avatars.
• User interface improvements and bugfixes.
  
  

I spend some time fooling around with it and it seems to be a general upgrade updating a few of the icons. I especially like the icon that displays when sending voice clips, photos or files to a contact. IM+ remains a great option for staying connected to those around you via instant messenger.
