Examine with us the discrepancy found in the ages recorded for king Ahaziah of Judah. In Kings he’s 22 years old when he begins to reign. In Chronicles he’s 42. Is this a copyist error inadvertently preserved in the Bible?

We begin by laying out the obvious discrepancy, and talking about the methods of copying and preserving ancient scriptural texts, right up to modern times. We then discuss God’s varying methods of counting things and using names. We then take a side jaunt into the possibility that some of the people we read about in the Old Testament might be resurrected into the tribulation!

We take a look at Christ’s Genealogy in Matthew 1 and count the 14 generations the way God counts them. And we look at the omission of the names of Ahab and Joram of Israel as recorded in II Kings and II Chronicles.

We then examine the foundation of the House of Ahab, and the unwanted marriage of God into the kingdom of Baal via Athaliah and Jehoram of Judah. We nark the date of the start of Omri’s reign the way God starts it, and count the days to it’s end 42 years later with the slaughter of the houses of Ahab and Baal at the hand of Jehu. We utilize both the well known figure of “40” as a godly measure of time as well as the 42 years of the House of Ahab to explain the discrepancy of Ahaziah’s age between Kings and Chronicles.

This week America’s most attractive audio engineer and her host bring an analysis of the goings on in a podcast as brief and sudden as the unfortunate illnesses that overtake the small and great alike.

If you felt a thousand bucks shorter after the opening of “Trump Accounts”, don’t worry, that was just you confusing “shareholding” with “socialism!” And if you were trying to cook food in Los Angeles for money, you should have never suffered the machinations of the commissars! While in the suburbs “shop till you drop” takes on a sad and dark new meaning…

Self indulgent heathen and so-called bio-hacker Bryan Johnson is rightly afraid to die, but not above leveraging a unfavorable medical diagnosis to drive product sales. Meanwhile another case of “brain dead isn’t dead” should not be called a miracle. It should call for an investigation of the medical protocols surrounding so-called brain death!

Marco Rubio deported a predator who should have been executed, without calling for the execution of such criminal. Was it his Catholicism or his political liberalism that tripped him up? All this while Pastor Lucas Gomes would have been guilty of desecrating his church, if the place he puts on his weekly show was a part of the church. .

We announced this week our firm opposition to drone swarms, (at least as they’re being used in the Russo-Ukrainian War), the singularly self interested worldview of Bill Maher, (of “Little to Nothing ” fame), and the new Moslem Air force One!

All that plus the whereabouts of Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham, Elaine “Mao” Chao, and anyone else who may have or will soon die suddenly.

In the Bible no one ever talked about going to heaven before Paul, in Romans, about 4,000 years after the creation, and after most of the events of the Bible were history!

Doesn’t everybody want to go to heaven when they die? And didn’t everybody always want to go to heaven?

Turns out no. Nobody did! (Not even Jesus, (at least not exclusively and forever)! This time we begin by examining one more example of the “goings in and comings out” in the Bible which leads us to the interesting fact that before Paul nobody wanted to go to heaven.

We start with the temple God will build in Ezekiel 43 and trace back where the Bible says God’s house was, what and where “the house of the Lord” is, and where God has always intended to live. Whether people lived there with him turns out to be an open question, starting with Moses, but then not with David, and then open again with Solomon. And the open or closed status of that question matters if you want to understand the whole story!

We then examine the prophetic scriptures that inspire even the modern day belief that the “good” get eternal life and the bad get eternal punishment. But we discover that in the Old Testament, the good never thought they were going to heaven.

We then examine the evidence in the gospels and see that neither Jesus nor the apostles, nor the disciples thought they were going to heaven, (even if they endured till the end).

Then we get to Paul’s epistles where we discover for the first time in then Bible the idea that anyone is going to heaven. And then we study out how that is and what we should be doing while we’re still here on the earth.

We’ll examine the events of the ministry of the Holy Spirit after the stoning of Stephen and the scattering of the apostles to get the context of Peter’s encounter with Cornelius, including the signs associated with Simon the Sorcerer, Tabitha’s death and good works, Aeneas’s eight years with the palsy, and Philip’s witness to the Ethiopian eunuch.

We also discuss the biblical meaning of the phrase “going out and coming in” (and why it appears in reverse regarding Paul at Jerusalem in Acts 9). Why are the encouraging reports of rest and multiplication among the Messianic churches in Judea, Samaria and Galilee after the stoning of Stephen and the dispensational shift away from them to the body of Christ that was occurring?

And we’ll read all of Acts 10 to determine whether or not Cornelius was an early gentile member of the body of Christ? or a sign to Peter and all Israel.

Matthew 18 vs Pauline Doctrine

There tend to 3 types of so-called “conflicts” that come up that require resolution: questions of sin, questions of doctrine, and personal conflicts And for all three circumstances, most of the professing Christians I interact with apply some form of the Mat 18 formula to finding a resolution.

There are two contexts that must be established for any passage of scripture before making a spiritual application. First: the Historical Context: What did it mean to the original audience? Next, the Dispensational Context: Who was the passage instructing? In what dispensation, or where in the timeline of God’s various and sundry instruction? And then any Spiritual Application: What can be applied to our walk today? Or in the case of conflict resolution: what can be applied to the issue at hand.

There must also be a consideration of the prophetic versus mystery context that is included in the historic, and/or the dispensational context. And there also may be mystery information hidden in the prophetic context. The Bible is hard to understand. That’s why it requires not only reading and not only hanging up verses for décor in the living room, and not only quoting it to make theological points in an argument. But study; serious, laborious, time consuming study in search of the mind of the author. And when you find him, the reward is tremendous. But it’s an acquired taste that doesn’t come easy. Kind of like preaching.

We start with an analysis of Luke 1:59-80 to identify all the elements necessary for gaining spiritual insight from any Bible passage. While we can glean eternal truths and spiritual applications from all scripture, we have to go to the instructions God gave to the body of Christ via Paul to figure out how to resolve disputes, judge sin and affirm sound doctrine.

We then examine the popular Mat 18 prescription for dispute resolution and compare that with Paul’s instructions for believers today regarding the judgment of sin, correction of false doctrine and resolution of personal disputes.

We begin this week with some insight as to why agreeing on a common biblical definition of Bible words is complicated by the common use of a half-dozen or so different translations*. We then begin our quest to define “meek”, (or “meekness”) in the book of Numbers, according to the authoritative KJB with Aaron, Miriam, Moses and the Ethiopian woman Moses married. And along the way we learn that details of The Law of Moses recorded in Deuteronomy were not included in the original report from Sinai in Exodus 19-31.

We’ll then get two or three more witnesses from the Old Testament and the Gospels regarding meekness to discover the sphere of meaning. What we discover is NOT that meekness involves deliberate decisions of the human will to control ourselves or our power, (as Google and the dictionaries, and the modern evangelical lexicons define it), but learning God’s will, giving deference to it in judgment, and obedience to it, especially when it costs one worldly status, position or relationships.

We then look at the meek in Isaiah 61:1, and the reference to it recorded in Luke 4:16-19 . Here we examine another example of why the “red letter” Bible was a bad idea, why the redness of the letters is not inspired, and how they may conceal the intent of the author. Because the Luke 4 text differs from Isaiah 61:1 in ways you’ve likely heard about, and in ways you might not have heard.

We then examine the concept of meekness as applied by Paul alongside other concepts like righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, fighting the good fight, laying hold on eternal life, and professing a good profession. We also discuss the difference between forgiveness regarding an earthly quarrel versus the treatment of sin and false doctrine.

To close with a definition: The Bible defines meekness as submission to God’s will, especially when it costs you in the world. Meekness is to be learned and may be expressed with kindness or by rebuke. It should be displayed so as not to engender strife, but instead to facilitate understanding or restoration. Have I always displayed meekness perfectly? No. Maybe you haven’t either. I hope this study helps both of us understand and display meekness more excellently.

Phil 1:9-11, “And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.”

*Occurrences of “meek” and “meekness” in the ESV, NKJ & KJB :
ESV: – Num 12:3, Ps 37:11, Isa 11:4, 29:19, Mt 5:5
NKJV: Ps 37:11, Isa 11:4, Zeph 2:3, 11:12, Mt 5:5, 2 Cor 10:1, Col 3:12, Jam 1:21, 3:13, I Pet 3:15
KJB Num 12:3, Ps 22:26, 25:9, 37:11, 45:4, 76:9, 147:6, 149:4, Isa 11:4, 29:19, 61:1, Amos 2:7, Zph 2:3, Mat 5:5, 11:29, 21:5, I Cor 4:21, 2 Cor 10:1, Gal 5:23, 6:1, Ep 4:2, Col 3:12, I Tim 6:11, 2 Tim 2:25, Tit 3:2, Jam 1:21, 3:13, I Pet 3:4, 3:15)

The Gospel:

There is a God. You and I are not him. He’s the righteous God who created the world. He’ll determine our fate when we die. We’re dying because we’re sinners. But in his mercy God sent his son Jesus Christ to die and pay for your sins and mine. He rose from the dead to freely offer you and me forgiveness and eternal life. If you’ll trust him, and believe that he can forgive your sins and give you life, he will! Do you believe it?
