Paul quotes the law a lot. But he isn’t a teacher of the law. Paul instead shows us how God manifests the righteousness of the law in us, (because the righteousness of the law is God’s righteousness, which never changed. -and is a witness to grace, along with the prophets).

We examine the spirit by which the devil’s minions rule principalities and the high places of the present world. We then study through God’s instruction and means of protection for believers in this spiritual war.

We then home in on what a snare is, and why the scripture uses a snare to describe the operation of the devil. And then on the protection God provides us against it. And that protection, “the armor” starts with the truth, that’s the Word of God. Get it in you and it will also be on you. It will protect you inside and out! Then righteousness. Who’s righteousness. The righteousness of Christ, which is the breastplate, protecting the vital organs against a fatal body blow. And the preparation of the gospel of peace. Knowing the gospel gives you the ability to turn the enemy soldier into an ally. But you’ve got to prepare. That means study to show yourself approved unto God. Then faith! Who’s faith? The faith of Christ which never fails, even when shots are being fired! Then salvation, which protects your mind like a helmet protects your head. And this helmet can even be fitted onto the enemy, converting him to an ally! And finally the sword of the spirit, which circles you right back to the truth, the sword is the word of God, providing omnidirectional  protection and offensive capability.

We then look at scriptures on charity, keeping in mind the snares the devil might construct to capture the church, and the culture, and the government, and you and me, in order to get us working against the manifestation of God’s righteousness by our charity.

And this leads us back to the matter of the 501c3 so-called charitable deduction. Put simply: it’s the course of this world causing us to apply the calculations of a business transaction to “charity.” But business isn’t charity. So we shouldn’t call business charity. We should not defile anyone’s understanding by confusing business with charity.

The charity that suffers long, and is kind; that never envies, doesn’t vaunt itself and isn’t not puffed up, that never behaves itself unseemly, never seeks her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil, rejoices in the truth; the charity that bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things; the charity that never fails must be kept pure from the business of the world. To conflate the two is to be entangled in the snare of the devil.

If one experiences the pain of rebuke and correction and responds in godly humility, he is receiving training from God for his soul. Respond godly and your soul will do better, here and in eternity. And you might attract more people to go there with you. Because you might demonstrate charity out of a pure heart.

We look at the biblical concepts taxes, tax protest,and the the exemption of churches from taxes as presented in the Bible. We cover the concepts of this “present evil world”, spiritual warfare, the whole armor of God and the idea of being a soldier in a spiritual war. We briefly consider a couple examples from the gospels involving Jesus speaking to taxation in general.

And then we look at the real world incident that sparked this study, along with an example of real world Christian charity. We then go to the scripture to examine the question: By accepting tax exempt status are ministers putting themselves and their donors in a position to defile charity itself? To do that we look at the concept of purity in the Bible alongside the potential for legalism, and how to draw spiritual application from non-doctrinally applicable scriptures.

It’s hilarious in parts, and maybe you’ll find something helpful, or maybe just cringy, or maybe just informative… We then get the biblical origins of the concept of being “more than fair”, or giving “more than enough.”

We then get to the reign of Josiah, and how he did everything he could according to the Law of Moses , and walking in the way of David to purge Judah of her sins and turn her heart back to Jehovah. But without the power of God’s Holy Spirit Josiah’s good works would fail to accomplish the redemption of Israel, pointing to the fact that God would have to do that himself!

We note how Josiah kept a passover festival more perfectly than even David or Solomon! yet God’s decision to cast Judah into captivity could not be overcome, driving home one of the great truths of the whole Bible: God will do for man, pictured here by Israel, what man cannot do for himself: he rescues them, avenges them, destroys their oppressors, redeems & justifies them, and then blesses them with the kingdom of righteousness over the whole earth.

After Josiah, and the brief reign of Jehoahaz, we get to Jehoiakim and the age discrepancy recorded in II Chronicles regarding Jehoiachin. Having determined that a scribal error is not plausible we offer two solutions based on the grammatical references of the pronoun “him”, and another based upon the possibility of a co-regency, declared by the king of Egypt as the subjugation of, and eventual captivity of Judah swept over the land.

We start with the opinions of textual critics and Bible commentators, which naturally leads into study of profanity, the profane, the abominable, the common, and the defiled in the Bible, and in the world today. We revisit the various counting methods employed by God, and offer a few thoughts on men who revered the Bible and why you should too!

For context we go back to Solomon and the division of the kingdom, the prophecy of Josiah, and against Jeroboam, the two prophets in I Kings 13, (the man of God from Judah and the old, lying prophet in Bethel), and one of the strangest stories in the Bible. Then we close with an examination of the term “the promised land.”

We look at the passages we’ve been told name the unforgivable sin n Mat 12:32, Mar 3:28 & Luk 12:10. We then start by establishing the biblical concepts of sin and forgiveness in Genesis 50, and get to the root of why you might have wondered if you committed the unforgivable sin.

We establish that the title “unforgivable sin”, along with the words “unforgivable” and “unforgiven” are not in the Bible, and that even the Catholic Catechism leaves some wiggle room for forgiveness. And we discuss why both Catholic and evangelical church leadership might find the possibility of an unforgivable sin to their advantage.

We see what the scripture says about eternity, and God’s holiness, and why there can be no sin allowed in the next world. We then look at a few other Bible stories that contain what were clearly unforgiven sins, and answer why they’re not in the Catechism.

finally we reveal what it takes to be forgiven for the unforgivable sin today: Believe the gospel! Jesus Christ, the son of God died for your sins, he rose again, and he’s offering forgiveness and eternal life to anyone who trusts him for it.

We examine several bible stories with a couple good questions to keep in mind whenever you read and study the Bible: “Is what I’ve always thought about this story true?” And: “is there something I’ve not yet understood?” We also give a brief explanation of that communion is and is not!

We ask if Paul was referring to himself, or someone else when he wrote about a man who was “caught up to the third heaven” in II Cor 12:1-10. (Hat tip to Paul Lucas). We discuss the date of the writing of Revelation and how John being in the Spirit on The Lord’s Day does not mean he was in a spiritual mood on a Sunday, but was seeing the 2^nd coming.

We also bring up the idea that Paul and the prophets in his circle appear to have been tasked with completing the New Testament canon before Paul died according to II Tim 3:14-17, “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

We then look at Abraham’s sacrifice of Isaac in Gen 22 and ask, “did God wait till Abraham was about to plunge the knife down into Isaac before stopping him?” And Why does God call Isaac Abraham’s only son, when Ismael was also Abraham’s son? And why the author of Hebrews says Abraham offered Isaac up, even though the story in Genesis 22 shows God interrupted the sacrifice. And how Abraham is an example of both faith alone, and faith plus works, depending on the dispensational audience.

We then ask why God counted “”the tribe of Judah only” as following Rehoboam at the division of the kingdom even though later we’re informed it was actually Judah, Benjamin, and a faithful remnant of the northern tribes as well. Why does God mark to the month Solomon’s building of the temple as seven and a half years, but then says “seven years” was Solomon building it?

And was Jesus in the grave for three days and three nights? Or did he rise on the third day? How can he say both? And did Jesus rise before sunrise or after? And why is the Bible not clear about it? Why leave room for any argument?

It’s that leaving room for an argument that turns out to be the lesson for this week. Let God be true, and every man a liar!
