II Timothy Ch 3

Listen in or watch as w e cover what it means to become “entangled” in the affairs of this life, and how entanglement is deception into seemingly hopeless situations. We consider the phrase “last days” and determine what days Paul is speaking about when he lists some of the worst people of all time in verses 2-5.

We’ll examine the characteristics of those horrible people to discern who they are and how we are to turn away from them, and discuss whether Paul is speaking of unbelievers, or believers. We’ll then discern the meaning of having “…a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof…”, and what the words “trucebreakers”, “traitors”, and “lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God” imply about the identity of the people Paul is warning us about.

What does it mean to have a form of godliness? What does it mean to deny the power of it? And just who are the “silly women” Paul speaks of? And who are the reprobate?

We’ll also examine the doctrine of the inspiration of scripture, and what Paul meant that all scripture is “given” by inspiration of God. And why are the words “perfect” and throughly the correct translation rather than the substitutes found in modern English translations? Finally we close with the emphasis Paul continues to put on doctrine, specifically the doctrine given to him by Christ for the Body today living in the dispensation of God’s grace.

II Timothy Ch 2

This week we examine the holy calling, promise of life in Christ Jesus given to us as a gift in Christ before the world began and determine what our position is, and what our obligation of obedience is in and toward him. We’ll also review some evidence that those who were “turned away” from Paul were turned away in apostasy.

What does it mean to be “strong in grace”? We’ll examine evidence of the power we have access to in believing and hoping in Christ. And we’ll see Paul call witnesses to the gospel he calls “my gospel” – including his forefathers, Timothy’s grandmother Lois, his mother Eunice, King David and the scriptures. And he commands Timothy and us to commit that gospel to faithful men. How do we identify faithful men? And are all Christians saints and faithful men?

We’ll go over striving lawfully, being first partakers of the fruit and receiving understanding in all things. We cover the two groups of God’s elect in Christ and how Paul’s gospel to them is not according to Old Testament prophecy, but according to the mystery kept secret since the world began. We’ll discuss that second group of “elect” – us gentiles who believe the gospel!

Paul asks if we are dead with Christ, if we are raised with him, if we’ll reign or be denied by him? We’ll study what this means in light of our salvation and our activities and position in the world to come.

We’ll consider the major biblical doctrines of studying and rightly dividing the word of truth, and how they are diminished and even hidden by the modern church with their corrupted bibles. And finally we’ll look at who it is who opposes themselves and what we need to do about it.

II Timothy Ch 1

In Paul’s second letter to Timothy we’ll examine the threads of remembrance, warning and encouragement Paul delivers to strengthen Timothy to continue in ministry even as Paul readies for his departure from this world into the glorious heavenly kingdom of God.

We note the fact that Paul remembers Timothy’s grandmother Lois, and his mother Eunice, but not his father, who Paul reminds him is God in heaven, and Paul on earth. We’ll study through what Paul means that he and Timothy were given God’s grace, “,,,in Christ Jesus before the world began in light of Calvinist, Open Theist, and plain Biblical thought.

Did God understand that in creating beings other than himself that sin and death would be an inevitable reality he would have to overcome? What is the BIG difference in the gospel Paul has been appointed to preach as an apostle and a teacher of the gentiles? What is the division Paul marks when he says “…but now is made manifest by the appearing of our savior Jesus Christ?” And was Cornelius saved into the Body, or into the Little Flock?

Find out what God’s will is for your life is! It’s simpler than you might think! I Tim 2:4, that all men would be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. And that Paul was “appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.”

When Paul said “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” What day was he tasking about? We’ll pursue the biblical uses of the word “form” and discuss the doctrine of biblical preservation in light of the power of the love in Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit..

And we’ll try to determine if Paul’s reference to Onesiphorus being granted Christ mercy “in that day holds a clue to whether or not “all those who are in Asia” turning against him refers to an apostacy, or the lack of friendly witnesses at his trial before Caesar.

I Timothy 5-6

We consider the laying on of hands in regard to Timothy getting his ministry as well as Paul’s admonition to ““Lay hands suddenly on no man…”, as well as what is meant that Timothy be not a “partaker of other men’s sins .” And hear what the scripture says about Timothy “using a little wine” for his stomach’s sake.

What does it mean to count our ungodly masters worthy of all honor? And how can we find contentment when our riches are taken away and we’re left with nothing more than food and clothing? And is the love of money the root of all evil?

Hear about how the devil’s lie turned the Tree of Knowledge into an object that inflamed the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. We must flee these things!

We’ll go over fighting the good fight of faith, (and where that fight mostly occurs), and rejoice with Timothy in Paul’s reference to his good profession in light of our Lord’s good confession before Pontius Pilate. We’ll also see what the scripture says about being rich, and “laying hold on eternal life.”

I Timothy 3:16 – 4:6

This time we examine the mystery of godliness versus the mystery of iniquity. We’ll also discuss the King James translation, whether or not other languiages have a perfect bible, and how being”grounded and settled” is more evidence that the church is not the pillar and ground of the truth.

Is “God manifest in the flesh” Jesus or the church? What does it mean that he was “justified in the Spirit?” Are believers justified in the Spirit? What can we learn from Jesus’ baptism, ascension and Paul’s ministry to help us understand I Tim 3:16?

We’ll study out justification, justification in the Spirit and justification by the Spirit, praying before meals and how the creature in I Tim 3 is likely not just the animals we eat, but the new creature being created by Christ in His Body.
