Since then it has become a thriving online community where women share reviews about their favourite stores, products and services.

Eden uses HoHoTO, a party created by the mesh guys which is also being used as a fundraiser for the Daily Bread Foodbank, as an example (see the HoHoTO Facebook page). Connie talks about a question that came up at Sustainability Camp, whether on-line social networking tools can replace in-person interaction.

Simon Chen is a consultant and Melany Gallant is the director of marketing for Ramius Corporation, a firm based in Ottawa, Ontario. Ramius designs and develops online social technologies and is perhaps best known for CommunityZero, an online community platform. Most recently, they launched an beta test for Sixent, a social networking platform.

00:43 Kathryn explains what PTO Today is - School Family Media is the umbrella organization, and PTO Today is a main media property. Help parent group leaders of parent groups (PTO or PTA).

They have a lot of free content on the site including their magazine which brings a lot of people into the site. Eden and I travelled to Montréal this weekend to attend Podcamp Montréal for social media mavens. We were learning a lot more about podcasting, caught up with old friends, and made new ones. We also wanted to support the burgeoning podcaster community in Montréal by presenting the bit that we know about podcasting: how to get started! It is not the same as being there, but we hope you enjoy our slides below. I've added in things we noted during the session to make them a little more complete.

He sees overlap between the groups. He is also part of other communities unrelated to these.

Welcome to Community Divas, a podcast about communities with hosts Eden Spodek and Connie Crosby.

Eden Spodek is the woman behind the ever-so-pink but not-for-women-only shopping blog Bargainista. In 2001, she launched Yabber.net, YTV’s first online community for tweens. Eden is passionate about social media and community building and put her passion to work as a member of the PodCamp Toronto organizing team and regular contributor to One Degree, a Canadian marketing industry blog. She’s been working in digital communications since 1995.

Connie Crosby is a law librarian and consultant specializing in social media. She blogs at conniecrosby.blogspot.com and is a core contributor to the Canadian law blog Slaw. She started her consulting firm Crosby Group Consulting in February 2008, and also teaches social networking tools to information professionals through the Professional Learning Centre at the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto. Connie works with Eden as a member of the PodCamp Toronto organizing team. She has been participating in online communities since 1986.
