oDesk also offers virtual assistants half the normal cost of having an assistant in the office. It also offers good reporting tools and even 6 screenshots of your VA's computer every working hour.

Our team of VA's and lead generators can help!

Being sensitive and adapting to gen y's needs is all good and fine, but what about jobs that require focused dedicated time to a specific, non-tech task in the labor field. Tech/communication can become addictive. Are we, as employers, supposed to be the rehab clinic? Some gen y's consider physical labor to be beneath them, and shun that kind of work or hide in bathrooms to get their "fix".

Where will America be when we can't get a bridge, house, etc built because no one wants to focus on that effort and put the cell phone down?

In many ways Gen Y is similiar to all new generations that have entered the workforce. The younger generation will always bring a different perspective to business and their needs will change how managers interact with employees. Change is good.

There are several points that you mentioned is unique to them. Technology is fully integrated into their lives and they assume they can stay connected with friends and family at any time. That's where clear guidelines from the manager helps the newest employee become a working member of the team. That's the downsize to their technology comfort.

There is an upside to their ability to quickly navigate new technology that allows companies to become more competitive in the marketplace.

Gen Y's are use to communicating their thoughts and need a committment from their manager to consistently interact with them. All employees want approval, yet I experienced this generation engaging in more feedback with their manager.

It's a new generation that will grow in large numbers. Older generations comment on their supposely lack of work ethics. From my experience, there is a strong drive in most of them to contribute. Their business style may be different than other generations, yet this is a smart generation and it will be exciting to see the impact on business with their presence.

It was a very nice article really. I'd so many wrong impression about Y Gen. After reading this, I've started thinking differently. Thank you very much. I'll discuss these with my relatives, friends.

By the way, do you think Y gen are more selfish then us (I'm 35 now)? I've this impression, Do you also think that their dress code sometimes becomes unexpected even to their family? Could you please tell me something on "how to deal with Y gen at home/family?" if you've any article, send me the link please. I'll be very happy to read it.

As a small business owner, outsourcing work to Virtual Assistants is fast becoming a popular and intelligent decision. The business owner saves enormous amounts of money by cutting the costs of offices and equipment overhead as well as expensive benefits packages.
