So 2009 is a little more than half-way over (and there was much rejoicing). Anyhow, with the year rapidly moving by, there existed a need to document the records that have been occupying my turntable and iPod like the Germans did France circa 1940 [too soon? No, it's never too soon!]. While I did go through the effort of culling the releases of the year into this list; the efforts required to actually reflect enough to number them was far too great only being this far into our orbit around the sun. However, I was willing to expend enough effort to dig around on the internet and find videos for all of the records – hooray. Without further ado, the list:

Bad habits are hard to break. In our case, we keep posting our Sunday night feature on Monday mornings. Luckily the beginning of the work week haze is perfectly suited for a nice time sink. Grab a cup of coffee, avoid your boss (you have a “work related” tab open in your browser -right?) and sit down with this week’s video picks.

Ponytail – Celebrate the Body Electric (It Came From an Angel)

We recently recieved a letter* from a reader asking if we could find a video that was guaranteed to give them a headache if not make them vomit all over themselves – I think we delivered. Plus Bikesnob NYC recently commented that this band is the Primal Jersey of the music world – while not exactly a compliment, I think it is important to maintain cultural relevance and link to BSNYC whenever possible.

*By letter, we mean that I could not come up with a more original way to introduce this video.

Cass McCombs – You Saved My Life

This track sounds slowed down in a way that perfectly reflects a hot summer afternoon as Cass weaves his way through a crowded festival. This is what’s it like to “be somewhere” without really feeling any connection to your surroundings, kids.

Mr. T Experience – Ba Ba Ba Ba

Lately I’ve been revisiting my 15 year-old self’s love of bay area pop-punk. The Mr. T Experience always struck me as a cut above the rest. Their love-lorn lyrics were always a little more clever than the majority of their snotty counterparts. The band’s frontman later on went to prove me right, by writing the clever and quirky “coming of age” novel, King Dork. This track comes from my favorite MTX album, Love Is Dead.

We all grew up on a steady diet of MTV’s 120 Minutes. Many a Sunday evening was spent zoned out in my parent’s living room, scribbling artist names on scraps of paper or notebook covers. This is our condensed, 21st century version where we highlight 4 videos (roughly 12 minutes) of visual goodness. Holiday Shores – Phones Don’t Feud

In case you haven’t noticed, we here at Colour Me Impressed are a sucker for a jangly guitar. So that’s why we (or at least I) am so excited about the Holiday Shores record that will be coming out this August on twosyllable records. The Needle Drop summed up their sound nicely, “The trebled six-string echoes of Abe Vigoda and the Walkmen are a good comparison, but you might find Holiday’s pop sensibility to be a little more straightforward.”

Wavves – No Hope Kids

Nathan Williams, the only person who is really “in” Wavves looks to be about 10 years old. And based on this video, the on-stage drug freakout shouldn’t have really be a surprise. However, it looks likes he’s having a good time, and the song’s still catchy, even if Psychedelic Horseshit hates him.

Crocodiles – Summer of Hate

Oh Crocodiles, your record is so good, even if you really bite hard on The Jesus and Mary Chain’s style (and what isn’t JAMC is Echo and the Bunnymen). But who are we kidding, we don’t particularly care.

Galaxie 500’s first 3 albums getting the reissue treatment – order it from www.fierybreeze.com. I’ll pick them up, sit in a hamock, drink lemonade and listen to “Way Up High.”

Beck serves up the jigsaw jazz and get fresh flow with a mix-tape on his site called Planned Obsolescence.
Pixies are touring for ‘Doolittle’ – or more accurately its anniversary. They’ve got shows lined up for Europe where they’ll be playing the album front to back along with the related B-sides.
- Carrie Brownstein (ex-Sleater Kinney) weighs in on the idea of playing an album in age of the shuffle function
Jens Lekman has H1N1 aka Swine Flu
Greymachine (Members of Jesu/Godflesh and Isis) is probably going to make your ears bleed, because there is no way you will be able to walk away from the sludgy, heavy bliss.
Cold Cave’s “Life Magazine” is up on MBV Music. This is a long way from Wes’s days performing with American Nightmare at the Mr. Roboto Project.
Pitchfork provides their list of Summer releases (even though the list goes through the end of October) – and we all hold our breath for the snarky reviews. I’m especially excited for the Susanna Hoffs & Matthew Sweet record.
Matablog gives us video of Jay Retard performing some of his new material live.
Layoffs at SPIN and Vibe’s shutting down. I’m a little worried that my ability to see Karren O camel-toe is going to go away.
