Wednesday kicks off the Conference USA and Big 12 conference tournaments with the second round of Big East play commencing. UCONN let their hopes of an at-large ticket to the NCAA tournament die with the lopsided loss to USF yesterday with several bubble teams in play today with USF vs Georgetown and Seton Hall vs Notre Dame. USF and Seton Hall are considered to need at least one more win to have a good shot at an at-large bid to the NCAA Tourney. The Northeast and Big Sky Conference tournament championships are also on tonight with Weber State and Quinnipiac being the two favorites.

NCAA Regionals – St Louis Midwest Regional

The 2010 NCAA Basketball Tournament Midwest Regionals will be held Friday March 26th and Sunday March 28th, 2010 in St Louis Missouri at the Edward Jones Dome. The Missouri Valley Conference will be hosting the event and the city last hosted the NCAA Tournament during the 2005 NCAA Final Four.
The Edward Jones Dome is located in downtown St Louis and is normally home to the NFL St Louis Rams. There is a maximum capacity of 66,000 to include a number of luxury and club seats. You can access the Dome via I-64, I-55, or I-44. If you decide to stay in a downtown St Louis hotel, you will be close to both the NCAA Tournament games as well as the downtown restaurants and nightlife.

NCAA Regionals – Houston South Regional Info

The 2010 NCAA Basketball Tournament South Regionals will be held Friday March 26th and Sunday March 28th, 1010 at Reliant Stadium in downtown Houston, Texas. Rice University and the University of Houston will be hosting the event.
Reliant Stadium is part of Reliant park and normally hosts the Houston Texans NFL football team. There is a total seating capacity of 70,000 and the stadium is located off of both I-45 and I-10. If you are not staying walking distance from the hotel, the METRO Rail runs from various locations around the city to the stadium to make parking easier. If you are traveling to Houston for the South regionals, staying in a downtown Houston hotel will put you walking distance from the NCAA tourney games. Houston will also be hosting the 2011 NCAA Final Four and 2016 Final Four.

The 2010 All Big East Basketball teams were selected by the Big East head coaches. The only restriction on voting during the selections was that a coach was not permitted to vote for one of their own players. The Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Rookie of the Year will be announced mid-way through the opening round of play in the Big East basketball tournament.

On the 2010 All Conference USA team, there are players that are part of five difference conference teams with three of the players be repeat winners from 2009. The players voted to the All Conference USA team include Aubrey Coleman of Houston, Ben Uzoh of Tulsa, Elijah Millsap of UAB, Elliot Williams of Memphis, and Randy Culpepper of UTEP. The players were selected by ballot vote with the Conference USA head coaches and media members from all conference cities taking part in the selection.
Aubrey Coleman
Aubrey Coleman finds his way to the first-team selection for the second straight season. He has been leading the NCAA in scoring at 26.0 ppg and was the Conference USA Player of the Week five times this season.
Ben Uzoh
Uzoh leads his team in scoring at 15.4 ppg and has made 45 three’s this year. He’s scored 400 or more points in three consecutive seasons.
Randy Culpepper
Culpepper was on the 3rd Team selection for Conference USA in 2009. He helped lead UTEP to their first Conference USA regular season title this season and is third in scoring in the conference at 18.1 ppg.
Elijah Millsap
Millsap averaged 16.0 ppg this season and led the league in rebounding at 9.3 rpg and had 15 double doubles this season.
Elliot Williams
Williams averages 18.5 ppg and has scored more than 20 16 times. He also averages 3.8 assists per game and has made 56 3 point shots this season.

The 2010 Conference USA Tournament is scheduled March 10-13 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The 2010 NCAA Basketball Tournament West Regionals will be held Thursday March 25th and Saturday March 27th, 2010 at the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. The University of Utah is the host of the event.
The West regional will be held at the EnergySolutions Arena that is in downtown Salt Lake City. The arena normally hosts the Utah Blaze (Arena Football) and the NBA’s Utah Jazz and has a maximum capacity of 19,11. There are also a fair number of club-level and luxury box seats at the stadium which is located off of I-80 and I-15 depending on which direction you are driving into town.
When traveling to Salt Lake City for the NCAA Tournament, you will want to consider staying in a downtown Salt Lake City hotel in order to be centrally located and to save on cab and gasoline costs.

John Wall Wins The Sporting News Freshman of the Year Award

John Wall was named the NCAA College Basketball Player of the Year by the Sporting News. Many fans had debated if he or teammate DeMarcus Cousins would win the award, but Wall ultimately won out. The other members of the first team announced by The Sporting News were Derrick Favors of Georgia Tech, Derrick Williams of Arizona, Xavier Henry of Kansas, and DeMarcus Cousins. Second team players were Elias Harris of Gonzaga, alec Burks of Colorado, C.J. McCollum of LeHigh, Kawhi Leonard of SDSU, and Hassan Whiteside of Marshall.

Of the frosh on the Sporting News first team, all but Derrick Williams are projected to be first round picks if they choose to go pro in the 2010 NBA draft.

This is the second straight year that one of Coach John Calipari’s players have won the award, with NBA sensation Tyreke Evans willing the award last year and being a first round lottery pick in the 2009 NBA draft.

2010 NCAA Bracketology – College Hoops Video March 9th

A fair bit of confusing play over the past several days with seven teams now clinching automatic bids to the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Illinois dropped a close one to Wisconsin moving them to my first four out. If they can beat Wisconsin in the first game of the 2010 Big Ten Conference Tournament, they will likely be back into the tournament. Another big game was St. Mary’s trouncing Gonzaga in the 2010 WCC Conference Tournament championship to remove them from the bubble with Gonzaga being considered a lock for an at-large bid. Some other changes noted in bold. Enjoy the final week before Selection Sunday and the kickoff of the 2010 NCAA Tournament!

There are 16 NCAA College Basketball games on Tuesday, March 9^th with the Big East Tournament kicking off and #12 Butler being on the only ranked team playing in the Horizon League Championship.

2010 NCAA Tournament Bubble Teams

Since we last wrote, Florida came back from a pending embarrassment against Kentucky to make the score respectable enough that they may not need to win a game in the 2010 SEC Tournament, but it would help Gator fans rest easier.

South Florida beat UCONN to put themselves in position to potentially obtain an at-large bid to the NCAA Tourney with a decent showing in the 2010 Big East Tournament.

Siena beat Fairfield in OT, 72-65 to clinch their third straight MAAC Conference Tournament championship.

Wofford clinched their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid with a 56-51 win over Appalachian State in the Southern Conference Tournament Championship.

ODU clinched the CAA Championship with a 60-53 win over William and Mary.

Sunday News:

Michigan State took care of Michigan to close out the regular season, 64-48.

Northern Iowa repeats as the MVC Conference Champion, winning 67-52 over Wichita State.

Illinois took a step back with their loss to Wisconsin. They’ll get another shot on a neutral court in the opening round of the 2010 Big Ten Conference Tournament.

Downtown Syracuse Hotels for the NCAA Tournament

The NCAA Tournament East Regional will be held in Syracuse, New York at the Carrier Dome On Thursday March 25^th and Saturday March 27^th. Syracuse University will be the host for the regional and will start with two sessions on Thursday evening with the final game being held on Saturday to determine the East Regional champion who will continue on to the 2010 Final Four.

If you’re traveling to Syracuse for the regional or other sporting events, staying in a downtown Syracuse hotel will put you close to the basketball games as well as the local restaurants and night life.

The Renaissance Hotel is located downtown and is close to the Carrier Dome and Syracuse University destinations. The Holiday Inn Syracuse is located near Syracuse University in the closeby town of Liverpool, New York. If you stay at the Holiday Inn, you’ll get the same features as those hotels located in Syracuse proper, but be less than a 10 minute drive from the Carrier Dome. The hotel features a restaurant with fireplace, a bar, a meeting room, and small fitness facility. The Jefferson Clinton Hotel is less than a mile from the University in the heart of downtown Syracuse. Although the Candlewood Suites is really a Syracuse Airport hotel, it is less than 4 miles from downtown Syracuse. All of the rooms at the hotel come with full kitchens, free high-speed wireless Internet, DVD players, and cable television.
