<p>Wonton is a Chinese cuisine made by placing a desired amount of filling onto a square wrapper, which is a dough skin usually made from flour, salt, water and egg.  Well, for our case, we bought the eggless ones. <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/vegetarian_wontons_2.jpg" alt="Vegetarian Wontons 2" /></p>
<p>Wonton is very popular as a side dish of noodle.  And therefore, there is wonton mee or wonton noodles.  However, today we are not going to talk about the noodle.  The side dish is now going to be the main attraction!</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/vegetarian_wontons_3.jpg" alt="Vegetarian Wontons 3" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/vegetarian_wontons_4.jpg" alt="Vegetarian Wontons 4" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/vegetarian_wontons_5.jpg" alt="Vegetarian Wontons 5" /></p>
<p>We usually have wontons when we go to vegetarian restaurants but today we have decided to make some of our own!  I did some online research as well as vegetarian recipe books for the filling.  At the end, it was somewhat a mixture of the researches and the memory of the filling&#8217;s tasted when we eat out! <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/vegetarian_wontons_6.jpg" alt="Vegetarian Wontons 6" /></p>
<p>We used cabbage, carrots, mushrooms and XiangShuJi (a kind of fake chicken meat made of soy) to make the filling.  Everything has to be finely chopped and mixed.  Then, I fried everything together until fragrant.  I added a bit of salt, pepper and soy sauce to taste.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/vegetarian_wontons_7.jpg" alt="Vegetarian Wontons 7" /></p>
<p>Meanwhile, Colin seperated the wonton wraps pieces by pieces.  When the filling has cooled down, he put the filling onto each piece and wrap it up.  He did a fantastic job!  Look at how they were all beautifully wrapped!  Beat the restaurants!  Haha&#8230; <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/vegetarian_wontons_8.jpg" alt="Vegetarian Wontons 8" /></p>
<p>We fried them instead of making wonton soup.  Both are as delicious though.  Why don&#8217;t you give it a try too?  Give us some feedback once you have tried. <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Next time, we will try the soup base wonton.</p>

<p>Yes, it contains different nutrients and mineral which are important to our health.</p>
<p>:p Most importantly, when it is cut into half, it gives good colour contrast on its lines to show its beauty created naturally and randomly.</p>

<p>We found <strong>kumato</strong> in a hypermarket some time ago, but we didn&#8217;t buy it until I read from <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumato">Wikipedia</a> that it contains more fructose which makes it sweeter than other tomatoes.  So we gave it a try.</p>

It is smaller than the orange-coloured &#8216;normal&#8217; tomato that we bought last week.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/kumato_tomato_4.jpg" alt="Kumato 04" /><br />
We bought a pack of six in a box.</p>
<p>When I have taken their photos inside my light box, and was halfway writting this post, I noticed that I have forgotten to take the photos of the inner look.  I quickly cut one of the kumatoes into pieces, arranged them on the cutting board, and tasted it.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/kumato_tomato_5.jpg" alt="Kumato 05" /></p>
<p>SiewPeng and I found that it is not as sweet as we expected, but not as sour as normal orange-coloured tomato.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/kumato_tomato_6.jpg" alt="Kumato 06" /><br />
This is how the box looks like.</p>

<p>When I go jogging, I usually take note of special plants or animals and beautiful views.  And if possible, I will try to take their pictures and share them here with everyone.</p>
<p>Well, during this particular jog that I had, I saw a mother and her son.  The child was probably around 2 to 3 years of age.  They were walking and suddenly he started to pull the edge of his mother&#8217;s blouse.  He was ignored.  So he did it again.  This time, she turned around and asked him what happened.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/mum_i_left_my_shoe_behind_2.jpg" alt="Mum, I left my shoe behind 2" /></p>
<p>He did not say a word but pointed to the direction where he had left one of his shoes behind.  She looked towards that direction and reprimanded the child for not telling her earlier that his shoe had dropped.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/mum_i_left_my_shoe_behind_3.jpg" alt="Mum, I left my shoe behind 3" /></p>
<p>I don&#8217;t think that I have to elaborate more on the situation.  He did try to tell her but she ignored him.  And this is just a small matter but let&#8217;s think about what if it was something much more serious?  Do you still think that ignorance is a bliss?</p>

<p>One morning when I was jogging at the park, I overheard a mother teaching her child to count as I was walking behind them.  The child was naive and very keen to learn.  She was holding her mother&#8217;s hand and they were walking slowly hand in hand while she was counting from number 191.  <strong>After she reached 199, she said 100-100 (one-hundred-one-hundred) instead of 200</strong>.</p>
<p>Although it was not a correct answer but her mother still reacted in a positive way and told her the right way to count.  She gave her praises and encouragement and her tone was full of joy and happiness.  The atmosphere was so calm and positive.</p>
<p>Parents play a very important role in a child&#8217;s development.  It determines how they handle and react to different matters when they grow up.  Do you agree?</p>

<p>In the last post, we showed you our encounter with the big butterfly as we were walking along the new walkway.  Today, we are showing you some of the views. :)  Let the journey begins!  First, we are welcomed by flags at the entrance.</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 02" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_02.jpg" /></p>
<p>The main characters are of course&#8230;Colin and SiewPeng!!! <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 03" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_03.jpg" /></p>
<p>We enjoyed walking on the walkway.  It is <strong>fully air-conditioned</strong> except the entrance but as you walk slightly further, you will start to feel the gentle breeze coming towards you as you make way through it.</p>
<p>We read from newspaper that this walkway is 562 meter long and 5 meter width, but we didn&#8217;t feel the distance at all.  The view from the walkway, and the new look of the environment distract us from feeling that it is half a kilometer.</p>
<p>It is a total different experience where we walk from KLCC to Bukit Bintang few weeks before it was launched.  Walking outside on footpath made us sweat under the hot sun, and we had to look left and right whenever we needed to cross a road.  Whereas now, we can enjoy walking in the cold air and enjoy the scenery on the walkway bridge.</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 04" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_04.jpg" /></p>
<p>Nuts and bolts!  Strong enough to withstand storms and protect the pedestrians so that we can do our shopping or sight seeing safe and sound.  Haha! <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 05" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_05.jpg" /><br />
Pedestrians and the walkway.</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 06" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_06.jpg" /></p>
<p>Can you guess what building can be seen from this angle of the walkway?  Try the building that has some blue letters on it.</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 07" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_07.jpg" /></p>
<p>Other views along the walkway.</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 08" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_08.jpg" /></p>
<p>From here, we are able to see the other side of the walkway.</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 09" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_09.jpg" /></p>

Sushi anyone??</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 11" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_11.jpg" /><br />
A carpark, but not too sure about its exact location.</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 12" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_12.jpg" /></p>

<p>Both Malaysians and foreigners benefit from the convenience that the walkway brings.</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 14" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_14.jpg" /></p>
<p>It saves us a lot of time and gives us shade from the hot sun and rain.</p>
<p><img alt="Walked on KLCC - Bukit Bintang Walkway 15" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/klcc_bukit_bintang_walkway_15.jpg" /></p>

<p>Where would you like to go from here? <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>There is still a slight bit of renovation work not done during our visit.  However, the second we went there, it was completed. <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /></p>

<p>It &#8216;was&#8217; a new walkway about 2 months ago.  We went there 3 days after the walkway was launched.  SiewPeng and I were welcomed by a big butterfly stopping on the external face of the glass of the walkway.</p>
<p>The butterfly kept on flipping its wings but it did not move away, I quickly used my mobile phone to take these pictures.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/encounter_butterfly_02.jpg" alt="An Encounter with Big Butterfly on a New Walkway 02" /></p>
<p>Can you guess which walkway is it before I tell you the answer?</p>
<p>It links up 2 popular shopping areas in a big city with the length of almost 1km, and it is air-conditioned.</p>
<p>I will show you more photos on this walkway in the coming posts.</p>
<p>++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++<br />
It is more than a month since this blog was last updated.  SiewPeng and I have been experiencing a new episode of our life.  We have settled down, and from now on we believe that we can spend more time on updating this blog.</p>
<p>For the coming weeks, you will expect to see the photos which I have taken since a month ago.</p>

<p>Happy <strong>Yuan Xiao Jie</strong> (also known as <strong>Chap Goh Meh</strong> in Hokkien) to everybody who celebrates Chinese New Year!</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/yuanxiaojie2012_b.jpg" alt="Yuan Xiao Jie 02" /></p>
<p>&#8220;Chap Goh&#8221; means 15 in the Hokkien dialect and &#8216;Meh&#8217; means night.  And Chinese New Year is usually celebrated for 15 days &#8221;traditionally&#8221; so the night of the fifteenth day marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebration.  It is also the <strong>Chinese Valentine&#8217;s Day</strong>.</p>
<p>All the Chinese radio stations are going to stop broadcasting Chinese New Year related songs and contents.  Shopping malls are also going to remove all their Chinese New Year decorations.  In order to enjoy this festive celebration and its atmosphere again, we will have to wait for the year to come.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/yuanxiaojie2012_c.jpg" alt="Yuan Xiao Jie 03" /></p>
<p>Well, here are some of the decorations that we have had the opportunity to get a glimpse of before they all disappear.</p>
<p><img alt="Yuan Xiao Jie 04" src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/yuanxiaojie2012_d.jpg" /></p>
<p>This is the year of dragon.  May the dragon brings good health, happiness and prosperity to everyone.</p>

<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_02.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 02" /><br />
We have taken our picture with the golden dragon at Sunway Pyramid.   The decorations are fantastic.</p>
<p>Unlike previous years we have taken the pictures of the <a href="http://colinjong.com/2009/02/07/chinese-new-year-cat-at-padungan-kuching/">cat statue in Kuching</a>, this year we are enjoying a quiet Chinese New Year in KL and we have just visited some of the largest shopping malls.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_03.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 03" /><br />
Lots of people were taking their pictures with the golden dragon too!</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_04.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 04" /><br />
There are effects like smoke.  Take a look at the dragon&#8217;s tail closely.  At random times, the smoke comes out from the dragon&#8217;s nose.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_05.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 05" /><br />
This is the dragon&#8217;s head.  The art work is nice and meticulous.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_06.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 06" /><br />
Opposite the golden dragon is a Chinese pagoda.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_07.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 07" /><br />
This is how the pagoda looks like from the top.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_08.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 08" /><br />
This is a larger view opposite the golden dragon.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_09.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 09" /><br />
There are fire balls hanging down from the center of the roof.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_14.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 14" /><br />
Inside the mall, there is a place for ice skating.  The red lanterns are above the skaters.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_10.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 10" /><br />
Before we left, we took some pictures outside Sunway Pyramid.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_11.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 11" /><br />
The side view of Sphinx.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_12.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 12" /><br />
As we walked further, we found a small roundabout decorated with lanterns, beautiful lights and flowers.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_13.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 13" /><br />
Lots of peach blossoms.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_19.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 19" /></p>
<p>We went to Pavillion at Bukit Bintang earlier this month, and we found a huge dragon there.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_20.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 20" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_21.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 21" /><br />
Colin, SiewPeng and the huge dragon at Pavillion, KL.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_22.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 22" /><br />
Once we entered the mall, there were children singing Chinese New Year songs on the stage.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_23.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 23" /><br />
Outside Pavillion, Bukit Bintang.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_15.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 15" /><br />
A few days before, we went to The Gardens Mall and found these cylinder lanterns.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_16.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 16" /></p>
<p>Instead of setting up the dragon statue, Midvalley Megamall used paper cutting lanterns, which is really nice and big and I think it is not an easy job to set them up though it seems easier than the dragon statue.  If you look closely, the patterns on the lanterns were cut and pieces of patterns were then stapled together.</p>
<p>And by the way, lantern in Mandarin has the same sound as dragon, which is &#8216;Loong&#8217;.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/happy_chinese_new_year_2012_kl_17.jpg" alt="Happy Chinese New Year 2012 KL 17" /><br />
SiewPeng with the Sphinx statue with red ribbon (decoration for Chinese New Year).</p>

And here we are again. <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Wishing everyone all the best in the year of Dragon! <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /></p>

<p>We eat at home more often now.  There aren&#8217;t many choices at where we live when it comes to vegetarian food.  Perhaps we haven&#8217;t been looking hard enough.  We used to take away economy rice, which is white rice with dishes to choose from and pack into a lunch box but that seems to be difficult to find here.  Most are non-vegetarians.  For lunch or dinner, we have two dishes with white rice.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/what_we_eat_now_02.jpg" alt="What We Eat Now 02" /></p>
<p>Sometimes, we have other things like vegetarian sushi.  They are made with vegetarian sausages or soy &#8216;chicken pieces&#8217;.  With some mashed potatoes added in, the sushi taste marvelous!  Lately, a new flavor has been invented, corn kernel salad, which is a good combination for sushi too!</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/what_we_eat_now_03.jpg" alt="What We Eat Now 03" /></p>
<p>We also use bread as pizza base to make vegetarian pizzas.  Nowadays, they sell readily mixed pizza cheese toppings and it is so easy to use.  Just cut some tomatoes and capsicums, lay them on the bread, spread the cheese on top and put them in the oven.  Within a matter of minutes, you will be served with hot and yummy pizzas!</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/what_we_eat_now_04.jpg" alt="What We Eat Now 04" /></p>
<p>Well, there you go!  Some of the food that we eat now.  We intend to try more new things and keep you updated soon!</p>

This is one of my favorite food - <strong>Vegetarian Nyonya Fried Rice</strong>.  I tried it at a vegetarian restaurant near the place where I live now.  The price is quite reasonable, but the portion is too small.  What do you think about its plate presentation?</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_eating_alone_02.jpg" alt="What I have eaten when I lived alone 02" /><br />
This is the <strong>vegetarian mushroom noodle</strong>.  I tried it in a food court in a shopping mall.  Like it, except it is a bit salty.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_eating_alone_03.jpg" alt="What I have eaten when I lived alone 03" /><br />
Most of the time when I had lunch with my colleagues, we went to an Indian restaurant.  It is a new type of food to me, since I have never tried it when I was in Kuching.</p>
<p>The way of eating is special, there is no plate, but we use banana leaves.  We have an option to eat with our hand also, but I have never tried and I am not going to try as well.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_eating_alone_04.jpg" alt="What I have eaten when I lived alone 04" /></p>
<p>After finish eating the banana leave rice, I was told by my colleague that we should fold it to tell that we have finished with it.  There is a way to tell if the food is delicious by the folding direction, but my colleagues are not sure about it, and most people just simply fold it.</p>
<p>Out of all the food I ate in different restaurants, Indian vegetarian food is the cheapest.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_eating_alone_05.jpg" alt="What I have eaten when I lived alone 05" /><br />
Every Friday night, I went to the night market to buy this &#8220;<strong>Peanut Pancake</strong>&#8220;.  I like to see the seller cut it into pieces from a big round pancake.  He usually cuts a few horizontal lines and then cut them diagonally again to make them into triangular shape.</p>
<p>There was one time when I was queuing to buy a few pieces for my dinner, I heard someone in front of me told the hawker that he wanted the pieces to be cut out from the border.  Yes, the border is crispier, but also harder to bite.</p>
<p>The smell of peanut makes me mouth watering when they are served hot.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_eating_alone_06.jpg" alt="What I have eaten when I lived alone 06" /><br />
Ice-cream is my dessert after I have my dinner.  I have finished 3 boxes in 2 months.  And this is my favorite flavour - Lava.</p>

I always buy this fruit from the night market as well.  This is called &#8220;<strong>yacon</strong>&#8220;.  In Chinese it is called &#8220;<strong>XueLianGuo</strong>&#8220;, which means the <strong>fruit of icy lotus</strong>.  It tastes like pear.  It can be cooked, but I like to eat it raw.</p>
<p>++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++</p>
<p>SiewPeng has come here and I am not living alone anymore.  I have brought SiewPeng to try the vegetarian restaurants I have been to, and bought the same things from the night market.  They are our favorite food now.</p>

<p>I started to cook &#8220;again&#8221; for myself while I was living alone for the last quarter of 2011.  It was about 8 years ago when I last touched the stove.</p>
<p>I try to make things easy, but it seems not really easy.  The easiest way is to go to a restaurant or a hawker stall to have my meals, but there is not much choice in my area (since I am a vegetarian), and it is neither economically efficient nor healthy.</p>
<p>Therefore, I cooked my own meals &#8220;sometimes&#8221;.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_02.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 02" /></p>
<p>There was one time I cooked 60% of dried mushroom with 40% of green (it seems like an unusual ratio), because I didn&#8217;t buy enough vegetables.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_03.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 03" /></p>
<p>This recipe is given by SiewPeng, and it is very easy to prepare.</p>
<p>I cut the carrots, potatoes and tomatoes into pieces, boil them in water and add some salt, done!  - My favorite soup.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_04.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 04" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_05.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 05" /></p>
<p>Another meal I like to cook is the porridge.  I do not have to measure how much water I need to add to the rice, and just put all the ingredients into it.</p>
<p>To make life easier, I prefer to use an electronic stove, I am also worried about explosion if I use a gas cylinder.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_06.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 06" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_07.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 07" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_08.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 08" /></p>
<p>I also ate some canned food.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_09.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 09" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_10.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 10" /></p>
<p>I fried hash brown.  I have a few metal bowls, the reflection makes the food seems like duplicated.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_11.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 11" /><br />
These are the ingredients I added into my porridge.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_12.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 12" /><br />
These are the ingredients I used for frying spiral macaroni.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_13.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 13" /><br />
50% of spiral macaroni + 50% of add-on (mixed-vegi, greens and mushroom).</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_14.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 14" /><br />
This is tomato version of fried spiral macaroni.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_15.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 15" /><br />
I fried rice twice only after I have got a rice cooker.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_16.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 16" /></p>
<p>Sometimes I used shortcut when I was lazy to prepare food. - Instant Noodle.  However, I don&#8217;t like the taste.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_17.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 17" /><br />
This was even easier.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/food_lived_alone_18.jpg" alt="What I have cooked when I lived alone 18" /></p>
<p>I bought an apron and used it not only when I was cooking, but also when I washed dishes to prevent water splashing onto my clothes. <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':P' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><strong>The tough part of my life has gone because now SiewPeng has joined me for a new living environment.  She prepared the most delicious food for me, and I want to thank her</strong>.</p>
<p>Next I will show you the food I ate in restaurants, sometimes with my colleague, sometimes I ate alone, and sometimes I bought it and ate at home.</p>

<p>A new year has just arrived on our doorstep.  Are you ready to open the door and welcome the future?  There is a very good Chinese saying.  <strong>A day&#8217;s plan starts in the morning, a year&#8217;s plan starts in spring.</strong>  Have you listed out your 2012 resolutions?  If you haven&#8217;t, it is never too late to do it. <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>I am sure that everybody must have been through many different stages in life.  Sometimes, it takes a lot of courage to move out of our comfort zone and deal with the challenges which lie ahead of us.  Let&#8217;s be stronger this year and face all the hardship that we have been running away from!</p>
<p>Wishing everybody a happy, healthy and prosperous 2012!</p>

From what I have discovered within these few weeks, I have learned that first thing first is important in order to prepare a meal efficiently.

<p>I have visited KL for quite a few times in the past, but have never come during this festive season.  I am surprised to find that there are Kolam(s) in all of the shopping malls I have just been to recently.</p>
<p>Instead of 3D decorations (which can usually be seen in shopping malls), this time I saw a 2D decoration.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deepavali_kolam_rangoli_08.jpg" alt="Happy Deepavali 2011 - Kolam at Shopping Malls 08" /></p>
<p>Kolam is a type of painting painted with coloured rice powder.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deepavali_kolam_rangoli_09.jpg" alt="Happy Deepavali 2011 - Kolam at Shopping Malls 09" /></p>
<p>I noticed that most of them have peacocks as their theme.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deepavali_kolam_rangoli_10.jpg" alt="Happy Deepavali 2011 - Kolam at Shopping Malls 10" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deepavali_kolam_rangoli_11.jpg" alt="Happy Deepavali 2011 - Kolam at Shopping Malls 11" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deepavali_kolam_rangoli_12.jpg" alt="Happy Deepavali 2011 - Kolam at Shopping Malls 12" /></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deepavali_kolam_rangoli_13.jpg" alt="Happy Deepavali 2011 - Kolam at Shopping Malls 13" /></p>
<p>Some of these decorations are labeled as Rangoli.  I don&#8217;t really know about their differences.</p>
<p>There are 2 separate entries in wikipedia on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rangoli">Rangoli</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolam">Kolam</a>.  From what I understand, Kolam is a type of Rangoli?  Correct me if it is wrong.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deepavali_kolam_rangoli_14.jpg" alt="Happy Deepavali 2011 - Kolam at Shopping Malls 14" /><br />
Other Deepavali decorations at a shopping mall.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/deepavali_kolam_rangoli_15.jpg" alt="Happy Deepavali 2011 - Kolam at Shopping Malls 15" /></p>
<p>I thought of going to Batu Caves (KL) today, and see how crowded it is but I have other plans.  I recalled someone told me that it will be more crowded during Thaipusam.</p>
<p>I will wait for SiewPeng to join me in KL and we are going to visit Batu Caves during the festive season, and I am sure that we will have a true life experience on how crowded it is.</p>
<p>I believe that there might still have a comfortable space between people so that visitors can still move around even it seems very crowded from the pictures (same thing as a picture of a crowded shopping mall), compared to the space on KTM train (city route) where the space on the train is sometimes zero or negative (terribly squeezed among human).</p>
<p>Once again, Happy Deepavali to everyone. <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /></p>

<p>Our tortoise has not been very active for some time.  We were quite worried about him and we really don&#8217;t want to lose him, which is our only pet now.  We took him to the vet the other day and she said that he is lacking in vitamins and maybe we should consider changing his &#8216;house&#8217;.  And we did.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/turtle_basking_a_pleasant_warmth_01.jpg" alt="Basking - A Pleasant Warmth 01" /></p>
<p>We bought him a round box instead of the usual rectangular ones.  I was quite attracted by the accessories that are mounted to the center of the box.  There is a bridge, a coconut tree and something like a ladder.  And I like the little slope too.  Initially, he was still not moving much in his new home.  Then, we put him nearer to the windows.  And one fine afternoon, I found him basking on that little slope!</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/turtle_basking_a_pleasant_warmth_03.jpg" alt="Basking - A Pleasant Warmth 03" /></p>
<p>And the next minute, he was &#8216;climbing up&#8217; the ladder!  He pressed himself against the ladder with his front legs stretched out.  It was such an adorable sight!  I have not seen him gone up the bridge though.  I hope Mr Tortoise likes his new place! <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /></p>

<p>The boat was full of chattering sound.  Everyone, including us, were excited during the departure as well as on our way back.  Friends and family exchanging news and recent happenings around the world.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/boat_to_pangkor_02.jpg" alt="Boat to Pangkor Island 02" /></p>
<p>This is the jetty.  There were different boats.  You might have to be careful when getting on the boat on your way back because we noticed that the authorities (or no authorities) didn&#8217;t check our tickets at the jetty.  However, our tickets were briefly checked when we got back to the resort where we departed.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/boat_to_pangkor_03.jpg" alt="Boat to Pangkor Island 03" /></p>
<p>The staircase to&#8230;. heaven? Haha :D  If our thoughts are positive and at peace, everywhere is heaven, do you agree?</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/boat_to_pangkor_04.jpg" alt="Boat to Pangkor Island 04" /></p>
<p>This part of the boat seems to be quite hot.  It could be the weather or the air-conditioner compressors.  On that day, I think it was both.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/boat_to_pangkor_05.jpg" alt="Boat to Pangkor Island 05" /></p>
<p>As the boat was moving, you could enjoy the warm sea breeze while looking at the sea view.  If you are lucky, you might even see some fish performing acrobatic actions in front of you! :) <strong> We were fortunate enough to see a long-shaped fish jumping on the surface of the water.  It happened in a matter of seconds! </strong></p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/boat_to_pangkor_06.jpg" alt="Boat to Pangkor Island 06" /><br />
Ahem~~no entry!  Strictly for the captain only!</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/boat_to_pangkor_07.jpg" alt="Boat to Pangkor Island 07" /></p>
<p>Time flies.  Happy time flies even faster.  It is time to go but we will be back again.</p>
<p>This is the final post for our Pangkor trip in August 2011.</p>

<p>On the left, it is the <strong>Pangkor Island</strong> which connected to where I was standing.</p>
<p>On the right, it is the <strong>Mentagor Island</strong>.</p>
<p>There is a small area on the right, in front of Mentagor Island.  It is called <strong>Giam Island</strong>.</p>

<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/small_island_pangkor_03.jpg" alt="Small Islands Near Pangkor 03" /><br />
Giam Island is really small, and from the map it is less than 400 meters from main Pangkor Island.  It is popular for snorkeling.</p>
<p>I have not experienced it, but from what I have read, it might be possible to walk to that island during low tide.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/small_island_pangkor_04.jpg" alt="Small Islands Near Pangkor 04" /></p>
<p>These were what the visitors doing at Giam Island.</p>

<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/small_island_pangkor_07.jpg" alt="Small Islands Near Pangkor 07" /></p>
<p>At first I thought this is a river mouth, but it is not.  It is the &#8220;<strong>islands&#8217; mouth</strong>&#8220;.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/small_island_pangkor_08.jpg" alt="Small Islands Near Pangkor 08" /></p>
<p>Teluk Nipah (Nipah Bay) is facing these 2 islands (Giam &amp; Mentagor), therefore there are many water sports there such as banana boat and kayaking.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/small_island_pangkor_09.jpg" alt="Small Islands Near Pangkor 09" /></p>

<p>Not far from the Lin Je Kong Temple, there is a stone area next to the coral beach.</p>
<p>From what I observed on many beaches, stone areas usually appear at the headland/cape (antonym: bay).  This area usually gets stronger hit by waves (I still remember my secondary Geography lesson :p ).</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/stone_on_beack_pangkor_02.jpg" alt="Stones Area on the Beach, Pangkor 02" /></p>
<p>According to one of the photography rules, objects should not be positioned in the middle; the person in the photo above is in the middle, but the &#8220;mouth&#8221; between the islands is not.   Compared to the first photo, which one do you think is better?</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/stone_on_beack_pangkor_04.jpg" alt="Stones Area on the Beach, Pangkor 04" /></p>
<p>This is a typical photo of the waves hitting the stones.  I didn&#8217;t bring my tripod, else I will use an ND filter to take a long shutter shot to create smooth lines of waves.  Next visit, I will stay longer and bring my tripod.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/stone_on_beack_pangkor_05.jpg" alt="Stones Area on the Beach, Pangkor 05" /></p>
<p>Well, you may ask how to reach this place if you have never been to Pangkor Island.  It is not far from the Lin Je Kong Temple.  At another end of the temple, there is a bridge and staircase.  The stone area is right across the bridge.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/stone_on_beack_pangkor_06.jpg" alt="Stones Area on the Beach, Pangkor 06" /></p>

We found a group of visitors looking at something, I don&#8217;t know what they were looking at.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/stone_on_beack_pangkor_11.jpg" alt="Stones Area on the Beach, Pangkor 11" /><br />
As usual, stones which contact with sea usually have sea shells sticking onto them.</p>
<p>The entire process for us to explore this stones area was only about 5 minutes.  We had to be quick, someone was waiting for us.  I just snapped and go.</p>
<p>Travel with people who don&#8217;t like to travel (but only like to eat) is not an easy job.  My direction is sightseeing and taking photos, but theirs are looking for food.  SiewPeng and I are vegetarian, where can we find our food in an small island?</p>

<p>We walked up the hill and found this gourd-shaped big red pot.  It is used for planting bamboo.  As I know bamboo (especially purple bamboo) is related to &#8220;GuanYin&#8221;.</p>

<p>The red Chinese word on the stone is pronounced as &#8220;<strong>Nian</strong>&#8221; which means &#8220;<strong>Thought</strong>&#8220;.  This single word is formed by 2 sub-word.  The upper part is &#8220;<strong>Jin1</strong>&#8221; which means <strong>current moment</strong>, and lower part is &#8220;<strong>Xin1</strong>&#8221; which mean <strong>heart</strong>.  When 2 words combined become 1 word, it means <strong>what is currently in your heart</strong> = <strong>thought</strong>.</p>
<p>This is the beauty of Chinese word.</p>
<p>The word &#8220;Nian&#8221; actually cannot be exactly defined by the word &#8220;thought&#8221;.  The meaning is close but the concept might be different.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_b08.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 2 - 08" /></p>
<p>I believe that &#8220;thought&#8221; is as powerful as action, and it is actually an action in our mind which will lead to create another potential action.</p>
<p>I keep on telling myself that positive thought is important.</p>

<p>We were told by the pink taxi driver that there is a temple at the far end of the road.  We walked quite a distance (at least few hundred meters along the road and through part of the beach) and finally we reached there.</p>

There is a small bridge to access the temple.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_a03.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 1 - 03" /><br />
At the footpath towards the temple, looking towards the beach and the sea.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_a04.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 1 - 04" /></p>
<p>There is an artistic hut near the entrance but outside the temple.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_a05.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 1 - 05" /><br />
And there is a big turtle statue.</p>
<p>From here,  we started to take photos of ourselves &#8220;crazily&#8221;. <img src='http://colinjong.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_a06.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 1 - 06" /><br />
There is a stone labeled with &#8220;<strong>De2Yin1</strong>&#8221; which means the<strong> voice of moral</strong>.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_a07.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 1 - 07" /></p>
<p>We snapped ourselves quite fast because there were people waiting for us to pose at the decorated feature surrounding the temple.  We were also waiting for someone until our turn to take the photo there.  This happens when you travel on a public holiday.</p>
<p>Sometimes, we &#8220;accidentally&#8221; included other visitors and passers-by in our photo because we really can&#8217;t wait for too long.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_a08.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 1 - 08" /></p>
<p>The wall was painted in plain gray and the door and railing are in yellow.  They were highlighted with red lines.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_a09.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 1 - 09" /></p>
<p>This design looks like the great wall, but later I found a mini great wall there and we had missed it.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_a10.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 1 - 10" /><br />
Mushroom.</p>
<p><img src="http://colinjong.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/lin_je_kong_temple_pangkor_a11.jpg" alt="Lin Je Kong Temple, Pangkor - Part 1 - 11" /></p>

<p>The red Chinese words are &#8220;<strong>XiangFeng</strong>&#8221; which mean <strong>meet by chance</strong>.</p>
<p>++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++</p>
<p>SiewPeng&#8217;s parents came with us to this island, but they were too tired to walk to this temple.  We didn&#8217;t let them wait for us too long, and I snapped the photos as fast as I can.  Although it was only about half an hour there, I have taken about hundred photos of ourselves.</p>
<p>Next, I will show you more of our photos taken in this Lin Je Kong Temple.</p>
