We love to drink a fine cognac each day if possible. Drinking every day doesn’t necessarily mean getting drunk, when alcohol is consumed in moderation it can help you live longer. It’s not a myth, numerous medical studies have supported the fact that drinking alcohol in moderation can indeed make you healthier and help you cure certain diseases. To stress the fact that drinking is ok but in moderation, we thought we would talk a bit about it.

Myth Vs. Fact

Due to increasing number of drunk driving related death, society has made alcohol something of an evil thing to do (drunk driving IS evil). There are people that don’t seem to realize when enough is enough and for those these facts won’t matter either. When you drink alcohol in moderation it can help you live longer and healthier. Although for some it might just be a myth, it’s a fact which has been shown through countless studies. A Harvard study found the risk of death from all causes to be 21% to 28% lower among men who drank alcohol moderately, compared to abstainers. There are many other studies that have been conducted in regards to moderate drinking and almost every single one of them point that if alcohol is consumed in moderation, it can help you live longer than abstainers or heavy drinkers. Moderate drinking can help you live longer. It’s a fact.

Avoid Heart Diseases

Heart attack has become one of the biggest causes of death in US and all over the world. Couple years ago hearing in news about someone young dying because of a heart attack was rare, now it’s common. Drinking in moderation can help you avoid heart attack. Once again please note that we are talking about moderation. Alcohol can help you avoid heart diseases as it has been noted that moderate consumption can actually decrease thrombosis (blood clotting), increase coronary blood flow and reduce blood insulin level among many other things. Also people who have suffered from heart attack can avoid chances of another one by drinking moderately. In a study of 353 first time heart attack survivors, researchers found that men who consumed an average of two drinks of alcohol per day were 59% less likely than non-drinkers to have another heart attack.

Go For Cognac, The Healing Drink

Of course we are a little bias when it comes to our beloved drink. The process of producing cognac is older than anyone who is currently reading this post. Cognac is a pure product and is free of any additives that you may find in other alcoholic beverages. People around the world love cognac not just for the taste but for all the health benefits it provides as well. To stress the fact that cognac is one of the best medicine if drank in moderation we would like to include a statement from organic-lafragette,

The town of Cognac lies in the department of the Charente where many people live to over the age of one hundred and it appears that life expectancy there is higher than the national average. This appears to be due to the fact that Cognac is drunk there on a daily basis.

Give it a try if you haven’t already. Trust us, you will be around reading blogs and hanging out on the web lot longer by drinking cognac than any other drinks .

Before we end the post, we would like to stress one more time that when we say drinking alcohol is good, we mean in moderation. Anything that is done more than it should can create problems and alcohol is no different. Avoid heavy drinking, avoid driving even if you have had one sip of alcohol and drink moderately. Alcohol is good and will help you live longer and healthier if you drink it in moderation. It’s a fact and not just a myth. Give cognac a try. If you need recommendation feel free to contact us or leave a comment here and we will be glad to help you pick one.

The first part will cover how cognac comes to the market. Unlike many other alcoholic beverages, cognac has to go through a rigorous process to be available for consumption. The second part we will cover how cognac is made through an image.

When it comes to commercialization of alcohol there are certain rules and regulations that needs to be followed. When marketing alcoholic beverages in US there are certain laws and regulations that every producer needs to abide by and the same is true for cognac as well. During commercialization of cognac there is even strict regulation since cognac is one of the most well renowned drinks.

There are many rules that each and every producer needs to follow before they can sell cognac in the market. Although these rules might sound easy to follow and the process may seem simple in words, when put in action, cognac commercialization is one of the hardest in industry since it has to undergo through many tough stages, the first being the aging process itself. Here are some of the rules that every cognac house should follow during commercialization of cognac :

1. Cognac can only be aged in a storage facility that has been registered by the BNIC. This is required to obtain the certificate that guarantees the age and origin of cognac.

2. The aging must always take place in oak casks.

3. The minimum alcohol content to be sold in France or abroad should be 40% alcohol by volume.

4. No additives can be added.

5. The label on a cognac bottle should mention the following :

Denomination

Bottle content

Alcohol content

Name or trademark of the address of producer, vendor or the bottler established within the European Community

AOC (Appellation d’origine contrôlée) is preferred but not mandatory.

6. The minimum aging period is two years before cognac can be sold in the market.

Producers who fail to respect these regulations are not allowed to use the name “cognac” to preserve the integrity and prestige that cognac holds all over the world. Although these rules and regulations may seem simple to follow, they are pretty tough ones. We will be covering more in detail as we go since we are just getting started. In the meantime, we just wanted to give you a quick glimpse into what follows before the cognac can be sold in the market.

Now that we have covered the commercialization part of cognac, let’s take a look at the production process. Please click on the image below to see an enlarged version which outlines how cognac is made.

However, just because we and other cognac drinker like it a certain way doesn’t necessarily mean it should be the same way for everyone else. Cognac is a fine drink that should be enjoyed the way you want.

Whether you want to drink it neat (the way we like to) or as a mixed drink should be your choice. Most of the talks that are out there about cognac is nothing but generalization. Therefore, today we are set out to break the monotony on what is cognac and how it should be drank once and for all.

Cognac Is a Man’s Drink

We hear this statement quite often. Every time we are around a bunch of cognac loving people who love a stiff drink, that’s the word that comes out of their mouth. Although many people think that cognac is a man’s drink, it is pure ignorance to think that cognac can’t be enjoyed by women. As a matter of fact, more cognac brands are focusing on making cognac appealing to women so as to enter this demographic. We as cognac drinkers should stop following the cliche and realize the fact that cognac can be enjoyed whether you are a man or a woman.

The statement “cognac is a man’s drink” is nothing but cliche. Cognac is an everyone’s drink and categorizing it to a certain demographic or basing it on a sexual preference is just plain wrong. So next time you are enjoying a glass of cognac, keep the “cognac is a man’s drink” statement to yourself and know it’s a drink for everyone and not just for “the man.”

Cognac Shouldn’t Be Mixed

Once again, who are we to judge whether anyone can drink mixed cognac drinks or not? We can certainly echo our preference but we can’t categorize and say “cognac shouldn’t be drank as a mixed drink.” We ourselves prefer drinking cognac straight, without any ice or any other mix to it, however, if someone prefers to add coke, orange juice or a few cubes of ice, it’s their choice. It is just not a viable option to say that “cognac isn’t a mixed drink.” The more we accept these facts the more mainstream the already popular cognac will go, which in turn will help us spread the word about this fine drink.

There is a reason we see so many mixed cognac drinks, one of the most popular one being cognac summit. And although we enjoy cognac neat, we’ll admit cognac summit is a mixed cognac drink we will try any day. The statement “cognac shouldn’t be mixed” may be your’s and our preference, but throwing that out to anyone who wants to try it out is just wrong. We can’t generalize cognac, it’s a choice how anyone wants to drink it.

Cognac Is For The Rich and Famous

We have tried to break this notion many times but it deserves a place on this list. We agree that some cognac drinks run pretty high in terms of dollar, however, not all cognac drinks are expensive. There are many, many fine cognac drinks that are almost affordable by anyone who can afford a six pack of beer. Trust us, it’s not all that expensive and it’s not “out of reach” for many as media likes to put it. The reason why most think cognac is only for the rich and famous is because media only talks about cognac as an expensive drink. We never hear anyone talk about a great cognac drink for $25 but anytime it runs over couple thousand dollars and there are press releases everywhere.

We are not saying that expensive cognac are expensive for the sake of it. After all, a cognac that has been stored for 30 years deserves a couple thousand dollars. But let’s face it, cognac is an affordable drink and the more we accept this fact and educate others, the more often we might see our beloved drink talked about and enjoyed by many.

Are you a Cognac drinker? What do you think?

Well, there you have it. We had to point these facts out. We hear so many generalized concept of cognac each day that we thought we would lay it out and say it as it is. It just isn’t fair or smart to categorize cognac as a “a wise man’s drink,” ” a drink for rich and famous,” or that “cognac shouldn’t be mixed.” We have all contributed to making it that way but let’s stop now. It’s about time people know cognac is more than that and the best thing we can all do is stop generalizing it cause cognac is much more, much much more than what is portrayed by many.

Share your thoughts.

But we thought we’d take one moment to venture beyond those finer things into the world of the truly exotic. What we found is an assortment of alcoholic beverages you have to see to believe.

The drink below are some that are easily some of the weirdest ones that are out there. If you have tried any of these, do share with us what you thought of them. We have yet to try them and to be honest we doubt we will, however, we would love to know if you have.

Cobra Scorpion Whiskey

There’s something about putting oneself in close proximity to lethally poisonous creatures that really gets the adrenaline flowing. A shot of whiskey is bold enough on its own, but infuse it with the toxins from snake venom and a scorpion stinger, and you’re well on your way to starring in the sequel to The Hangover. The drink is fabled to be a strong aphrodisiac with many curative applications—or it might just be a really expensive pair of beer goggles.

Baby Mouse Wine

The name isn’t a euphemism for cute and cuddly. It’s wine made from newborn mice (drowned and bottled in rice wine before the fur grows in). Like many exotic drinks, this concoction is believed to cure a lot of ills, foremost among them a stuffed-up nose—after a year of fermentation, the wine is pretty pungent. The taste has been compared to gasoline, and the look of it is probably the grossest thing about it—which really is saying something.

Tiger Bone Wine

Not that you’re running to find a bottle of any of these delicacies, but this is one you especially want to scratch of your “Go Out and Buy” list. As rare and sought after as tiger parts can be on the Chinese black market, the animals themselves are even more endangered. The wine is infused with a fine powder of crushed tiger bone, and the bottle pictured here is actually enclosed in a tiger-shaped cask. The potency of the drink is mythical, but the cost can’t be measured by the sticker price alone.

Bear Penis Wine

Does this one really require an explanation? It’s supposed to boost fertility in men. It has a decidedly different effect on the bear.

Kumis

Kumis is one of the oldest known alcoholic beverages known to man, but the main product comes from a horse. Fermented mare’s milk grew to popularity in ancient Mongolia where, ironically, almost 90% of the population is lactose intolerant. Fortunately for them, the lactose is broken down during fermentation. The drink has pretty mild alcoholic content, but its drinkers believe it to possess (you guessed it) curative powers, especially chronic diseases such as tuberculosis. Not surprisingly, it tastes a bit like sour milk. Feel free to take our word for it.

Bakon Vodka

A lot of people like vodka. A whole lot of people love bacon. But it takes a special connoisseur of both to appreciate bacon-flavored vodka. A meat and potatoes combination doesn’t seem all that bizarre. The potato vodka and bacon flavoring have the potential to be a hit, and bacon-based drinks have developed something of a cult following. If you’re a fan of drinks that venture into the savory end of the taste spectrum, you might want to give it a try.

No, the perfect drink is captured in a moment when time stands still and the finest pleasures of life stop for your enjoyment.

Obviously, we at Cognac.com have a pretty firm belief in what you can pour into your glass to make the perfect drink, but right now we’re counting down the ten most important elements to make the experience exquisite.

10. The Perfect Cigar

With a drink that relies so heavily on a robust and varied bouquet of aromas, it only makes sense to complement that arrangement with the enchanting smoke of a fine cigar. The perfect blend is a matter of personal taste, but Cigar Aficionado has an excellent guide for pairing your choice of cognac with a cigar that make a perfect match for your moment.

9. The Perfect Place

This is not a drink for tailgates and frat parties. In fact, unless the bar is an especially intimate favorite, I’d much prefer to enjoy a snifter of cognac by the fireplace at home. That’s really the secret phrase—at home. To appreciate the finest drink in the world, it helps to find a spot where you feel the most comfortable. No distractions, no competing odors, and nothing else to stop you from enjoying a relaxing drink on the road to perfect serenity.

8. The Perfect Friend

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “A friend may well be reckoned the masterpiece of nature.” There’s no question that you can enjoy a good stiff drink when you need a moment alone, but I find that the best drinks are the ones you share alongside a confidant. Our best moments are reserved for the people we care the most about.

7. The Perfect Food

There really is no limit to the foods that a fine glass of cognac can make better. Depending on the age and type of drink, you can pair cognac with anything from a rack of ribs to a dish of crème brulée. I won’t say no to some fine chocolates that invite bitter and sweet to the party of taste and aroma.

6. The Perfect Moment

No one has a perfect life, and no one can guarantee a perfect day—but complaints are for the lazy and the weak. The people who enjoy the finer things in life are the ones who take the time to set aside moments for themselves. When you can push pause on your troubles, even if it’s just for half an hour, that perfect drink becomes a welcome refuge of peace instead of just a way to drown your misery.

5. The Perfect Glass

We recommend a tulip-shaped wine glass or a sifter—essentially, you want a glass that will rest easily in your palm, allowing your hand to gradually warm the drink and swirl it around, stirring up the aromatic vapors, captured by the narrower opening at the top for the richest possible experience all for you.

4. The Perfect Pace

If you’ve carved out the perfect moment in the middle or at the end of a hectic day, the perfect drink slows everything down to a much more comfortable pace. As you hold the drink in your hand for several minutes, the anticipation is tantalizing, but the wait is well worthwhile. You stop to smell the fruity textures and robust aromas inherited from years of impeccable, artisan aging. And even when the cognac first touches your lips, you don’t dive in, but allow a single sip to coat your mouth in preparation for the perfection that follows. This drink, this moment, brings time to a standstill—there’s a reason we call it perfect.

3. The Perfect Conversation

There are thoughts that come to mind only when you’ve reached a true mindset of peace, relaxation, and inspiration. When you enjoy the perfect drink with the perfect someone—whether it’s romantic or just a strong friendship—those conversations are the ones you remember forever.

2. The Perfect Drink

There are a lot of fine drinks out there, but cognac has that special place in our hearts. Quite simply, we think it is the crowning jewel of perfection.

1. The Perfect Plans

You don’t really want this drink to end, but all good things—even the perfect things in life—must do exactly that. But the great thing about enjoying that ideal moment with the people, the food, and the drink you love, is that it leaves you with a sense of motivation, of What next? You’re ready to face the world, pursue your dreams, and live the life you imagined. Does cognac make it possible? No. It just gives you pause to remind yourself that anything is.

There you have it, ten essentials for enjoying the perfect drink. Enjoy your weekend.

There is a reason it is also called “the healing drink” or “the live water.” Please note that as with anything else this is when consumed in moderation. Think of it as a pill that might help you relieve some pain. You can take one or two and it will help you with your pain, but if you consume more than you should, it will have an adverse affect.

Lets go ahead and see why cognac is one of the best drinks when it comes to your health.

1. Cognac is rich in polyphenol which occur naturally in grapes.

2. Cognac is a pure product. It is low in natural sugar and is free of any other additives.

3. The older cognac such as XO cognac are considered to have great health benefits since they are aged in oak barrels for many years. The ripening in the oak barrel helps cognac achieve its health benefits as well. Some constituents found in oak barrels such as ellagic acid can have a significant antioxidant effect.

4. If you ever get a cold, forget taking pills. Cognac helps widen blood vessels and relieves headaches.

5. If you drink cognac regularly (around 15 ml a day), it is said to protect you against heart diseases.

There are many other health reasons that are associated with cognac. But the ones mentioned above are some major ones.

Now that we have shared some health benefits of cognac, we would like to talk how cognac can use a proper mainstream image as a healthy drink. Hopefully, more cognac brands will take our suggestion and utilize this method to make cognac a drink even more people would love and enjoy.

People today are concerned about their health. People want healthy foods and a healthy way of living. Fast foods have started catering more towards the healthy eaters and so has the alcohol industry. When it comes to health, cognac is one of the best drinks that if taken in moderation can be of immense value. Cognac is called “the healing drink” for a reason, the reason being that it truly is a healing drink. U.S. is the largest cognac importer and African Americans enjoy a larger market share for cognac here in America. Approximately 60%-80% of cognac drinkers in US are African Americans. One of the ways it helped to reach and maximize this segment was due to the mentioning of cognac in famous rapper Busta Rhyme’s song “Pass The Courvoisier.” It was a great marketing approach and it has certainly proved to be beneficial.

Most cognac brands that are advertised show that cognac is for the rich and affluent people in society. Although it is considered a drink for the rich, it is also a drink for the healthy and for people who are less prone to buy a bottle of drink that may cost thousands of dollars. When rappers started singing about cognac and helped spread the word, the drink got popular among African Americans. Not only among the rich but among people that would like to drink a fine drink for a great price. There began a way for cognac to be seen as an affordable drink in someways.

Cognac still needs to be marketed to the middle class people and above all cognac needs to be marketed to the health conscious people. Isn’t this one of the reason why wines have seen such a huge increase in sales? We believe so. There are hundreds of benefits of cognac and it seems like cognac brands have yet to tap into that and use it as a marketing tool. If we could use another word to define cognac other than the finest drink we would have to say health. Yes, cognac and health go hand in hand.

May be cognac brands should focus more on benefits of cognac as a drink that is healthy rather than focusing mostly on price and the looks of it. The prices of some of the expensive cognac is justifiable given the fact that they have been aged for 30 plus years. But these drink that cost well over $2,000 dollars aren’t expensive simply because of the design of the bottle, they are expensive because they have huge health benefits which at times it seems like the brands forget to utilize as a way to market cognac. However, it needs to be noted that each and every cognac regardless of their price has high health benefits and we think it’s about time brands start making consumers aware of that.

We are doing our part to let others know that cognac is a healthy drink. A drink that can cure many diseases. Whether you’ve been a cognac drinker for years or have recently started enjoying it, help us spread the benefits of cognac and how it can help one stay healthy.

Don’t forget to check out our cognac store where you can search cognac by age or brand.
