We have sorted all the colors and started our mosaic for Earth Day. The goal of the project is to become more aware of an item that is not recycled. Not only did the students become much more aware of how quickly they accumulate, but so did parents and community members. Not only do we have a great supply of colorful art materials, we helped bring awareness to our community. Thank you for supporting our students. We have completed the collecting of caps and are now assembling the art piece. Click HERE to see our work in progress! The study included only unified school districts, which enroll more than 70 percent of California‘s public school students. After defining high performance and identifying 30 California unified districts that met the high-performing criteria, the selected six include: Carmel, Coast, Glendale, Redondo Beach, San Marcos, and Temecula Valley Unified. In each of these six districts, interviews were conducted with a leader from the district office and three principals from a randomly selected elementary school, middle grades school, and high school to inquire as to the strategies perceived as most contributing to their success. Thank you to all the great volunteers who gave up their time to make this year’s Book Fair a success. And while we had a core group of parents who organized, set-up and worked the fair, the real success was in the number of parents who came to work a shift—the most volunteers to ever work the Fair!
Thank you to Jennifer Ehlers and Amby Ronemus for coordinating the Book Fair and to Jenn Perryman and Debbie Markham for their creativity and time in hosting the spectacular Book Fair Scavenger Hunt!
Thanks to Book Fair workers Jenn Ehlers  (who worked everyday)  Brooke Drew, DeDe Basile, Bridgette Smith, Lisa Johnson, Wylda Marthaler, Susan and Marshall Hollingsead, Leslie Roper, Leslie Willhite, Desiree Stephens, Glenda Dalby, Amanda Goldstein,  Hilary Walters, Heather Markham, Audrey Negley, Sienna  Piaz, Debby Boutros,  Cori Zinn,  Lynn Azevedo, Wendy Tiedeman, Jill Anderson. Robin Kraft, Cristine Steeb, and Todd Steeb.  Thanks also to our “Dad” team of Andy Zinn, Gary Stephenson, and Thad Markham who delivered big on doughnut day and our resident baker Cori Zinn for her fabulous cupcakes. Not only did parents support the Fair by purchasing books and sending their children with their pockets filled to shop, they donated books to fill our Wish List!
The community and local businesses also supported the fair. I would like to thank Winsor Construction and the American Legion Auxiliary for their generous donations, Linn’s Restaurant for coffee, Sweet Offerings for their beautiful basket for our raffle and the Village Bean.
Students contributed by helping to work the Book Fair during breaks and the lunch hour.  They also got involved by helping to “shop” for the library.  Once the Fair is closed we are able to purchase books for our library shelves with the proceeds. Students have been encouraged to come in and help me choose the books they would most like to see on our shelves.
