Good App for Brainstorming

Searching Apps is not easy. There are just too many but sometimes you stumble upon the one that you just have to try. IBrainstorm is one.

Said and done. After downloading, it was easy to get started with creating new windows, draw arrows and other shapes.

To delete took a while to master but once you realized that you would press the eraser it was ok.

In addition, we got other opportunities by shaking the iPad!

Overall a very well made app. that you can benefit from both private and in business. Unfortunately, it’s only for Apple. I’ll see if I can find something similar for Android.

Do your own Gantt Chart

From Wikipedia you can read:A Gantt chart is a type of bar chart, developed by Henry Gantt, that illustrates a project schedule. Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a project. Terminal elements and summary elements comprise the work breakdown structure of the project. Some Gantt charts also show the dependency (i.e., precedence network) relationships between activities. Gantt charts can be used to show current schedule status using percent-complete shadings and a vertical "TODAY" line as shown here.

Are you supposed to draw Gantt charts daily, it maybe worth investing in a pre-purchased package otherwise there are possibilities to create your own Gantt charts.
Free Preceden is one variant I have previously written about. Then you get a nice online schedule, or Timeline as they call it, in colour.

Another option, which is currently free, is the variant from Timios. A truly advanced Gantt chart in which also show the dependency. You download their Gantt designs and can therefore work off-line.

Spread sheet programs are otherwise fine to do Gantt charts in. Templates are available such as Gantt Chart Template for Exel from vertex42. Another is done by Raphael Sedin,who created an excellent template for Gantt in Exel. You can find it here.

Of course you could create your own templates. For Open Office Calc, there is a good description together with a template here that also include project management which is available for download. For Exel, I have previously given an example but you can also read more about it at Microsoft.

Art in Mallorca

Autumn on Majorca is lovely. I know because after a week I was very brown, very lazy, but also a bit cultural.

There are some nice museums in Palma, which are excellent places to visit. A rich man named Juan March lets us for free visit and look at his collections in his Museum of Art. There we find local stars, but also works by Dali, Miro and Picasso. But I Ifell for: Four seasons by Eusebio Sempere .

Another museum is Miro Museum. It is incredibly nice situatedjust outside the center. Take bus 46 if you want to avoid climbing the hill. Many Miro Paintings of course, but also sculptures.

Modern Art Museum is also worth a visit. The former Journal publisher Pedro Serra has in a fantastic way built the museum in the old city walls. There were also well-known artists, but I fell for this work by Gynt Förg:

SWOP as an analysing method

Working in the cloud

If you work in different locations or have more than one computer plus a laptop, which you want to use in different places, it is a bit inconvenient to have files on a disk. Sure there are USB that you can use, but you are not always certain which files you should download.

The alternative is to upload the files in the cloud, ie a server that is accessible from any computer. I have tested different ones and thought Zoho was the best one for me. Mainly I use Zoho docs where I save the current document. Additionally, Zoho has a complete office suite with writing, presentation software and a database.

Although Zoho is complete there are other options, like Google Docs and My Projects. They all have a free version.

Would you like to go even further, there is icloud where you create a virtual machine in cyberspace.

On the project side, there are many options if you’re willing to pay a penny.

You must be able to say NO to succeed!

No is an important word. It is very important to be able to say no to become successfull. That is what David Maister writes in his book.

I agree. In all activities, including private, it is important to stay focused. Having a strategy and stick to it. Then you have to say NO when it falls outside the policy and strategy. Otherwise you’re not effective. Sure it’s hard to say no to old customers, but I think they appreciate the sincerity in saying that there are others who do this much better.

It’s something to think about. David Maister reading a chapter from his book. Well worth listening to.

Cash Flow Calculator

Keeping an eye on liquidity is important, not least for small businesses. It is relatively easily done with exel. But it is also useful to simulate different outcomes and see how things turn out liquidity. A simulation program you build easily in exel but there are also ready calculators.

Here is an example of Bplans.com. Click the launch button and you get a simulation directly in a graph.

Gör det eneklt – även i ditt företagande

Simplicity kallar Yoshiko en serie bilder som jag hittade på flicr. Jag tror mycket på att man ska göra det så enkelt som möjligt i allt man gör. Enkelhet gör också att man bättre förstår vad som händer och därmed kan man lättare anpassa sig efter situationen.

Detta gäller också företagande. För alla företag är en långsiktig lönsamhet grunden för framgång. Frangångsfaktorer är att det finns en bra bild av hur man når kunden, att produkten/tjänsten fyller ett behov och att det finns pengar i kassan att betala räkningar med.

Det senare kan ibland komma i efterhand, vilket är förödande. Nyetablerade brukar säga att det kommer att ordna sig bara om ….

Det minsta man kan göra är att göre en likviditetsbudget och sedan jämföra utfallen mot budgeten. Gör det enkelt, börja med 6 månader. Använd exel eller motsvarande och gör 14 kolumner. I kolumn 1 skriver ni in- och utbetalningar. Kolumn 2 och 3 används till månad 1, 2 utfall och 3 budget. Kolumn 3 och 4 används för månad 2 osv. Kolumn 14 räknar ut differensen mellan utfall och budget.

- Hur vill du att framtiden skall se ut?

- Vad har fungerat bra?

Frågorna bryggar över dåtid och framtid och utgör stommen i lösningsorienterad coaching (solution focus). Coachingen betonar vikten av att sluta göra sådant som inte fungerar och istället bygga vidare på sådant som fungerar
