Ahh!! We all know this scenario. When you need it the most, something fails. Maybe he hates you, maybe he is playing a prank on you. So? What is the solution? Breaking the keyboard? Well, no!

The solution is simple! You pop your Live CD into your CD drive. What is a Live CD? It's a whole operating system that can run from your CD, without installation!

With the Live CD you can boot your PC no matter what.

When everything loads, you will have access to some tools to recover your lost data, internet browsers, image manipulating software and so on. Like I said before, an entire operating system on a CD!

If you want to know more of the benefits of a Live CD, I recommend you read this free e-book called 50 Cool Uses For Live CDs.

Why not check some great themes for Ubuntu here?

original article at www.clububuntu.com

Where to download older Ubuntu releases

Because I've received this question many times in the past, I decided to post here a link to the place from where you can download older releases of the Ubuntu operating system
It's 10/10/10. Of course we are not dead, daa!! Ok, let's get down to business. The most popular Linux distribution, Ubuntu, got today a new version so called Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. With a slightly polished look compared with the 10.04 version of Ubuntu, this one makes it the best alternative to Windows and <strike>Gates</strike> Mac.

You can download Ubuntu for free from here.
Enjoy!

Why not check some great themes for Ubuntu here?

original article at www.clububuntu.com

Our readers' desktop screenshots

The first screenshot comes from our reader Patrick Micka with the message:

Pretty minimalistic setup, that is, no compiz since ATI stopped supporting my graphics card and I'm not ready to shill out for a new one. Simple conky configuration displaying only basic system info as well as current Folding@Home progress so I don't feel bad about leaving my computer on all the time. I use xbindkeys to launch most common programs such as Google Chrome, Inkscape, and Rhythmbox. Elementary theme, Mono-light icons, and a design of mine as the background I like to call "McFly". -Patrick Micka

From Bobby Costigan:

Kenneth Lynch decided to send us 2 screenshots from his Kubuntu 10.4 installation:

From Dalai Ghost Line (link for wallpaper, link 1 link 2 for GTK Themes, link 1 link 2 for AWN dock icons):

From Paul Challoner we got one screenshot with the following message:

This uses the basic Ubuntu theme but with Meliea icons, add some Windows
7 London bridge wallpaper and some Mac-ish HandelGotD font for a nice
clean look.
New boot experience

New Indicators

New Themes

Ubuntu One File Syncing

and more...

Download: press here
or
As you might probably know already the guys over Mozilla Firefox recently released a new version of Firefox. In this short article I will tell you how to install this version of Firefox in a quick and easy way everyone can understand.

First of all, you will need to install UbuntuZilla, this little application will let you upgrade all your Mozilla products to their latest version. To install UbuntuZilla go here and download the .deb file. Once downloaded the file, double-click it and it will install using the graphical way with the use of GDebi Package Installer.

Once installed, go to Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal). Paste the following command:

ubuntuzilla.py
Follow the on-screen instructions (very easy).
You are now done!

Why not check some great themes for Ubuntu here?

original article at www.clububuntu.com

Give that Windows 7 look to Ubuntu

I'm very sure there are guys out there that use Ubuntu for it's great open-source applications but don't really like the look and feel of Ubuntu. If you are new to the Ubuntu community this can be very frustrating.

While browsing the internet I came across this Ubuntu Theme. If you install it correctly it will make your Ubuntu installation look very much like a Windows 7 distro. The installation steps are written over there.

Now you can have a nice looking piece of operating system and the advantages of using an open-source application.

Before anyone says that a linux user should never install a theme which looks like Windows/Mac I want to say that it's the user's choice what theme they like and feel more familiar with. Remember that you also installed Ubuntu and maybe wanted a more great looking interface.

Looking for something else? Try Mac4Lin, it will make your Ubuntu look like a mac in no time!

Why not check some great themes for Ubuntu here?

original article at www.clububuntu.com

Installing Google Chrome from .deb file with support for plugins, flash

Chromium was available to everyone and I already told you how to install it here. Google released a version of Google Chrome for Linux available here (for 32-bit version) and here (for 64-bit version). Once installed with GDebi Package Installer your Google Chrome installation will update itself when updates will be available to download.

The new version of Google Chrome comes with plugins support so you can install "addons" just like in FireFox. Of course, maybe the best plugin out there is Flash support which is a must-install in those days full of Flash.

Here I will post how to install Flash support to your Google Chrome installation:

Enabling Flash plugin for Google Chrome is similar to Chromium, create a directory named "plugins" (without the quotes) in /opt/google/chrome/ and then create a symbolic link to your flash player .so library into your /opt/google/chrome/plugins (simply copy & paste the following commands into a terminal):

mkdir /opt/google/chrome/plugins/
cd /opt/google/chrome/plugins/
ln -s /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so

Then start Google Chrome like this:

/opt/google/chrome/google-chrome --enable-plugins %U

You can add a shortcut to your Gnome panel by going to Applications > Internet, right click Google Chrome and select "Add to panel", then right click the panel icon, click "Properties" and then in the "Command" field, paste the above command.

Source: webupd8.blogspot.com

Why not check some great themes for Ubuntu here?

<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;
