the non-beating silicon heart of a computer. Normally, you can't see this stuff, it's so fragile pretty much anything metallic hitting it will crush pieces.

found on a microprocessor die. normally this would be hidden. It's very fragile. As you can see in the lower right, any metallic instrument (or anything sufficiently hard) can dig a hole into it. In this case it wouldn't cause damage, but I doubt you'd see this sort of damage on production gear. The flag is made on two different sub-layers of silicon, and the "Made in USA" is on the top layer. We have 3 layer processor art.

Dutch Windmill shot from near the sea. A lone family makes their way across the beach. The city creeps in on the left, complementing the loneliness of the beach on a week day, a tiny reminder of the work that ever must be done.

a defunct windmill near Ocean Beach, SF. I have learned that this is the Dutch Windmill, thanks to this flickrer. There is quite an interesting story behind it, this windmill was actually responsible for the creation of Golden Gate Park as we know it today, though it was highly controversial in its day, with detractors saying it wouldn't pump water, couldn't possibly be enough water, etc. etc. Without its contribution of pumping water up, the park would be much smaller. Today the park is one of the largest botanical reserves in the world.

Is that film grain? Was it born with it? Maybe it's Maybelline.

dear science these little buggers are hard to photograph. especially a triple-exposure. handheld. in the wind. They bounce up and down with the wind, pretending to be leaves, I guess. Also, this was captured with 10x macro glass on a 17-35mm wide-angle sigma lens with 77mm filter size, so you can understand why the bokeh is so damned freaky lookin

I heard a strange buzzing noise above head height, looked around for a bit, and found this guy, eating his wasp-lunch. Ran in to get the camera, battled the breeze and lack of tripod for your viewing pleasure.

handheld, while the tree was blowing in the slight breeze. HDR, of course. It's got a nice grain to it, and it's almost full-resolution. I think I need a medium-range telephoto lens to rock pictures like this better. It was higher up than I was.

Shot handheld, HDR from two exposures, accidentally in jpeg mode - at least got 16 bits out of it.

And hey, getting two out of three bracketed shots of a still cat is freaking amazing.
