Safaris have always sounded like quite a hardcore holiday to me. But thankfully, I have been proven wrong. Friends of mine have just got back from South Africa and told me what a fantastic time they have had and it wasn’t at all what I expected. They visited the Kruger National Park for 10 days on safari.

You have to expect to sleep in a tent, but my friend said it was complete with a toilet and a proper bed, which is just what you need after a day of riding in the back of a jeep. All of your meals are usually cooked for you so you don’t have to worry about going hungry. If sleeping in a tent isn’t you idea of fun, why not opt for one of the luxury lodges that are dotted around the park.

We mustn’t forget the amazing animals you will get to see whilst on safari, including lions, elephants and zebras to name but a few. A safari is a great way to really get close to these animals in the wild and experience what life is really like for them.

I am currently contemplating a trip to New York in November. British Airways have got some good deals on at the moment for flights with a return costing as little as £349.

Five days in the big apple is plenty of time to get my Christmas shopping done in all of the big department stores like Macys and Bloomingdales. I might even pop into Tiffany and Co on Fifth Avenue and see what delights they have in this season. Afterall, New York is all about shopping!

The US dollar currently has a really good exchange rate with the pound so you’ll have plenty to spend whilst you are there. If shopping isn’t your thing, why not go all ‘An Affair To Remember’ on us and take a trip up the Empire State Building. There are plenty of shows on Broadway during the run up to Christmas to keep you entertained well into the evening. Not to mention, Central Park, Times Square and the world famous Rockefeller Center.

Why not make the most and travel abroad to do your Christmas shopping, head over to Germany and experience some of their amazing Christmas markets or Dublin to see the lights being switched on.

But remember to only take hand luggage to make the most of not having to check in your luggage and possible be charged for. Opt for checking in online and remember to print off your ticket, otherwise you’ll have to pay £40 when you get to the check in desk.

The nights are drawing in and the chill is almost upon us and unfortunately people are already talking about the countdown to Christmas (FYI just over 10 weeks away).

Some of the best destinations to head to if you are looking for some winter sun are the Maldives, Dubai, Egypt and The Caribbean.

Dubai and Egypt especially offer all year round sunshine with temperatures in the early 30s. The evenings are cooler but still warm so there is no need to take your cardigan. The Red Sea is perfect for an afternoon cool down and there is plenty to see and do in both locations.

The Maldives is probably a little out of most people’s price range, however, if you are planning a winter wedding this could be a perfect location for your honeymoon. Imagine long white sandy beaches with shallow, warm clear blue water with plenty of delicious food and drink to enjoy.

One place I would recommend in the Caribbean is Cuba or Barbados. Both offer a fantastic location to get some sun, sea and see some amazing landscapes, experience the history of both countries and also enjoy the amazing food they have on offer.

I think I’ll be popping down to the travel agents at lunch time, now where is my credit card…

I have been considering a holiday to Indonesia recently and I have been browsing the internet trying to find myself a reasonably priced flight. Fortunately, I have a friend to stay with in Jakarta.

One thing I am most concerned about is when is it going to be rainy season? Indonesia experiences only two seasons, dry and wet. Between October and February, is rainy season and March to September is dry season. During the wet season, you can have up to 15 days of rain which is definitely not what you want whilst you are on holiday.

Avoiding areas like the Caribbean during the hurricane season is also advisable, especially after seeing the after effects of Hurricane Katrina and other such atrocities.

If you are suffering because of the credit crunch you have probably holidayed in the UK this year. With places such as the Lake District, the Peak District and the Snowdonia National Park being so easily accessible for people of the North West it is no wonder that they have experienced an increase in visitors to these areas.

Popular Welsh resorts such as Abersoch were heaving this summer because it is so much cheaper to go camping than take a holiday to the Costa Del Sol or to the South of France.

The credit crunch hasn’t yet abided and no doubt next year, the resorts in England and Wales will benefit greatly as a result.

There are numerous places throughout the world where you can go to watch some stunning wildlife. The majority of which is right on our doorstep. Europe boasts some of the most spectacular wildlife which you can experience firsthand.

Andalucia in Spain every summer has killer whales visiting their shores. You can take a boat trip to follow these beautiful creatures as they feed on the bluefin tuna in the Strait of Gibraltar. The sight is truly amazing. In addition, Spain has a variety of reptiles that can be spotted whilst enjoying some much needed sunshine.

If you fancy a trip up north, head to Iceland and take a peep at the Puffins at Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has huge colonies of a favourite of different birds including geese and ducks and you might even spot the odd whale out at sea.

Cuba is one of the Caribbean least discovered islands, with very few tourists visiting there until a few years ago. Thankfully there are no annoying Americans cluttering up the unspoilt white sandy beaches and there are cocktails galore for you to sample.

Over the last ten years, the Cuban government have realised the potential of tourism for Cuba and the country has become popular with a select number of British tourists. Tourism brings in the most revenue to a country which is still under communist rule.

Havana boosts the traditional Cuban feel, with 1950s cars, Mojitos to blow your mind and music to shake your hips to. Towns outside of Havana such as Cienfuegos and Trinidad city are typically colonial towns, whilst the beach resort of Varadero offers long white sandy beaches with crystal clear waters for you to relax in. Visit the city of Santa Clara and see where Che Guevara is buried with his fellow comrades.

If you are a fan of rolling hills, going walking, a bit of history and a good pub, why not try a weekend break to North Wales.

Snowdonia is one the biggest national parks in Britain and boosts some of the most spectacular walks and scenery. Mount Snowdonia itself has a number of different walks to cater to all types of ability. However, if you want to reach the top, you can get up there in three way. Firstly you can get the tram from Llanberis which talks approximately half an hour. You can walk either the Miners Trail or the Pyg Track. The Miners trail is slightly harder is better for more advanced walkers whereas the Pyg Track is more suited to seasoned walkers.

Once at the top, the view is mind blowing. Have a cup of coffee at the top and admire the scenery before deciding which route to take back down.

Canada has a great selection of ski and winter breaks on offer. In particular, the ski resorts of Lake Louise and Banff have much to offer if you are looking to get away during the festive period.

Lake Louise offers the most stunning scenery as well as some fantastic ski runs, including a glacier. If skiing isn’t you thinking, why not snow shoe around the lake or go for a ride on the Husky Dog sleigh which depart daily. The Chateau on Lake Louise offers spectacular views over the Lake at night time with the backdrop of the fir trees covered in snow make it look truly magical.
