Remote Control fun with the Sphero

I'm sure you've started to see this glowing ball around on the web or popping up in your local area…. Sphero! What is Sphero? Sphero is a robotic ball gaming system that you control via your smartphone or tablet. This is kind of similar to RC cars that we grew up playing with but even better. The Sphero enables you tilt, touch and swing your smartphone for play. This robotic ball will amaze your friends and family. I had the perfect opportunity this long weekend to show my family the Sphero and they were all amazed and confused in a good way. Why? To be able to control a glowing ball from your smartphone is cool and that's just remarkable advancement in technology.

To begin using the Sphero all you have to do is charge the robotic ball and download the Sphero App which is FREE, into your smartphone. It works with iphone, ipad and Android. Currently you can download several FREE Apps in conjunction with the Sphero. Using the additional apps makes using the Sphero even more fun and enhances the social aspect of the Sphero. I've only had the opportunity to use the single unit and experiencing it firsthand has brought back those fond memories where a kid can be a kid again but as an adult. You can do tricks, record and even take photos while playing with the Sphero.

In this video, I had my nephew test it out. We had the neigbourhood kids watching him play with this glowing ball.

The Sphero can also become a joystick which enables you to experience something very different. Here is another example of Sphero game flexibility using a game called Exile.

The Sphero has a whole Gaming Network "SpheroVerse" so you can track your achievements with your Sphero. It will track distance travelled, tricks you've completed etc.

This is one of the interfaces on the iphone for the Sphero.

I can't wait to give this a try! Augmented Reality with Sphero.

Overall, my favourite part about the Sphero is that it was really exciting to see my nephews and nieces' faces filled with enthusiasm and awe. They were so intrigued that they couldn't wait their turns to take over the ball and controls of the Sphero. Another cool thing about the Sphero is the flexibility that everyone can enjoy their own entertainment and of others. I recently returned from a vacation in Malibu California and faced the unsure reality of my safety during my trip. On my vacation I had experienced an earthquake and one of the largest emergency evacuations with bush fires in California that were only metres from my location. At the time, i relied on Social Media and tv for updates but what happens if i did not have power or access to these resources? What would I do? This demonstrates that emergencies can happen unexpectedely at anytime. According to Red Cross Canada, an emergency has occurred in each province with over 2,300 disasters in the last year. So have you done anything to be prepared for an Emergency? Do you even know what to expect or do in the event of an Emergency? According to Red Cross Canada it can take up to 72 hours before emergency responders attend to you. So are you prepared?

Hello from San Francisco

Hello from the West Coast! If you follow me on Twitter at @clickflickca you would be aware that I'm in San Francisco for vacation. I've been here for a couple days already and it has been an absolute blast. I had the opportunity to visit the Twitter Headquarters which in itself is already the highlight of my trip. The folks at Twitter are extremely accommodating and a blog post on my recent visit will be scheduled in future.

This is my second time visiting San Francisco. My first visit back in 2010 was courtesy of the folks at Klout. That trip was one of the best things that happen to me because it gave me the opportunity to meet my cousin that I never met before. It also triggered my foray into social media and all things social meeting people in this space and getting to meet folks from Google, Klout and Twitter.

The opportunity to visit San Francisco and to enjoy all it's pleasures has been simply amazing. I had the opportunity to explore the culture and food. I recently visited the Golden State Bridge, JapanTown and now currently enroute to Napa Valley to enjoy lots of wine.

At Napa Valley i'll be enjoying a visit to Benzinger Vineyard, Sterling Vineyard and a visit to Yountville. A visit will also be made to Auberge du Soleil. New Pizzaburger from Boston Pizza

I recently had the opportunity to try the NEW Pizzaburger from Boston Pizza that just released this week into their menu (Pizzaburger Launch). The Pizzaburger is a half pound of prime rib burger wrapped in pizza dough and comes in 2 varieties. I was able to try the Pepperoni and Bacon Pizzaburger. It definitely is a complete meal option and hits the spot. It was very juicy and quite filling. One Pizzaburger order can be shared among 2 people. If you've got a big appetite this is your dish.

Checking out the Boston Pizza menu, I was able to try other menu items as well that were just as tasty. I was able to try the Chicken wing nachos and steak bacon wrapped skewers. I enjoyed the latter of the two dishes. Overall I was impressed and surprised of the selections on the Boston Pizza menu. So would I order a Pizzaburger again? The answer would be yes.

I enjoyed the food at the John st/Front st location. I recommend you visit this location. It look deceivingly small from the front of the bar/restaurant but it's quite spacious with lots of big screen tvs and quite modern looking. You'll have a greater chance to visit Boston Pizza if you join my ongoing contest below in this post. Good Luck!

March Madness with the Chevrolet Equinox 2013

I recently went on a mini road trip to Detroit to watch NCAA March Madness basketball with 2 friends and a relative. I had the opportunity to use a Chevy 2013 Equinox LT. I want to "Thank" the folks at GM Canada for making this vehicle available to me. It was a pleasure to drive on our 5 hour trip from Toronto to Detroit. It was the perfect sized vehicle for 4 guys and our carry ons, but more on that later since we decided to do some shopping!

My first impression of the interior was of surprise. The leather interior with the red stitching was impressive to say the least. The type of stitching you see in higher end models of car.

For most of the trip I was a back seat passenger. I felt very comfortable with enough leg room in the back. The following two photos show the leg room I had compared to when I was in the The Palace of Auburn Hills to watch the game. I felt more comfortable in an Equinox than my own arena seats at the game.

Heading to The Palace to enjoy the basketball game, we coincidentally spotted the Buick Encore on display. This is another vehicle that looks beautiful and you might want to check out.

After the game, we had a whole day to explore Detroit to eat and shop with the Equinox. We're able to store a lot of bags and shopping bags in the back quite efficiently with no problems.

Overall this Crossover vehicle filled our needs with no complaints. Being guys we might like a little more power on acceleration but it was sufficient for our needs. Very fuel efficient since we only had to fill tank twice on trip. Some of the features I like of the Equinox:

OnStar: Press a button and get a live voice for directional help.

Lane Departure Warning: A button that activates a beep warning if you're close to crossing lanes. Very nice safety feature.

Backside Camera: A camera that allows you to view behind the car on the dash. Great for parking.

Battery Connection behind front console: Allows me to charge my smartphone or device from back seat.

Nike+ SportWatch GPS review

The weather is getting warmer and spring is just around the corner. It's a perfect time to get the physical activity going since I've been hibernating this winter and have been unactive.
I've was very active prior to "Social Media" so reviewing this Nike+ SportWatch GPS is like a blessing in disguise. This review took me forever to start because I was waited for nice weather to run. Yes I made excuses and apologized to Nike. I really need to take their motto and "Just Do It." Well, I finally did run and it felt so good.

Straight from the box the Nike+ SportWatch comes in a very "Applesque" packaging. To use this watch you need to create a NikePlus account and download free software. It took time for me to get use to the site and trying to figure out all the "calories" and "lap intervals" information but I got a hang of it eventually. It also comes with a little sensor chip that you can use for GPS that works with Nike+ ready shoes.

The Nike+ SportWatch is powered by TOMTOM GPS. It's a very nice stylish watch. It has a touchscreen surface and easy to navigate using the 3 side buttons. The watchband has a USB insert so you can just plug into computer to update your running statistics. The best part about the watch is that it's pretty simple to navigate. You can view your run history, records and stopwatch. This info including your GPS route can easily be transferred to your NikePlus account online via USB.

Another great feature is using this watch with the Nike Plus website. It even allows you to see where you pick up speed or slow down in a particular route. There is a sense of gamification when you begin to compare your stats with others around you. If you have friends using the NikePlus it can be fun or even competitive. It gives extra incentive for you to get active this spring/summer. Any hoot, it's a cool watch and has good integration with the NikePlus website. If you plan to start running soon this would be a great addition.

Jim Beam Bourbon Boot Camp

Recently I was invited with a select group to the SpiritHouse in Toronto to join an evening of bourbon mixology and food that is paired or infused with Jim Beam bourbon. The evening had 2 special guest that included Frederick Booker Noe III (@FredBNoe) the grandson of Jim Beam and Matt Jones (@Whisky_Chef) a Beam Global Ambassador.

I had the opportunity to try various bourbon mix drinks that evening. One of my favourites was the cocktail with triple sec and lime. It had a citrus flavouring which was different for me when tasting bourbons and whisky. I also got to try a bourbon flavoured brisket slider.

The evening included a Jim Beam Bourbon tasting. We got to try 3 different Bourbons. 1- Jim Beam White 2- Jim Beam Devil's Cut 3- Knob Creek Bourbon. My favourite of the 3 bourbons was the 9 year old Knob Creek Bourbon.

Overall it was a fun evening of food and bourbon. I had the opportunity to enjoy the evening with quite a few friends from Twitter so it was good times all around. Thanks to Jim Beam and SpiritHouse for being great host.

Medieval Times Giveaway

I recently had the opportunity to attend Medieval Times in Toronto for the first time ever. Medieval Times is a dinner and show set with knights in armour, horses and pageantry and so much more. This reminded me of history class or a video game i played when I was a little kid. As soon as you arrive you are assigned a paper crown to wear with a colour which represented your team. In the arena all seats are sectioned by colour. We happen to be yellow and red for the night so we would be cheering for the knight in yellow and red.

The entertainment continues with various stunts and presentations by the Knights in a theatrical arena set with pageantry and royalty. While the knights entertain we eat with our bare hands. There are no utensils to use to replicate and give it that feel of ancient times.

The food comprises of soup, half a chicken, ribs and potatoe and a pastry dessert. I will admit that the chicken was very good and juicy. It's a complete meal paired with some drinks and your good to go. Now I went to the show with 3 guys and we all had a good time. I think this type of event is great for anyone but I think the family or kids would most enjoy this event more. I was telling my guests that I would love to take my nephews to this because they love video games and this represents somewhat a "real life video game" with knights and swords.

This month they have a special leading up to March in which kids can eat for $9.99 with an Adult ticket purchase so this is a great time to take advantage of this special. They also have a Valentine's promotion called the 'Couple Package'. This consist of a photo,entry, champagne, rose and admission into the dungeon. Details can be found here: Couple Package

There is also bar service in main arena and entry to Castle. Souvenir merchandise and actual swords can also be purchased. It's a very different and unique way to dine and experience theatre type entertainment. So come out and enjoy: Medieval Times

Thanks to Bud Light Platinum I had the opportunity to see Diplo perform his set in Toronto this past weekend. Diplo is a popular DJ who has collaborated with Kid Cudi, Snoop Dog, Bruno Mars and No Doubt. He travels around the world and performs as the hottest spots. This time in Toronto it was at Uniun NightClub. We had a special area at Uniun getting served great food and the NEW Bud Light Plantinum beer. The Bud Light Platinum is a triple-filtered beer at 6%. I tried it and let's just say I had a few to enjoy responsibly. I really like the aluminum bottle design by the way. Any hoot back to the Diplo set. This was one crazy night filled with music and fun. I was able to go back of the DJ booth thanks to @Stilez Below is some video coverage from him that night.

Uniun is the newest NightClub addition to Toronto with a spectacular lighting system that must be seen. It's a Charles Kabouth entity, King of Nightlife in Toronto.

Experiencing the Nintendo Wii U GamePad

I have nephews and nieces ( 5 in total ) but never know what to get them for the holidays. They're literally playing games all day and all night. Since I'm not a video game player and most parents don't know much about video games the WiiU Gamepad can be a gift idea for you this holiday season.

I recently had the opportunity to play and review games from Ubisoft and try out the NEW Nintendo WiiU GamePad.

SD card and 2 USB slots in front.

I have never seen a gamepad with a screen before so this is different for me. It enables you to interact with the game and tv in a new way. It has a touchscreen functionality and comes with a stylus as an optional use. The best feature I think most parents would appreciate is that you can use WiiU Gamepad to play on your tv but if you want to watch a movie on the tv, your child can just directly play from the WiiU Gamepad unit while you watch the movie. The WiiU Gamepad control acts like a universal remote as well. Another feature that is interesting is the NFC capabilities for future use.

If you ask me for my recommendations for a game that the family can enjoy, it would be the ESPN Sports Connection game. Why? It's interactive and has all the different sports you can play. Enough of the guns and shooting games, right? On a side note when I tested this game I played against a 7 year old girl and she struck me out in baseball. So everything is fair game. :-)
