Nice writing and an engaging piece. It's not easy being a visionary. Carrying the torch of innovation will always be an uphill run. It's an interesting path we are on, isn't it? On one hand, there's an excitement in grasping the "big picture" and the camaraderie in working together for a greater good. From another angle, there is no shortage of obstacles, diversions, dead ends and outright dishonest traps to tax ones endurance... enough to create a seemingly endless army of cynics. Thanks for your efforts and enthusiasm.

This idea sounds great, I hope the development can advance to the point where it can soon be implemented into a commercial product. Thanks for sharing.

Number three on their list is LAUGHABLE ! It reads in part, "Reduce car emissions: You may already have a new hybrid gas-electric car, but others in your community may need some prodding to upgrade their autos."
That is FINE, if, by "Your Community", the writer means Gated Communities where everyone has a SIX FIGURE salary, and 800 PLUS Credit Score. I have a NEWS FLASH for you, THAT Demographic is NOT the majority in this Country, Joe and Jane Minimum Wage are, and until the price of Hybrids, and pure electrics drops to HALF what it is NOW, they CAN'T afford them.
ALL of this is NOTHING MORE than an attempt by the FILTHY COAL INDUSTRY to divert attention from the biggest broad spectrum POLLUTER in the Country, COAL FIRED POWER PLANTS. SHUT DOWN the burning of Coal and the quality of the air, as well as the acidity of our rain will improve MARKEDLY.

I would certainly like to see fewer Hummers on the roads, but making them unlawful doesn't seem the right way to do it. Plus think of the time and money wasted on lobbying for and against such a law.

No, if consumers are given the choice of better alternatives then the Hummer's makers will be forced to stop selling them through lack of demand.

One, I'm now a Republican, at least for today, so I can vote in the Republican primary. Of all the possible global disruptions, the two most likely are global warming and a super pandemic. Vegetables I sometimes grow in the Fall include beets, carrots, cabbage, brussel sprouts, lettuce, and broccoli.

It's misleading to suggest that development of passenger rail in the PNW has been held up because of a focus on 'bullet trains'. The State of Washington has been working to incrementally implement a long range plan to have "higher speed" (110 mph max.) trains in the PNW Corridor since the late 1990s. Thirteen daily round trips are planned between Seattle and Portland.

The latest plans, which also summarize the history of planning in this corridor, can be found here:
http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Rail/Plans.htm

Also, Sound Transit 2 has very little to do with the development of intercity passenger rail in this corridor. Most of the money will be spent on expanding the light rail system in the Seattle area.

And so just WHEN will this system be available for retail purchase ON THE STREET AT THE PRICE PER METER2 quoted?? If the "AVERAGE JOE could go and pick up a couple of square meters of this at a time. If it remains the "Pet" of Resorts, and the Military, than not much will change.
